I love my new apartment. Location, location, location!!!! The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The food is amazing. I highly recommend Avila Senior living to anyone who wants to walk to shops, restaurants, thrift stores, the cinema, the park or little cafes while enjoying the beautiful weather in SLO. There is also a cinema room with popcorn and games here to participate in for those who want to stay at home. And the beautiful Avila Beach and Morro Bay is just a short drive away.

Avila Senior living is a great option for those who are choosing to move to the slow area in a great area and competitive and reasonable pricing . Michael who’s is the sales director is very accommodating and professional . I would highly recommend Avila Senior Living
April 2026
Very nice. Micheal was great. Answered all my question. Great spot. For living. Thx
March 2026
This senior living place is absolutely perfect. So beautiful your eyes can't take it all in. I make new discoveries every day. The people who work here so wonderful. They are the most kind and caring to everyone who lives here. The dining room is like a luxury restaurant and the food is the best. Delicious is the word I want to use and such a great variety. The Chef is so much more than just preparing the food she always comes into the dining room and visits and the Server so efficient and fast and most of all so kind and caring. Lastly the cleaning and maintenance staff are the best. THANK YOU AVILA SENIOR LIVING
February 2026
Michael was great! He showed me around and he was easy to talk to. The place itself is lovely and soothing. I would not hesitate recommending it to family or friends.
May 2025
My experience of Avila Senior Living has been very positive. Andrea and all the staff are very helpful to the residents here. Its downtown location makes it a very good choice.
March 2025
I am giving a 5 so, people will see this. This facility is changing from an independent and assisted living facility to JUST an independent facility. All assisted living resident received a 60 day notice to vacate or sign a new contract for independent living. It has been horrible for everyone, residents and families as they scramble to decide what to do. The whole situation is a hot mess. The director can't even answer questions to those residents that are already independent. No answers about security after staff leaves for the day. The front door DOES NOT ALWAYS CLOSE leaving the building unsecured. It has been like this for the 3+ years my Mom has lived here. I don't blame Pacifica (Aura). The owner doesn't care (a man hiding behind an LLC). My advice is NOT to move here. Pacifica (Aura) is closing properties or changing the designation of properties. It's shady.
February 2025
It has been quite an up and down course for Avila Senior Living. Unfortunately, mostly down. The facility is in a great location with access to downtown SLO, but is owned by a a large corporation and seems to put profit ahead of resident and facility care. There are some fantastic and caring staff members, but the facility has a hard time maintaining staff. They have hired and let go of multiple staff in administration, maintenance, food service and caregiving. For example, there have been 5 executive directors in 2 1/2 years.4 Food Service Directors etc. The current Executive Director is working hard but things are very difficult and I am changing what was a 4 star review for a few months down to a 2° I worked very hard to improve the facility and while some changes were made as a result of Family Council Oversight, Pacifica, who owns Avila is concerned about the bottom line much more than the residents. The facility is in a beautiful location, but is sadly mismanaged by the corporate office.
November 2024
My dad moved to Avila Senior Living in October 2024 and likes it so much he told one of his doctors he likes it more and more every day. He has a very nice one bedroom apartment that is furnished with furniture etc from his home of 65 years. He is 94 and made the decision to move to assisted living before we had to present the idea to him. He really didn’t have a choice after falling and breaking his femur while living alone. However it being his decision made it easier for all involved. The executive director, the caregivers, the activities director, the chef and all other staff are very caring with positive attitudes! In addition to all of the above who wouldn’t want to live in downtown San Luis Obispo.
August 2024
Oscar, the activities director has been the best. I really appreciate the effort he puts into his routines and he has a great sense of humor. He is also the transportation driver and he is so patient and gets us there on time. He’s always consistent.
June 2024
Everyone there was extremely kind and helpful. A wonderful place.
May 2024
Excellent tour of a fine facility
January 2024
I would love to thank Oscar Buenrostro for helping my mom. She has been more involved with the facility because he helps her know what is happening . What a wonderful person and activity director! Looking forward to celebrating her 90 th with his help™
January 2024
I’m a Cal Poly student who took a tour here for a research project on senior living, and I was immediately impressed by the kindness of the employees, the light, warm, and home-y environment, the cleanliness, the variety of activities offered, and the overall atmosphere of care in what is clearly an intimate community of folks. Thank you to Allison for a wonderful and informative tour!
