Our mom was at Applewood for almost 2 years. Not only did she enjoy her new surroundings, but it was easy for her family to visit with her. My mom’s 103rd birthday celebration at Applewood was a highlight. While many activities were available, her involvement in the community varied due to her physical condition and poor eyesight. One of the best memories was a gambling trip to Blackhawk. She didn’t go broke on the penny slots. The staff provided excellent care to my mom and her family. Thank you.

Aundrea, who manages memory care on site, has been wonderful to work with. She is responsive, thoughtful, and an excellent problem solver. In response to the review left by Brad Markowsky (who resides in AZ)- It seems his complaint is that "Morningstar" does not accept Medicaid, which caused this unfortunate situation. I feel the "star" rating of the review should be reflective of the actual facility- ie the building, cleanliness, staff, services provided, etc. Morningstar Applewood not accepting Medicaid is most likely a corporate decision, not this individual facility's decision. Even if it was on an individual facility basis, that is their right as a business to accept it or not. Yes, it's unfortunate, and yes it's a very hard situation for my 102 yr old mother and our immediate family in the area that's supporting her and working through this situation, but we do not blame the facility. Over the 5 years she resided at Morningstar Applewood, the facility did change ownership, and there were some things that we felt could have been better, but our overall experience was very positive. It's one of the few facilities in the area that would take care of her dog as a service they provide, which was huge for her well being. With her age, she required an extra level of care/attentiveness from staff. We did not witness a "different experience at the end", implying that her care declined after realizing she would be leaving the facility. As stated in the response by Morningstar Applewood, they offered support, and they were very thoughtful with her birthday party (not only this year, but previous years as well). I had a wonderful relationship with Morgan who is genuinely kind, caring and compassionate and was always very responsive to my inquiries and handled any situation quickly. Morgan was very helpful when it came to getting mom into a Medicaid facility. The care staff was always very attentive, patient, caring and gave my mom and her dog extra attention. The facility is very nice, well kept, clean and the staff is attentive, friendly and helpful. I'm very happy with the care my mom received. I would not hesitate to choose this facility for my loved one and I have recommended the facility to neighbors and friends who are searching for care.

My wife was a resident of Morning Star until her passing on July 1st. I am writing to you on behalf of myself and my wife’s daughter. We both want to thank you and the staff of Morning Star for the care that my wife received while she was living at Morning Star. My stepdaughter and I have had many conversations regarding the care that my wife was receiving at your facility. We both agree that my wife was well taken care of. Your staff treated her with kindness and compassion. They were attentive to her needs and helped to make her as comfortable as possible. At all times, your staff were professional and alert to what she was experiencing that day. One thing that I noticed was whenever I arrived at Morning Star to visit my wife. Your staff would always know where she was. In her apartment, common room, or doing activities. Your staff would always keep us informed as to what was going on with my wife regarding her medications and current condition. If my wife took a fall, as she did several times. It was greatly appreciated that your staff would call to let me know what had happened and that she was all right and uninjured. I would like to say that your staff was fantastic and caring. I would like to send my gratitude to the Morning Star Staff. They took great care of my wife. And in my opinion, they would go above and beyond to help my wife whenever it was needed. My family and I are extremely grateful to Morning Star for all you did for us.

Andrea, Destinee, and Brittany at Applewood MCare are tops in my book. While there are some things about MorningStar I don't like, we moved our mother here from a Juniper (which has since been sold, shocker) community near BelMar after the horrific treatment she received on the ALiving side there. We needed to switch from ALiving to MCare anyway, but there was no way she was staying down there. Having a parent decline with dementia/Alzheimers is sooo tough. The above-mentioned staff have been amazing not only to mom, but have taught me patience and compassion for her along the way. The prices are insane, especially without insurance, but it's like that everywhere and until our US healthcare system changes, I don't think the prices will either. Finding skilled nursing, especially MCare, staff is next to impossible (imagine taking care of your loved one times 20?)and leads to high turnover so that shouldn't be shocking. We do miss Tyler (who's been elevated), Tracy and Kianna!

We found a place for our mother/mother-in-law that was close to our home. That was not our main deciding factor, but once we visited MorningStar at Applewood, we were pleased with everyone we met, and everything we saw. We spent a long time asking questions, and the staff members were very patient, answering everything and explaining options. Then a couple reps came to her home and met with us there to explain everything to her. She did NOT want to move, but agreed she was no longer safe living alone, and refused to have "strangers" 24-7" in her home. After the meeting, she agreed to visit for a tour. After that, she agreed, and we got busy moving. We were very pleased how quickly she adapted to her new surroundings, and everyone gave her (and us) the support we needed. Especially Taylor, LeRoy, and Tony. I would highly recommend this luxury senior assisted living community.

My wife needed short term respite care recently. Morningstar was great. They worked with us virtually for tours and care conferences as we were out of state. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door by Magen and some of the care team and given an impromptu tour and introductions to staff and some residents. I was impressed by how friendly and helpful the staff were. The facilities were nice. The food was good. There were plenty of activities for residents to participate in. I’m grateful for the effort they made to make my wife’s stay as nice as possible.

