My dad had spent most of the last two years in a nursing facility in Los Angeles. That facility had been a good solution as long as my sister was living nearby, but her relocation back to the Bay Area necessitated my dad's return. We have been very pleased with what we have experienced at Sunol Creek; Dad has already regained some of his cognitive health and is noticeably happier.

Putting my wife in memory care was a difficult and sad time . Sunol Creek made it smooth and less gut wrenching- it took my wife awhile to settle in but thanks to the wonderful staff of professionals who keep us informed and treat the residents with true individual care . My father has been a resident of Sunol Creek Memory Care for a little over a month now, and it is abundantly clear that we made the right choice in the placement. He is thriving! Its more than a notion to find a home for an aging parent, let alone one living with dementia. Try doing it in the midst of a global pandemic and a statewide shelter-in-place order that continues to limit movements of the elderly and contact with their families! From our first conversation with Susan in marketing to our virtual tour to the day we dropped Dad off, we were excited. The place shows really well, but so did the last place Dad lived. Heres the thing: Sunol Creek is the REAL DEAL. They say they want to love on the residents and give them a sense of purpose, and they actually do. When the team came out to greet us on move-in day, they swept Dad up and took him in. He was so thrilled he didnt even say goodbye. When we called him later, he said he was having fun. In the last month, my father has looked and sounded better, has had more energy, and has laughed more than in the last two years! They are definitely doing something right at Sunol Creek. Susan guided us through the move-in handily—she even drove to my place to pick up paperwork!—and then arranged for a day of pampering for my father not long after his move. Amalia is a bonafide ray of sunshine every single time I call, no matter the issue or the hour. Divine and Heidi seem to know everything that is going on with my father at a moments notice, make the best recommendations, and offer truly meaningful advice about dementia—they really know what they are talking about. Tina, Rafael (who gives great haircuts!), and Arden are also great, keeping my father engaged and active. I will stop naming people here, because I am sure to miss someone and havent met everyone yet (see pandemic). Suffice to say: Sunol Creek specializes in memory care and they are truly experts with an abundance of compassion, warmth, and good humor. For the first time in the two years that weve been a family contending with dementia, I sleep easy and that is thanks to these wonderful people. A+ all around.

I met with Susan Hughes at Sunol Creek Memory Care after an extensive search with phone calls and visits to other care facilities. I was exhausted, but Sunol Creek was different. After sitting down to discuss the needs of my friend, Susan took me on a tour. The first place was to the community room where she introduced me to the residents. I was so impressed! This was stimulating for those in their care and it let me see the energy of the place. This place was alive. I was sold! My friend had changed in the last month and Susan assured me that they could handle and meet his needs. Another friend and I moved him in and everyone was their to make this transition go smoothly. We have both visited since and we said a lot of places are nice but Sunol Creek is professional. I can now sleep at night! Thank you Susan and staff

My mom is one of the old timers -she has been there more than five years. We looked at lots of places but as soon as we went into Sunol we were impressed! From the resort-type lobby to the inviting living room. My mom is so happy there, she is often sitting on one of the couches holding a doll or playing a game when I come to visit. The staff all tell me how much they love her, I am pretty sure they love all the residents-they are a very warm sweet and informed group! I know we made a perfect choice for her.

My dad has been at SCMC for almost one year. This is his third care facility. His first, almost 4 years ago, was a wonderful assisted living facility, but we needed to move him when it was obvious he needed memory care. I wanted him to be near me so I could visit often so we first moved him into a brand-new and very expensive facility. After several months I didnt feel he was being treated well and the staff was not adequately trained in dealing with dementia and related behaviors. So, we decided to move him to SCMC. I am so happy we decided to move him! The staff at SCMC understand dementia. For example, my dad was a salesman and loved working. The staff will continually invite him to attend staff meetings and ask him about his forecasting and prospect meetings. They also get into his world when he hires them to be his assistant, and they are very patient when he gets angry and fires them. As often happens with dementia and Alzheimers patients, they will refuse to shower or get out of bed, etc. The staff patiently talks with my dad and will not force him to complete a task, but will try again at another time when his mood is more cooperative. This is important to me because I dont want my father to escalate his frustration if it is not necessary. The staff is not just trying to check a task off their list, but instead want what is best for the resident, not most convenient for them. Also, touch is very important for those suffering from dementia. I will always see staff hugging residents (only those that are comfortable with it), crouching down to be eye-level with them and touching their hand and interacting with them. And where others may think residents are not able, SCMC sees ability and value in all their residents and creates projects and outings for all levels of abilities. Scenic drives, lunches downtown, local museum visits, bird-house building and much more. Lastly, communication has been great. I am always kept up to date on what is happening medically and mentally with my dad. If he falls, I get an immediate call. If he has a rash, someone notifies me and will call the doctor for me (that does house-calls and is also amazing!) I know he is great hands both medically and emotionally. Above all, the staff loves what they do and they love the residents. Care-giving is a calling that only a handful of people have the heart and strength to do. It is easy to love those that are lovable, but when someone has dementia they do not always act is ways that are lovable. These people love, respect and honor even when it is hard. That is what makes a good care-giver and that is what I want for my dad.

