From the moment I walked into Oakmont of Torrance, I felt it, this is a place where people truly care. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of life. It didn’t feel like a facility; it felt like a home. As I toured the community, it was clear that every detail is intentional, from the beautifully maintained spaces to the way team members interact so naturally and kindly with residents. The smiles were genuine, the conversations were unhurried, and there was a sense of dignity and respect in every interaction. What stood out most was the team and leadership. You can feel their passion and commitment the moment you speak with them. There is a deep sense of pride in the work they do, and it shows in how supported the residents feel and how connected the staff are to one another. Oakmont of Torrance is more than a place to live, it’s a community where residents are known, valued, and cared for, and where families can feel peace knowing their loved ones are in capable, compassionate hands. Touring this community left me truly moved and confident that this is somewhere special.

I have had 2 parents live at Oakmont, in the Assisted Living and the Memory care sections. The staff & leadership are outstanding and extremely compassionate. My husband and I visit multiple times a week & regularly talk & interact with the staff. The facility is beautiful, the maintenance staff is very responsive & it is extremely clean. They have musicians come in every week to entertain, they do great themed parties once a quarter or so & they always decorate for holidays with fresh flowers. My parents used to go on the bi-weekly field trips to museums, botanical gardens & music events which they really loved. The dining room is pretty, but the service can be slow - the food is generally good. They have a library, bar & cafe and a movie room that is fantastic. I looked at several places in the area, but Oakmont was a clear winner, especially being so close to doctors offices & Torrance Memorial Hospital. I highly recommend it. As is true with all places, senior living is as good as what you, as an adult child/caregiver, are willing to put into it. You need to be an ACTIVE participant in your loved one’s care to help a facility be 5 star. If you are NOT regularly speaking with the Director & staff & visiting your loved one, things will likely go wrong, so always stay engaged.

Oakmont has been a wonderful residence for my mother. I am continually impressed with the kind and caring staff, and the administration that responds to all of my requests and concerns. Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy is available on-site, and they will also provide wheelchair transportation for local doctor visits. My mom is receiving the best personal care, medical care, and nutrition of her elderly life. Most importantly, I have the peace of mind that comes from knowing she is safe and well-cared for. I explored a number of options and am very happy that a great place like Oakmont was available.

My mom has been in Oakmont the past couple years and she loves it. They have activities to keep her busy and the care that Oakmont provides for their patients is top notch. They even have their own shuttle that takes them on field trips so they can enjoy the beautiful areas and beaches around Oakmont. When my mom was recently in the hospital, the Oakmont medical director, Angelie, came to the hospital to visit and checkup on her. She also answered a ton of questions that I had about my mom which was very comforting. Prior to being discharged, Angelie coordinated with the hospital so Oakmont knew all of my mom’s new medication and physical therapy requirements. This made my life so much easier! Thank you so much Angelie!! You are truly a godsend!! Oakmont and the people that work there treat all the residents as their own family!

Oakmont of Torrance is a warm, welcoming community. The staff members are friendly and helpful from the front desk to the Executive Director and Memory Care Director. Everyone we meet is caring and knowledgeable. Memory Care Director, Richard, is very knowledgeable in the area of dementia and is very passionate about ensuring his staff and members are knowledgeable as well. He takes a personal interest in every resident and knows them all by name. We are so fortunate we were able to place our mother/MIL in such a wonderful facility and blessed with caring personnel. I actually feel like I’m walking into an oasis when I visit, as the entryway is grand but warm and welcoming at the same time. I specifically selected Oakmont of Torrance because I felt they were best equipped with the skill set to manage my father's care with dementia. It has become clear that there is little education about dementia and the type of care can make a world of difference. The staff at Oakmont is kind, gentle, know each community member's name, personality as well as their trigger points. The new Memory Care Director Richard Alvarenga is passionate, committed, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience around dementia. He is hands on sharing his knowledge with the staff and interacting with the memory care residents to build a connection. Richard spent time educating me how to better communicate with my father and to better understand his behavior which can be difficult for family members. I am so thankful to have found a facility that works with me and has such a positive perspective towards dementia and how to work with it not against it.

My mom was at Oakmont of Torrance for almost 3 years. It is a beautiful facility and the individual staff members are good. One of the pluses is that they have OT and PT on site. Melody, the Director has been there for all 3 years. The activities are geared for the high functioning people. Once you are lower functioning you sit in front of a TV most of the day. They are chronically understaffed and the turnover is insane. Even the memory Care Directors and Chef doesn't last. There have been 4 Executive Directors and 4 memory Care Directors. The food started out really good. I would visit and take my mother to Assisted living for lunch. Gradually the menu decreased and they were out of many items. This facility is going downhill. There is an issue in Corporate that causes almost all of the staff to be extremely short lived. Sometimes they are so short staffed that there is only 1 person to an entire wing. It is an expensive facility and not worth the money paid. I would look somewhere else. I moved my mother and am very happy.

A few months ago I would not have given a high rating. My dad is in memory care. I chose Oakmont because of the staff to resident ratio. Unfortunately that was not always the case. I had to complain about the lack of staffing and the care I was paying for but not receiving. Since Judith and Jorge took over, I couldn’t be happier. They have made sure that the residence are properly cared for. Residents are checked every two hours for incontinence and if they don’t like the meal selection they will get the resident a third option. My dad sleeps most of the day and is awake at night which made it hard for me to enjoy the time I have left with him. Jorge worked with hospice to change the timing of the medication that makes my dad drowsy. My last two visits have been the best in a long time. Whether I go in the morning or afternoon, my dad is awake and able to have a conversation. I couldn’t ask for more.

