My dad enjoys the variety of activities from professional musicians visiting to art classes and outings to DC restaurants and museums. This weekend they had a fantastic Kentucky Derby party! I moved into my Independent Living apartment at the Residences at Thomas Circle in early March 2026. I am just as comfortable as in the home I left behind, and living here is enriching my life. I’ve gotten to know many of the other residents and enjoyed their company at meals and during some of the great activities available here, including social events, musical performances, lectures, special interest groups like the Poetry Club, and field trips to DC museums, theaters, and restaurants. The dining room provides everything from gourmet dinners to casual lunches (my favorite”chili dogs and sweet potato tots). Thomas Circle provides excellent logistical support to Independent Living residents: examples include the many dedicated individuals who operate the Concierge Desk around the clock; housekeeping staff who discretely keep apartments and public areas spotless; and transportation staff with a mastery of DC geography who often provide a helping hand from door to door. I have especially appreciated getting to know Alberto, a member of the maintenance staff, whose patience, helpfulness, skill, and congeniality make it a pleasure to have his company for a few minutes as he performs tasks ranging from plumbing to picture hanging. I am also benefitting from the onsite physical therapy resources available here.

We toured several places while trying to decide where to place my grandmother, and choosing The Residences at Thomas Circle ended up being one of the best decisions our family could have made. From the very beginning, the administration and nursing staff stood out in a way that immediately put us at ease. They didn’t just talk about care, they showed it in how they listened, how they answered our questions, and how they treated my grandmother as a whole person, not just a resident. TBH I kind of wishes it was me staying there. Making this transition is emotional and scary, and we carried a lot of worry about whether she would truly feel safe, comfortable, and seen. But the team here took the time to learn her routines, her personality, and the little things that matter to her day-to-day. That level of attentiveness meant everything to us. Communication has always been thoughtful and reassuring, and we’ve consistently felt supported and included in her care. The environment is warm, clean, and genuinely caring, and you can feel the heart behind how this community is run. Most importantly, we know she is safe, respected, and treated with real kindness every day, which is a RELIEF since I don’t live close by.

Leaving my original review from a year ago below, but adding this update. Thomas Circle has proved absolutely wonderful -- we couldn't be happier with our decision to make it Mom's home. The team, lead by Sena and Addis, provide highly competent care that supports Mom's physical, emotional and mental health. A genuine sense of friendship and kindness informs every staff interaction -- Mom seems calmer, happier and very well cared for, which is such a gift to our family. It's a pleasure to spend time at TC and to know that even when we're not with her, she's in capable and caring hands. (and from 2024: While it's early days for my mom at Thomas Circle, I have been blown away by the kindness, responsiveness and professionalism of the team there during Mom's transition to assisted living. Laticia did an amazing job guiding us through the leasing process. Akira couldn't have been a better partner in getting Mom moved in and settled. Addis has provided wise advice and responsive care for Mom's health needs. Sena, the CEO, has been present, accessible and engaged throughout the transition. And Mom loves her apartment and has already made real connections with her new neighbors with the help of the wonderful staff. Thank you, TC, for making a hard change easier in every way.)

My dear mother is living her best life, thanks to the Residences at Thomas Circle. She has a comfy apartment in the assisted living section. The staff strike a perfect balance of being on hand when she needs help while giving her space to live with as much independence as possible. We are super impressed with the caring professionalism of all the staff, medical, dining, activities, administrative, janitorial, you name it, they are terrific. The on-site physical therapy, hair salon, bistro, and movie theater are great resources that contribute to the high quality of life my mother is experiencing. The other residents are friendly and welcoming. My mom and I love spending time with this new group of friends. We often share a cup of coffee and conversation in the bistro. The Residences at Thomas Circle is wonderful in every way!

