Reviews Carmel Village
July 2026
I have lived at Caramel Village for four years now, and I have to say in the Chef in her dining staff for always creating amazing dishes and having wonderful service you can really see the care and Love she has and they have for each of the residence. I will tell you the Chef personally comes out and greets us every morning. We hug each other every morning talk for a few minutes and then we say have a great day. The staff is very friendly and supportive and understanding with how busy and hectic it gets in there . I tell them all the time they deal with alot and handle it well, wanted others to know

Carmel Village is an acceptable place for seniors who are still fairly independent and only need minimal assistance, meals, and basic housekeeping. However, once a resident requires a higher level of care, our experience was extremely disappointing. My mom lived at Carmel Village for two years. During the last four months of her life, as her care needs increased, the quality of care declined significantly. While Carmel Village charged additional fees for every added service—which we understood and expected—the care that was promised was not the care that was provided. One of the biggest concerns was the call button service. We were told that staff strive to respond within 10 minutes, whether a resident needed help picking up a dropped remote or had fallen. During the first two weeks after my mom began using this service, she regularly waited 20, 30, and sometimes 45 minutes for someone to respond. We met with Ruby from the office, who apologized, said she would address the issue with staff, and even told us she would personally respond if it ever exceeded eight minutes. Unfortunately, we never saw that commitment reflected in what actually happened. 2 months later, after my mom returned from the hospital on hospice, the problems became even more serious. Carmel Village charged us a fee for coordinating with our outside hospice provider, but we repeatedly found ourselves reminding staff when medications or supplies were running low because many caregivers seemed unfamiliar with hospice procedures. My mom was bedridden and had physician's orders to be repositioned every two hours to prevent pressure sores, yet there were many times when my sister and I were there for hours without anyone coming in to turn her. We also found ourselves constantly correcting mistakes involving meals and medications. My mom remained mentally sharp until the very end of her life, and it was heartbreaking to watch her concerns be dismissed even though she was often correct. Instead of being able to spend our time simply being daughters, my sister and I had to be at Carmel Village every day for several hours just to make sure our mom received the care she needed. During the final three weeks of her life, we had already begun making plans to move her to elsewhere because the situation had become so concerning. We also involved the Long-Term Care Ombudsman and held weekly meetings with the Carmel Village director, [name removed], and her staff in hopes of improving communication and resolving ongoing issues. Unfortunately, many of the same concerns continued from week to week, and [name removed] often responded as though she were hearing about them for the first time, It became clear she is very out of touch about what really goes on in the rooms of the residents compared to what she THINKS the Med Techs and Caregivers are actually doing. We observed it all first-hand by sitting in my mom’s room for hours every day. Choosing an assisted living facility is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Based on our experience, Carmel Village may be suitable for someone who only needs minimal assistance, but I cannot recommend it for anyone who requires significant daily care or hospice support. The promises made did not match the care my mom actually received, and I would not trust Carmel Village with the care of a loved one whose needs extend beyond basic assisted living.

I live in the Village for 3.5. Years. The staff the food is amazing. The grounds are park like with squirrels and ducks and crows abound. Weekly entertainment is a genuine asset. Daily activities are free for the community transportation to your doctor is also available as well as weekly outings to local grocery stores and other places to buy clothing or pet supplies. Personal Notary services are available by one of the residents. If you still can drive. Parking spaces available. Pets are welcome.

I recently visited my mom for the day I took her out shopping and after we came back we had lunch and I must say it was so enjoyable. From the moment we sat down the welcome from the dining staff was warm and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed the salmon entree and winter arugula salad, the fish was so tender and flavorful. But what I noticed more so is that the Chef came out and walked around talking to everyone, there were hugs, hand holding and lots of laughing which to me shows how close she is with the residents which made me feel so happy that my mom has someone like that when I can’t be here, I see she is cared for. I wanted to share my experience

My dad has been here for a year!! I cannot say enough great things about this wonderful place my dad now calls home!! The dining experience here is over the top fantastic!! The chef and her crew do an amazing job. Every meal from breakfast to lunch to dinner to all the snack times in between are amazing!! I recently attended Carmel Village's Open House and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was! The landscaping is beautiful with lots of areas to be outside, the variety of 1 bedroom options were great, the buffet food was delicious but maybe most importantly was how welcoming the staff was and how happy the residents were! The Marketing Director took me on a thorough tour, explaining that they also offer Memory Care and I left feeling this is where I would have my Dad move if he relocates in California. Carmel Village is a wonderful community with lots of options!

