After my aunt was discharged from rehab, our family was in a very stressful and uncertain situation. We were desperately trying to find a place where she would not only receive excellent care but also feel safe, respected, and truly welcomed. From the moment we visited Sunrise Assisted Living of Thousand Oaks, we felt a sense of relief. The management team was incredibly compassionate, patient, and helpful. They took the time to answer every question, explain the process, and went above and beyond to make my aunt feel comfortable during such a difficult transition. They treated her like a person, not just another resident, and that meant so much to our family. The nursing staff is outstanding. They are kind, friendly, and genuinely interact with the residents with warmth and respect. It’s clear they truly care about the people who live there. Everyone has been professional, responsive, and easy to reach by email or text whenever we’ve had questions or concerns. One of the things we appreciate most is the communication. We always receive detailed updates about my aunt’s care and any changes in her needs, which gives our family tremendous peace of mind. Finding Sunrise Assisted Living of Thousand Oaks during such a difficult time was truly a blessing. Knowing my aunt is in caring and capable hands has lifted a huge weight off our shoulders. I wholeheartedly recommend Sunrise to anyone looking for a place where their loved one will be treated with compassion, dignity, and exceptional care.

During one of the most difficult seasons of our lives, they became so much more than a place where my parents lived they became a place where they were genuinely known, loved, and cared for with extraordinary compassion. They moved in together while both were on hospice, and after my mom passed, my dad moved to another apartment in the same community. The staff didn’t just continue caring for him physically; they surrounded him with friendship, encouragement, and love during one of the hardest times of his life. They also cared deeply for our family, offering comfort, understanding, and support that we’ll never forget. Sunrise didn’t simply meet our expectations, they exceeded them in every possible way. They created an environment where residents are truly known, valued, and loved. You can see it in every interaction, every conversation, and every act of kindness. The people who work here are incredibly selfless, and the difference they make in the lives of the residents and their families cannot be overstated. The staff is extremely caring and go above and beyond what I have needed. Both my parents moved to Sunrise of Westlake Village in November of 2024 . My dad is in Memory care and my mom is in Assisted living. I am so grateful for the excellent care my parents are receiving. The staff is so kind, patient and caring and I really feel my parents needs are being met. Along with great care there are so many wonderful activities and community engagements. The grounds are very beautiful and clean and it really is a special senior community. I had toured and looked at almost all of the senior memory care and assisted living communities in my area and Sunrise really stood out to me. Their care team and staff are really special and I am so thankful for them.

I am a home health nurse. I’m writing this review today to express my gratitude to the Sunrise staff. Working in home health, I step foot into almost all of these assisted living buildings in the area. My experience varies at each. However over the last few years, Sunrise has really gone above and beyond for our clients that live with them. I can’t stress how important it is to have good communication between healthcare providers and assisted living staff. Sunrise is always on top of things and they are always quick to respond to any request, situation, or anything else. This goes full circle into quality of care and quality of life. I cannot say enough about the excellent care my parents received while at Sunrist Wetlake Village. First of all, the Executive Director, Edith, is a skilled and excellent leader, and was always caring and listened to any concerns I ever had with interest and engagement, always looking to find the best solution. The facility is quite beautiful, sunny, and always kept very clean. It smells of freshly baked cookies and fresh air. There is always some fun activity going on and the place has a feeling of warmth and home. The staff and medical team were compassionate and responsive. We were always made aware immediately of any concerns regarding my parents. The kitchen and wait staffs were patient and friendly with the residents.The receptionists were quite friendly and helpful, and I always felt warmly greeted upon my arrival. My father sadly passed away recently and my mom needed to be relocated to a situation that provided more intense and one-on-one care. When my father passed, the staff was so kind and caring with our family and stood at respectful attention as my dad was taken from the facility after his passing. When I returned over the following week to gather his posessions and clean his apartment, I felt truly sad that my time as a caretaker of my parents was over at Sunrise. These people had become like family to me and I truly miss my visits to Sunrise. I cannot recommend Sunrise Westlake Village enough. It was a place of happiness and comfort to my parents as well as to me and my extended family.

I moved my 91 yr old father into Sunrise's Reminiscence (Memory) Care unit in January 2025 and couldn't be more pleased. My wife had done quite a bit of research of the best assisted/memory care facilities in our area and Sunrise made the top of her list. We checked other places out and many looked very nice. However, what stood out was how many of the caregivers had been at Sunrise for many years. The transition for my father was not easy and the staff was incredible at helping him adjust, feel welcomed and the care exceeded our expectations. Moving a parent into a commercial care facility is not an easy decision but often a necessary one. It's been 40 days since my dad moved in and the care he gets from Bina, Yo, Roxanna, Carol, Jon, Alma and others is truly incredible. My dad couldn't be in a better place and I'm grateful for the fantastic care he receives from these lovely people on a daily basis. I would definitely recommend touring Sunrise if you if that time has come for your family.

