The Gardens is truly a gem! From the moment you walk in, the ambience is one of peace and calm in a lush and lovely setting. The rooms are generous in size and wheelchair-friendly, and many have beautiful views of the courtyard and small private patios for mini gardens. There is a restaurant-style dining room serving up award-winning meals--and ample desserts! The activity and living rooms have a cozy, family feel, and there is always something going on in the way of games, fun exercise classes, lectures, movie showings, field trips, and special events. The greatest asset, of course, is the patient and caring staff of the family-owned facility. Community Relations Director Jonathan is warm and welcoming. Health Services Director Laura is professional and generous with her time. Javier the Dining Services Director takes pride in his cuisine. The caregivers are loving and nurturing, and they keep lines of communication open. But perhaps the best indicator of the quality of The Gardens is how happy the residents are. They extol the virtues of the place with no prompting. (One woman said she'd tried five different facilities, and this was the best.) They're eager to welcome new residents into the family--by the third day, lunch-goers were calling my mom by name to sit at their table. As with most assisted living places, there is a sliding scale of services based upon need, and when a transition to a higher level of care is required, Safe Haven offers memory care with a higher caregiver-to-patient ratio. Safe Haven is safe and secure, with its own small garden and dining area. Caregivers encourage residents to spend most of their day in activities with others rather than remaining isolated in their rooms. I'm delighted I found this new home for my mom. She's still in the process of settling in--she's been there just under two weeks--but I can already sense this is a perfect place for her.

The facility is absolutely beautiful and kept up very nicely. Residents are able to safely walk the grounds, viewing numerous trees, plants, roses and birds. The pool has been a great activity this summer. My dad loves to swim and it's fun to join the other residents there for lots of fun and laughter. The caregivers and staff go above and beyond. They are warm and friendly, always making life at the Gables cheerful and homelike. The management listens to feedback to make the overall Gables experience ideal for everyone who is there. They strive to meet the needs of the individual and they do a GREAT job at theat. My dad resides there now, and someday I will be sure to follow in his footsteps.

My dad has lived at Park Balboa for a year and a half and it’s an excellent facility. Even through Covid and those precautions, they did a great job. Now that things have opened up a bit more, they have a lot of great activities and seem to be doing even more for the residents: like this surprise birthday celebration for my dad during lunch! I been here for about 5 months and I’m very happy with the staff specially the gorgeous Kimberly she is so sweet. I have a few friends and I really enjoy living at the Gardens. The activities are fun, and I love the painting class. If you need to be in a assisted living community I strongly recommend the Gardens at Park Balboa.

I AM 65 I WAS IN A TERRIBLE AUTO ACCIDENT, WHICH STOPPED MY 50 YEAR VIOLIN CAREER IN THE HOLLYWOOD MUSIC BUSINESS AND LANDED ME POST SURGERY AT THE GARDENS AT PARK BALBOA ASSISTED LIVING VAN NUYS. I COULD NOT WALK, SHOWER , OR BARELY FEED MYSELF. THANK YOU GOD!!! DUE TO THE WONDERFUL HELP AND LOVE THAT SURROUNDED ME , I AM NOW UP AND AROUND. WITH HELP FROM OUR LOVING AND PATIENT CAREGIVERS I AM BEGINING TO WALK AGAIN! I HAVE ALSO BEGUN TO PLAY MY VIOLIN. THE FOOD IS 5 STAR, AS A DIABETIC THE KITCHEN STAFF TAKES GREAT CARE IN CREATING DIABETIC MEALS THAT HAVE BROUGHT MY DIABETES UNDER CONTROL "GOD BLESS YOU" ALL WHO RUN OUR COVID FREE ENVIRONMENT...

The Gardens at Park Balboa is by far the best community I have ever been to. The Staff is so caring and very experienced, the building is always in good conditions and the food is so tasty. The community is the Perfect place for your loved one. Overall, the community is amazing, take a tour and meet the staff. They are fantastic!

My Mom lives at The Gardens at Park Balboa. They are always helpful when asked. My son her youngest grandchild graduated from High School. The event was going to be virtual for her. Technology is not always easy. The front office staff, the activities director and assistant, and care giver helped my mom be able to see her grandson walk across the stage to receive his diploma. That experience happened because of the helpful people at The Gardens. We are so appreciative.

Im a full time artist that lives at Gardens and spend most of everyday in my apartment panting, drawing and making home made greeting cards. I play volleyball in the afternoons with othere residents and sometimes go with the walking club in the morning around the block. I also enjoy looking at the social media television monitor by the main entrance once a week because on it, resident birthdays are listed and activities I may have missed and feared.

The Gardens At balboa park is such an amazing senior home. They have many activities for them and the people are very caring Im currently caring for a couple that stay there. Theres no other place they rather be! And the food is very enjoyable. Rick and Sheila have great times and good memories.

Nine months ago, after scouting eight facilities, I came across this place and met with the Marketing Director, Linda. She was so resourceful and caring that I had most my questions and concerns addressed in the first visit, including meeting some residents, seeing available suites and activities, and discussing prices. On the second visit Linda introduced us to the Nursing Director, Armando, and the Admin director, John, who were extremely helpful and kind. Also, we tasted the food in the well-maintained and bright dining area, served by the dedicated caring staff and chef with healthy and different menu options. My sister and I found this place to be on the top of her list, so she moved in right away. Despite many restrictions due to COVID-19, my sister continues to be in great spirits and has only good things to say about the staff and management. We could not have picked a better place for her.

My mom moved in two weeks ago. She keeps saying how nice the people are that work there. I agree! So relieved to have her in such a positive environment with people who really seem to care and are cheerful. Also - the food is quite good!

My mom has been here for 5-1/2 years and she is very happy here. She has lots of friends. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The place is clean and the food is really good. They have different activities throughout the day (bingo, card games, arts and crafts, walking club, stretch and flex class, etc.). When the weather gets a little warmer, they have outings to Balboa Park, Japanese Garden, drives down PCH, Huntington Library, Ronald Regan museum, etc. They also have a van that takes them shopping to different places every week (CVS, Target, etc.). I would highly recommend this place.

We have an elderly relative in GPB and it is truly the best facility in the city for assisted care. The staff really cares and it is a clean facility with a great nurse named Bobbie right on the premises. They are loving and treat her like family. The food is excellent and they have a separate small facility for dementia residents which is great because they get special care yet get the advantages of being in a place with non-dementia residents as well. Lots of activities and they keep their residents active and happy. I like that the place is well maintained and there is a special fall prevention system in place. It is not run down like so many places.