Carmel Village is the hidden gem of greater Fountain Valley. A lot of the staff has worked their a long time, residents were happy when I talked to them and it has large apartments.

Please DO NOT put your family member with memory in this facility. When I placed my loved one in January last year it was great, great loving caretakers and they were so dedicated to caring for my loved one, but eight months later they fired the most caring people and replaced them with worker bees. The care went slowly down. By November I had seen to much to allow my loved one to stay there. I brought a friend to see this place and I discovered that the whole time my loved one was there the medical directive behind the door was for someone that had been there in2022 which means that if emergency personnel came they would have the wrong information! I removed my loved one at the end of this December and found out he had a head wound infection and a UTI !! His body recked from his infections . No staff or medical personnel had addressed this issue and who knows if I would even have my loved one here today. So please don’t let your loved one get in this situation. If you have a loved one there check on them ALL the time and at different times so you really know what is happening with your loved one.

If you are in ideal health; and fit and able as a 30 year old, Carmel Village could work for you. But if you want working elevators and would like at least adequate care; and would like more activities than basically bingo, stay way from Carmel Village. Additionally, meals here are less than satisfactory. An UPDATE to my review: fairly recently, the staff here has tried to improve this place a lot; they have succeeded admirably. The courtyard has added more concrete areas, which are easier to traverse; the activities staff has added more entertainment, social gatherings, and presentations , as well as some classes, which are really pleasurable; the holiday decorations are really imaginative for all holidays; and the dining staff is trying very hard: the food overall is much better, and serving staff try to be prompt and professional! The grounds are open and lovely, and kept up well!

The staff at Carmel Village - Fountain Valley are fantastic! Led by Nurse Laura - they are caring and attentive to the needs of their residents and their families. They are MUCH appreciated!
October 2023
Carmel Village is a great choice when faced with a hard decision to relocate a Senior to a safe space. The staff are very friendly, patient, and active with their residents. They have multiple activities to engage residents through the day. From the moment you walk in the door you feel like you’re in a welcoming safe environment. Nurse Laura, Wellness Director, is very involved with the staff, residents and their families to ensure care is appropriately provided. She listens to the concerns of all parties and makes adjustments in a timely manner. Communication is a key factor in this facility. It is very clean with a great layout. From the dinning area to common areas, Carmel Village takes pride in assuring residents enjoy their stay here.

If you are looking for an assisted living, or a memory care, I highly recommend Carmel Village. I have been in the medical field for 18 years. I have worked with many facilities. Carmel Village is a facility that I recommend to many of my families. I have had the honor of witnessing the staff and the loving care that they provide to their patients. They are also very welcoming to their families and encourage families to participate and be present with their loved ones. It's a very warm and inviting environment! A++

