Our experience at Brookdale Monument Valley was very much a mixed bag. My mother lived in the assisted living section at Brookdale Monument Valley for one year, during which time I visited 2-3 times a week and was well acquainted with the staff, events, and procedures of the facility. There were numerous staff who were absolutely wonderful, sweet and caring, encouraging and helpful. I cannot emphasize enough how dear and loving they were to my mother. We did, however, have several negative interactions with certain staff members which were very distressing. In addressing these issues, care conferences were scheduled with the director and staff, and I felt like we were heard with compassion and concern. Assisted living facilities across the country are facing a shortage of staff and this facility is no different. Weekends are very “quiet” and I learned to arrange all medication changes or supplies to arrive by Friday due to the sparse staffing over the weekend. We did have several problems with the administering of medications over the course of the year, and it was evident that I had to stay on top of this critical issue despite paying Brookdale to handle the ordering and administration of all meds. My mother was physically challenged, but mentally competent, when she entered the assisted living apartment, and I selected Brookdale Monument Valley due to their graduated levels of care which enable their residents to remain in AL. Over the course of the year, while we were charged for the extra care, we found that the assistance provided did not meet our need or expectation due to limited staffing. Some staff were not fully trained in addressing residents with physical challenges–moving my mother from her chair to a wheelchair, placing beverages within easy reach, etc. were frequent obstacles as my mother’s illness progressed. The staff did not always respond in a timely manner when called for assistance. Towards her later days, unable to move herself in the wheelchair, she was left to sit through the day in her room. As most of the residents at Brookdale were fairly ambulatory, my mother was the exception, creating care issues due to her personal physical inabilities. When my sister and I settled my mother into Brookdale, we were both surprised that despite our daily presence the entire first week, none of us experienced an initiation or introduction to the procedures, routines, rules, or services of Brookdale. When my mother died, I had to hunt down the business person to learn what the process was for exiting Brookdale. In the midst of my grief, I should not have needed to be responsible for this step. Likewise, I should not have needed to remind them 4 and 6 weeks later of the missing refund. Conversely, Brookdale has been good about sending several important pieces of mail to me, which has been very appreciated. This is a lengthy review to say that, like most assisted living facilities, the family needs to be very involved in insuring their loved one receives the care and attention that they need…and that they are paying for. You will have to ask questions, be proactive, and stand up for your parent, but this is true for any and all places. I liked the staff at Brookdale Monument and genuinely felt that they cared for my mother. While there was room for improvement, I was grateful for placing my mother in their care, and would recommend this facility.

Brookdale Monument Valley has taken away our concerns about having to put our mother in a facility. They have always welcomed us and treated us, as well as our mother, as family. They love our mother and that is nothing we would EVER have expected to happen. We have entered the end stage of life for mom, a very difficult time obviously. But they have joined with us, cried with us and let us know how much she meant to them. And for that, we will forever be grateful.

My spouse has received excellent, thoughtful, and attentive care from the entire staff. I have witnessed almost daily the kindness and consideration of each patient displayed by the care staff and the health care staff. I can't imagine a better place or better care than she receives as Brookdale Monument Valley.

My aunt lived there for 2.5 years until her passing when she was 91. She was very happy, and made many friends with both staff and residents. We all enjoyed the coziness of the facility.....more like a large home than a senior residence. One thing we enjoyed (as her family), we got to know the staff on a first name basis, which might not have been possible in a larger location. My aunt remarked that she'd observe the staff being very caring to all residents, no matter their personal challenges. This meant so much to all of us.

My father lives here and is very happy. Everyone treats him with kindness and respect. Staff at all levels are involved in direct care throughout the day so he knows everyone. They told us, when we were considering where he would live, that their goal was to provide all the care so that we could focus upon visiting and enjoying our time with him. Theyve done just that. He loves the people, the food, his apartment and his view of the mountains. He feels safe, comfortable and loved. Who could ask for more?

My wife and I toured Brookdale Monument Valley Park last November in hopes of bringing my elderly father in from another state to live at Brookdale. In August our family agreed that this was going to be dads best option moving forward so I reached out to them long distance and started making plans.Judy was my contact person at Brookdale and she was wonderful with correspondence, answering all my questions and make dads move in as simple as possible. This will be dads sixth week and our family is very pleased with the genuine care and support Brookdale has given him. Its really comforting knowing dad is in a safe and loving environment. I highly recommend Brookdale Monument Valley Park for a senior assistant living community.

We have a loved one in memory care. The staff is very competent and professional, and, at the same time relational--patient, kind and thoughtful. They understand each resident and their unique needs and also understand extended family needs (adult children, etc.) as well. When a loved one has dementia, it can be heartbreaking and somehow the team brings focus on how we can all live in the moment and appreciate this time of life, even when it is difficult. They bring love, joy and humor into the community creating a safe and warm setting--home away from home. I wish we could give individual recognition to each person on this review however there probably is not enough space. 🙂 This review is one way our family can say a big Thank you.

My dad was here two and a half years after having been at two other assisted living facilities. The staff here was marvelous. So much better than the other two. My dad was a hand full but, Brookdale really worked with him and us. We are extremely grateful. They were also much more affordable!

My father was here and the thing that sets this place apart from others is the kind, caring and professional staff. I can't say how grateful we are for the support my dad and our family got when he was in both the assisted living and the memory care areas. He really enjoyed living here.

The memory care unit at Brookdale Monument Valley in Colorado Springs is by far is the first facility I have found whose staff is so incredibly loving, kind, and patient to all clients/residents. I have dealt with Laura, Program Coordinator and Care Assistants Virginia and Shelby and I hope corporate realizes they each are worth their weight in gold and compensates the appropriately. I spoke to the director today and told him just how impressed I am with the entire facility. I am an independent contractor who specializes in short term elder companion care. I have worked 3 years and in 2 states with many visits to multiple rehab facilities, short & long term care/assisted living facilities and memory care facilities. Never before have I found a place I would be comfortable having my own family members stay should it become medically necessary. A family member of a resident here hired to me to assist with a loved one who tends to be more challenging than most due to their illness. They express the same appreciation of how the staff is always willing to patiently deal with difficult behavior issues and work with the family to find ways to redirect inappropriate behavior and work for positive behavior. The receptionists, dining staff, and facilities members are all kind and helpful and cheery as they go about their tasks. If you are looking for a beautiful facility with caring staff, this is a wonderful place to be!
