Our family can't say enough good things about HarborChase staff and residents. To say they went above and beyond is an understatement for our situation. My in-laws (father-in-law with physical limitations and mother-in-law with dementia) were scheduled to move into an Assisted Living apartment and the day before the move, my father-in-law had a major heart attack. The schedule to move in was very fluid based on the discharge date from the hospital for my father-in-law. With only hours notice on a Saturday, the appropriate staff were at the front door to receive us. To compound the situation, my mother-in-law was more suited for Memory Care than Assisted Living. Once again, staff made the necessary last minute arrangements for her to be received in Memory Care for night two. The next five weeks were spent with staff responding to my father-in-law's adjustment which at times was very challenging (not as compliant as he should have been). After two emergency meetings in a one-week time span to talk through how we all can help him, it was decided to move him into Memory Care to be able to 'always be with his wife of 62 years'. Once again, staff stepped up to make sure everyone (residents, residents' family and staff) was happy and safe on a couple of days' notice. Thanks to all staff at HarborChase of Dr. Phillips (especially Darrel W., Natalia I., Millie C., Tamiria LJ., Mortrez B., and Ken) for moving mountains for the Atwood family!!

My wife is in memory care at Harbor Chase of Dr Phillips, and I have taken an apartment in Independent Living there to be nearby and assist with her care. We have been residents here since July 2020, and have seen the impacts of new facility growing pains and the pandemic on services here, which were sometimes less than outstanding. During the first half of 2022 the efforts of a new Executive Director and Memory Care Director brought significant improvements, and care and services were what you would expect in this first class facility. But both have now left for greener pastures, and service has declined some. Waiting to see whether the replacement leaders can regain some of the previous progress made. Four stars, and right now trending slightly downward.

Independent Living here is wonderful and the perfect mix of residents starting in their 50's. We've met a lot of new friends through the abundance of activities and social gatherings. Each staff member knows you by name which speaks volumes for their attention to each resident and individual needs. As for the food, 5 star...no complaints. We even have our special evening cocktail named after us and served as soon as we sit down! Now that's pretty special!! I hope you enjoy your experience as much as we have.

