They have a great sales presentation. Just know that going in. We used this facility as transitional while the house sold. We also hoped the arrangement would last 6 months, but since our situation required full time caregiving, we might as well have found a suitable apartment with round the clock care for far less money. We left early to do just that because there were just too many discrepancies and safety concerns to stay. Things to consider - INDEPENDENT Living is JUST THAT HERE. If your loved one is somewhere in between assisted/independent, this is not the place for you… even with a private full time caregiver. The staff complain about the tenants - (YES, Old people can be crotchety …especially those transitioning from their home for 60 years, but rest assured Kitchen Staff, people around you speak Spanish too) Kitchen Staff - they are intolerant to special request. Their attitudes show in their unwillingness, and I couldn't tell if it was an upper management thing… maybe they are underpaid. Maybe it's a money thing from corporate … (corporate does not allow tipping the servers). I don't know but it feels cheap and miserly. They do not allow caregivers to sit with their clients - they make them sit off to the side - weird. People have caregivers for a reason. The layout of the building is vast. There are two elevators and either one you choose is a long hike to dining or the front door if the unit is on outer sides of the building. Noise!! Omgosh is this place noisy! The exterior exhaust fans are really bad with vibration and noise level. Also- there is Always work crews doing something noisy. Trucks, walking the halls, talking in the halls, etc. Lack of building Ventilation. If someone in one of the units has a major accident, the whole floor is affected and it's overwhelming. Water, Power and cable is off randomly and often for repairs. A weekly thing at least. The "Spa" is not a spa. It's a Private bathroom with a rusty jetted tub. The building in general is in need of an overhaul. The good - Christmas lights are beautiful and if your loved one is thoroughly independent and socially graceful there are lots of activities and outings. Take into consideration the 60 day notice to vacate policy. If you're on the hunt for a different environment due to progressing elderly changes, Those options come up without notice as you have to jump on them because senior housing/assisted living is overwhelmingly scarce in the South Bay Area and they have waitlists. We ended up having to pay a month and half after we vacated. (It's in the contract and it wasn't a surprise, but it is A point to linger on When making a decision). I hope this helps and much luck to you in this very difficult process.

I enjoy being at the Chateau. The monthly calendar is filled with a wide choice of activities. The amenities are remarkable. The cheerful Staff at the Chateau helped make the huge transition from living alone in Carmel, to life in Community in Cupertino , smooth . Ive made many friends over these eighteen months. I enjoy walking the perimeter of the Chateau. Of course, I believe I have the very choicest of apartments in my third floor Sanctuary in the Trees.

I have known John Gray, the owner of Chateau Cupertino, for years. He is as real and caring as they get. He comes from three generations of his family providing affordable, high quality senior retirement living communities. The Chateau is a remarkable place for seniors to live. It offers so many wonderful amenities and life experiences. When they say, things just get better with age, the Chateau would be the place that shows its true.
