I would highly recommend Sunrise La Costa for families who need memory care for their loved ones. Memory care, called Reminiscence, is available on the lower floor, and the rest of the facility is for independent and assisted living, which I do not have experience with. However, the Reminiscence floor gave my father great care for the seven months he was living there until his passing. I really liked how the floor is laid out, with the common dining area and activity area in the middle and the rooms laid out in a vaguely oval shape around it. This keeps the residents in the middle of things and less isolated. Also I can't say enough about the Reminiscence staff. They are of course dementia trained, which really matters for this population, and my father received great care. I know because I visited him four to five days a week and saw firsthand not only how they treated him but also the other residents. Of course there will always be some miscommunications and things that go wrong, but whenever something like that happened we were able to work through it to a resolution that was the best for my dad. I highly recommend Sunrise for seniors who need memory care.

We moved my Mom into Sunrise La Costa exactly a week ago and they have already exceeded our expectations as far as being a caring, attentive, and accommodating new home for her! They worked so diligently and quickly to make the move-in process seamless. The caregivers are utterly fantastic! They check on Mom regularly and speak to her tenderly, helping her with mobility while treating her with dignity. We looked at several assisted living places and Sunrise Carlsbad is absolutely the best. The rooms are nice, the staff is so friendly and helpful, especially Jan, the daytime concierge can help you or answer any of your questions. Jan and the rest of the staff ar so accommodating. The food is top notch. We moved my aunt from the east coast who didn’t want to move from New York. Within the first few days, she said she was so happy and was so glad she made the move. There is even a hair and nail salon right on the premises. The activities are great. Also, the residents who are all so friendly, told my aunt how happy they are and that Sunrise is such a wonderful place to live and she will love it. We feel so lucky to have found the best and most reasonable place for everything your family member needs.

My relative has been at Sunrise at La Costa for a month now and we are so pleased with the facility and all the caring and competent staff, including the front desk concierges. He is younger than the other residents and feels comfortable there because of the nice caregivers, the lively atmosphere, and his pleasant and functional accommodations. This is an addition to my previous review: After 11 months, we are still very happy with our family member's care at Sunrise at La Costa. The staff has helped with several challenging situations and they are always so respectful and understanding. We are are very grateful for everything, and we always enjoy visiting this lovely facility.

My Mom had a fall and was diagnosed with cancer so we started looking at assisted living facilities in North County and she choose Sunrise. The facility is beautiful but the staff make this a great place. Jennifer the ED was very responsive and took care of any question or quickly. Jennifer helped us with whatever we needed, even arranged transportation to a doctor appointment for my Mom. She also checked in frequently when my Mom was in the hospital. Most importantly, they have some wonderful caregivers. Many of them have been there for 10+ years and make a difficult job seem easy. The majority of them are positive, compassionate, and always ready to help. The business office was easy to deal with and handled some tricky billing situations quickly. Overall, I would highly recommend Sunrise to anyone looking for Assisted Living.

My father in law with Parkinson’s moved into memory care at Sunrise 3 months ago from another facility. The level of care and attention to detail at Sunrise is remarkable. They monitor the residents closely and make sure they are thriving both physically and socially. The facility is always clean and the atmosphere is welcoming. There is close communication with family members which is greatly appreciated. Sunrise works with our family as a team to ensure my father in law gets the best possible care. Sunrise's focus feels different than a lot of other facilities I've experienced. When they say, "resident first", or a "resident centered approach", they mean it. This is apparent of the whole staff... from front-line team members to management and above. You can rest easy that your loved one is in the right place, especially under the guidance of the newest Executive Director, Marlen Arguero-Hernandez. Trust that she brings industry expertise along with heart and empathy, for the team she supports and most importantly for the residents and their family members who love them.

My 89 year old mother moved into Sunrise La Costa in Aug. 2023 after living 48 years in her home on the East Coast. Due to a stroke in Aug 2020, her mobility and eyesight were greatly impaired causing her to be mostly bed-ridden and need a full-time caregiver. Eventually it was time to move where more help was available and also closer to me. I looked at several communities in San Diego County and found the level of care and the quality of the facilities to be the most appealing and available at Sunrise (mom didn't quality at other assisted living communities). We decided to give them a chance but with the notion that if it wasn't a good fit we might have to bounce around communities. Sunrise La Costa was more than a great fit. They were a pleasure to visit. They met all of mom's required needs, and they did it with patience, kindness, skill, experience, and most importantly, compassion and love. Mom passed in Feb. 2024 at Sunrise. My family weren't the only one who felt loss and shed tears, the Sunrise staff did too. I miss mom but I also miss the genuine and caring staff I came to know and see on a regular basis. I would absolutely recommend them for the kind of care and situation my mom was in.

My mom has been living in memory care at Sunrise La Costa for a few years now. The current team in memory care, including the director Diane has been excellent, responsive to communications and helpful with adding variety to meals and providing activities for residents. Med techs (Maria, Mukti, Liz, Cat) are always nice and happy to help. Outings (scenic tours) are much appreciated when the van driver is available. The recent renovation of the property interior has been a nice upgrade. Thanks to all team members in Reminiscence memory care. Also, excellent front desk staff including Jan and Linda.