If I was going to go to any place to live, I would go to Oakmont of Torrance. The thing that makes this place so great is the Executive Director, Matt really has this place dialed in and you can feel the energy. I have read some of the past reviews and can tell that this place has definitely changed from those past experiences. As someone who is a world traveler, who has stayed at numerous five star hotels, this place resembles what I expect from Luxurious Living.

My Dad has been at Oakmont Torrance for over a year. Things were fine for him from the start, and he’s happy and comfortable with his room. Everyone was pleasant and helpful, and he settled in quickly. We could see there were some challenges with maintaining adequate staffing, but we felt that was a common situation in senior residences. We have definitely seen improvements these past few months. A new director was brought into the community, and we appreciate the increased communication with the families of residents. We feel they have been transparent, acknowledging where improvements are needed, and sharing plans and progress for positive change. We have already seen some of these changes, including increased staffing and some fun events, including for families of residents. My Dad has also seen improvements from the resident standpoint, from the activities to the dining service. My Dad especially appreciates the live music, daily exercise class, outings and brain games, as well as the special events (luau, family invited holiday meals/activities, etc). My Dad fell a few weeks ago and didn’t want to tell anyone. The staff quickly noticed he had cut his arm and asked him what had happened. The staff called us (his family) to let us know about the incident, which we really appreciated, and they continued to check his wound daily and change the dressing until it was well on its way to healing. We are very appreciative of the kind and friendly staff, as well as the Director’s continued pro-active efforts to bring positive change to Oakmont.

My sister has been a resident for almost 5 months. Although all employees have been nothing but kind and inviting, in the beginning I felt there was a lack of proper training of some staff. For this reason I felt a need to always be present to make sure my sister was not neglected. Being completely honest, I felt a need to seek a skilled nursing facility for my sister’s needs. I felt I had made an awful mistake by bringing her to Oakmont. However Oakmont is the type of facility that I enjoy coming to because it is so beautiful and first class, much better than a nursing home! Oakmont is what my sister deserves! As soon as I decided upon another facility, management at Oakmont changed!! This new management is receptive to families and was very easy to communicate with! Oakmont management is no longer a mystery to me. Now when I have a concern, I can go directly to the Director, who will institute changes if needed and if he feels I’m wrong, he has the ability to explain why changes can not be made in a way which I can comprehend. I no longer feel as if my only duty is to pay the monthly fees (which are pretty hefty) and keep my mouth closed ! I don’t feel that in addition to the large monthly fee I need to HIRE additional help to watch my sister! It appears that since management changed there are more qualified, compassionate, caring Caregivers for the residents on the Memory Care side. These residents really need special care. What’s good for one, might not work for the other. Some might not eat or go to bed at the same time as others or they might not enjoy the same activities. That’s why it’s not wise to try and fit these residents into a schedule established by management. Their needs should be respected as much as possible, that’s why proper staffing (and proper training) is a MUST! I love Oakmont, the new management and the care my sister receives by some of the experienced Caregivers. I finally feel like we are part of the Oakmont family! With this big, positive management change, we’ll be in the community as long as we can afford it

My mother is a resident at Oakmont. As an outsider (as I don’t live there), I must say that we have always been greeted in a very friendly manner by all employees. I know that the challenge of finding enough good employees has affected Oakmont as it has all businesses. Covid was especially a challenge because it very much limited residents getting together and also arranging outings for residents. It feels like our new director is making many needed changes and we applaud him for this.

I regularly visit a resident in Memory Care at Oakmont of Torrance. The building is beautiful! The decor is fabulous! I'm told that management is eager to provide all your needs. Staff members are nice and friendly (even though they appear to be overworked). It is probably a great place for those who need minimal attention. It was a mistake for Oakmont to offer memory care because it is severely understaffed to care for delicate seniors. Memory care residents are often ignored because the staff is stretched way too thin. If Oakmont hired qualified staff, a "hands on" nurse and reorganized the staff duties so that staff could properly attend to those who need SPECIAL CARE, it might be worth the extra money for the care package that the residents pay. Oakmont should keep in mind that the staff they hire are the ones who give the "service" that the residents expect, need and pay for. The building is fancy, and some say the food is good, but what about the care that the relatives and friends expect them to give to their loved ones?

This facility is horrible. They are short staffed on caregivers, med techs, and servers. They are underpaid as well for such a popular chain of facility. Chef [name removed] does not care about his residents well being he feeds them non organic and stale food he’s cheap when it comes to buying products for the kitchen he doesn’t care about the residents diet restrictions, there’s no servers during dinner time there’s no type of set schedule in the kitchen, the morning staff get to pick and choose there schedules while the PM shift always work by there selfs or have to ask caregivers for help , he’s always favoring this one server in the AM shift he always listens to her whatever she tells him to do he does it. When you go to Jerry to talk about something he starts laughing or smirking in your face he thinks it’s appropriate to do that. Most of the caregivers have no experience on what they’re doing they leave residents in there own pee for hours… they don’t check in on them , when residents get hurt they don’t report it. This place just has HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT DON’T PUT YOUR CLOSE ONES IN THIS FACILITY!!!

Oakmont looks wonderful, but looks are deceiving. They have a hard time keeping staff, from the top down. In one year, the director changed 5 times. In memory care, it was not uncommon to have 30 residents with 2 care staff. My mother gained nearly 30 pounds while there due to high carb food, and little exercise. The care givers came and went like a revolving door, so did my mothers clothing. I engaged an Ombudsman to help me advocate for my Mom, and in the end, she suggested we leave, which we did.

I visited this location and was given a tour for a family member. The staff is extremely friendly. The guide I toured with greeted all the residents by name and took time to talk to them. The facility is amazing. From the restraunt to the apartments. They even have a movie theater. The residents have a day full of activities and weekly outings.