To my pleasant surprise, I was able to schedule a tour at a time that was convenient for me, and I was delighted to find that the visit exceeded my expectations. The facility is exceptionally clean, and the staff were very welcoming. The Resident Service Director was fantastic in answering all of my questions, and I never felt rushed. The atmosphere was genuinely warm and inviting. It was heartening to see the actual residents looking happy and content to live there. When we arrived at the residence, we were thrilled to see how beautiful and clean it was. We were doing all our research from New York. Donna spent endless hours of her own time talking to us and communicating by email and texts Besides clearly seeing how she loves her job and helping people, she also took a personal interest in making sure every aspect of the move in and transition process ran smoothly. I recently had the opportunity to connect with The Residences at Thomas Circle while searching for an assisted living facility for my mother. Although my mother’s current medical condition ultimately ruled out the possibility of her becoming a resident, I was incredibly impressed by the level of support and care extended to me during this process, particularly by Community Relations Counselor, Laticia Rogers. Laticia went above and beyond in every sense. She took the time to speak with me in depth about a variety of resources and support systems that could potentially benefit my mother. What stood out most was her willingness to personally visit my mother at her current medical facility to better understand her needs and offer a more informed perspective on local options within the DMV area. Throughout all of our interactions, Laticia was not only highly knowledgeable and professional, but also genuinely kind and compassionate. Her recommendations have proven to be immensely helpful, and I am deeply grateful for the time, energy, and personal attention she provided. Even though my mother won’t be joining the Thomas Circle community, I now have an extremely positive impression of their commitment to service and advocacy”thanks entirely to Laticia’s outstanding efforts. On Saturday, March 29th I had the awesome opportunity to join the residents and staff for a Tea Around Town Double-Decker Bus Tour of Washington, DC. The weather was perfect and the Cherry Blossoms were in peak bloom. The sights and sounds of DC were amazing and the tea, treats and entertainment on the Bus were memorable!! After the Bus Tour, we were treated to a tour of The Residences at Thomas Circle by Donna Gayles, Community Relations Director. Oh my goodness, I was so very impressed with the facility and all of the well appointed community rooms, the apartments, amenities and the outdoor patio, to name a few. All of the residents that we encountered had big smiles and were actively engaged in various activities and living, in my opinion, a vibrant, energetic, engaging and joyful independent senior lifestyle, it's exactly what I desire to maintain for myself!!! The staff members we met were helpful, cheerful and by observing their interactions with the residents, were authentically connected. I saw a calendar for the month that included listings of daily events, special events, outings and entertainment options. It was near dinner time, and as we walked by the Dining Room and viewed the evening's menu, we also saw several of the plated options on display. They looked absolutely delicious and Donna invited us to stay for dinner. Unfortunately, we accepted a "rain check" for another day due a previously scheduled evening event. I can say with confidence, when the time comes in my life, when I want to continue my vibrant lifestyle and move into the heart of downtown Washington, DC, to be closer to all of the things I love about the city, entertainment, museums, shopping, restaurants, etc, not to mention that in addition to the option for independent living, they offer assisted living, short term care and memory care, The Residences at Thomas Circle, with God's blessings, is my choice!!! Several months ago I set out to find a Senior Living Community for myself. I've reached the point where I can do most things but It's clear that that is changing and I want to be in a safe, supportive environment as my needs change. I interviewed at least 35 communities in Maryland, Virginia and the District. NOTHING compares to the Residences at Thomas Circle (RTC). The comfort, care and excellence they are committed to is obvious in every aspect of life at RTC. It is particularly evident in the top notch culinary experience (GREAT food). It also shines in the too-many-to-name list of amenities which is far longer than any other facility in the area: Wi-Fi/internet, a fitness center, art studio, an onsite GWU office staffed by nurses and doctors (IMPORTANT), live musical performances, rehab facility, swimming pool, complimentary transportation, educational speakers, library, movie theater, grocery shopping, laundry service, covered parking to name but a few. Honestly I could go on for pages. The most important thing to me, however, is the staff. In truth I have never met such an unusual group of people in one place. Starting with Tee Yonker, my first contact, I was immediately impressed by her kindness, warmth, caring, sincere interest in helping me find whatever I needed, even if it wasn't RTC. When I came for a visit I realized the staff writ large (management, concierge, dining, housekeeping, driving, gym and rehab staff) are extraordinary. They think nothing of going well out of their way to help a resident. Even Sena, the Executive Director and busiest person there, spent an hour with me during which she listened, asked questions and decided I needed to be seen by a professional at GWU Clinic. She called and got me an appointment that afternoon. That's amazing care, especially for someone who is a guest. So here's to you Tee, Sena, Donna, Akira, Natalie, Maria, Victoria, Daneesha, Helen, Rashira, Priscilla - just to name a few! Thanks to you I made the decision to join RTC and am now the proud occupant of my own apartment. Life is good. T H A N K Y O U !!!!!!!!!!

