My mother resided at Melody Living between June 1 and July 22, 2021. During that time my mother experienced 1 hour + wait times on call button pushes, medication errors, missed meals, unappetizing meals, missed bathing, inadequate record-keeping, and high staff and management turnover. There was an ambulance ride to the hospital because she had been left unassisted too long in a chair, and an incident where she was left for over an hour undressed sitting on her bed due to the understaffing that was chronic at that time. The caregiver helping her change for bed left her int that state to help with another resident who had fallen. Staffing was down to only 1 or 2 people evenings, and there were many resident falls that kept the staff too busy to help everyone who required it. Assisted Living and Memory Care shared this sparse staff. The facility was in constant COVID 19 “outbreak” status, so we never saw much of the building. They tried to prevent us from visiting my mother in her room to help her. The ombudsman was able to tell us our rights and we got access via lawful compassion care visits. The management and staff turned over constantly from the time we signed a contract to our departure, and the company relied heavily on temp agency staff. We were lied to prior to the signing of our contract regarding the RN staffing at the facility, and the company did not honor our contract, which included a specific rental rate and a discount of 50% off rent for the first month. My mother was assessed at the lowest level of care with no records to justify this assessment given her physical disabilities. The RN who assessed her prior to move in had left Melody Living (in the space of about 3 weeks), and the RN who was doing her intake assessment on June 1 had already given her two-week notice. We requested records and begged for a bill. I went to the ombudsman for the facility with all the troubles we were having that were not being addressed, and she recommended that I file a complaint with Colorado State due to the seriousness of the issues. She had also spoken with my mother and other residents there with similar issues. I filed the complaint with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and learned that we were not the only ones currently filing a complaint about Melody Living. An investigation ensued which verified all that I have stated above. I received the verification letter from the state after we had moved my mother out of the facility to one that is consistent and well-staffed. I paid Melody Living the amount we owed had my mother gotten the care agreed to in her contract and followed all the procedures required for terminating our agreement there. This payment was accompanied by a letter to the Executive Director, and both were accepted. Later in 2021, the facility started sending us bills for charges that were unexplained and un-itemized. I requested explanations for the charges, and each time I was either put off or not responded to. We are still living the nightmare of Melody Living with these unexplained bills, and I am having to seek legal representation at this time. We did not sign their arbitration only clause, so I run the risk of being sued for writing truthfully about this. Watch out for facilities that assess care levels below the needs of residents because they can then justify hiring too few staff to handle the work load. Also, ask about staffing levels and the number of in-house staff versus temp staff. Check to see that management has not turned over and that the actual RN staff is consistent. We found that the hourly caregiving staff universally want to help the residents, and at the right facility, they can do a very good job. Melody Living is the wrong facility and a drive to get residents to sign on is the focus, not the care. For my mother, it was a dangerous place.

Nathalia is hands down the best tour guide/marketing rep I have ever met (Sebastian is a lose second over at Independent Living). I have plenty of experience shopping for assisted/independent living for parents. I learned the lingo and what to expect when I shopped for my dad… independent living first, then assisted living then funeral. I recently started shopping for my mother in law, P.F. Who lives with me and her daughter. PF lived alone on a mountain side until she totaled her car. She tried to move home months later, but contracted COVID immediately. Hospital, Rehab, back to my basement. She cannot live alone. She has worn her daughter out completely. I know the signs. Time for a place to park mom to everyone’s benefit. I had one hour. I know the lingo and basics. Nathalia gave me a complete info package including all pricing. Toured the Assisted Living common areas and rooms appropriate for my MIL. The place is gorgeous. The staff goes above and beyond. I questioned everyone I met. Long tenured staff. Happy to work here and it shows. Not cheap, but certainly in line with my predictions for this level of care. Penrose St. Francis Hospital across the street. Walmart across the other street. Woodmen Road/Powers Blvd intersection. Everything included you could reasonably expect. Cell phone/beauty salon extra. 24hr on site RN. Secure, safe, warm, homey, views of the Rockies and Pikes Peak. Parking! The list goes on. My search is over. When mom is ready, this is her new home. She toured with me a few days later and she loves it. Now she has a viable option when she and her daughter can’t take each other anymore. Not funny, just the emotional reality of taking care of your aging parent when nobody else around to help. Melody Living is here to help.

My mother has been there since soon after opening. Fantastic facility. It is very clean and well maintained, as well as the residents apartments. Good communication with administrators and staff which is very important. Staff is very helpful and accommodating. If family has any questions or concerns they address them immediately. This is the 3rd facility we have had our mom in (due to lack of care issues previously) and I believe Melody is the best assisted living, memory support facility in the Colorado Springs area. To Melody Living: thank you for the highest quality of care! Excellent job! Our family appreciates yall so much!

My mother has been at Melody Living since they first opened and has been very happy. We have found the staff to be extremely skilled, helpful, and nice. The facility is new and very pretty. There are more and more events for the residents to participate in, which we all find important. Great job Melody, and keep up the good work.

My parents were some of the first people to move into Melody Living when it opened. From the very beginning the staff made them feel at home. The facility itself is beautiful, clean, inviting and very functional. My parents have commented so many times that they feel spoiled living there! Every request my parents have made has been listened to and implemented if at all possible. They have always felt they are part of the team that is coordinating their care - not just residents who are receiving care.The staff always makes us feel welcome as well, including our kids (12, 10 and 7). My kids are greeted warmly every time they visit Grandpa. There is a media room with video games and movies and a playground outside. Our kids want to move in!My mom passed away in July this year and the staff were fantastic. Several of the care partners even visited my mom in the hospital - on their days off! My Dads birthday was the week after Moms death and the staff rallied around him with a birthday cake, songs and lots of hugs. They continue to make sure Dad is doing well in this new season of life. My siblings and I are all at peace knowing our Dad is in a safe, healthy, happy place.

The bathrooms are off the bedrooms for the convenience of the residents who need their trips to the restroom from bed to be as short and quick as possible. As a cna, this makes assistance most convenient. The floor plan seems to match the thoughtful layouts I have seen at every other LTC facility.Disclaimer; I do not work here. I can however see the floor plan on the website and its logical and standard.
