February 2025
WARNING….DON’T PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE AT WICKSHIRE PORT ORANGE….YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WILL BE VIOLATED AND YOUR LOVED ONE WILL BE NEGLECTED! In February 2024 I placed my husband in Wickshire Port Orange Memory Care with the understanding that the Staff would assist him with toileting, face washing, teeth brushing and diaper changing and specifically that the Staff checked on Residents every 2 hours at night for diaper changes and to change them, if they did. Opon my morning arrival, I found all linens SOAKED in URINE in laundry basket and notified Wickshire Director that I believed he was NOT being changed at night….otherwise….WHY WERE ALL LINENS URINE SOAKED EVERY MORNING. Director assured me he was being changed and provided SPY CAMERA to put me at ease. After watching Spy Camera every night for a week….and nobody even came in his room….I notified Wickshire Director that he was NOT even looked in at….alone being changed during the night….and texted her the photos of hubby hanging/falling out of bed with no sheets/spread and trying to take off diaper himself. During the 1st week….I was notified that he had fallen on elbow in dining area with barely a scratch and they placed bandage. I had experienced the sticky, messy, dangerous floors in the dining area, as the chairs almost always were difficult to move… having never seen them be cleaned. I texted Director on several occasions, since Staff had not brought husband’s medications on time, concerning me that he even received his evening medications….since I had to remind them of meds during the day, while I was there. They were usually 1-2 hours late….and may have been skipped ….had I not reminded them. Since Hubby has Lewy Body Dementia/Parkinson’s Disease….it is imperative that Carbidopa/Levodopa be given at specific times a day @ 7am, 11am and 4pm or he will not be able to ambulate. I also notified Director that I could tell that toothbrush/toothpaste and Facewash tube had not been used, since it was not opened. I was told they would setup meeting with Staff & Me, which never happened. When I tried to call Hubby @ Night….Nobody EVER answered front desk phone….no matter what time I called. Four days after his fall…. I brought in ice packs to ice down Hubby’s Red, Warm Elbow and noticed his face was also flushed. I found out that the Staff does not track Bowel Movements, so they just give laxatives every 5 nights….in hopes that he goes…but no notification….what about bowel compaction…if never a BM? These problems were NOT being addressed by the Director so I asked her to text me her Boss’s contact information on 2 occasions…and the last time, she told me her Supervisor would be calling me (and never did). On Hubby’s final day at Wickshire... the Hospice Nurse & Memory Care Director were stating that Mike was in distress and the Elbow Infection had gotten worst. The hospice nurse told me that she could order antibiotics. Obviously the Staff had NOT attended to Hubby’s elbow and the Director suggested that he go to Emergency Room due to Severe Infection. After finding out that Michael's elbow was severely infected....I was upset and raised my voice at Director since this has gone untreated. All they did every day was to change the bandage….and….when I got there in the morning….the bandage had usually fallen off. Once back in the room awaiting Ambulance, the Director brought in a police officer to discuss removing me from the facility due to my aggressive behavior and stated that the Staff feels that I am a threat to the Staff as well as my husband and that since I am exhausted from watching the camera all week...that I cannot even take care of myself....let alone....take care of my husband properly. The police officer escorted me out of the facility (leaving my husband there)....against my wishes....but I went quietly, since I couldn’t attend to husband, if I was in jail. This police officer must be on the payroll….since he was quick to escort me out….once I scolded the Wickshire Director. I waited outside the facility until the ambulance arrived. The Hospital reported that Hubby had very serious injury of DVT Blood Clot (Brachial Vein Thrombosis) in Elbow which could break apart and transfer through his bloodstream to his brain or lungs which could cause his death. They were administering IV blood thinners due to severe Bacterial Infectiontry to prevent his demise. He told me that the other problem with a Dementia/Parkinson's patient taking blood thinners is that, since they are so prone to falls, another injury which included bleeding, he would be at risk for bleeding to death, due to taking blood thinners. That night @ 6:02pm, I texted Wickshire DIrector to ask her “What are my options for removal of husband from Wickshire Memory Care?” She responded “30 day notice”…(THIS WAS Directors LAST RESPONSE TO ME.) I texted her back giving her my 30 days Notice of Termination. I later found out, this was ignored, as Wickshire required a CERTIFIED LETTER of TERMINATION. Also, since the Director would not speak to me, the Hospital Case Worker suggested that I contact Police to allow me to enter Wickshire to get Hubby’s belongings (clothes, furniture, medications, food, drinks, diapers, toiletries, towels, linens, etc.) Hubby remained in Hospital for 5 Days and was required to take blood thinners thereafter. Also, Wickshire has Early Termination Clause ….and we were required to pay for entire month, when he was only there 14 days ….even though Wickshire was responsible for his hospitalization, since they did not properly treat his elbow wound. Also….Wickshire REQUIRES ACH Automatic Payment Withdrawl from your Bank Account monthly. Consequently…..they continued removing money from our bank account several months after his Early Discharge. I had to continually send Certified Letters to STOP them from fraudulently removing their monthly payments from our Bank Account. …and eventually rec’d refunds. PLEASE PROTECT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AND YOUR LOVED ONES….NEVER PLACE THEM AT WICKSHIRE PORT ORANGE. Blessings!

My mother has been a resident at Wickshire Memory Disorder unit for approximately 2 months time. Everyday I am truly impressed with her care. I live close by and visit her almost daily. She is always neatly groomed with clean clothes. She appears very content. I can truly say the team there takes much better care of my mom than I was able to accomplish on my own. For reference I am a retired Nurse Practitioner and I am fairly hyper vigilant in assessing her care but no worries because they always surpass my expectations. They engage the residents in so many varied activities daily and I think this increased socialization has benefitted my mom the most. A great team from the Director to the daily care staff!! Love my mom being there and very highly recommend it. My only regret is that we should have taken her there sooner.

Unfortunately I had to find a place for my mom who has altzheimers. I visited quite a few facilities until I found Wickshire! The cleaning staff is great…it's always clean and it always smells like food!! The staff are always pleasant and upbeat. My mom is kept busy almost all day……crafts, outings, tea parties, and even beach ball volleyball for exercise. I know they can't please everyone but they sure have my vote. She has fallen a few times which at 89 she will…but they are always on top of things and I'm notified right away. Thanks to everyone who has taken care of my mother. Siobhan McCorkle

It's been more than a year and a half. My phone rang and my life was changed faced with taking care of my loved one. My choice was Wickshire. They are great individuals who care about their residents. They go above and beyond to ensure my dad's safety. They have daily activities that they encourage all residents to engage in. The in house therapy department has helped my dad stay strong. I know this is his final home. They also allow hospice care at end of life and an amazing memory care center. Thank you to everyone taking care of him.

First Class from the beginning to the end. Staff is amazing. The way they love my Dad, and go out of their way for him is truly incredible. I think it is because this team at Wickshire doesn't just show up to do a job, but they are called to do this. I am most impressed with the depth of the relationships they form with the guests. Dad has been here about 18 months. I would highly recommend Wickshire for your family member.

Atria is a great place for your loved ones! My mom who is a very special person and loved by her family and friends. We only want the best for her. This is going to be a tough decision to make. We looked at many places and the staff at all the other places were very attentive and helpful. But, Shelia at Atria is the best! She is truly very caring, understanding and helpful. Shelia will go out of her way to make sure everything will be perfect for my mom. I cant say enough.. she does a great job. I also met Chad, Lori, Sheena, Melissa, Cindy, Connie and others, everyone was wonderful to deal with. The important thing is my mother is happy and safe. A tough decision was made easier with Atria. To all the staff at Atria..Thanks for taking care of my Mom!
