My parents have been at the Carlton for a few months now. My sisters and I have been so grateful to everyone there, particularly for their flexibility during a couple of challenging situations and their genuine appreciation of and care for our parents. One of the reasons we chose the Carlton over others was that they offer a transitional model of care for dementia residentswhich means that our mom (who has dementia) can actually live with my dad (who doesn’t) in the regular area, but go to memory care during the day if they wish (which she loves). Special shout-out to Mina, who has gone above and beyond to help my parents settle in. Only minus is wish they had a bigger elevator somewhere on the premises to assist with moving in. Our movers had to walk my parents’ very heavy, admittedly large sofa up the stairs because it wouldn’t fit in any of the elevators. (We tipped them well!)

Our Carlton experience has been ongoing and positive. My husband and love of my life has been in Memory Care for 5 months. We have been cared for by so many wonderful people throughout the system: memory care, counseling, dining, events, advice and help with just about everything for my husband as well as for myself. This road of memory and physical changes for my spouse has has been tough on him and myself. The ongoing hugs and compassionate sharing have made this a bit easier. Coming from home to a memory care unit was frightening though these wonderful people have helped me get through each stage of loss with thoughtfulness, kindness and strength. The facility is well cared for with constant upgrades. The maintenance staff pitched in to make our transition easier. The whole staff has been next to none. They are always training in kindness care for clients and their families. From the many introduction tours by staff (Innes and Jesse) to the welcome by the memory care director and care personnel manager (Kayla) and the pet parent Genai our Memory Care Activity Manager and Counseling supervisor (Jess) and even the sweet and approachable chef extraordinaire, Elvin who helps prepare delicious specially prepared food for my husband. The medication team has shown so many wonderful traits in helping their clients receive their prescribed meds in a timely manner. I have been so impressed with their constant communication with one another for assistance. This road through dementia is not taken lightly by these people. They really care and try to lighten our load both physically and emotionally. Another shout out to the Yolo Hospice who team with the Carlton team to help care for my husband and myself.

My mother has been at Carlton for 5 months in independent living. Prior to that, she lived in her house, alone, ever since my father passed two years ago. She is adjusting very well, better than expected, primarily due to the excellent care and attention she receives from the Carlton staff. Many senior living facilities have a limited number of staff available at any given time. Not Carlton. There is a nurse available to residents, and her service is included in monthly fees. Administrative staff are always at the front desk, from early in the morning until 9PM each day. There have been some minor emergencies with my mother over the last 5 months. Carlton was always there to take care of her quickly and efficiently. I would highly recommend Carlton Senior Living in Davis for your loved one.