Initially Sunrise Westlake was great, but the director Zak left. Along with that game lousy food, the bus was broken or bus driver changed so no outings, want to dine with your loved one about $30 a head. I tasted the food it was horrible. My biggest complaint is that we transferred my Mom to another facility which was half the cost and 100x better after their $1,000 a month rent increase and my mom was no assistance needed. The problem started with the prorated refund that was due towards the end of November 2024 The, new accounting person and the entire team has no policies or procedures for when a resident moves. Mail wasn’t forwarded the parade. A check was never generated and even the ACH for the monthly rent wasn’t stopped so she was then again charged in December and wasn’t even living there trying to get the money back was a nightmare and still to this day two months later dealing with Heidi at the corporate office in Virginia. It’s a challenge always I’ll get back to you in a day or two and they never do they sent out a check erroneously for the wrong amount and I contacted them to let them know. This is the wrong amount it should be for less. I was told that I would get a call back in two days and a check would be issued at that time. Still a week later nothing now it’s to the point of no return phone calls so Sunrise Westlake is great at getting people in their sales team. Will promise you the moon but when you leave, good luck again, no policies or procedures in place and trying to get back your loved ones money is like pulling teeth. If money is not an issue to you then I guess it really doesn’t matter. Sunrise would be a great place. Many people there do not have family visit and pay the high price they pay for their guilt unlike other members who are very hands-on . Sunrise Westlake needs to take culpability and have policies and procedures in place for when someone vacates my loved one always paid her rent on time and even allowed them to use her apartment as a show model when people would come with an interest to become a resident there my mom did have many good friends there and they were lovely, but Sunrise overall really has disappointed!

I toured a number of assisted living facilities when I was looking for the right fit for my father earlier this year. I immediately got a wonderful feeling from Sunrise. Unlike all the others which were more closed off from the world, Sunrise is so bright and sunny with huge front windows and porches to welcome in the light and the outside world. It feels like a beautiful Victorian home, whereas some others feel more like a cold apartment. But more importantly of course was the warmth I felt from the staff. It was clear that they value the residents and treat them with respect and caring. That was my initial feeling but now that my dad has lived there for 6 months I can say I am even happier with the choice. I truly trust that my dad is cared for. The staff are incredibly diligent and so kind and warm with the residents. I feel very lucky to have found Sunrise for my dad.

As a resident of Sunrise Westlake I feel able to give this review based on my experience of living here for over 6 months. Residents are friendly & welcoming. The staff & caregivers are attentive to residents care & well-being.There are daily events & games as well socials & entertainment on a weekly basis. The buildings & grounds are lovely with walking paths & an abundance of flowers. Our Executive Director, Edith Kennedy, has a belief in "Residents care & happiness first". Towards this goal she has as 'Open Door' policy & is always interested in listening & helping residents with their concerns. My step dad passed away of covid and taking care of my mom properly was beyond my means. My step sister mentioned looking in Sunrise Assisted living as she had had experience with one of thier San Diego locations. I went to the Westlake Village facillity and i was impressed by the staff, the rooms, activity schedules and location. So mom's in a first floor flat and what I didn't check when checking her in was the food! Sunrise invites you stay for some meals but I assumed that the 3 meals a day would be excellent. Wrong! That was back in 2022 but in early 2024 Edith Kennedy, came in as the new Executive Director. My mom really likes the food nearly every day. Also the nurses at the facillity appear to be even more helpful at rehab excercises and subsequent feedback. These significant improvements are new and I want to congraulate Edith on these changes. She is awesome and very approachable. Last if you are considering this facillity I want to share some of my moms favorites with you.... The area is safe and suitible for walking around the compound or to restaurants, markets 1/4 mile away which my passes by on her walks. I set up a 2nd set of eyes on my moms health and Dr Iqbal visits her and other residents the 2nd Monday of every month. Celebrations are easy with Finneys, Zins, Cafe Bizou, Brents Deli, the Hyatt Regency and the Four Seasons nearby. And Costco is 1 mile away. This is a very, very good facillity and be sure to check out a meal or too if you are considering ... This place

It’s never an easy decision, but when the time came to move mom to a memory care facility, we chose Sunrise of Westlake Village. Best decision ever. The care they provided mom was extraordinary. The staff is extremely experienced and compassionate - the majority have been there for many years. As issues came up, they worked with us to provide immediate solutions to make sure mom remained safe and comfortable. They always answered my many questions, provided regular updates and took time to explain their approach in how they were caring for mom. One day I arrived to find mom with a caregiver singing to her with the voice of an angel. It brought tears to my eyes. This is truly a special place. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunrise of Westlake Village for your loved one. My only regret - not bringing her to Sunrise sooner.