January 2024
We moved my mother into Avila Senior Living. Such a wonderful place. Everyone there, went well above and beyond what we expected. The atmosphere is nice, the food is really yummy, and so many activities there as well as excursions to shop, eat out and they also take people to their Dr. appointments too. I cannot say enough about Avila. They take pride in upkeep of the buildings. My Mom’s room was newly upgraded and was really nice. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend Avila Senior Living for anyone’s parent’s.
January 2024
It is a very friendly place, staff learns every person's name immediately. They made my mom feel super welcome during the transition. Oscar rocks as the Activity Director. He's upbeat and a super positive attitude for everyone. Lucky to have him, he's a great asset!!

Very nice place, caring staff
October 2021
Avila Senior Living has a marvelous location. With a few moments of walking are art galleries, museums, shops, cafes, coffee houses, the Apple Store and a charming creek that gently winds it way through San Luis Obispo. For more details, plan a visit. You will not be disappointed.
June 2021
This is a horrible place to put your parents!. I’ve come in twice and her diaper hasn’t been changed it was completely soiled. They raised the rent and didn’t even notify us! How unprofessional for a decent looking place to be like this in the kitchen they are always running out of something due to that fact a lot of resident are miserable and take it out on the servers. There is such a high turnover rate here. Doesn’t seem like it will last very long. Staff is amazing but management is not what it should be.

November 2020
Cheyenne was super friendly, I have a family member out that way and was able to take the virtual tour via facetime! She took her time and really told us what we needed to know.
November 2020
All around a great environment. Cheyenne was so friendly and accommodating! Cannot wait to see the renovation!
November 2020
Great people and service. thanks cheyenn ( i think that was her name?) for helping me out! You really took the stress off of my shoulders <3
November 2020
Great group of people that work here. Very welcoming atmosphere! Does the best for the residents and keeps them active and involved with their community.
November 2020
Residents have always and will continue to be first. Regardless of COVID-19. They are who we serve. We are continually looking for ways to enrich there lives. Avila Senior Living is a great place to be because of how we love our residents!
November 2020
Avila Senior Living is a hidden gem with its home-like atmosphere conveniently located in Downtown San Luis Obispo. There are some breathtaking views of SLO mountains from different areas of the community. Meals, housekeeping, and laundry service are all included!
November 2020
This place has really come around since changing ownership. The new company cares a lot about the residents and the staff. If I could change one thing it would be having updated interior.
November 2020
So happy this place changed ownership. The new company has made this place way better. It’s nice to have people that actually care.
November 2020
Cheyenne was AMAZING! She answered all my questions I had. I feel so much more comfortable sending my family member here.
September 2020
Ownership changed about a year ago. They embarked on a vigorous remodeling program which included the dining area. Then COVID-19 hit and numerous delays ensued. Not necessarily the fault of management, who has essentially been playing it by ear. Most of the original staff is no longer here, however the new hires, for the most part, display the necessary compassion and willingness to work. A challenging thing during these pandemic stricken times. Oscar Buenrostro, the Activities Director, has been exceptionally innovative in developing social activities commensurate with the restrictions of social distancing. Since several of the staff are Anglo, Oscar has started a basic conversational Spanish class, wherein the "students", all with Medicare Cards, can learn to converse in rudimentary Spanish. As with so many in the world, we look forward to.a return to normality, and are anxious to see how management can restore the amenities to which we have become accustomed.

The staff and administrators is extremely helpful and kind.

What a lovely blessing The Manse has been to our family! The staff, services, and care are exceptional, professional, kind, and beautiful. We are delighted with Mom's new life, and so is she. Thank you!
August 2018
My father resided at the Manse for just about a year. He hated the idea of ever going into such a place - but the Manse met and exceeded his expectations and mine. It was a first-rate operation in all respects - from the management to the everyday staff. The Manse staff treats residents with care and respect - I would recommend this place to seniors and their families.
