We were very blessed to find Monarch Assisted Living. Our family member has lived there for over five years. Our needs are continually met with a superior staff. He has had some challenging moments and the entire staff, comes to his rescue. Our family is always kept informed of any concerns. The staff is well trained and cares for all residents. We are sent monthly notices of activities and services at Monarch. It's very exciting that Monarch now has a concierge for special and fun outings. Our family member thoroughly enjoys these special occasions. The doctor, who oversees Monarch, is from UCSD, Geriatrics, and is on call 24/7. We, as a family, are so thankful for the care at Monarch.

If you are looking for a memory care that is Ike a loving home for your family member with dementia, you have found it. The caregivers at Monarch Cottages are among the kindest I have met. My father lived at other assisted living facilities and was always unhappy. At Monarch, he actually liked the caregivers! He found other things gs to complain about. Haha! Such is dementia. But he felt cared for and at home at Monarch. Highly recommended.

Deciding to entrust your family member to strangers is a big leap of faith, regardless of situation or cost. I visit Monarch regularly and see how our mom is treated. I've seen my mom open up and re-engage after she moved to Monarch. And I've had the pleasure to get to know the entire friendly and expert staff. Knowing our mom's whole self (physical, emotional and cognitive) is being cared for is truly heartening. We are so glad that when we had to make the decision, we chose Monarch for our mom's care.

We had to place our step mom into Monarch Cottages because of dementia and memory issues. It was a very difficult decision, but absolutely the best thing that we could have done for her. She is now safe, happy, well taken care of, AND she takes all of her needed medication (without the significant and tiring resistance that we used to experience). It is so nice to not worry every day & night if she is okay. From the application, to the move in process, and thru the really short acclimation, the staff were all so knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Visiting is super easy and convenient and you don't get that "corporate run hospital" lockdown feeling. It is a family owned business. We trust Monarch and its skilled staff implicitly. Monarch is highly recommended for your peace of mind, and most importantly your loved one's safety and quality of life. It's a place our step mom now calls "home".

My husband has been the Trustee for a current resident of Monarch Cottage for many years. She lived at home with round-the-clock care, but we became concerned that she was too isolated, and that a single caregiver would have difficulty getting her to safety in case of an emergency or natural disaster. We therefore decided to move her into a memory care facility, visited several, and knew as soon as we went there that Monarch Cottage was the place. We did use the moving service that Monarch Cottage recommended, and that made the move incredibly smooth. The staff had her up and in a wheelchair within a day, and although it was a difficult transition, they worked through it with her, and she now spends most of her days up and in the living room with the other residents. It has been wonderful to see pictures of her visiting the flower fields and going out around La Jolla with the aides. She considers the aides and the other residents to be her friends, and tells me every time I visit that she is so thankful that we made her move (she did not want to leave home) and that she is living at Monarch Cottage. We trust them to monitor her health, let us know if something is up, and make sure she gets care when she needs it.

Our Mom has been at Monarch LJ since Sept 2019, before COVID. Once COVID started in 2020, things got difficult for everyone. To say the team at Monarch did a great job would be an understatement. How does one prepare or have experience for such an event at a memory care facility ? Didn't exist. Monarch was able to rise to the challenge where they put together and deployed a plan that saved lives. During such very scary and difficult times, they were professional, caring and transparent with information. We were able to get through it together. We are so grateful and feel that Monarch and it's team are our extended family.

Experiencing dementia with a loved one is very challenging and often sad. Placing our mom at Monarch Cottage has helped tremendously. We moved our mom to Monarch Cottage after our father died – she had to leave the 24/7 care she was receiving in her home of 50 years. We expected the move to be a difficult transition for her, particularly with the challenges of Covid. It wasn’t – she loved Monarch from her first visit there. This is due to Monarch’s whole environment, especially the love and care provided by Monarch’s phenomenal team, from the executive director to the care professionals to the chefs and the activities staff. Monarch’s strengths-based approach to care makes it a true stand-out. They provide an environment that is at once social, stimulating, and loving. Our mom is very social and absolutely loves being part of Monarch’s community with all of its activities. It’s almost like she is getting to return to her days of being in a college dorm, a period of her life that she loved. The setting is also wonderful – the physical space is well-designed and aesthetically pleasing, something that isn’t lost on our mom. We also love the fact that the whole cottage feels like a home, and not a “locked dementia ward” that is hidden away from the rest of the residents, the way some larger facilities do. At Monarch, our mom is the customer, and it shows. An added bonus is the outstanding food – this is delightful since our mom has always been a good eater and she continues to heartily enjoy this aspect of her life. A perfect example of Monarch’s incredible environment was the afternoon tea we held in the lovely atrium area to celebrate our mom’s 85th birthday. Monarch’s staff did an amazing job of decorating and hosting this event for our mom’s friends and me – they made us feel so special. I cannot overstate how much Monarch Cottage has made a difference in our mom’s and our family’s lives. We always look forward to visiting her at Monarch. So do her long-time friends from her San Diego community. And it doesn’t have to be a special occasion. We always feel welcome there, whether for a meal or anytime - we aren’t just relegated to “visiting hours.” Seeing our mom happy at this stage of her life has brought us joy at a time that we weren’t sure was still possible. I only wish we could have placed her there sooner!
