Our Dad entered the Long Island State Veterans Home a little more than a year ago after years of constant and loving care from our mom. The physical and mental effects of dementia had become impossible for her to provide the care needed. Upon entering the facility, we knew this was the best place for our dad. The detailed care he received for his illness was superb. The medical and all other there are professional, compassionate, caring and friendly. The food was beyond expectations. Social, religious and military events were constant and entertaining. The respect and care that not just my dad but all residents receive is commendable. As our dad started to decline the attention needed continued, and we will be forever grateful to the staff for providing dignity, peace and care at the end of such a great man's life. My family and I would like to highly recommend the Long Island State Veterans Home to all that might need their services to those who proudly served our county.

My uncle was a veteran and this organization has helped my cousin and my aunt Josephine Napoli tremendously. I can not begin to tell you how loving and compassionate they are to their clients. They have helped my cousin every step of the way through this transition and has guided her every step of the way. It is great to have people like this in the world that are truly caring, loving and are extremely helpful. In c/o of Josep

The best nursing assistant at this place is Prabhjot Kaur. She took care of my father and knew everything about him. She is kind and gives her all to help everyone. The Long Island State Veterans Home needs to hire more workers like her. Prabhjot, I can't thank you enough for being there for not only my father, but me too. You are a beautiful person!

Thank you to all of the great staff at the LI Vets Home for the caring ways and kindness shown to my mom Gertrude during her rehab stay. A special shout out of THANKS to the administrative staff who set the positive tone/ of caring and respect for all entering the facility that percolated through out the building. Also everyone up on unit 2-B where my mom was staying and the dedicated OT/ and PT team who worked with her each day to get her up and going again. Also much appreciated the kind team working in the cafeteria who always greeted me and my mom with kindness and respect - each time we came down to enjoy a snack and cup of coffee . The kindness shown to me and all my family during our visits was heart warming. From the second you walked by the security desk -- it was all smiles and feeling hopeful. Need to share also especially thankful for providing me the courtesy of spending some quality time in the conference rooms taking work calls/ while visiting with my dear mom. We never would have been able to spend as much time as we did if that was not the case. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

Our Dad has been here since 2020, and we are so happy with his care. He was brought here during Covid which was a difficult time, and the staff and communication was awesome even at that time. A big shoutout to Unit 3A! Highly recommend!

My Father in law is cared for here. First, the place looks and is staffed like a hospital. It's CLEAN. Everyone that we encounter, from the RNs, techs and staff, treat him and us kindly and they obviously care for him. Logan, head of recreation, does a great job and brings the enthusiasm . Regina his case manager is very helpful and kind. The Executive Director, Fred Sganga, is personable, kind and runs a good place!!

I was a recent patient at the LISVH. During my stay I experienced outstanding, five-star service from every staff person I met. While everyone was professional, courteous, and helpful, here are a few whose names come immediately to mind: Kesila Campbell, Regina Frunhino, Michelle Cheslak, Samantha Calandrino, and Lauren Mahoney [sorry if the spelling is off]. But there are so many more state home employees deserving of genuine praise for their hard work and dedication - I wish I could remember all of their names. The care, the politeness, the attentiveness was consistent and heartfelt. I was also very grateful for the access I had to recreation, PT, and spiritual supports - all of which were outstanding! A special thank you for the wonderful employees who cared directly for me, including Margaret - who came to see me every evening to ask if I needed anything; Victoria - who came every day to meticulously clean my room; and the succession of loving and dedicated nurses and other key staff on Unit 2B whose names I regrettably can't recall ---- but for whom I am very thankful. A special thank you to the Director, Mr. Fred Sganga, and to Mr. Jonathan Spier, the Associate Director, for their great leadership of the Long Island State Veterans Home!

