My elderly parent lived in the Cottages. Nice place, good food. Poor to average care. Management is awful. They made critical mistakes in caring for my parent. When they are held accountable, they lie to cover up; and tell you (in a rude way) to move somewhere else. You have to be a full time advocate; or your parent will end up a vegetable in memory care. The Cottages of Carmel has impressive tours, well-appointed apartments & common areas, friendly and caring staff, excellent food and engaging weekly activities. However the Bridge memory section may not provide for the care and safety needed for a senior with dementia who is a demonstrated fall risk. Our mother fell and broke her leg after only three days at the Cottages. She previously had private in-home caregivers for two months without falling. We feel there were not enough measures in place to minimize the risk of a fall during the night shift, which seemed understaffed. The fall required hospitalization and then skilled nursing. We felt it was not safe for her to return to the Cottages. Tighter controls over the assessment process would likely have prevented our mother from being admitted to the Cottages Bridge section.

The cottage's staff was friendly and made me feel very welcomed. I came to do a class on wildflowers for the residents and was treated to a lovely lunch by the staff. The class was in high attendance and the residents seemed to really enjoy the class. The facility was very beautiful and I felt that the facility and the staff were well kept and very enjoyable. It felt far more home like and welcoming than many facilities I have been to in the past.

Realizing you can no longer care for your loved one and need help is one of the most difficult moments of one's life. I was overwhelmed. I recently took a tour at The Cottages of Carmel. It was wonderful. Gina DiMaria showed me the grounds and they were quiet and beautiful. Everything was in excellent condition. Inside every area, everything was clean and well kept there was so much to offer. More than we could provide at home. Gina was so understanding and compassionate about my situation. She made me feel hopeful and less afraid of this transition for me and my family. I'm glad to know there are people there like Gina and I felt so much better about everything after meeting her. The Cottages of Carmel was my "work" home for many years. Much of the stellar staff is still there today which says a lot about the management company and culture of the community. Later, my mother moved in Memory Care and she was treated like family. The staff genuinely cares about the residents. The staff communicated with me frequently, particularly during the challenging times at the height of the pandemic. They are warm and welcoming. Gina, the sales director, was wonderful and visited my mother frequently. Julie, the ED, is stellar. Jose, Kathy, Analyn, Able - and many more - took wonderful care of my mother. I couldn't have chosen a better "home" for her. My sisters and I are eternally grateful.

I have had at least four years of working with the staff at The Cottages of Carmel. Maybe five years. First, for my mother. Later for my 69 year old husband. Both needed the care offered by the Cottage's Memory Care Unit. Each of their needs were different due to their ages, individual physical abilities, and mental acuities, but the memory care staff were able to address these differences with flexibility. My husband's diagnosis was rare and different. Both needed care for their confused minds but also the stimulation of activities that kept them active and engaged. My mother enjoyed many a sing-a-long, bingo with assistance, plus verbal and physical activities with others. While her apartment was cozy and welcoming, she spent most of her waking hours either in the garden or in the common areas with the other residents. When my husband needed care five years after my mother, there were at least five staff members who had taken care of my mother who then helped to care for my husband. Strange for all of us, but it definitely helped that the staff I came to know years before were still there to help me in this most unusual situation I had found myself in. My husband needed to be physically active most hours of the day and the spaciousness of the common areas and outside garden allowed him to easily move about. For our families, the Cottages was always a pleasant place to visit and participate. When you need memory care assistance for a loved one, you want an environment that offers individualized care in a beautiful peaceful setting. The Cottages of Carmel provided that for me when I needed it. I'm grateful.

My sister and I have our 93 your old mother at The Cottages of Carmel. Gina was our first interaction as the marketing director who was very professional and helpful in placing mom. We felt it was a very safe and clean environment with enough stimulus to keep mom entertained. We did look at several other assisted living places but chose this as the best place for our mother. Julie who is in charge of running the Cottages is adored by the residents. She knows them all by name. She has great organization skills and was able to maneuver the residents safely through COVID. And most importantly the communication with family about the resident is excellent. This is really important when you have an elder family member,

Mom has been living happily at the Cottages since February of this year. She loves it! Her favorite thing is mealtime with creations from the chef! The caregivers who work here are the best - they meet everyone where they are at and give loving, caring support. There are many activities and mom has many new friends. It is a beautiful location with new renovations. Gina is great- she gives tours and information and she explains all about living at The Cottages. Heather has a wonderful heart to take care of all of the residents as a nurse. Louisa, David, Gina and Juan are wonderful caregivers in the memory care unit. Take the time to come tour... you will feel at ease knowing your loved ones needs will be met is a caring and gracious way. My mom loves it here!

My Mom writes: "Two years ago, I came to live at the Cottages of Carmel, and I am so glad I did. This facility is just beautiful. Upon entering, you will find a welcoming atmosphere, and the management takes a warm and personal interest in the residents. The staff is friendly and helpful. A daily newspaper is delivered to each apartment, showing the events of the day along with menus for each meal. I have some dietary restrictions, and the kitchen has been more than helpful in accommodating them. There are several styles of apartments to choose from. I have a studio apartment with a fireplace and patio, which has become a home for birds and flowers. I love living at The Carmel Cottages."