July 2018
The building is beautiful, indeed, reminding you of those British TV programs where guests come to spend time with their hosts, and just like on those programs are catered to by staff. Mom spent the last two years of her life there, greeted daily with smiles and staff able and ready to provide what she needed: transportation, entertainment, encouragement to participate in a wide variety of activities, meals. I had peace of mind knowing that she was being administered the drugs she needed to stay healthy and that staff was observing her several times a day unobtrusively so they could intervene and let me know if there were any matters to be concerned about. The owner and his family were often present, knowing everyone's names and those of family members, making it truly feel like a welcoming environment. Especially outstanding were the quality and frequency of activities, fun and cultural, on site or in town, with transportation provided. So many residents, like my mother, had moved away from their homes to be closer to family, not an easy transition. But all members of the staff made an effort to be friendly and helpful and provide support and assistance whenever they could.
June 2018
I volunteer weekly at The Manse. I find the staff, especially Oscar, the Activities Director, very positive and concerned with all of the residents. The atmosphere is clean and welcoming. Keep up the dedication and hard work.
June 2018
I was on the City Council and voted in favor at the various hearings for the approval of the Manse on Marsh Assisted Living Facility. After it was constructed, I attended a number of functions at the Manse including dedication and other special occasions. I also have enjoyed a number of lunches at the Manse over many years. I have found the Manse to be very home like with a very comfortable feeling with many activities. I also find that a number of my friends have resided at the Manse. I've always been impressed with the Management at the Manse and the conditions of the facility. I would be quite comfortable should the time arise to spend some of my later days as a resident at the Manse.
June 2018
Appreciate the dedication staff have to quality care. Staff frequently reach out and always want to learn about best senior care practices.
June 2018
To tell the truth a 5 star rating is much to low for all the love and good work being done at The Manes. My mother is a happy tenant , every time I speak to her she tell me of all the extra TLC staff shower her with. Such a high level of care, love and kindness is very evident by what both my sister, brother in law , my wife and myself have experienced in every exchange and personal experience we have been part of. THANK YOU FOR TAKING SUCH GREAT CARE OF OUR MOTHER!!!! The Mam©s is best please give them a chance to be part of your decision for your family member. Then you’ll know first hand why they are the best! The Manes Rocks ! Diego Casarreal son of current happy well cared for mother!!!
May 2018
Having years of family experience in care facilities, over 2 generations, I am very appreciative of the excellent quality of life my dad enjoys at the Manse on Marsh. It is in large part assured by friendly, attentive, caring, thoughtful and responsive staff that demonstrate daily that the residents are their priority. The facility and amenities are great. The room is very spacious and modern, comfortable and very well-maintained. Meals are creative and flavorful, varied and thoughtfully flexible as required. The days are enhanced with a range of entertainment events to please a variety of tastes. You can tell this is so because the cheerful and friendly greetings of the residents radiates the feeling of being well-cared for. They have been good for their word for providing a great home for my Dad, which as enhanced his quality of life and mine.
May 2018
Where do I begin...searching for a place for a family member is extremely stressful. I visited many places in Paso Robles and SLO returning at different times of the day, announced and unannounced. I spent hours speaking to employees and residents, walking the property and around the neighborhoods. It seemed impossible to find everything I wanted at one location until I found the Manse. The Manse is a safe, clean, caring, professional yet beautiful place where my aunt can feel comfortable, safe and have a variety of activities and events to attend and participate in. I won't get into detail on the personal challenges we had with moving my aunt from LA to SLO, but I can tell you that a big part of my aunt being able to settle in to a beautiful room without all the stress was because of the owner Chris Skiff. He listened to the challenges and took the time and effort to help us work out our needs. We are very grateful to him. Now it has been many months that my aunt has lived at the Manse and I want to share that on two different occasions we were going to go out to dinner and there was a knock on her door; it was one of the staff members checking on her because she missed her normal dinner seating. It is really comforting to know that there are eyes looking out for her. I highly recommend The Manse on Marsh!