The team Cell at Morningstar specifically Magen, Tyler, and Andrea have gone above and beyond to make this a manageable experience for me and my family. Having a loved one go to Memory Care is probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to do and they showed up at every single turn with compassion, empathy, encouragement, and love. They went above and beyond to provide updates of how my grandma was doing, and even made special visits to her to ensure she was adjusting appropriately. They truly showed genuine concern for me and my family . I’m not sure that I would’ve been able to make it through this without them. The facility and the staff are amazing!

My wife had early onset Alzheimer’s and moved into Applewood in September 2022. She died there in May 2024. While there was a turnover of care staff during her time there, all the caregivers were kind, loving, gentle and attentive. My wife felt comfortable, safe, secure and totally at ease with the staff. These were the most important aspects of her experience since she was not in a condition to enjoy the other amenities that are offered. The location is convenient and the recent update to the decor really makes Applewood feel contemporary. There is a very nice public park directly behind the facility to which I frequently took my wife when she was well enough. It was a convenient location for my daughter to take her mother when she was visiting with her toddler as there is a nice playground.

My dad is a resident at Morning Star Applewood. He has been there over a year. He has a room overlooking the park. Morning Star is very accommodating to my dad’s needs. If I have concerns Tyler will address them immediately. This place is clean. The staff is wonderful with my dad. I’m happy my dad is at Morning Star Applewood. I moved my 99 year old Mother to this facility mid December. The staff and caregivers made her so welcome and I know they took great care of her. Her caregivers watched out for her since she was 99 and pretty weak and I’ve seen selfies that they took with Mom which told me their interactions with her were personal. Unfortunately she didn’t get the opportunity to live at Morningstar very long as she passed away not long ago. But everyone there has been so sympathetic, caring, reaching out to support us. I would highly recommend Morningstar on 2800 Youngfield in Lakewood.

My mother lived at MorningStar Applewood for nearly two years. She lived on the 3rd floor and then moved to the 1st floor. Her studio apartments were both bright, clean, and designed with safety and efficiency in mind. Each of her rooms had a wonderful view to nature, which was important to mom. The location, just off I-70 and near a King Soopers, was convenient for access and associated errands. The management has improved dramatically since MorningStar acquired the community from Juniper. As expected, there was significant staff turnover and it has been for the better. The MorningStar Applewood team is accessible, compassionate, service-oriented, and skilled. I want to make particular note of the Memory Care team who far exceeded my expectations.

Applewood Place Memory Care has been wonderful to my mother and our family. The staff is caring and compassionate and have been very helpful while we make the transition into this new experience. I really love the feel of a home environment with a big kitchen in the center and a tranquil outdoor courtyard near her bedroom. It’s a small and easy building for my elderly dad to maneuver to go visit my mom. Her room is big and has a calming scenic view from her window. I highly recommend Applewood Place.

Although the transition has been a bit of a challenge for dad, the Applewood Place team has been just wonderful! This assisted living is AMAZING! I recently visited there and the residents were happy, it was clean, and all staff had a smile (under their masks) but were happy to be there. Leadership members that I did meet or cross along path said hello and introduced themselves. I have seen some great changes with the new ED in place and additional members they are adding. I have been to many were is dull or quiet but this felt like you walked into grandmas home (at least it does for me) also nice touch actually using the bistro/coffee bar finally!! Kudos to bringing that back. Maybe now a small pub to the right ” just some feedback! Thanks team Applewood for the care you give my loved one and the care and love the team gives to each other.

We toured this facility and I was impressed. Megan showed us around and we got a chance to talk to other employees and some of the residents. The residents looked happy and well and some raved about the food. The interactions, between employees and patients, seemed friendly and respectful. My mom Bobbie Bond has only been in the memory unit since late Oct but she is thriving. And, she loves it! Every staff member I've been in contact with has been loving, caring and friendly. The caregivers who work directly with Mom have been great - can't remember all their names but you know who they are. My sisters and I are comforted that Mom's being so well taken care of by all the staff. I appreciated Jean and Kelsey at the front desk Deborah there, too. Of course Pete, Nikki, Ryan and Susan, Gina, Lindsey, Ariel and Stacey have been really helpful and activities person Tracey is the best. There are really so many deserving caregivers and staff at Atria Applewood, that it is hard to select just one. In this case however, I would like to give a shout out to Breanne. My mother (Gene Hawkins), recently took a fall resulting in a fracture of her left arm. This was a most unfortunate mishap for Gene who otherwise had been doing so well getting around on her own for the most part. Breanne stepped up and was there checking in to see how Gene was doing even when she wasn't working. When she was working she can be counted on to provide a level of care that is truly outstanding and exemplary. Living some distance away, I can be assured that Gene is being well looked after by Breanne and a host of others. Please know how grateful my brothers and I are for all those who support Gene each and every day. Thank you. It is always a treat to run into Breanne coming and going at Atria. She brightens the room when she comes in to deliver medications or provide support.