My parents have been living at The Residences at Thomas Circle for almost a year now, and we’re so happy we chose this community. The independent living units are clean and comfortable, and we were lucky to find a 1BR with a den that made their move from their home of 50+ years so much easier. The residents here are wonderful”a really interesting mix of people from all walks of life and backgrounds, which makes the community feel vibrant and diverse. The staff is amazing too. From the housekeeping crew to the dining and kitchen teams, maintenance, and management, everyone goes out of their way to make my parents feel at home. Honestly, sometimes I forget we’re in DC because everyone here is so warm and kind”definitely not what you expect in a big city. One thing we really love is having the GW Medical Faculty Associates team right in the building a few days a week. It’s so convenient for quick check-ins and care. Plus, having nurses and home aides available when needed has been a huge relief for us. Knowing there’s that extra layer of support makes a big difference. The front desk staff is also fantastic”they greet every visitor with so much respect and courtesy. There’s a ton of variety in the activities here, so there’s always something for everyone, no matter their needs, abilities, or health. The dining services are another highlight. The team is incredible”we’re on a first-name basis with most of them, and it’s clear they really care about the residents. They remember everyone’s names, preferences, and even how they like their food cooked. Our favorite night is Tuesday when the Chef does themed dinners”Caribbean, French, Italian, Indian, and more. He even sets up a chef’s table where he cooks on the spot, which gives the residents a chance to connect with the team. It’s such a fun way to show appreciation, and it really makes the place feel like an extended family. The location is also super convenient, and having garage access makes visiting easy. All in all, we couldn’t be happier with The Residences at Thomas Circle!

Beyond the fantastic food, the team at The Residences at Thomas Circle is what truly sets this community apart. The staff is warm, attentive, and genuinely cares about creating a welcoming environment. They treat everyone like family, and it’s clear they take pride in making the Residences feel like a real home for residents and visitors alike. The amenities and events are another standout feature. They offer a plethora of amenities (roof top pool, theater room with actual theater-like seats, multiple dining options, etc.) and off and on-site activities that foster a vibrant community atmosphere. From off-site regular trips to on-site programs on estate planning and genealogy, and uniquely themed social gatherings (Flower Power HH) that bring residents, their families, and prospective residents and their families together. It’s a joy to see the thoughtful effort they put into every detail, making this place a true gem. I've asked if I can move in but unfortunately I don't meet the age requirement and my kids would miss me ;-). For now, I will continue to visit whenever the opportunity presents. I am truly grateful for the partnership we’ve built over the years, and I wholeheartedly recommend The Residences at Thomas Circle to anyone looking for an independent living senior community that combines comfort, care, and excellence.

My family went back and forth on the next home for our mother, and we ultimately (and easily) decided on The Residencies. She’s now been there for six months, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. Admin is easy to work with and so courteous, and we are happiest about the care, esp with the head nurse, Addis, and working with the GW MFA doctors. This was such a big step to take, but so worth it.

I've lived at RTC for three-and-half years. I've enjoyed the diversity of its population, the responsiveness of its leadership, and the variety of its on-site and off-site programming. RTC is a multicultural community with folks from many walks of life. The administration/staff skillfully guided us through the Covid-19 period . Now it is exciting that RTC is returning to a full range of programs, even some new ones. My one-room apartment is ideal for me. Two of my favorite programs are daily fitness and weekly TED talks. The shuttle service takes me to medical appointments, shopping trips, errands, and programs. Every community needs improvements. I'm confident that RTC's administration will make them. I have lived here for 10 years and I am an active 93 year old! This is a rental community and I like the flexibility that I do not have to buy in. If you move here, you should try to get involved because there is so much to do! At Thomas Circle I enjoy daily exercise, spending time by the rooftop pool, reading, political discussions and the niceness of the people who work here. I like the residents and get along with everyone.