May 2018
One of my closest friends lives at the Manse. I drop in frequently and am always impressed by how clean and bright the building and rooms are, how pleasant and attentive the staff is, and how well-run it is. I am especially delighted at the many events provided for the residents, concerts, galas, group games, and other social gatherings. A lovely choice for home.
May 2018
As a personal trainer for seniors, the Manse is a great place to live. The staff is great and residents are absolutely lovely!!! It really feels like family. Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and caring. Whatever you need someone is there to sincerely help you.
May 2018
My 93 year old mother has been there for almost 6 years. She comments how she is never bored. Lots to do. Great staff. Good food. Very pleasant residents.
May 2018
Our brother and sister-in-law moved to the Manse several years ago. I've never seen another assisted living place like this! It's wonderful! It's a joy to visit! The rooms surround a central atrium/living room, which is spacious and bright. The staff is amazing, patient and very attentive. The Manse's creators/owners are always involved and trying to come up with new ideas... like an aviary in the garden. My parents never had such a great experience. I sincerely, whole-heartedly recommend a visit, if you are searching options.
May 2018
As a physician who has several patients at the Manse, I can without reservation say that the facility offers outstanding assisted living care. It is always clean, caring, and compassionate. The goal of providing a stimulating and safe residence for seniors starts from the top down- from Chris the owner, to the many caregivers that provide kindness to the residents. Great job!
May 2018
The Manse on Marsh has been a wonderful home for my mom. The staff is very helpful and thoughtful to her. Our family appreciates the care that they provide for her. We love Oscar and feel he earned the title of the best Activities Director and does a great job in helping with the residents.. My mom loves the food and feels safe so in turn we feel comfortable for her to be living there.
May 2018
What a wonderful place we’ve found for my parents. It was very difficult to uproot my parents from their home but they needed more care. The Manse staff helped to make it a much easier and smoother transition. All the staff worked so hard to help my parents acclimate to their new home. My mother was especially unhappy leaving her home of many years. Oscar, the Activities Director, made a special point to draw her out and got her socializing and joining their numerous activities. She now loves the Manse and has made some good friends. All the caregivers, Kathy the nurse, and the wellness staff have all taken such good care of my father who suffered a stroke. He has a difficult time communicating his needs, but the staff all show such patience, kindness, and respect when caring for him. Visiting family and friends often comment on observing the wonderful care they see being given to all the residents. The Manse provides a beautiful environment that is so clean and comfortable. It doesn’t feel like a facility, it feels more like a home. Everyone from the wonderful owners, to the management, and all the staff take a real interest in the residents and their families. We couldn’t feel better about our decision to have my parents living at the Manse. They are safe, well cared for, and most important, they are happy and thriving at the Manse.
May 2018
I cannot say enough about the wonderful people at the Manse on Marsh. My mom Jeanne recently passed and she lived there for the last seven years of her life. I spent a great deal of time there with her, and got to know everyone and truly, it felt like a second home and a family ~ as close as that! Just about every caregiver and server and employee there were above anything you could ask for. Warm and responsive and kind. And Oscar, the activities director, became a true friend and member of our family. He makes the lives of all the residents there more lighthearted and full of fun. Bringing people to entertain, cheering people on and going above and beyond anything we could have asked for in the way of love and service. When my mom was going through the last days with Hospice care, she wanted to be there at the Manse. It was home, truly and simply. And I will be forever grateful to the people there.
March 2018
Our parents moved into the Manse over six years ago, and it was a very good choice. The Manse provides quality assisted living with a friendly, caring, and professional staff. It is attractive and well maintained, and has many varied activities and inviting social events. Residents have every opportunity to develop rewarding friendships and to enjoy fulfilling lives at the Manse. Jim H. and Susan T.