This review is long. The short version is this: Carlton Senior Living in Davis gets 5 stars in all areas in my book. My wife has been a resident of Carlton Memory Care in Davis for a bit over 4 months now. It was a real struggle for me to move her out of our home. I was convinced that I was the best caregiver she could possibly have and that our home was the best place for her to be safe, happy, and well cared-for. I also arranged for in-home care and was well pleased with the care we were receiving from them. Time, however, proved me wrong. It became clear to me that my wife could not be safe at home without 24/7 hands-on care. It was also clear that she was becoming less and less satisfied with her living situation at home. A final crisis (one of several involving hospitalizations for injuries) finally made it crystal clear to me that I am neither God, SuperMan nor a multi-millionaire and needed to look elsewhere for help with her care. We have been residents of Davis for around 50 years and over that time have become familiar with the various care facilities here. Carlton always felt comfortable to us. The atmosphere seemed to fit our style. Like we desire our home to be: Solid, friendly, and caring, but not trying to impress by being high-brow’ or fancy’ or hoity-toity’. So Carlton was first choice. My wife moved into the Memory Care unit toward the end of May 2023. It is now the tenth of October. These last 4+ months have more than confirmed my initial impression impressions. All of the staff I have encountered, from the folks who mop the floors and do the laundry to the Director of the entire facility have been consistently available, accommodating, patient, pleasant, friendly, good listeners and, as far as I can tell, very good at their specific jobs and desirous of doing those jobs well. I have never felt the need to beg’ for anything on my wife’s behalf. The staff seem to get along well with each other. From all appearances they appear to be comrades in arms’ throughout the organization. They have also made me feel like part of the family’ and care about me as well as my wife. They have made me feel like part of the team’. I have come to really enjoy interacting with the care team in the Memory Care unit and also appreciate the opportunities I have to interact with other residents of Memory Care. I continue to be astounded by the consistently patient, proactive, and compassionate attention given by the caregivers to the residents. I tell them oftentimes that their angel wings are showing’! The food is good. Good variety, consistently well-prepared and tasty, tailored to any special needs or tastes of the residents as needed. My personal favorites are the excellent(in my opinion) soups. The food, to its credit, is not get dressed up and go to a fancy restaurant’ fare, but more like what a caring homemaker would provide for his or her family. The resident rooms are relatively small, like a good-sized bedroom: a good-sized closet and plenty of room for a bed, dresser, TV, recliner, and a side-table or two. I have come to appreciate this arrangement and to view it as a welcome feature because it encourages residents to interact with staff and each other in the capacious common areas in the unit rather than remaining isolated. Experience has shown me that this is of significant benefit to residents. The organized activities in the Memory Care unit are varied in order to accommodate the needs of residents at their varied stages of life, but consistent enough to give some structure to residents’ lives. Like I said at the outset: In my view the Carlton Senior Living Memory Care Unit in Davis gets 5 stars all around. There’s much more that I could add, but Google Reviews limits the lengths of posts to 4096 characters and you were probably ready to be done reading this long before now anyway. Now that I think about it, I do, actually, have a complaint: Parking is limited. Sometimes you have to park down the street. Thanks for your time. Bill Krause

My mother is loving her life at Carlton. They have been so welcoming and helped her get involved in all the activities right away. She is playing bingo, doing ice cream tastings, going on shopping trips, etc. I also appreciate how responsive the staff has been to me, especially since I live far away and can't be there in person.

I toured 4 facilities when considering the best fit for my mom and Carlton definitely stood out! It was by far the nicest looking, most comfortable, clean, modern facility. Speaking to the staff and hearing about the daily schedules and activities was very reassuring. They really seem to have the resident in mind and making sure they are stimulated with positive yet slower paced options pretty much all day long. I was very worried about my mother's cooperation to willingly move into the memory care unit and was shocked and amazed to see how wonderfully it all went, giving much credit to the experienced staff. My mom loves living here and raves about her new friends (the care givers) everytime I visit. We are very thrilled with our choice!!

My husband has not been mobile for few years due to the complications of his knee surgeries a decade ago also some chronic illness. Before we checked into Carlton , we had visited several assisted living facilities nearby, when we walked into Carlton, we were immediately attracted by the friendliness and coziness of this facility! My husband has been living here for one year and we are so grateful for the support and help from everyone from the management to the caretakers here ! My wife spent three years in the Memory Care unit at Carlton Senior Living-Davis. I was impressed by the professionalism, competence and, above all, the compassion of the staff. In many ways she and I were treated as family. In the many occasions I visited my wife I observed how all residents were treated with respect and understanding. The staff seem to know how to defuse each occasional difficult situation without infringing on the residents' dignity. In the last days of my wife's life the staff made sure she was comfortable and pain-free. I am grateful to everybody at Carlton-Davis for the care given to my wife.

