As an active Fire Officer in the Department I view structures from a different perspective. Homestead Manor is a nursing home which I viewed in detail specially since my father is a patient. The nursing home is a one story which makes it beneficial not only for the patients but also for the visitors; no stairs or elevators to deal with. I’ve noticed the facility is up to code. Fire exists, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, alarm system, etc was up to date. This is a reflection on the head maintenance personnel and its staff. What I also noticed while visiting on numerous occasions the nursing staff is caring, supportive and courteous. The management is welcoming, the staff is respectful and always receiving visitors with a smile. Overall my family and I feel very grateful and at peace knowing our loving father is being taken care of at Homestead Manor. Homestead Manor is not a nursing facility it’s a second home for anyone wanting to find a place where a loving family member can be safely taken care of.

The Widow, Ida, who my Mother (Judy) cared for, came to the Homestead Manor in late 1982-1983. She was very well taken care of but Ida missed her Judy so much that she left her house & it's contents. Ida had no children & Judy lost both parents as a teen. In fact one day an NCA told me that Ida nghtly spelled out Judy J-u-d-y. That was because she & Judy played scrabble every day before living in the Manor. Sadly, the House was severely damaged in Hurricane Andrew & Judy sold it 'as is' after receiving the insurance claim monies. Judy moved to Ocala in 1993 then moved back to Miami in 1996 to help her 2nd daughter who was ill & passed in 1999 of brain cancer. Then in 2006 after going thru several more Hurricanes, she moved to an ALF South of Ocala near her eldest daughter. Judy made it to 90! RIP both Ida her husband Russell (1979) & Judy!

To his nurses, CNAs, doctors, activity staff, dietary staff, housekeeping, maintenance, and every employee who takes the time to dance, laugh, sing, and have fun with not only my dad but all the residents—you are truly special people. When we first met the staff in person, they welcomed us with open arms and gave us an amazing tour filled with comfort, kindness, and reassurance. After everything our family had been through, that meant the world to us. My father-in-law arrived after a very difficult experience at another nearby nursing home that had become an abusive, toxic environment. He was overmedicated, withdrawn, sad, and not himself. In just a short time at Homestead Manor, the change has been remarkable. He is smiling again, engaging with others, and even playing music again as the musician he has always been. Seeing him come back to life has been incredible. This place has also meant so much to my wife and our family. We live far away, and sharing in his care from a distance has been hard, especially while my wife has been fighting her own breast cancer battle for the last couple of years and still doing everything she could to care for her parents and my in-laws. The relief this team has given her is something I cannot put into words. Seeing her finally relaxed and smiling again is one of the best feelings, and one of the best decisions we ever made. From the reception team to the nurses, CNAs, doctors, activities, dietary, housekeeping, maintenance, and everyone in between, every single person has shown kindness, patience, compassion, and genuine care.