This community is a gem. The staff are so passionate about providing residents with a safe and loving environment to spend their Golden years. Highly recommended!
October 2023
I’ve been to many senior living communities and Carmel Village is top of my list for excellent and compassionate care. Led by Nurse Laura, this community has overcome many challenges (especially with the pandemic) while providing a safe and enriching environment for their residents. Nurse Laura loves working with seniors and it shows in her work ethic and support for her staff. Staff treat the residents like family and there’s plenty of fun activities throughout the day.
October 2023
My mom has lived at Carmel Village in Memory Care for almost 9 months now. The decision to move my mom to Carmel Village was necessary but also filled with plenty of uncertainty and questions from my husband and I. Within the first few days, Laura Sanchez "Nurse Laura", proactively met with us to discuss my mom's needs and care in detail. Her knowledge, honesty, foresight, transparency, and action-based solutions were and continue to be beyond reassuring. After 9 months, our relationship with Nurse Laura has only grown stronger. She has a true passion for the residents at Carmel Village, which shows in her interactions with both residents and their families. We continue to love and trust Carmel Village, all their caring staff, and especially Nurse Laura, who has made this transition and plan for continued care all that we wanted for my mom.
October 2023
I would highly recommend Carmel Village as a place to receive excellent care for your loved one. My mom has been at Carmel Village for 8 years, the past 5 in Memory Care so I have personally experienced the amazing loving care they provide. Over the last year the Memory Care executives have focused on building a new, stronger foundation by expanding and reinforcing more specialized programs in activities, exercise, direct care regimens and so much more! Laura Sanchez, Health & Wellness Director/Nurse is phenomenal in listening to family members needs and looking at the "unique" needs of each individual. Laura does everything in her power to ensure that she and the staff meets both the family and loved one's needs. Lastly, we all know those "unique" needs constantly change and Laura opens up a wonderful communication channel for the family members to connect with as this new life unfolds. Thank you to Laura and the loving, caring staff for taking such good care of my mama!
September 2023
My dad is a resident at Carmel village. It is a great place to live, lots of activities for the residents. The site is very clean, my dad has his own grassy patio where he can sit and enjoy the sun. The food is great and the staff is very helpful. I like the open line with communications with my dads needs. I appreciate that Laura, the head nurse, reaches out to me for any concerns regarding my dads care.
August 2023
The staff at Carmel Village went above and beyond to help with end of moms life. My family, we got to point we could no longer provide end of life support at home. Within a few short days they took in to memory care unit. . She passed quickly and they were a great support. I would Highly recommend this facility and staff for any services you may need . Thank you Carmel Village .
July 2023
We sadly had to move my mother-in-law into Memory Care 1 1/2 years ago. We are so blessed to have found Carmel Village via a friend's recommendation and could not be happier that we found the wonderful people at CV! The entire staff is very loving and our mother is quite happy living there! After some initial adjustment she quickly responded well to all the loving, patient attention she is given. Now she tells us she loves where she lives and she loves all of her caregivers!
April 2023
Carmel Village is one the most professionally ran Assisted Living I’ve encountered! The level of cleanliness, organization level of the staff, and overall internal and external communication is truly unrivaled! My company provides extended nursing care for patients at Carmel Village. And the feeling of knowing how well my patients are cared for, is invaluable. The Wellness Director, Nurse Laura is an absolutely phenomenal professional. Her integrity and genuine love for her seniors is something to behold. Thank you Carmel Village for being a leader and a shining example of Top quality senior care!
April 2023
Carmel Village is a beautiful assisted living in Fountain Valley. The grounds, but more essentially the staff and caregivers are intelligent and caring people. Laura Sanchez, Wellness Director goes out of her way to advocate and ensure all residents and families are receiving the proper level of care the residents need to be safe and happy. I highly recommend this Assisted Living Community to anyone who can benefit from this level of care.
October 2022
I’ve had my mother here for three years, the facility is clean, the grounds are amazing with picnic tables in a courtyard with green trees, it’s beautiful. The staff is AMAZING, they have helped us with getting my mom adjusted to living here. I’ve had to call late in the evening to ask for someone to assist my mom with her TV; without a hesitation, they go to her room and fix the situation, which helps calm my mom due to her dementia. The nurse supervisor Laura S. is incredible how much knowledge she has in dealing with seniors, and making everything go smoothly. She helped us in so many ways I can’t say enough about her or her team. The receptionist are helpful, Heidi along with the numerous med techs, and Petra all make having my mom there super easy. The dining area is spacious and allows interactions with other residents along with there numerous exercise and special events gives my mom several choices throughout the day to take part in. Choosing the right place for our parents as they age is very difficult and can be frightening for them, but Carmel Village was the right choice for us and my mom, she enjoys living there.

I am a retired attorney at law and live alone here and this place has outstanding care if and when you need it. They use to have great food here but as of late the old cook it seems left of something from what i have heard and now some of the meals are behond good but totally awsome on the other hand when they are off...yuk yuk yuk...but there is a pizza parlor around the corner with in walking distance that is awesome. I highly recommend this place!!!!!! they have a doctor who comes around and exames you and will prescribe what you need if and when you need it. The staff starting with cash the head man who is fantastic and then you have the men and women assisting him especially in the the medicine area and this is one place i often recommend. I rate this place place an 8 on a scale of 1-10...from what i heard they lost the main cook a while back and I seem to have noticed a change in the meals and frankly i do not think they are as good as they were before but who ever is heading this is trying hard and things are getting better. Thank you to the staff and the nurses and the men and women creating our meals. I just wish i could put my finger on what it is that seems different to me and frankly not as good as it use to be when i first got here. The only think this place lacks is a pool....lol lol lol.... Some places have them and i have been looking to be honest with you. I have thought about returning to where i lived which had a pool as long as i had meals? on the other hand i do not like to be lonely! i had that enought times in the army! they put on good shows and entertainment and it makes things so much better for us lonely older folks. I want to say thank you to the staff and crew and the people including waiters and waitresses in the food area. I am not sure why the food has changed or perhaps it is me?