TESTIMONIAL*Words cannot explain the drama that became our situation, nor can they convey my sincerest gratitude, faith in, and new love for, the Harborchase at Dr. Phillips team! I hope you have time to read this all of the way though, it is a lengthy read, but one I felt I had to share with anyone in a similar situation, looking for a new home for their loved one.A little back storMy 91-year-old aunt, who lost both her husband and only child within weeks of each other several years ago, has been living on her own since that time. She has always been a very independent and private person, but like her siblings (my dad included), she is also full of sass, sarcasm and stubbornness. The last few years, she has had marked physical and mental decline, and has been relying more and more on her friends and neighbors, one amazing rockstar in particular. However, her home has also began to deteriorate and is in need of many repairs, especially a working A, C! This summer, with the extra isolation surrounding COVID-19, we found that her health and mental status was rapidly declining and she was in dire need of assistance that friends, neighbors and out of state family, could not provide for her any longer. Her mental decline, privacy and independence would not allow for someone to come in to her home that she did not know, nor would the state of her home allow for anyone to come and live with her without these repairs. She would not allow anyone except my husband to make any repairs to her home and we live out of state and cannot take care of the big ticket items on the few days that we can make it down each year. So with her in her home, we could not hire an A, C repairman, roofers, plumbers, etc. that were so desperately needed, without her becoming severely agitated and overwhelmed. Her rockstar neighbor, mentioned earlier, reached out to me and together we began the hard task of finding an assisted living facility that we felt would be a great fit for my aunt. The neighbor contacted, A Place For Mom, in her area and I reached out to the same group in my area. So many questions, many we didnt even realize that we had until we started making calls and finding out more and more information about the different types of facilities and amenities, came into the equation. After many calls and emails, discussions with other family members across the states, we decided on focusing our energy into Harborchase of Dr. Phillips. From the very first email and following phone calls with Millie Colon, I felt like I had found family. She was so patient! She went out of her way on several occasions! Due to me being out of state and thanks to COVID-19 isolation, she was able to find creative ways to share Harborchase with us. She wanted to know me and my situation, she wanted to know my Aunt and her situation, and she wanted us to know her, personally, as well. We have shared tears, laughter and photos throughout the entire process! She can tell from my voice now, when I am getting overwhelmed and when I need some extra grace or some creative problem solving! Fast forward to move-in week…My husband, youngest daughter and myself, drove down on the Thursday before my aunts move-in day on Monday. We visited with my aunt over the next few days, spoke many, many times of her need for an assisted living environment and began purchasing new furniture and mattresses for her to take to her new home. We not only purchased new furniture, but began picking out smaller pieces from her home to take to her new apartment, as well as washing up clothes and such to take with her. We purchased new toiletries, bathroom essentials and snacks for her new apartment too.During this time, the COVID-19 test results had not arrived yet, so we were praying that this hold up would not affect our move-in day as we were on borrowed time as it was. Move-in day came…On Monday morning, my husband, daughter and I, left the hotel bright and early and took our truck to a local U-Haul to pick up a reserved covered moving trailer. We then loaded up some items we had brought with us for my aunts new apartment, then went back and forth across Orlando for the next few hours picking up furniture and mattresses that we had purchased and had on hold to pick up that morning, then took the load to Harborchase. We were once again impressed with the team of awesome gentlemen that met us at the entrance and helped us unload the U-Haul. David, Troy and Jerome, just to name a few, were so friendly and helpful! An absolute treasure, each of them!he COVID-19 test results from Thursday were not to be found and another rapid test would be needed before she could move in. Millie in all of her awesomeness, was able to coordinate another rapid test to be performed on our way to move-in that afternoon. We left there and headed back across town to pick up my aunt. Her Rockstar friend, neighbor that I mentioned earlier, was with her all morning, making sure she had a good breakfast, shower, lunch and stayed cheerful. She also learned that my aunt had fallen during the night and had several new bruises on her leg and hip. When we arrived to pick them both up to go back to Harborchase to move in, we talked again of where we were going and why and went to load up…then the unexpected happened! My aunt, in her overwhelmed mental state from the thought of leaving her home of over 60 years, decided that she was not going anywhere. She dug her heels in and was not going to budge. After hours of attempting to change her mind, we called a local police friend of my aunts, thinking that her presence would help…we were wrong. The team of police that came, were absolutely wonderful as well, but could not change my aunts mind. They did however, upon seeing her living conditions and the heat of her home, offer me other possibilities to transferring my aunt to her new apartment. We ended up calling the paramedics to come help transfer her to the hospital to be checked out and then on to Harborchase. They also spent quite some time trying to convince my aunt to go on her own, but she would not hear of it and became increasingly agitated. They finally got her on the stretcher and into the ambulance and on to the hospital. On the way to the hospital, seeing that we were now several hours late for her 2:00 red carpet move-in, I talked with Millie and filled her in on the events of the last few hours and the new plan. She was very patient, and worked quickly to notify her team of the new plan and accommodated us for a late night arrival. Once in the ER with my aunt, I realized that the new plan might be a little out of reach. While there, I received a call from Millie, together with David, saying that the bed rails for the new bed were not with the bed. In a moment of complete exhaustion and worry, I lost it, this was my final straw! I had a slight breakdown, but Millie and David were completely amazing yet again. They gave me their afterhours phone numbers and I was able to call my husband who was waiting out in the truck with my daughter in the ER parking lot, and together they all handled the bed situation. I then received a call from the beautiful angel that she is, the amazing Tamiria! She was the understanding, reassuring, voice that I so needed to hear in that moment sitting in that strange ER with my overwhelmed, fearful aunt. Who by the way, was actually dehydrated from the heat of her home and had an infection that we did not know about and was going to admitted. Tamiria put me into contact with a private sitter service who could possibly help with a little one-on-one for a few days with the settling in of my aunt to her new apartment. She stayed in touch throughout the night and next morning, reassuring me that they could handle anything and that they could help with whatever our needs ended up being at a moments notice.Oh and by the way, David ended up having boards cut to fit my aunts new bed so that the box spring mattress would be secure and safe for my aunt upon her eventual arrival!Fast forward a few days…My family and I had to head back to our home out of state and my aunt was still in the hospital. What was I going to do? How was I going to get her home or to her new apartment either way? I had to leave to get back to the rest of my family at home and also back to work. Once again, Millie, Tamiria, and the whole Harborchase team came to the rescue. They helped set up transport for my aunt from the hospital, upon her eventual discharge, to her new apartment at Harborchase! They would be on standby, all they would need is a few minutes notice. They also let me know of a few other needs they felt that my aunt may need to have met, upon or shortly after, her arrival there. Their recommendations were so thoughtful and came from experience and were once again proof to my heart and soul that my aunt would be well looked after! They sent me pictures of her new apartment, all set up and decorated, since I could not go in to see it due to COVID-19. They sent me pictures of her beautiful view as well! Once I got the call from the hospital case worker that my aunt was being discharged, I placed one call to Millie, who notified her amazing team and they sprung into action! Within minutes, their driver was on the road and there at the hospital awaiting my aunt to arrive downstairs at the discharge area. He took her to Harborchase where a team of welcoming angels rolled out the red carpet for the new resident that they already knew so much about, but had not yet met in person. This family of new caregivers, celebrated her, cared for her and helped her settle in to her new home. They kept in constant contact with me during the transfer between facilities, once there and later that evening when they were tucking her in to bed for the night. They called again the next morning to let me know how her first night went and continued to make suggestions on how best to care for her from afar. Tamiria continues to keep in touch and I know she has only the best interests of my aunt at heart. The Harborchase team were each a God-send to me and my aunt in their own special way, at times when I thought could not adult anymore. It is really funny how perfect strangers, when united for a special cause and when rooted in their purpose that God has for them, can become family in such as short amount of time! I have no doubt that my aunt will thrive in her new home, with her new friends and family, and I cannot wait to get back to Orlando in a few weeks and see them all. I especially cannot wait for COVID-19 to be behind us and all of this social distancing to be over, so that I can not only see my aunt IN her new apartment but also finally hug this team of angels so tightly for the grace and love shown to me and my family though itall!