I visit the New Renovated Resident of Thomas Circle. The facility is beautiful inside and very clean and colorful everybody there is so friendly and helpful. I have been coming to this facility 4 +years they are very serious about providing the best care for their patients. I have met the RN on the floor and Director of Nursing and Executive Director over the years very pleasant kindhearted people and very professional. Every time I come there I watch how the interact with their patients and that put a smile on my face because when you help people it has to come from the heart, and I can see that when I am there in the facility. Yes, I would recommend this facility to my love ones!!!

I have found Thomas Circle to care for my mother in a very sincere manner, especially since my mother arrived unexpectedly last summer after an emergency occurred in her townhome. I found sincere caring individuals in each department that I work with and cooperation to help accomplish all necessary tasks as Financial POA. The nurses are readily available, although their daily schedule is most challenging. I call at least weekly to find out how my mother is in health and favorite activities. Thanks Thomas Circle!!

In August, I helped my aunt move from her apartment of 50 years to the Residences at Thomas Circle after a hospitalization. Though she'd been putting off moving for quite some time, the first day she spent in her new apartment, she said it was perfect, and she grew accustomed to Thomas Circle very quickly. It was very easy to arrange some home health care for her, because LifeMatters has an office in the building, and I was really impressed at how well the whole staff of Thomas Circle and the LifeMatters team worked together. I've enjoyed getting to know the other residents of the building when I've visited, and the location right in the heart of downtown DC is vibrant and filled with opportunities. The staff of Thomas Circle couldn't be more accommodating, and the food is very good. They offer morning fitness classes, movie nights, guest performers, trips to DC museums, a cocktail hour on Fridays-- the list goes on, and if you're a city person, the location can't be beat. I'd recommend the Residences at Thomas Circle to anyone who wants to be in the heart of Washington DC, with friendly, caring support and access to a ton of opportunities in the city.

I feel that he’s been getting compassionate and attentive care from the staff, and it’s helped him get through the physical and mental challenges he’s faced since the injury that caused him to need this support. The pandemic has made it extremely difficult to have a clear day-to-day view of his life, but from everything I can see, this has been a good place for him to be.

The Residences at Thomas was a wonderful home for my husband (80) who has Parkinson! There was PT everyday and also Speech therapy. There were 24 hour Nurses on duty and available! Always secure with all precautions taken during this time of COVID. We are thankful for being able to find a caring home in this difficult time!

My sister was a resident in the Independent Living area of The Residences at Thomas Circle. The Residences at Thomas Circle is more than a place to stay. Residens can be as active and as busy, or not active or not busy, as they chose. The ammenities offered are extensive and provide many opportunities for the residents. However, the major benifit to living at the Residences at Thomas Circle is the staff and the staff's caring approach to the residents. The Resident Services Manager was expecially helpful and approached her position not as a chore to be done, but as a calliing to help others. That attitude and the extensive ammenities listed on the website make the Residences at Thomas Circle an ideal place for someone looking for Independent Living. Also, the presence of medical personel on site is an added bonus. I did not have any contact with the Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, and Memory Care areas, but I assume that the same philosophy of resident care which I observed in the Independent Living Area guides the staff in those other areas

