On behalf of Moldaw Resident Marilyn - My husband and I decided to move from our large home to a senior facility. We knew we wanted to stay close to the area we lived in for forty years and to also be near two of our children. We looked at various places and decided on Moldaw Residences for many reasons. From the moment we met Stacy Guthlmann, the sales agent, we felt we were in the right place. She lovingly informed us of all Moldaw had to offer. Her approach was, and still is,kind and understanding. We were welcomed with warmth and caring. The residents are truly a family caring and looking out for one another. The staff from the dining room to the maintenance men are always there to be of help.Being on the JCC Campus is truly a plus, with a first class gym and many cultural activities. Moldaw is truly home to us. We have made many new friends and we enjoy all the daily activities. Marilyn Schilling

I moved to Moldaw in spring of this year and could not be happier. The facilities are the best in the area, staff are extremely friendly, everything is super clean and the food is both varied and tasty. One of the nicest things at Moldaw is the social cohesion and warm atmosphere. Theres a kindergarten and primary school on the premises as well as many cultural events in the JCC campus next door. Residents are always inviting each other to dinner, its very easy to make friends here. In addition, there are plenty of events such as birthdays and holiday celebrations. Sport is big part of life here, too. We have a superb gym and pool onsite, with plenty of individual and group classes. Stacy Guthmann, the director of sales and marketing, could not have been more helpful. She is very attuned to individual preferences and was incredibly diligent - she even answered emails during her holidays.

Sue Hartenbaum: Why I chose Moldaw 3.16.26 If you are evaluating any Life Care Community in Silicon Valley, I am sure you have realized that there are many good local options. This is not an easy decision. However, Moldaw offers a few major differences that you may want to consider when comparing them. I will mention only 2 as I think they are exceptional. 1) Moldaw is the only truly intergenerational community. In actuality, it is one of just a handful in the country. Because it is combined with a entire campus, community center, and sports facility, on those days that you are discouraged with life issues and aging of your family, friends, or self, it provides a balance. It is uplifting to see all the preschoolers, summer day campers, young adults and families participating in their activities almost on your doorstep. Also, If you go to the gym and work out, or to the programs in the square, Cultural Hall, etc. there are persons of every age, religion and nationality enjoying the full range of activities here. Our apartments are not separated, but wrap around the community. It is the closest thing to a neighborhood your will find in such a place. 2) Every Independent Living Unit is also licensed by the state as Assistive Living. Why is that relevant? Most communities have separate Assisted Living and Memory Care units, which are often not full apartments. For most residents who need some additional support that would be provided in Assisted Living services or Memory Support, they would require the resident to move. Moving itself is stressful, and unlike Moldaw, those units often do not allow the resident to continue to be involved in all the activities and eat with all residents in the main dining areas. Moldaw’s integration allows the resident to keep up with their activities (if possible) and with their friends. We do have both separate Assisted Living and Memory Care units, but most residents choose to remain in their own apartment as long as possible. Those residents who do move into Moldaw’s Assisted Living and Memory Support are generally in need of far more support than the majority at Moldaw. That is when they move. Importantly, Moldaw has a well-earned reputation for being a family environment. It is large enough to have almost everything you might want in a community, but also small enough for each resident to know everyone. The staff is exceptionally kind, thoughtful and helpful as well. By moving here, I have taken the burden off my children’s need to care for me. As soon as my son saw how he could enjoy the time with me instead of constantly having to take care of my needs, he said Mom, you are a genius to have moved here. Considering that at age 15 he thought that I knew nothing, I guess I he thinks that I got smarter and smarter over the additional 70+ years.

I’ve been living at Moldaw for over 7 years and have found it to be a welcoming, supportive, and friendly community. There are more activities than I can take advantage of. It’s a great place to live! And I love being on the campus of the JCC, which offers even more activities.

Love this place for its beautiful buildings, diversity and friendliness. The residents and staff couldn’t be nicer. It’s a pleasure to eat in our brand new beautiful dining room and to walk the hallways that have recently been transformed. The activities are plentiful and FUN.

I moved to Moldaw 13 years ago after my husband passed away because I didn’t want to live alone. As a World War II survivor who immigrated to the U.S. in 1954, community is very important to me. At Moldaw, I enjoy daily programs, meeting new people, and the freedom of not having to cook or clean. The transportation support and overall sense of care make life here comfortable and fulfilling. One of the main reasons I moved to Moldaw was because of the proximity to the JCC and all it’s programs.

