This review is about Better Living Assistance Services, more specifically my experience with how this business is run and if their main mission is to better assist seniors. I have a 93 year mom who lives with me. She has dementia and can be very difficult at times. I have used a couple agencies in Tampa that provides in home care attendants, Utopia and Senior Care Services (which has gone out of business). Utopia is a agency I will never use again. They will send you people who have criminal records, thieves, liars, and worst of all people who will take advantage of your elderly loved ones. I was fed up. The fourth attendant from Utopia was taking advantage of my mother and when I found out I let her go. I called Better Living Senior Assistance Services because I needed care for my mom but because of my terrible experience thus far with in home care agencies I didn't expect this agency would be any different. BOY WAS I WRONG. I was amazed that my call was answered by the owner, Selwyn St. Louis, and he set up an immediate appointment to come to my house to meet my mom and me. I discovered that Mr. St. Louis provides a type of care not found in any other agency. His philosophy is to care for the family unit and not just the senior. By family unit I mean those who are living with the senior and providing care. I was immediately impressed. Shortly after the meeting he called and said one of his in home care employees would be starting the next morning at 8:00 and he gave me her name and phone number. Her name was Esther and she showed up a little early and I went over a few details with her and left for work. Ester was a wonderful human being and went above and beyond what most in home care attendants would do. I finally felt secure when I went to work knowing Ester was there to take care of her. Ester was with us 9 months. But my mom's dementia caused Ester to realize that my mom needed more that what she could provide. I was heartbroken at the thought of losing Esther. I called Better Living Senior Assistance Services, again Selwyn answered. He cam to my house the next morning and talked with my mom while I observed. After talking to my mom we went out to the patio and he said he understood and explained dementia to me. He reassured me that he would be able to find the right attendant and would call me later. He called within an hour and told me that Aida would be coming tomorrow to start as my mom's new attendant. That morning the new attendant arrived early and introduced herself as Aida. I never thought that my mom would get a better attendant that Esther but again, BOY WAS I WRONG. Aida is still with us and her ability to navigate my mom's complex behavior is amazing. She understands how to care for my mom not using her brain but using her heart. For me, Aida is a dream come true. I consider her a member of our family because that is how she treats us. I provide this background information to let anyone know who reads this review that my review of Better Living Senior Assistance Services is based on over what I have experienced in over a year while using their services. At the heart of this company is Selwyn St James. He personally meets every potential client and the family to determine how his company can provide the best possible care for your elderly love one. Even when we needed another attendant Selwyn came to the house to re-evaluate the situation so he could better help my mom. What agency does that???? NONE! But Better Living Senior Assistance Services is run by Selwyn St. James. He is also the owner. He hires only the most qualified, honest, and most of all kind spirited employees to represent his company. I have never seen my mom in better spirits since I started using Better Living Senior Assistance Services. My mom isn't fussy about eating anymore, is willing to do small amounts of exercise, and has the attention she needs. I want to thank Mr. Selwyn St. Louis and his company Better Living Senior Assistance Services for taking such good care of my mom. Client Thomas Rogers