My parents lived in Carmel Village for over six years. We selected CM over many other places we looked at because it was nicely decorated and well kept, it has a beautiful dining room with fabulous food and a number of activity rooms with many interesting actives going on throughout the week and it was not owned by a big corporation with lots of rules and restrictions - and the price was right! What we didn’t know at the time but found out over the years was the quality of care and the really dedicated staff that couldn’t seem to do enough for my parents. Carmel Village seems to have a knack for hiring the very best people as caregivers, servers, office help, maintenance and housekeeping. My Mom was in the memory care unit for 4 years and I was constantly impressed by the patient and kind-hearted caregivers as well as the many activities provided and the beautiful protected outside area for relaxing and walking. My parents have both passed on but I will miss my visits to Carmel Village and the interaction with all the staff. It’s a real gem!

Carmel Village has been amazing. Having a parent in assisted living is not easy. It can be a super stressful situation for a family, both mentally and monetarily. With the pandemic added it to this, I must say the cooperation we have received financially on helping keep my parent safe and secure has been such a blessing. Thank you for all your amazing work keeping your facility friendly, clean and following all covid guidelines. You have really gone above and beyond for the residence, and their families.

Both of my parents are in memory care at this facility. I feel that the staff is very attentive and responsive. They have been very helpful in directing me with care issues that have arisen for both my Mom and Dad. The care givers in Memory Care are very sensitive and caring to all members on the floor. If you are looking for a place for a loved one you will not be dissapointed. Nothing but positive things to say. The Director Jessica is amazing and Cash Benton who handles the financial stuff has also been super helpful. I feel we are finally in the right place.

I provide exercise classes at Carmel Village. The community is very welcoming and I always have a big happy crowd at my classes. They have a busy activity schedule including many indoor activities and trips out of the community. They also have a range of fabulous entertainers and regular events. One of my favorite communities!
October 2019
We are entertainers who perform regularly at Carmel Village..We actually perform over 300 shows a year all over Southern California, primarily for senior living facilities. Consequently we see a lot of good and a lot of not so good..... Carmel Village is one of our favorite locations as the residents always seem so happy and involved. Rose, the activities director, is very hands on and encourages everyone to participate. She truly cares about every single resident and makes sure they are included. Whatever level of participation they can do is welcomed. The Executive director Cash and his team are more like a family, who care about your family. Making it more of a home like atmosphere.. where everyone knows everyone and the people that work here are not just "doing their jobs" ...they really care. In fact over the years we have been made to feel that we are part of their family.. It is always a pleasure to visit and we are honored to be a part of the Carmel Village experience. Brad & Susi Q... "Jusstuss"
October 2019
My friend moved in there a few months ago and although the staff appears friendly enough, they dont really seem to take their needs seriously. My friend has limited vision and has no family in this state. He recently had eye surgery and I requested that the nurses put a protective cover over his eye before bed and no one ever showed. He gets frustrated very easily and they are aware of that, but act as if it's no big deal. He does pay a lot of money to be there and I would like to see more care taken. PLEASE take your residents needs more seriously!
October 2019
I have been visiting Carmel Village as a Mobile Dentist for several years now to treat residents that live here. The facility has always impressed me by how attentive the staff is, the cleanliness of the facility, and fun activities they have for their residents. As a mobile dentist I visit many care homes for the elderly and would recommend this location.

Carmel Village, and David Kuzmiak, their Marketing Director were so very helpful from start to finish, in making my Aunt feel at home in her new home there. David covered every detail, many I wouldn't have thought of myself, to make the transition as smooth as possible. I can't thank him enough. My Aunt's first words on arriving were, "Oh! Its so Nice!" That is priceless to me! Susan Wight
