The VITAS hospice team has assisted with Mom's care for 8 months. I cannot thank and praise them enough. Before I met them I was in the ER with Mom trying to figure out her health challenges. She has dementia and cannot communicate what her symptoms are.. Mom was losing weight and her spirits were dimming. I was missing work and facing many unplanned emerging appointments, tests and fees. VITAS engaged empathetically and professionally. Helped me coordinate Mom's extra care. Helped me make sense of the tests and anticipated how to stabilize and comfort Mom. Ive grown fond of Mom's home health aid and our social worker. Thank you Irene and Jo! Thank you VITAS.

My mother in law fell 7x before coming to live with me and was in pretty bad shape after being in hospital and nursing homes and I refused to let her go to another. So hospital sent her home only under hospice care. I chose Vitas as it had same letters as my home town of Vista. (Not really a Scientific reason!) A Vitas rep was at my home within 2 hours, they brought: bed, commode, walker, wheelchair, toileting supplies and a slew of medical equipment. They mailed me prescriptions for what I might need for pain etc! The intake guy (sorry I don’t remember your name ; it was so long ago), to Sandy, our nurse, who came every week with a smile on her face and professional as can be, Helen, our home health aide, Fedor, who dropped off equipment and a special thank you to our lovely Canadian volunteer, Jackie, who was exquisitely dressed, who sat and visited with my MIL every Thursday and made a special visit when my mother in law was transitioning and was kind enough to sit with me when I needed to talk during all my anxiety. A real doctor came out during the three months (who does that anymore?!??). I also want to give a shout-out to Stephanie, the nurse who was on the evening my Mil started the dying process. She was calming and kind like she did it a thousand times before! I know there are a lot of people behind the scenes that make Vitas an exceptional company and they too, need to be recognized! Because it takes a whole village of professionals to get a 5 star rating from me. Thank you all so very much for what you do. You are soooooo appreciated. Although we only required Vitas for a short time, they were AMAZING at all the most important times. We were very impressed with their thoroughness and how well they communicated updates as to arrival times. Even after our loved one has passed, we appreciate them following up with us from the Chaplain to the social workers and have offered incredible resources to help us explain this to our small children by creating a memory bear and offering activity books. We cannot thank them enough for getting him home and set-up with the necessary supplies within hours of making the difficult decision to the caring nurse that arrived once he passed and comforted us with what to expect next. We would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone who is faced with this difficult decision and hope everyone feels the care and comfort during these difficult times that we were gifted with.

The care my mother received in our home from the VITAS Healthcare team was phenomenal and gracious. Initiation of the hospice process was easy and delivery of needed equipment and services was immediate (within hours). Each team member exhibited the same wonderful, compassionate traits and helped make Mom's transition to Heaven so much easier. Each team member was professional and gave excellent advice in their specific discipline. Even a prescription snafu was overcome with good resolution. We would like to especially thank the mid-level care givers, the nurses who stayed overnight to give us a break/rest, and Chaplain Jeff who visited often and sang beautifully to our Mom...she loved it and it lifted her spirits. Thank you so much VITAS from our entire family...you did a fantastic job!

Words can't express our gratitude for the VITAS Hospice care staff. Nurse Divina, Chaplain Jeff, and everyone else who cared for my bedridden Dad were warm, kind, compassionate, positive, and very responsive to his needs. They completely respected Dad's wishes (he had a DNR), while also working and communicating well with both our family and the exceptional 24/7 boarding care facility where Dad resided (Joy and Jay Homecare--a warm and wonderful separate entity in and of itself!). The combination of VITAS hospice and Joy and Jay Homecare helped keep Dad as comfortable and free of pain as possible throughout his year on hospice, and also gave our family great peace of mind that we were doing the best we could for him. Both entities tended to anticipate Dads needs before he articulated them. Upon Dad's passing, Chaplain Jeff waited patiently with us until the mortuary arrived; and his stories and insight provided us great comfort. Finally, VITAS volunteers created a very huggable bear out of one of Dad's favorite shirts which holds much sentimental value, and also helped us feel he was with us through the recent Thanksgiving holidays. We are truly grateful for the loving care Dad received.

Since the new team manager (Team 955) took over, everything went well. She handled small issues perfectly and resolved it really fast. The staffs she sent me in Canyon Guest Home are doing an excellent job. From HHAides,chaplain, LVN, RN and their new social worker..And, whether it’s their first visit or regular visit, they really know what they’re doing. All families’ request are granted and is done the next day.Their representative is awesome too. She helped us in so many ways dealing with conflicts. I would highly recommend VITAS. I did it with one of our clients here and the whole family was happy making a switch to Vitas.

If your loved one needs hospice care, please consider Vitas. My grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and I had no idea where to start. A staff member at Sharp Memorial recommended Vitas Healthcare and I am so glad they did. The nursing staff is extremely knowledgeable and professional. Irene Smith, RN, cared for my grandmother until the very end. She treated her as if she was family and showed true concern for her at every visit. She also always returned my phone calls in a timely manner and always had answers to my questions. Alicia, the home health care worker, provided caring and loving baths and showers for my grandmother and always made us smile and laugh. She always kept our spirits up! Christa and David, the chaplains provided spiritual support in a kind and respectful manner. All of the oncall nursing staff including Anthony, were always ready to visit and check on my grandmother at any time of day or night. Deciding on hospice care is never easy, but if you choose Vitas, know you have made the right choice.

Our family feels Vitas is not a good choice for your elder loved ones care. As soon as we entrusted them with our 92 y.o. father's care they gave orders to stop trying to give him water or food and two days later said for us to prepare for his death within hours. No doctors had visited. After the family flew in and started caring for him he got better and one week later he is still asking for food, talking briefly with visitors, listening to his favorite music, and still very much alive. One day he slept all day and the visiting Vita nurse again said he would be gone in 24-48 hours. That was 4 days ago. They gave us 4 emergency phone numbers. 3 of those get busy signals and one says to leave a message and they will call back within 24 hours. We are hoping to be able to terminate their services today and to get our father's regular doctor to see him so we know what we are really dealing with. We don't trust Vitas to decide his condition for us any longer. There was one good Vitas caregiver who helped our dad when we told him our wishes were to keep giving him water and food until he actually refused food and water, or can't take it, which is not the case. My dad was very hungry and ate a lot of food for him, asking him about himself between bites. His name was Mark and he gave us a big hug when he left. That is the type of people we expected to see during hospice visits. The first Vitas nurses refused to give him water or food and gave us attitude for feeding and giving him water.