There have been many challenges over the last few years to overcome. The one constant at Sunrise La Costa is the consistency to get through those challenges and do what it takes to make sure the residents come first, especially on the Rem floor where my mom lives. I have come to know many employees at Sunrise La Costa over the years and find comfort in knowing that my mom is being looked after and taken care of. The people that work at Sunrise are great caregivers and they are fighters; just like my mom - a fighter! Thank you Sunrise for giving my mom’s life with dementia meaning. 5 stars for the Med Techs, care managers, front desk staff and Diane Morgan. The Reminiscence (memory care) area has gotten on track with the hiring of Diane Morgan, who is a warm, fun, caring, involved manager. She provides stimulation and activities for the residents, while supervising the caring staff. Mukti Shah, med tech and lead care manager is a most caring and giving person, and my mom loves her. We are thankful for her and wish her many blessings, along with all of the care managers (Sylvie, Desiree, Liz, Angela, Marlene, Brianna, Friba, Kat, etc) and the spectacular and dependable med techs (Maria, Rosio, Zaide, etc) along with the nurses including Evelyn and names I forget. The front desk staff, namely Jan and Linda, got us through tough management transition times with their positive, helpful and caring assistance to residents and families. The newest, Crystal, is equally helpful. Sunrise has an exceptional facility, and caring staff but the Virginia. corporate group gets only 1 star for the past 18 months during heavy staff and management turnover and for the poor construction process. Nevertheless, my mom was very happy because of those who cared for her, but management failed to ensure stimulating activities and supervision. We are hopeful again with great efforts by Diane Morgan to provide more mental and physical stimulation of the residents. Since my first review above, we are amazed and so happy with the great improvements that Diane Morgan has made with the Reminisence floor at Sunrise LaCosta She is a caring manager who gets involved in all aspects of her floor, and she is a great communicator. We are also so thankful for the caring staff, spectacular med techs, and desk staff who have been so caring and helpful. Though too numerous to mention all, we thank, Jan, Linda, Zaide, Maria, Mukti, Angela, Evelyn, Sylvie, Desiree, Cristal, Marlene, Mikhael, and Sylvia, the caring hairdresser, and all of the others whom I've missed. My mom is very happy.

My wife and I came here 2 years ago and found a comfortable unit. We did not expect such good experiences with the care giving and medical technician staffs that we have been shown. I believe that the staff responses to our needs has been excellent in many ways. I am now alone after my wife died and decided to stay in our unit because of the amenities that are available and the considerate and carrying staff.

Although the leadership change at Sunrise At La Costa has been challenging, it is apparent that the staff is dedicated, caring, and professional. They work hard and diligently to care for the residents and their needs. I am unfamiliar with the new director, however, I am very familiar with and pleased with the staff I encounter. The front desk people are always friendly and welcoming, the med techs are knowledgeable and helpful, housekeeping is thorough and efficient, the nurses are caring and present. Overall my mom is very happy, loves living at Sunrise and has made a new best friend. She enjoys the daily interaction with staff and other residents, loves the food and the activities and outings provided. Thank you to all the staff including those who work behind the scenes providing good food, good service and a clean environment. I see Sunrise making improvements in the facility new carpeting and paint and furnishings but more importantly they focus on the residents, knowing them and getting to know their family members as well. I live at Sunrise. Beautiful grounds and surroundings. I walk daily. It took a while To call This my home but I now do. Everyone tries their best. The staff is hardworking they are real quality people.

Residents are not treated with dignity. The individuality of the residence is not taken into account by the Nurse. They like the proper experience and knowledge to take care of this demographic. Everybody has a Access to the residence rooms things go missing all the time and nothing is done about it you have to call the police yourself they do not report to the state basically things are unregulated they do whatever they want and charge you whatever they want. Rates will just randomly go up and the care is substandard. The activities is the only good thing a out this place. Kudos to the activities department if my mom didn’t like them I would look for a different facility.

We toured this facility and just loved it. We felt Mom would be so happy here. Peggy was incredibly helpful and gave us all kinds of information and took a lot of time answering our questions. It was my top choice for Mom. But then I learned my Mom’s LTC policy wasn’t going to pay as much as I was initially told. That put Sunrise just out of our price range unfortunately. I was disappointed I couldn’t place Mom there. Sunrise isn’t over priced, we just had to work within Mom’s LTC policy limits.

My mom was here for a year and 3 months, her care depended on who was working in her area. There were a few good caregivers but just as in any senior care home many were mediocre. I was grateful to have my parents under hospice care and a wonderful competent nurse visiting every week and sometimes more often. I have heard that the quality of care has gone down hill and many employees have left in the last 2 years. There have also been several Directors come and go. I would not recommend anyone to come to this facility.

Sunrise Senior Loving is one of the best facilities in San Diego County. This is a small caring community staffed with kind, compassionate, professionals dedicated to seeing your loved ones not just live comfortably but THRIVE. The facility has been meticulously maintained and updated. It looks brand new. Staff & caregivers are the most professional you will meet. They are engaged with residents & guests. A loving, family community.