My 87 year old Mom lives at the Cottages and we are SO glad she is there. The facility is lovely and the recent renovations look fantastic. Also, the Cottages is a nice size where everyone can get to know each other and the residents don't get lost in the shuffle. But, most importantly, the people are really wonderful. The management team truly cares about their residents and works to listen and address to their feedback. The caregiver team (including the medical technicians and food services) are also wonderful. There is nothing more comforting than knowing that the people helping out my Mom genuinely care about her wellbeing. Many thanks to everyone at the Cottages for all they do!

I've been teaching an exercise fitness class at cottages of Carmel for several years now along with working with residents privately as needed. The atmosphere at the cottages is very pleasant. All staff members are very friendly, respectful and attentive. Between the wonderful privates I've had the opportunity to work with and always friendly and caring staff it feels like I'm walking into my second home. When my father was still around the Cottages of Carmel was my first choice for a new home for him, sadly he passed before he had the opportunity.

A wonderful and caring home for Mom Mom joined Cottages of Carmel almost a year ago. I would highly recommend this wonderful place that treats you like family and is fully interested and really listens to you. Mom has been in four of the other highest rated facilities locally and this is the best and safest for her. Plus she loves the food - I could eat here daily. The dedicated friendly and respectful nurses, management and staff makes a whole difference. The grounds are pretty and taken care of. Everywhere smells good and is clean. Repairs are taken care of when needed. The only other thing I can say is I wish I found this place earlier. Feeling lucky!

I wanted to share my experience at The Cottages Of Carmel. I took my parents in for a tour and lunch. The sales Director Gina said it would be a good way to introduce the community to my parents and have them try the food and observe other residents. The staff was very friendly and the front desk had a sign with our names on it inviting us in.... It made us feel special. What a great first impression Gina, the sales director was so helpful and the Executive Director Julie May was amazing. The food was very good and I feel my parents would benefit from hot meals that they do not have to prepare for themselves. My parents were excited about the different activities and programming offered as well as the outings. I would highly recommend a tour and lunch at The Cottages if you're looking for a great place for a family member.

My experience with The Cottages of Carmel, Carmel CA: Caring staff. Appreciate that there are high level staff who are nurses who work on site. Med tech's are responsive and helpful. So are managers, caregivers and activities staff. The facility is clean. In fact just doing some renovations that increase the sparkle features. Food is very good and tasty. I can't say enough positive things about The Cottages of Carmel. My mother has been a resident there since January 2021. She has a lovely two bedroom apartment with a fireplace and French doors leading out to her own private patio. The staff there is absolutely wonderful and take the very best care of her. My mother is not the easiest person to deal with at times, but the staff there always treats her with kindness and the utmost respect. Her apartment is kept clean and tidy which my mom definitely appreciates. I feel very secure in knowing that she is receiving the very best care. Julie May Estrellado is a fantastic director and I always know that she will respond quickly to any and all issues that we may encounter. I have also shared some meals there with my mom and the food is quite good. My mom has some special dietary needs as she has IBS and they always do their very best to accommodate her with what she feels she is able to eat. The facility itself is lovely. The grounds are beautiful and the inside common areas are as well. From the moment you first walk in, there is always a smiling face to greet you and help you check in. Two of the people I'd like to personally mention are Pamela and Ariana. They could not be nicer and more efficient. Since COVID, they have implemented an electronic check in, asking you all of the necessary questions to keep everyone safe. They have many activities that they plan for the residents if they wish to participate. Sometimes they even have a guitarist that comes to play music for them in the lobby area. Speaking of the lobby, it's very nice. They have a lovely large fireplace where residents can gather and socialize or even just come to sit by and read a book, with a nice beverage area off to the side where you can get coffee, tea or other beverages and snacks. My husband and I toured several places before moving my mom here and although they were all nice, we just got a special feeling when we toured The Cottages. My mother lost her home to the GlassFire in September 2020in Santa Rosa. She lost everything she had in the world so it's been extremely difficult for her as you can probably imagine. The Cottages has helped ease the pain of loss for her. In closing, I can't emphasize enough how happy we are to be able to have moved my mom there. We feel very lucky and blessed to have found her this new home. If you're on the fence about wether or not to move a loved one there, you should highly consider it. You and they will not be sorry.

CASH ONLY. This was by far our favorite breakfast place in CbtS. The staff was very friendly, the food was very good, well priced, the drinks were good (mimosas with fresh OJ, w/fresh grapefruit juice, coffee, fresh OJ). I would hightly recommend.If you are comparing this place vs. Katy’s, go to the cottage. Overall, the food and service was better at the Cottages. And best Bart, this place was better priced too.

My mom recently moved into the Cottages of Carmel in the midst of a major COVID-19 pandemic. It couldnt have gone more smoothly. The entire team there is so authentic, kind, patient and caring. They really are like having a second family. They are looking after her every need and are so responsive. Its a lovely community as well, with great food, activities, and welcoming neighbors. She absolutely loves having her own gas fireplace and private patio. She is happier than Ive seen her in months, after having to cope with the loss of her darling husband, my dad, last year. Were so thankful for The Cottages!