My dad has been living at Sunol Creek for nearly two years. My dad has Lewy Body dementia and the staff was quick to recognize that his needs were different from those with Alzheimers. Not only do they tend to his physical needs, but they differentiate for his personality as well. I have a very collaborative relationship with the staff. We talk regularly and collaborate on everything from health care to dads favorite food (ice cream)! I know the staff by name, and they know mine. There is noticeably less staff turnover than in dads previous care home. The staff is tremendous and I am grateful every day that they give my dad the best possible quality of life. Because of their support and care, I am able to just be a daughter when dad and I spend time together.

When my daughter and I could no longer care for my aging husband, we were reluctant to move him from our home. Every place that we visited in the area and abroad just didnt seem like it would be a good fit. That is until we found Sunol Creek! The entire staff is so caring and really make all of us feel like family. The community is beautiful, clean and provides quality food and care. We couldnt be more pleased. We have a family member at Sunol Creek Memory Care. The facility is very nice and well maintained. All of the staff have been very helpful with as as have navigated they system there. Sunol Creek has been the best facility she and our family have experienced with her assisted living without debate. She is now happy, content and enjoying herself. The staff is professional, helpful and caring. Any time my sister and I have a question or problem, everyone goes above and beyond to try and help. The premises are clean, the food is great and there are activities that the residents can participate in if they wish to. I highly recommend Sunol Creek for anyone who is looking for a safe and nurturing environment for their loved ones!

My father was a resident of Sunol Creek Memory care for three and a half years. My father had dementia as a result of a traumatic brain injury some years earlier. Despite his failing health near the end, he thrived at Sunol Creek and was loved and cared for by everyone. Everyone we ever interacted with from the care givers, the staff, RNs, management and the director, all cared very much for the residents, showed everyone respect and treated them with dignity. As a family member, it meant so much to have an environment, including not only the staff, but the facility as well, where we felt at ease that our loved was was being cared for compassionately. For anyone reading this while researching facilities for their loved one with Alzheimers or some other form of Dementia, I would highly recommend this facility. Im happy to be a reference for anyone who is considering placing their loved on at Sunol Creek. I would also say you will need to be realistic and understand that this is a group facility and there isnt a one to one 24x7 care giver. Sunol Creek will accommodate outside care givers, but usually at a great cost to the resident and families. One thing that was clear to me from the beginning is that each and every resident is different. Each condition is different and wide ranging, including their health and individual needs. And that is one of the great things I observed by staff and management, that they treated their residents according to their needs and conditions. I have to mention this as an example of the caring and compassion they have at Sunol Creek. My father passed away peacefully under Hospice care in June 2018 in his room at Sunol Creek. That day before we came to say our last good byes, two of the staff members dressed my father in his favorite shirt, jeans, tennis shoes and his favorite Giants cap. I will never forget what you did for our father. Thank you!

I regularly visit Sunol Creek. From the warm welcoming greeting you get from the staff at the front desk to the warm hearted caregivers that work there I find it hard not to feel welcomed. The care staff is always engaging the residents in activities, anywhere from physical activity to brain stimulating activity. Overall the best memory care establishment I ever been in and the environment the staff provides for their residents is the very best you could get. I look forward to my visits every week and would highly recommend them to anyone.