What a fabulous place to live! We have been here for nearly three years and couldn't be happier. It is a friendly place above all, both residents and staff, with a deep culture of caring and respecting each other. Moldaw feels like you're living in a small town where everyone greets you and everyone knows your name. It is multi-generational and multi-cultural, open to all, and you don't feel like you're in an "old folks" home. There is so much to do right here on campus with a fabulous cultural hall, gym, swimming pools, cafe, gift shop, lectures, etc. The association with the JCC is a unique and tremendous benefit. Oh, and by the way, the food is terrific and our apartment couldn't be better. We love it. Ann and Alan

I have taught a few yoga classes in their memory care section, and I have to say the level of care from every single person on the staff in this home is really heart warming. They meet the residence where they are, treat them with dignity and respect, really it's wonderful. Also the entire staff seems to know and have a good memory about every single resident! Once I had a resident join my class and participate, it made my day because she's normally not into my classes......I told the concierge downstairs and she knew who I was talking about, knew her caregiver, and told me a story about her and her caregiver that she thought was really special. Maybe if they read this review I'll get a discount for my in laws ^_^

Written by: Gary Blackburn Moldaw, a Great Place to Spend your Final Chapter in Life By Gary Blackburn Moldaw and the JCC are primarily Jewish but by first-hand experience we know that all are welcome. My wife is Jewish while I was raised as a Christion. After 63 years we continue to have a good marriage together. The majority of residents are Jewish happily mixing with those of other faiths and ethnicities and all are either friendly or friends. Culturally and socially we probably could not have found a better place to live out our senior lives. There are more than just the people here to make us content. Moldaw has a lending library, an exercise room with equipment, a ceramics studio and more. Lectures, a variety of exercise classes and off-campus trips for errands, shopping and many bus excursion as suggested by one of our resident committees. If that leaves you time for something else, Moldaw residents automatically have full membership to the JCC. The JCC also has more to offer than you can do. All of the above are included with your residency. As mostly but not exclusively active seniors we have a variety of resident committees that work cooperatively with our management and each other. Safety is important to me. Periodically the news provides reports of many or all residents being displaced by a fire that started in one apartment unit that subsequently destroys much or all of the building. That won’t happen here. All rooms have heat-activated fire-suppression sprinklers. Migration of fire is further impeded as each apartment and all of the community rooms have strong fire-suppression doors. There are also automatic fire doors that close if a fire alarm is set in that zone or area. I asked a Palo Alto city employee what he thought of our earthquake resiliency. As I have learned, all the buildings from bottom to top are of extra thick concrete construction. There is no visible concrete on the interior or exterior decor. He said that we probably have the strongest, most earthquake resistant buildings in Palo Alto. That is important. We are fairly close to the San Francisco Bay. A few miles to the west the potentially destructive San Andreas earthquake fault runs from Mexico to Canada. Across the bay to the east there is the Hayward and ancillary faults that are potentially even more dangerous but we are safe. Moldaw staff will fasten furniture more than waist high to walls. If we ever have an earthquake all the buildings, although separate structures, are contiguous with barely visible seismic joints so that buildings can move independently without damage. People seeking a suitable place for retirement have the good fortune of multiple retirement communities here in the Silicon Valley and elsewhere in California. After surveying others, chances are you will return here, not just for good food from the ever-changing menu in our newly rebuilt dining room that should reopen well before the end of 2025 but to become acquainted with a highly diverse community of college educated residents plus more free activities to choose from than one can select. After 13 years at Moldow, are we glad to have made this our home? Of course!

The staff at Moldaw, led by sales and marketing director Stacy have been outstanding in working with me and my mom as we plan her move from the east coast to Moldaw. They have been very caring, open and accessible as we work through this next step. Also I'd like to thank Sarah, the logistics coordinator, and Danielle, who also have been super helpful and understanding.

Since moving into Moldaw some 3 1/2 months ago, we have been most pleased with our decision to do so. The facility is top notch. the staff is friendly and helpful and the food exceeds our expectations. Stacy Guthmann, Director of Sales and Marketing, very ably assisted us through the application process and welcomed us into the community. We researched several other facilities before deciding on Moldaw and couldn't be more pleased with our decision.

I love this place! My parents have been happy here for 7 years. The staff is like family, the millions of offered activities (including JCC classes) are stimulating...what more could I wish for, than to see my parents happy, and for me to feel comfortable and confident in them living the good life that they deserve.

What I love about Moldaw is that I can join so many interesting committees to enrich my life and build many friendships during these classes. In one such activity, I learned how to create memories on a collage through computer technology.

What do I want? To be alone? Sometimes. To have access to friends and activities? Sometimes. Get both or either here at Moldaw. Close the apartment door--soundproof and warm. Open the door to more activities: !ectures, exercise, song, short story reading group. Wait--there's more! What a relief that I chose to live here at Moldaw and am not in my old house, and lonely ,and certainly without access to help should I need it. Don't wait too long! You'll want to be able to enjoy all this community has to offer.

I have lived at Moldaw for almost 5 years and love it. I don't know how we would have survived the Covid epidemic alone in our large home. We had wonderful meals delivered everyday, Zoom meetings, Zoom exercises ; and virtual trips to foreign countries. Pre-Covid and now we have many activities in person, including trips, exercise classes, parties and lectures. The JCC on the same campus has a world-class gym plus a walking-running track which kept us sane during Covid. The JCC has numerous programs including concerts and lectures. My husband goes biking with his "buddies" and I walk a couple of miles a day. It is a short walk over the new bridge to Shoreline Park. We looked at all the local retirement homes. and felt this was the best.