There is such a warmth in the building not just because of its aesthetic appeal but because of the caring staff that works there. My sister lived with me for 8 years before I found the Residences at Thomas Circle. They provide excellent care for her and the staff are great. They are familiar with the residents and their families, the facility is always clean, the food and food choices are delicious and freshly prepared, there’s many daily activities for the residents and it gives me a piece of mind knowing that my sister is being properly cared for by a 24 hour medical team. My connection to The Residences at Thomas Circle is multi- tiered and deeply felt. It begins with a belief that it is arguably the best retirement community in our area. I have had the privilege of knowing the truly remarkable woman who has served as its Medical Director for many years, a geriatrician who treated my own mother many years ago with the same care and gentleness that she now treats the current residents of Thomas Circle. In addition, let me mention the Director of Nursing, fondly known as Addis because her true name is quite difficult to pronounce. The day I met her was the day my adopted aunt was admitted to Thomas Circle for rehabilitation. My adopted aunt was very uncomfortable upon admission and what struck me was that the Director of Nursing stayed until 9pm the evening of that admission, until my friend was comfortably tucked into bed and finally sleeping. Addis always goes the extra mile and she sets an example every day for her staff! More recently I have had occasion to visit residents in Assisted Living and I find that the nursing staff are responsive to resident requests and are well versed in techniques sometimes needed in difficult situations. Further, there are many wonderful individuals who serve in various capacities supporting the services provided by Thomas Circle, such as the Executive Director, Resident Services Director ,the receptionist, Physician’s Assistant- all of whom I know-they are all engaged, committed and very special!

My mother has lived at Thomas Circle Independent living for almost 10 years. I realize now that the extensive activity calendar is meant to provide activities to all abilities and interests. Whereas Mom used to do more trips outside the community and independently, she now takes advantage of the many options closer to home and within the community. The staff is genuinely caring and patient. As a frequent visitor to the community, I’m always amazed at how the staff knows every resident, even the new folks. There are many long-term employees who are the core of the operation and are wonderful. I live a few hours away but rest easy knowing Mom is safe 24/7 with the caring staff and other safety procedures that are in place.

I placed my husband at RTC in February, before we were fully vaccinated and while all the Covid restrictions were still in place. The staff was so creative and helpful in navigating all the restrictions in a way that kept everyone safe but still made him feel welcome and at home. Since then, he has been diagnosed with two additional serious medical conditions. The care he has received throughout has been just excellent. And while he was initially very apprehensive about leaving home, now he happily says RTC is his home. He enjoys the staff tremendously, jokes and laughs with them constantly, and is no longer isolated at home, with only me and an occasional health care aide. He tells me he feels very well cared for there. He enjoys the company, loves the food, and in spite of all his serious medical conditions, is upbeat and happy. It is so good to see him contented and enjoying himself in the face of all these medical issues. I am so grateful to the wonderful staff. They are consistently caring, uplifting and pleasant. It’s a wonderful environment. Really so pleased to have him there.

The location is in the heart of DC. They have some onsite parking for residents and visitors- which is very helpful! My mother lived there for 15 years- 9 years in Independent Living and 5 years in Assisted Living. The management has changed about every 3 years, which has been frustrating. The staff has generally been very dear and caring towards the residents. The current admin is great to work with. It was an excellent place for my mother. I'm grateful for all they have done. My only real complaint is that the apartments in AL are not well suited for wheelchairs. They were never really modified. None of the sinks were accessible to someone in a wheelchair.

If I had another living parent who was interested in independent living, I would look no further than to the Residences at Thomas Circle. The staff at TC is excellent - caring, considerate, amiable, and knowledgable. The apartments for independent living are well appointed and an in home care facility is on the premises, making scheduling an aide easy and affordable as they offer half hour increments. A PT studio and a beauty salon are also easy to get to on the Lower Lobby. The meals are quite good. The location of Thomas Circle is also great - close to several grocery stores, pharmacies, and entertainment once it opens again. A bonus to my mother who moved in Jan '21, she and all the residents and staff were vaccinated against Covid. I cannot speak more highly of my family’s experience with Thomas Circle, especially staff members Denise Kasper and Laticia Rogers, and Cameron Brumfield of Life Matters.

I went to the Residences for their rehab therapy program, and had an hour a day of physical therapy and occupational therapy each, with occasional therapy on the weekend. I was there five weeks and made great progress; the therapists were excellent and my time was well-spent. The rehab facility is small and the gym is one room--for me this was perfect. Lots of personal attention, casual, and friendly. I would highly recommend this program, especially to those who prefer this type of environment.
