We moved my mother here a month ago after a very quick downhill slide and I can not tell you the world of difference it has made for our family. They truly have an understanding of elderly care needs and are beyond compassionate to the families. They do a lot to find things that support residents and create family interactive opportunities through fun monthly and holiday events. I have been to one already and the effort that goes into it was amazing. We are very grateful as we know our mother is receiving the best care…as though she was their own family. Thank you everyone!

My mother has been at Oak Cottage of Santa Barbara for three years. I moved her from another Santa Barbara memory care facility when I realized she was being neglected by the staff at that location. I was so relieved when a space opened at Oak Cottage. One thing I learned in this process is that a facility that is dementia-only focussed is often much better than a place that offers all levels of care. Oak Cottage specializes on the care of a person with Dementia or Alzheimer's. I am a long distance caregiver. I live in New York and heavily rely on the staff at Oak Cottage to update me on any needs my mother may have. All staff is always available for conversations about her care or just a quick check-in whenever I feel I need to talk to someone. For the past three years I have been impressed again and again with the love and care my mother gets. She is always clean, her hair is brushed and done, with a flower and is hugged and cared for as any family member would, or maybe even better! They hold her hand and hug her every day! The facility is spotless and has a very homey environment. Her Alzheimer's makes her anxious and the caregivers know exactly how to soothe her and make her feel calm and safe, often without the use of medications. They know all her idiosyncrasies and when presented with a choice to move her to a hospice facility or keep her in place, I decided to keep her at Oak Cottage, knowing she is cared for, comfortable and in a familiar, loving and safe place. Oak Cottage has a unique and special program (Vital Life) designed for dementia patients and the coordinator is upbeat, enthusiastic and creative. My mom has flourished in this environment and has benefited from the daily music therapy and movement she has received. Another incredible feature at OC is they have an incredible events organizer, Felipe, who curates the most beautiful holiday and any-reason-to- celebrate events. The team takes pride in presentation and everything I have ever attended is well thought out and perfect for both families and residences.I wish I could attend them more often. Even the food is healthy, nutritious and delicious! I am grateful my mom is at Oak Cottage and it gives me peace of mind being so far away. I know I can even leave the country and feel secure that she's in good hands and well cared for. Everyone at Oak Cottage goes the extra mile! I feel so lucky to be a part of this wonderful community and I know my mom is lucky too!

Oak Cottage was the perfect match for my mom, who had advanced dementia. If you want staff who genuinely care about the residents and are waaaay more patient and caring than I could ever be, then this is the place. For the three years that my mom lived at Oak Cottage, my siblings and I were consistently impressed with how well the staff knew my mom, how kind they were to her, and the degree to which they went to make her happy. For instance, my mom loved hair pets, hugs, and word games, which the caretakers and other staff provided. While Oak Cottage is a bit pricey, the service is worth it.

I recently had the pleasure of witnessing the incredible care and vibrant atmosphere at the Oak Cottage where my husband works. In an effort to show my appreciation and enhance the residents' quality of life, I decided to bring over a special treat a homemade spread of delicious Vietnamese Spring Rolls with my special peanut butter sauce. Little did I know that this simple gesture would turn into an unforgettable experience for all involved. I definitely anticipate on going back and volunteering my time and share yet another wonderful experience at Oak Cottage. From the moment i entered the community, I was greeted with warmth and enthusiasm by the staff. Their genuine concern for the residents was evident, and it set the tone for what was to come. As the aroma of fresh flowers I noted several vases through the community filled the air, I could see the residents' eyes light up with curiosity and anticipation of what new activity the community had in store for them all to enjoy. A special thanks to Felipe Garcia Vibrant Life Director for helping coordinate my visit and making me feel welcome. What followed was a truly heartwarming scene. The staff, always attentive and compassionate, took the time to personally interact with each resident as they sampled my Vietnamese treat. The level of engagement and dedication they displayed was remarkable, making everyone feel included and valued. It was wonderful to see the residents and staff not only enjoy the flavors of my food but also engage in conversations, sharing stories and memories from their own lives. As a nurse that has seen and visited other communities I can say Oak Cottage is by far the best memory care community in the Santa Barbara county.

My sister and I were hesitant to move our father to a facility, and we tried to keep him at his home as long as possible. We eventually knew it was time, and looked at a variety of facilities. From the first time I went to Oak Cottage, I knew it was a huge step ahead of other facilities. My father ended up living at Oak Cottage for about a year before he passed, and it truly was a great experience for him and us. The staff does an amazing job with activities, food, and caring for all residents. I cannot express how great it was for him and how so many staff members went out of their way to make sure he was safe, cared for, and happy. Oak Cottage has been a true blessing. In late 2019, I had to make the difficult decision to place my husband, diagnosed with Alzheimers disease, in residential care. If you are in such a situation, I know its an incredibly vulnerable place to be. You are placing your trust in people that you only pray will not let you down. Oak Cottage will not let you or your loved one down. My husband is cared for and more than anything, he is happy and secure. As our moms memory deteriorated, and her needs increased, we (her 4 living children) made the decision to move her up to Oak Cottage in S.B., where two of us live. From the very start, we felt relief, as OC helped with the move and got her room ready in such a way to make a smooth transition. Our mom has now been at OC for almost 4 months, and she seems quite content. As a creative person in her heyday, our mom loves dance, music and art, and OC has all kinds of activities for her. They even have encouraged her love of teaching movement classes to the other residents. Moving a person with dementia during a pandemic is quite a task, yet OC has found ways to maintain interactions for our mom so she doesnt get isolated or more confused. At the end of the day, we children have to answer two questions: is our mom safe, and is she contented? We think the answer is Yes to both.

Oak Cottage was the perfect solution for our family as my fathers mental faculties began declining about two years ago. From the beginning, it was clear what services would be provided, and the staff was always very diligent in scheduling periodic phone updates, as well as off-schedule updates as needed. I always felt like I knew that was happening, even though I was several hundred miles away. During the early COVID outbreak and throughout, the staff went to great lengths to safeguard those in their care, and their communication was top notch during a time of crisis. It gave me great comfort to know my loved one was looked after by a caring and competent group of people. I cannot say enough about the character of everyone that works at Oak Cottage. This work is truly their calling. Sadly, my father passed a few weeks ago, and they were wonderful in guiding me with end-of-life arrangements. I highly recommend Oak Cottage for anyone looking for dignified and responsible care for their aging loved one.

The thought of sending my wife away due to her illness was devastating for me. How could I put her into the hands of strangers? As it turned out, she was not in the hands of strangers; she was in the hands of an extended family that cared for her as if theyd known her all of her life. The outstanding attention she has consistently received from attendants who not only care for her but also care about her over the past nine months allayed my fears and those of our daughters very quickly. Her disease progresses, of course, but the Oak Cottage staff keeps pace anticipating her needs. They may be overwhelmed by the pandemic for obvious reasons [arent we all] but they continue, time after time, to overcome any potential impediments that may arise.

Every Inch of Oak Cottage is designed to welcome, stimulate and support residents with Dementia and their families. The staff are trained and compassionate. I wish that when my mother was going through her downward spiral in dementia Oak Cottage was an option. The care provided by Oak Cottage is from relatively early stages of Dementia all the way through to the end stage. There will be no need to move your loved one to a new home when their dementia progresses. Programs are deigned at every cognitive level to stimulate and engage the residents so they can enjoy full lives in this community. I highly recommend Oak Cottage. Thank Heavens for you all!