I would like to tell you about my experience here at Carlton Senior Living in Davis, California. I am kind of a newish resident. I came here a year ago Thanksgiving and I want to let you know that this facility is a heaven to me. The administration and staff are absolutely wonderful. I get the best service here. Housekeeping and laundry are provided weekly. Anything I need, I just have to ask and it's there. Everybody is very kind and all the staff know me by name. The residents are also very nice and kind. The food is very good, although there are times that I don't eat in the dining room but instead eat in my apartment. However, most of the time the food is great and I enjoy it and go downstairs to eat with my friends. The activities offered here are wonderful. There is a lot of variety such as Mahjong, Bingo, Bean Bag toss, Sing-a-longs, and Happy Hour. There are also movement classes in the mornings and cooking classes some afternoons. I belong to the Lunch Club and we go out to different restaurants or have the food brought in. There is also a movie theater that plays something every night and there is a hair salon on site. Transportation is provided to out of community activities with notice and there is a scenic drive on Sundays. I enjoy my life here, it is very loving and fulfilling to my needs.

I am a 90 year old, female, and in good health, but following the death of my husband, I knew that I needed additional social contact and less responsibilities related to living alone. I am most impressed by the dignity and compassion that is shown to all residents at Carlton. There are many levels of need, and I am comforted by knowing that when I need more assistance that I will be treated the way I see others being treated now. I could write many reasons why I am so pleased to be living here, but I am most enjoy the many activities they provide at varying levels, for mind, body and soul. My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and it was apparent to our family that dad needed more care than we could provide. Our family visits dad weekdays and weekends. Each staff member from custodial to upper managers knows every client, every family's expectation, every concern for the wellbeing of their family member. My 94 year old aunt has been living at Carlton for eight months now. Because she's in the beginning stages of Alzheimer's, it was difficult to find a residential facility that would let her live in assisted living. This was key for us as my aunt's always been stubbornly independent and is truly not ready for memory care. I've been impressed with Carlton's commitment to protecting the dignity and independence of their residents and their willingness to let Ellie be Ellie for as long as possible. After the scary and difficult isolation of the pandemic, she's relaxed and happy and taking advantage of the beautiful garden, the concerts, the wonderful meals and most importantly, having the opportunity to socialize once again. I'm so glad we found Carlton for her.

Through some difficult phases mom has experienced with her Alzheimer’s Disease, Mina and other memory care managers have patiently worked with me to help resolve the issues as they arise. Mom has developed friendships with residents and staff and feels at home here. One gentle suggestion, if it is feasible to adaptively move resources around within/among Carlton’s communities to a greater extent to address additional care needs for each resident as they arise (until the issues can be resolved by the resident’s family), that may help residents with meeting their budgets; hiring additional 3rd party care, on top of rent, is expensive. Thanks for this opportunity!

When Otto and I were brought to see the Carlton, I was prepared to not like this place. In fact I was ready to really, really not like this place. But as we wandered around, every one of the folks whom we met, either resident or employee, said "I hope that you decide to live here. I really like the Carlton." We looked at the only apartment which was available and decided to consider living here. That was almost two years ago. I like living at the Carlton. All the cooking, cleaning and laundry which I had done for our family for 62 years, is done for me. Everyone who works here, from wait staff to personal companion is happy with their job. There are lots of exercise classes, craft classes, and Bridge games to participate in. And every meal is delicious. My apartment is very well cleaned, and the laundry is done to perfection. Enjoying Carlton Plaza of Davis, by Ruth and Bill Hall We wanted our 70th wedding anniversary to reflect our unique tastes, but didn't believe these could possibly be met at Carlton Plaza of Davis. The event went far beyond our hopes! Planning was easy. The staff supported us in our weird requests, making suggestions but leaving final decisions to us. They knew how to stay within our budget. When the warm July day arrived, 100 people---family from far away and friends (both old ones and those who live next to us now) visited together in the gracious living room and sang together around the grand piano; some ventured out into the courtyard. As we bid them farewell they raved about what a spectacular party it had been. The next day nine of our children. grandchildren and spouses plus three energetic great grand toddlers had our time alone in the private dining room. After all the festivities were over, we learned that Carlton staff members had met unpredicted needs in such a congenial way that the many activities had truly become a unique family celebration.
