Sunnyside Village is the place to go if you’re Looking for all the comforts of Home and a great team with your rehabilitation The rooms are large and very comfortable. The atmosphere is very friendly . Nursing care is around the clock and is spot on ! An on site nutritionist will make sure your meals are to your preference.. The physical therapy team is extremely competent. How can I judge? I was a patient there on three different occasions following surgery. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give Sunnyside Village a 5+.!‘

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to give a shout out to the entire team at Sunnyside Village Rehabilitation for the excellent care they provided to our grandma. Our Grandma is 97 and lived independently prior to admission. She ended up having some medical complications and ended up in hospital and soon after went to Sunnyside Village. She stayed there about 3-4 weeks for Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation. She was eating well again, socializing, doing her therapy daily, and making new friends. She had nothing but good things to say. The rooms and bathrooms are clean and big, the statf follow up when then need to ,and in our situation went above and beyond for not only our Grandma but our family situation too. Our entire family is in Ohio and we decided to move her up here with us after living in Florida for over 20 years. She still needs some help functionally and medically, so we decided on an Assisted Living Facility near us in Ohio. That all sounds great, but the reality is, getting a loved one across the country is difficult. I have been an occupational therapist for over 13 years, have worked in skilled nursing, home health, inpatient rehab, and now as a clinical liaison. So I know the healthcare world pretty well and I feel like I have a good understanding of the various levels of care. However, my family and I have not had to really deal with this type of situation before and I cant imagine the stress it would be on someone not in the healthcare field, because it was still a very challenging situation for me. Sunnyside has a great team. Especially Jodi, the director of social services and admissions. She had to deal with me emailing her daily, asking various questions, had to take our grandma to the DMV, had to set up transport, speak / coordinate with 2 different LTC/ ALF facilities, etc. Although she probably wanted to hurt me lol , she did it with grace and was very professional throughout. Same with the other staff involved (sorry I cant remember all the names). Regardless, Sunnyside's rehab program was solid and was able to get our grandma as close to baseline functionally as they could. My grandma looked forward to working with the rehab staff. Their rehab manager was actively involved as well, which I appreciate. The feedback I was provided helped us better determine her actual needs and now I feel more confident in our final decision. I actually used their documentation to help me better transfer her at the airport 🙂 So thank you! (ps - you would be proud, as she remembered to reach back for the chair each time when sitting) If looking for a facility for your loved one; I recommend you tour Sunnyside to see what they have to offer. I recommend you ask your case managers you are speaking with at the hospital to send them a referral to at least evaluate your loved one. Even if it may be a little extra drive for the family to get there in some cases , I think having quality care is more important than distance in most cases. Kind, helpful staff, various size rooms, plenty of activities - including an ice cream social every week day. Plus access to the lovely grounds and lake. Conveniently located close to Sarasota and I75. A Christian community but welcoming of all good people. Consistently voted Best of Sarasota.

After three weeks of acute rehab at SMH my mom had to be placed in a rehab center with skilled nursing care. Sunnyside Village was recommended to us by a physical therapist. I contacted Sunnyside for a last minute tour at the end of the day for a quick tour. The receptionist was skeptical if a last minute tour could happen at 4:45 pm but she asked and we were introduced to Judy the head RN at the facility who was very accommodating and helpful with a full tour of the facility. My first impressions were great, Sunnyside Rehab looked clean, well organized, every staff member we encountered from housekeeping, CNA's, Dietitian, everyone was friendly. The environment is quiet, open and with well lit TV sitting areas, jigsaw puzzle tables, it is a pleasant environment for family members to visit and spend time when your loved one is going through rehab or long term skilled nursing care. The care for my mom was outstanding. The CNA's were friendly, attentive and caring. The RN's were great at making sure medications were administered and any wound care taken care of promptly. The dietitian made sure meals had the nutrition needed to maintain my Mom's progress in rehab. "Family meals" could be purchased at very reasonable prices so you can eat with your family member. As a family we were inside Sunnyside every day for 5 weeks and at least 10 hours per day to help monitor our mom's progress. We were paying attention to what goes on inside Sunnyside and I can tell you I only saw loving care throughout. My mom is 88 years old and can be a bit spicy at times, she also had a lot going on medically that made her a challenging patient. The staff handled her gently and used multiple strategies to motivate mom to do what needed to be done for her care. With very few exceptions the staff was exceptional. I would like to specifically thank CNA's Jullianna and Sabrina, in housekeeping Princess, in Social Services Jodie and Ann, the dietitian manager Ann. There are many others I to thank including the Therapy staff, they are all wonderful. It was a difficult time for my 90 year old dad, my sister and I. Sunnyside made it easier for us and worked with us to achieve the best results possible for my mom's rehab care. Did everything go as planned, no. Did we have disappointments along the way, yes. But when looking at the whole experience, I couldn't imagine having mom anywhere else, I enjoyed going to Sunnyside to see mom largely because the environment was so welcoming and loving in the face of a extremely difficult challenge in getting mom back on her feet.