From the minute we signed the contract, the entire administrative & care staff were incredibly kind, helpful and walked us through the difficult process of this life stage when it comes with resistance. Ethel went into Sunrise of Westlake after a bad fall while visiting her two sons and family in California. She was 103 at the time. The level of care and love she received while recovering was excellent. After a few weeks, it became apparent that she belonged in this loving community. The activities presented and friendships that she was establishing was just what the Dr ordered On Thursday Jan 13th at 105 years old she took her final breath. Finding the right place for our 95 year-old independent-living uncle was no mean task, especially because he did not want to leave his home of 28 years. From the time we began exploring assisted living, in September 2020, we were impressed by Sunrise of Westlake Village. Lisa Holt, Sales Director, and her staff were very open, honest, and caring in helping us understand the facility’s rooms, costs, and services. They were very patient with me as the family pleaded with my uncle to move to a place where he could receive the assistance that he needed. It was only when he became too ill to care for himself properly that he finally agreed to move, but that was too late. Unfortunately, he passed away just days before his planned move to Sunrise, but we have nothing but good things to say about the facility and its management team. In addition to the sales team, Kevin Williams, Assisted Living Coordinator, was truly impressive when, amidst the movers on move-in day, he dropped by the room himself to welcome us and go over details as to who were my uncle’s designated caregivers, laundry arrangements, and other routine but important matters. He left nothing to chance, and we appreciated that. Also, the ladies at the Concierge Desk were so polite whenever we had a question. Sunrise of Westlake Village is a first-class assisted living operation and I highly recommend it.

It’s been a month since the passing of my mother, and I’m reflecting on the two years she spent at Sunrise. Considering her lifestyle and the desire to perpetuate the independence she was accustomed to it was evident she would have a difficult transition moving into an assistant living facility. Through the patient and perseverant effort of the Sunrise care staff she slowly adapted to her new life. The sensitivity and willingness to accommodate her needs and desires by the staff was truly admirable. Being a frequent visitor to Sunrise, I was able to assess first-hand how she was treated and served. I concluded we had found a place which was quite suitable for her situation. The care takers exceeded the expected norm of how they performed their job as it related to my mother. They all made an extra effort to personally comprehend my mother’s idiosyncrasies, and interface with her accordingly, always ready to help and please. I was particularly impressed by the show of sympathy and sincere sorrow each of the aforementioned care takers demonstrated during the last three days of my mother’s life as she rested in her room. It was very moving.

My mother-in-law was in Memory Care here. They also offer assisted living, which is very similar, but on a separate floor. The place seems more like a nice hotel than an elder care center, with beautiful grounds, winding paths, and even bunnies! This was the second place she was in memory care, and there is no comparison. The staff here is so caring and professional. They keep in regular touch with the residents' families, and spend a tremendous amount of time on enrichment activities with each resident. The food is excellent, and was served in a restaurant-like environment before the pandemic. Now it is catered to each room They also hosted a private birthday lunch in one of their small dining rooms for our family and my mother-in-law. Since the pandemic they have done a marvelous job of keeping residents safe. Most of the staff and management have been here a long time, and it's easy to see why.

When you walk into Sunrise Westlake Village, you will see smiling faces on the residents and the staff. The resident are active, whether they are participating in the many wonderful activities that are planned, sitting and visiting with family and friends, or peacefully enjoying the beautiful surrounding. Families are always visiting, the staff is warm, welcoming, caring and attentive. The Community is clean and bright. I would definite recommend Sunrise Westlake Village.

Elder care is a miserable necessity. But I can confidently recommend Sunrise of Westlake Village under Director Royce, because of their current caring and clever staff. My mother with Alzheimer's has resided on the 3rd floor (Memory Care) at Sunrise for over a year. I cannot speak to the value of Sunrise's services since my father pays the bills. I am comfortable knowing my mom's physical and emotional needs are met with compassion, patience and humor here. The staff will meet with family, speak candidly - one on one and genuinely like caring for the elderly. It takes HUGE effort to visit often and to personally interact with this large staff (which is a must - anywhere). You get back what you put into this. Participating is an investment. Sunrise encourages family to join residents for meals, go on field trips, bring pets for visits and even sleep over! There are issues too at Sunrise. Staff changes happen and upset the systems. Policy for paperwork depends on who you ask. "No-Salt diets are close to impossible to adhere to anywhere. Residents clothes go missing often (my mom's new favorite fuscha sweater came from someone else's closet). I'm told my mom likes to curl up in bed at night with her roommate! Her missing eye glasses were found in a flower pot. Dementia is craziness. Sunrise's support group and staff have helped me to learn new ways to relate to and comfort my mom.
