A few months ago, I unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to put my father in an assistant living facility, as his mental health was declining. After touring some, I felt that Acdemy Point in Mystic was the best option for him and am glad that we chose it. The apartments are beautiful and clean, with beautiful views of downtown Mystic and the river. The restuarant on the 4th floor has great food and a really great menu with again a beautiful view! They have many activies everyday for the residents to do. The staff is great, they are patient, kind and always there to help!!! Especially Laura S. who I have worked with from the beginning of my Dad moving in. She has gone above and beyond for my Dad and for me many times in this difficult challenging period of our life's!! I would also like to acknowledge Joe who is maintaince/housekeeping who helps my Dad ALOT with the TV, phone etc... he is always very responsive when there is a problem and again very patient and kind. This whole experience has been so overwhelming for me and my family, but the staff there have been absolutely wonderful!! I highly recommend Academy Point..

I had the pleasure of working with Laura and Corina at Academy Point for a mutual resident. It is clear they care about their residents. They came to our facility to visit their resident, and were kind enough to visit with many of our residents-which the residents absolutely loved! Academy Point itself is beautiful in a great location with stunning views.

Academy Point (AP) has been an answer to our prayers. Early on in our search for the right facility for Dad, I spoke with their Director of Community relations, Laura Steele. I found her to be truly kind, helpful and supportive, and a wealth of knowledge. She checked in with me at intervals to see how things were going and to offer guidance. When I told her we were considering another facility, Laura was supportive and offered to continue to be a resource to me. Her kindness, deep knowledge and professionalism meant so much to me. To our surprise, the other facility we visited turned out to be a poor fit. Then, another facility we saw was a much better fit, but would be too expensive. So, even though it was a bit beyond our price range, we decided to look more closely at AP. I toured AP and was both delighted and impressed. Its smaller size, kind staff, pleasant decor and lovely setting (with spectacular views) convinced me that our Dad would be happy there”even if he adamantly refused to go. So, we had the right place, but a tremendous barrier remained: getting Dad there. Again, Laura was there to help us navigate what turned out to be one of the most difficult situations we’d ever encountered. Ultimately, we were able to move him to AP, and, with the support of the kind and attentive staff, he adjusted and settled in. He is happy there. He enjoys the food and the staff. He even joins a group of residents for breakfast each morning. He loves the attention he receives each day. We are forever grateful and thankful that Dad is happily and safely in his new home at AP.

When visiting the Academy Point at Mystic, I was very impressed. The rooms and common areas were so clean and beautiful. The staff was so kind and attentive. I really felt their genuine care and respect for the residents and also families and friends. The Academy Point at Mystic is absolutely a place to proudly call home.

My Dad was a resident here many years ago and was an influencing factor in bringing my Mom here now. Many of their staff have made a personal bond with my Mom. You can tell they care by their actions. Taking the time to sit down and explain things to her, and giving her hugs when she is upset. My Mom and I are really close and it was hard for me to come to terms that I could no longer take care of her at home anymore. I feel at ease knowing how well she is being cared for.

I have had occasion to do business here several times and this week, I enjoyed a breakfast during our networking group meeting. The staff here is exceptional, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to residents’ needs Chef David served us a delicious meal . Great service with a Smile always.

Both my mom and dad have lived at Academy Point in the last ten years. The staff is loving, comforting and caring. The programs have really helped enhance self esteem and well being during a time when people are losing a lot of their life long abilities. I love when my mom gets mixed up staff says she is "pleasantly confused'! It's comforting to know people who work with warm hearts are brightening my mom's day when I can't be there and am as my mom says, " you are a continent away.!"

My mother moved into Academy Point in Mystic in 2018 after falling several times in her home. Her last fall resulted in a severe leg break which required extensive surgery. She was bedridden in a non-load bearing status’ for six months so her leg could heal. My 85-year-old stepfather was unable to care for her needs in their home where she’d likely fall again. So, my spouse and I toured facilities to find them a new home. We decided on Academy Point. The facility is light and clean, staff are friendly and courteous, and my mother has a fabulous view of the mystic seaport from her room. Prices were competitive with other assisted living facilities. When my mother arrived at Academy Pt, she needed a significant amount of assistance completing her basic daily needs. The staff happily provided that care, albeit for an additional cost. As my mother recuperated, she was able to regain control and taper back on the additional services/costs. During this period, my stepfather passed away. Bonnie and her team were great, helping my mom through this difficult transition both physically and emotionally. We even held a memorial service for my stepfather on the back patio at the Academy Point facility. Finally, I should add that Bonnie and her team have managed the Covid situation in a balanced and professional way. My mother received both shots in an expeditious manner. Very few residents became sick. And they made every effort to enable family to visit in a safe manner. Living in the Academy Point community, my mother seems happier than she’s been in years, laughing, telling jokes, arguing about politics. She cares for herself, has friends, attends reading groups, paints in art class, and, prior to Covid, started to play Bridge again. She recently called me to tell me excitedly that she’d been made Dummy’ during her last bridge game. I’m not sure what that means, but I think it’s a good thing!

My mother, who suffers from dementia, is a new resident (not yet a month) at Academy Point. Mom is finding it difficult to acclimate to her new surroundings and find where she fits in. Very recently I stopped in for a visit only to find her extremely upset and crying over a situation she relayed as 'her truth'. I texted Nancy Chaput asking if she was in house and could we get together for a few minutes. She immediately responded to my text and brought with her, Tashara, the site nurse. After I shared mom's concern, all three of us went back to mom's apartment to speak with her. Dementia is an ugly disease robbing one of their memory and sometimes true reality. I was very impressed with both Nancy and Tashara. Tashara discussed mom's perceived issue, told her it would never happen again (I'm sure the issue never happened in the light mom perceived it to begin with) but Tashara tried to impress upon my mother that and if mom had any future issues or concerns, mom was to contact Tashara immediately. Both Nancy and Tashara were both extremely patient when speaking with mom. Mom's transition into happily living at Academy Point will be an on-going challenge, but I believe Academy Point has excellent, caring staff at all levels, so i am hopeful that with time, mom will become a happy resident. My family members have been residents at Academy Point. What they like most about living there is the caring and compassionate staff, the food, the activities, and the family feeling. The services meet the needs at the time of need which was important to my parents. They can live as independently as possible, but when a health issue comes up, the staff are an extension of the family. They have helped my family in countless ways, and for that I am grateful.

We are extremely happy with the care and attentiveness of the entire staff. They are always there for us at any time day or night when we have questions or need guidance. My mother in law is much happier, healthier and active since she moved in 2 1/2 years ago. We would strongly recommend Academy Point to anyone.