Amazing place! We cannot say enough good things about their skilled rehab. If it wasn't for this place our dear mom would not still be here. They got her back to eating and drinking regular food and drink from being told by the hospital she was going to need a peg tube. From dining, nursing, medical reception, transportation, rehab, facilities and social services, they are top notch! They truly care and strive to do their best and stand by their mission. My husband and I have lived in this Sunnyside community for five years! We love it here! It's a beautifully landscaped, well kept property with many trees and a lake. A great place to take walks with benches along the way to sit and enjoy a quiet spot. There are many and varied activities available including a pool, shuffleboard, workshop, gardening, arts and crafts, exercise classes and two exercise rooms with equipment ready for use at your preferred time. One can also find a table game of your choice to join throughout the day or evening. At least once a month there's an outing by bus (so great not having to drive and fight for a parking space!) to places of interest, perhaps a museum, a show, a special restaurant or other events of interest. The community center hosts a common area for visiting, a coffee spot, bank, and a well stocked library that includes among the mix large print books, latest releases, puzzles and games. The dining room is most inviting with linens on the tables, and the food is excellent! The staff campus wide is very caring and attentive with doors always open for help or to simply visit! They know us by name! Our world has expanded since moving to Sunnyside as we've met the most interesting people from all walks of life! We so enjoy hearing their life stories! Everyone is friendly and kind...we have the nicest neighbors! A word of encouragement...do not wait too long to make your move to this retirement community! We were young . We couldn't be happier with the choice we made! One more great advantage: with the 24/7 security of Sunnyside we can simply lock our door and leave for a trip!

The Sunnyside Rehabilitation clinic is "top notch". My experience has been more than I'd hoped for, because I had not had any significant help with my problem during the 4-5 years that I've lived with it. Physical Therapists, Howard then Ellie zeroed in on the source of my limitation & pain. After explaining my condition Ellie skillfully worked with me to increase range of motion and maximize lost muscle strength. Through Ellie's hands on skill, patience, exceptional understanding, instruction and kindness I have more pain-free use of my leg!! Thank you to the other therapists who filled in when necessary!

I have lived in Independent Living at Sunnyside Village for 2-1/2 years. I love it! I have zero complaints. I have never in my life experienced living with such caring and considerate people and staff. Our CEO is delightful. His door is always open, unless he is with someone in his office. Our food is fabulous! I love our lunches. We have many choices for lunch and dinner. Service for our meals is wonderful and very efficient. Our chef is awesome. Great choices for activities - wonderful concerts and terrific field trips, wood shop, games, heated pool, 2 gyms, movies, and the opportunity to have a garden. Drivers are willing to take you to appointments if needed. I have heard no complaints from those who have been living in Assisted Living or the Health Center. Therapy is excellent. We are waiting for our Memory Care unit to open - all are beautiful and clean.

Sunnyside put a twinkle back into the eyes of our Mom! Before Sunnyside, she was just surviving. It took a bit of time, but after consistent good nourishment, nursing care, creative social activities, meaningful pastoral care, appropriate therapy, and truly caring individuals showing kindness and love, she has blossomed back into life. The rooms are not only beautiful, but also kept meticulously clean, and laundry service is done to a very high standard. Every staff member has played a part in her ability to enjoy life once again. There is not a day that has gone by that we have not been thankful for Sunnyside!!!

Originally purchased an Independent Living apartment for our mother. She spent five nice years until a fall at which time we chose to enroll her in the rehab program at Sunnyside. From that point forward our experience along with the treatment of our mother left much to be desired. Communication regarding progress,treatment and future placement was terrible and many times misleading. We were told at an evaluation meeting that the prospect of returning to independent living was probable. This very quickly went from probable, to the need to go to Assisted Living , to we have a room, to we don't have a room, to we recommend that you look elsewhere because we don't feel that we can let her return to her Independant Living apartment. When we initially interviewed Sunnyside we felt that there would be a smooth transition from Independant Living to Assisted Living to Health Care, this proved not to be the case. There seemed to be a great deal of disconnect and lack of communication between these sectors, especially when the "Rehab" unit is utilized. This transition with a loved one is difficult and we felt that the assistance to the family and at times, the care of our mother, was not up to the expectations set forth by the Sunnyside group.

I had knee replacement surgery on 1/20/16, and went into Sunnyside rehab. I received excellent nursing care and physical theraphy while there. All of the PT were encouraging, supportive and did an outstanding job getting me going again. The nursing staff were kind, compassionate and all you would want them to be. The meals were excellent. The only drawback is lack of private rooms. For me, I didn't care because my goal was to have good care and good theraphy which I got, but for others this is important . It is worthy of 5 stars.