February 2018
Having been a resident of the Manse was a wonderful and therapeutic experience. With their staff I began living there with little hope of ever being on my own. Here I am better than ever with everything they have done for me! The Manse itself is a beautiful environment with plants galore that is soothing and delightful at the same time. You enter with a warm smile to greet you or answer a questions or concern you may have. You walk toward
January 2018
When entering The Manse, a setting of warm elegance embraces you. This elegance begins with a left turn that directs you through a long hallway to an Atrium, that is two stories high with natural light beaming down through skylights. A large piano, worthy of a concert, sits waiting to be played. When I became a resident, I was entertained with Music Appreciation classes, Opera performances, Choir singers and recitals performed by Cal Poly Students, professional vocalist and a large assortment of volunteer’s enjoying the opportunity to perform in the Atrium, on the piano, for the Residents. When departing the Atrium, you will again walk the long hallway, make a left turn, walk a shorter hallway and enter the large dining room where Residents are enjoying eating and socializing at any time of the day. Large doors open to a patio where birds are housed in an Avery, chirping their welcomes to you. Living at The Manse can be likened to living in a Five Star Hotel where Community shares in an abundance of activities. I find the Gambling Tables where Black Jack, Bingo for money, and good old Draw Poker, not for money, are played seriously and robustly. Don’t plan on reading A book in the quiet of the Atrium during the gambling, it is not quiet, not at all. Oscar, the awarded Activities Director, who is one of kind, both loves what he does and is loved in return by the Residents. The last, but certainly the most important part of any Assisted Living Residence is the Staff. To have my name remembered by the servers and what I predictably eat for breakfast, then lovingly teased about the predictable-ness, is like family where you (hopefully) are both loved and teased as you begin your day. The Wellness Staff is constantly vigilant in pursuit of their caring for the Residents. There are haircuts for those who need them, shaving assistance and bathing for Residents who are not able to manage these tasks on their own. One of the caregivers enjoys putting make up on a willing female Resident, the results are most beautiful. I will soon be leaving The Manse, and I will miss the Manse family I have enjoyed while living here. The concern of the Staff about my health, the many shared dinners and laughter with my Manse friends and the elegant environment to live in. I will close in gratitude to the Schiff’s who are the owners, and creators of this exceptional living experience, for both myself, and all the others who are dependent on Assisted Living. Joanna A. Verhaar Manse Resident
January 2018
So impressed by The Manse on Marsh! The caring staff, the cleanliness, decor and live plants all express their attention to each and every detail of their resident's lives. There always seems to be engagement and activities. That's where I want to write my final chapters!
December 2017
Firstly the 2 stars is for the care of the residents because that seems to be quality... however, loved ones constantly complained about the staff turnover. Turnover may be expected in this industry but that shouldn't happen as often as it does here in my opinion, especially with management. We initially became concerned when the DOJ raided the building. Then when charges were actually filed against ownership we had to calm many family members. Also the prices are way too high for small square footage units. When we first looked at The Manse they were raising prices slightly year over year. However, about two years ago it seemed like management got greedy and raised prices 10+% and I saw the building dwindle ever since. Fortunately we found a much more affordable place where the turnover isn't so disruptive to the operation, here in town.
November 2017
I have visited the facility on many occasions and really fell in love with the staff and the accommodations. It might seem cliche but it really feels like a hotel. You can tell a lot of care and consideration was put into making this a comfortable place for an elderly guest. I'd recommend highly of you're looking for a top rated assisted care facility.
August 2017
Caregivers and Staff provide exceptional service and care to Residents. I've observed and seen over and over again how Residents are treated with respect, kindness, and compassion. The Leaders lead by example in caring for Residents, Caregivers, and Staff members. This community lives out their mission in action which is "To serve others so compassionately that it enriches their lives every day." I highly recommend this community!
August 2017
The leadership at The Manse is incredible. Specifically, Chris Skiff is one of the finest, most caring men I have ever met. I could not recommend this organization more!
July 2017
My experience with this fabulous place stems from my mom working there for many years, along with knowing the owner Chris Skiff. I've personally seen Chris exhibit incredible empathy and sensitivity for the season of life the residents find themselves in. It's not an overstatement to say that Chris truly loves those he's been called to serve! His contagious spirit and terrific sense of humor impacts everyone he comes into contact with in a positive way on a daily basis. Chris has been and continues to be an inspiration for me to live life in a self-less way as he always puts others first. Jim Coles

My wife Sheila and l are very pleased overall with the environment, class and attentiveness we receive here at The Manse.
