My Mom has been living at Portola Place for 7 months now. Mom is 83 years old and has Alzheimers. Believe me when I say a person with Alzheimers is very difficult to take care of. I fell in love with this home as soon as I walked in to the front door. When you walk in you feel so comfortable. The home has a wonderful, warm homey feel to it. I feel like I am a part of this family, whenever I go to visit. Armand and Nancy are always on top of everyone that resides at the home. They are great in letting you know, what is going on and what your family member might need. Mom's care givers are Al and Beth. They are both so loving to my Mom and Al calls her Grammie, which makes me feel good. Many times I just drop in, and everything is running beautifully. The food is colorful and tastes yummy. My husband and I would totally recommend Portola Place. When I get really old, I told my husband, this is where I want to live:) The home now has a sweet puppy named Lula Belle. Mom and many of the other people that live in the home, have perked up so much. Mom has been helping by holding the puppy at the vet and taking the puppy to the park. It has been a long time since I have seen her so happy. One more thing, because I could go on and on about this home. Armand, Nancy and Al send me pictures all the time of Moms fun moments. The people who live at Portola Place are totally treated respectfully.

A Place For Mom
I am very happy with this commumity .The staff are outstanding. The meals are wonderful and my mom is happy with the good variety. They do offer alot of nice activities for her to participate with the other residents. We know that this is an excellent community and highly recommend the great care and the value to other families for the care of a loved one.

The owner, Nancy, is a nurse and very knowledgeable. She knows when to get doctors involved and when it's time to take patients to the hospital. The food they serve is very good and they are mindful of dietary restrictions. Nancy is very involved in both her homes, this one and Chateau Sabelle in San Mateo. She monitors the staff closely and advises them on a regular basis.

My 98 year-old Dad went from a nursing home to Portola Place back in January 2015 to live out his life as he had just passed in October. If I could give Portola Place a 10- Star rating, I would! Nancy Castle runs a 6 resident house, and I call it a house because that's exactly the description of Portola Place; in fact, it is real home! The residence is immaculate! Her 3- person staff are marvelous. They care for the patients as if they are wonderful relatives. Everything is done like clockwork-eating, sleeping, showers, medication, etc. In the nine months that my father was there we really developed community with the staff and other residents and their families. Nancy Castle has created magic with Portola Place! If you are looking for a place for your loved one, Portola Place is the right place and the best place. Larry K of San Mateo

A Place For Mom
We're very pleased with how things have turned out at Portola Place! The staff here is friendly and professional, and they're very good at personalizing the care that each resident receives. The facility itself is clean and well kept, and they do a great job looking after the people who live here!