My husband John arrived at LISVH after a hospitalization and a short stay at another facility. It was clear at the onset that this was a cut above that and a big cut above all other facilities. The warmth, politeness and pleasantries the staff exuded were not lost on us. I felt I could breathe again. The cleanliness and amount of light coming through the halls and common areas also gave a feeling of lightness and weightiness being lifted from my shoulders. John arrived at LISVH Aug. 2023 and just came home July 1 '24. It was a long haul. We thought he'd be home by the new year but two medical setbacks had him starting all over again. No one gave up-least of all my husband! Sharon-RN on our wing and Dr Fermo greeted us with immediately with a take charge attitude! Jackson, our evening aide was great. WE LOVED JACKSON! Brianna also an RN was great along with Krysta on most weekends. Vanessa took care of all the logistics of getting patients where they needed to get to for doctors etc. Always with a smile and twinkling eyes! I also spent a lot of time with Regina our social worker. It's the first really good experience I've ever had with a social worker. Regina though was always around and accessible. She always had good information to pass along as things came up. I'd like to also add that there is a monthly group run by the social workers for those who are the caregivers for any of the residents. It was a great yet unexpected experience for me. Make use of it. You, like me, may be surprised at the peace it brings you. I think many of us caregivers experience the same thoughts and feelings. Then there was the activities staff: Logan, along with the rest of his group worked hard to bring some joy into each residents lives. Each of them took joy in work g to bring a smile or a small clap a long. There were constant activities along with trips: both imagined and real! Fred Sganga the director and all his staff were always around and available. They were present at every event and head both the good and the bad. Indeed I felt there was an open door policy to speak to them.if needed. It is indeed a skilled nursing facility but you will not find a better one around!

I had to write this review, Mr Sganga the director runs the most wonderful home, he roams the grounds talking to family members. My 107 year old mother is on the floor 2D , where the loving staff care for her. Susanne, Erin , Celia , and Fuschia treat her as if she was their mother. I have never seen a place as loving, caring and professional as the Veterans Home. My family is eternally grateful to these people who've dedicated their lives to the most vulnerable and deserving peopl

After experiencing a few other care facilities in the area, the veterans home has proven to be above and beyond better than any other facility. The level of respect and care for the patients ( veterans) is amazing. The activities provided are wonderful. The food is top notch. The medical care and attentiveness of the staff 100% puts family members at ease. We know our dad is receiving the best care.

I recently paid a visit to an old friend, a Vietnam-era Air Force Veteran who was transferred into the Long Island State Veterans Home several months ago. He had been in several hospitals and rehab centers over the last year before he was accepted into LISVH. I was amazed at the beautiful facility, and the programs and activities available to the Veterans residing there. The quality of care and the kindness and compassion shown by the medical and administrative staff to our Veterans is outstanding. I left the facility with the feeling that my friend and all of the other Veterans are receiving the caring treatment that they deserve, and would recommend it to other Veterans needing such care.

The LI State Veterans Home, under the guidance and leadership of Mr. Fred Sganga, is without a doubt the most dynamic and compassionate facility. My father has been receiving superb care from all of the nursing staff, speech therapists, occupational therapists, aides, front desk staff and all others. It is truly a delight to walk into a nurturing, pristine environment, where you are greeted with compassion and care. As I let my eyes wander I take note of the events occurring for the day and I hear the communication in the most positive of ways, with respect and dignity to our veterans, from the staff. I am also delighted by the decor, plants and flowers that create an atmosphere of calm and joy. My dad who needs assistance can buzz for help and waits very little until one of the aides or nurses is there for his needs. All the staff in Unit 1A must be commended for their kindness, efficiency and their dedication to our American heroes, our veterans. Thank you so much, Mary Cook

My mother was a resident of LISVH since 2018. She recently passed - with loving hands caring for her. I cannot begin to express how well cared for she was and I extend my deepest gratitude to all who work there. Through COVID and as she progressed in her illness, I knew she was in caring and skilled hands. This review is done with deepest appreciation for the great work that goes on at the Vets Home each day.

My Dad has resided at the LISVH at Stony Brook for long term rehabilitation for just over 1 year. He has made steady progress towards our goal of him returning to his home. The entire staff of employees and volunteers at the LISVH have been truly outstanding. We have engaged with the staff across the entire facility from admissions, nursing/medical, laundry services, therapy, security, janitorial, food services, front desk and others who all continue to make Dad's stay a pleasurable experience. The Unit 3B staff, where my Dad resides, are very professional and personable. He has built positive personal relationships with many staff members across the facility. My Dad feels safe and well cared for at the LISVH. From my first hand daily visits with my Dad, I can attest that all the veteran residents are always treated with honor, respect, and dignity. We are thankful to be able to obtain the outstanding support services at the LISVH that all our veterans deserve. Thanks to everyone at the LISVH for their dedication and caring service.

My father has been in LI Vets Rehab at Stony Brook for a month. Thanks to the care of a fantastic support team (they treat him like beloved family), he is recovering his strength. He is also enjoying his time, the food, and the warm and welcoming staff and the multiple, daily, opportunities to engage in activities (full symphony orchestra there on Wednesday, bagpipe concert Thursday, Irish music concert today, PLUS Bingo, PT, OT, speech therapy, etc.). Fortunately, my dad had/has received exemplar care at Stony Brook University Hospital (his 5th visit - we've had ample opportunity to get to know many of the supportive staff. Director Carol Gomes - thank YOU!). My father has also been a frequent daytime guest with LIVets daycare program. Five, sometimes six days a week, since July, 2022, dad has enjoyed his days at the LIVA Daycare Center. Lead by Jean Brand & Dan, and a supportive team of emphatic professionals, all wereconstant in their care. 5 /6 days a week, six hour care, physical and emotional and mental support, shared by highly skilled professional staff. Each day he was greeted at the door with smiles, (masks offered if/as needed) and warm welcomes from staff. As the LIVA rehab is adjacent to the Daycare facility, staff often stops by and visits dad in his room. He hopes to return once his rehab complete. LIVA was our family's first, and only choice, after my dad's stroke. Transitioned to short-term rehab has been fluid. Dad is again comforted by the company of his peers, supported by another terrific group of welcoming staff. A blessing. With appreciation, my dad is father to 10. He has many visitors. I'm usually there 8:30am and thanks to Vanessa, and, or Amazing Amanda, dad is enjoying his breakfast, a clean room, and change of cloths. He looks forward to his day of activities. We were/are (thanks to Rehab floor manager, Jolene Knight and team) able to take dad out for day/s, meals, celebrations with the family. Dad (and family) well prepared, by Diane Donion, Lisa C., Sheila Booker (?), Kristina and Wayne, LPN Lauren, amazing Amanda, Jackie, Vivian (and so many others, apologies if I've missed staff name/s) dad had an escort to my car, help loading (and when we returned) plenty of healthy beverages, and lots of smiles and best wishes. It is a joy to know that our heroes are so well cared for. Having visited other like facilities (well, they aren't "like" as there is just no comparison) grateful for my father's health, this exemplar support at a time most needed. Residents, all, especially my 94-years-young dad, are well able to maintain their dignity and their spirits. Director Sganga, how you find/found these wonderful people, well, bless you. Such a warm, welcoming environment, a home, for a short while, or the long term. What better environment for my dad, our veterans. Grateful. Thank you for YOUR service. Thank you for honoring, supporting, caring for, and welcoming, our heroes when they are in need. Thank you. Thank you all.

I cannot begin to express the kindness and wonderful care that both my parents have had while residing at Long Island State Veterans Home. "Home" being the key word in its title. When my 97 year old dad came here in his final days of his life, I encountered nothing but concerned, compassionate professionals, from the Administration, the doctors , nursing staff and aides down to the front desk. When dad was failing the doctors explained his condition in a sympathetic manner and my concerns were meet with compassion. It made it easier to know that dad , bring a WWII hero , was still being honored in his final days. My mom has since been here for two months after having a hip fracture to receive acute rehabilitation. She has been provided with the same friendly, kind , professional staff that this home provides. OT and PT have been an extensive part of her day. CJ and Wayne have walked me through every step of her care each day while getting my mom back on her feet. Regina , the social worker on mom's case has not dropped the ball once. She has called and made me aware of my mom's needs even up to her date of discharge. Every medical issues that needed to be addressed was explained and a plan was put in place. Dr Fermo and his colleagues are compassionate professionals. Thank you to all, especially those I have not mentioned, so many play a roll in this outstanding "home' for our veterans and their families. All working in Units 1B and 2A are to be commended for their hard work that is not easy. True angels !!
