I was here for short-term rehab. The nursing staff and aides were professional, personable and welcomed helping me when needed. Family was included in developing my care plan. Physical therapy responded adequatically to my needs. I freely walked around the care center as my independent walking with the walker increased. More frequent attention from housekeeping to the patients rooms; garbage emptied, etc, needed. Food service has menu items for that day which you may choose from and submit to the kitchen. Favorable good food. Snacks are available from the desk staff upon request. I had a positive experience for the short time there and would return.

If there are any RN's looking to work at Valley West, I highly recommend it. The management team is attentive to associate needs. I am speaking from experience. They will also work with training you to become skilled in long term care. They have two different units- long term and skilled. The nurses work 12 hour shift. The company also has tuition reimbursement!

Call light response is sometimes nonexistent, 2-3 hours. When having to do Physical and Occupational Therapy with a need for high dose of pain medications, that was a real problem. My performance in therapy was really good when the pain was managed, but that rarely happened. The staff was good at helping you keep track of your possessions. Communication among employees is good. All employees, no matter their position were willing to do any assistance that a patient needed. That really impressed me. The staff are all pleasant, very hard workers, and compassionate. The beds were comfortable and bed linens were soft, cosy, and appeared to be of good quality. The food was good, but I didn't see a menu for 2 days and no one inquired about any special diet I was on, required or not. Did not always get exactly what I ordered, but the kitchen would add in the nutritional foods I had left out on choosing. Beverages seem to be limited. And notable is the fact that my paperwork stated I have a diagnosis of diabetes and kitchen did not meet with me to discuss the diabetes choices in the menu. Btw, I am not diabetic. I was looking forward to joining others in dining room for meals and activities throughout. I was unable to due to the lack of pain management. The support of the therapists was great and wish I could take them with me on my journey through home health. The managers were all down to earth and. easy to talk to. There are a lot of patients there who need a high level of care and are not afraid to ask for it. My empathy and compassion waned while losing sleep over the loud crying and yelling. Had only one good night of sleep between lack of pain relief, and listening to a few needy patients who no one was responding to for 1, 2, maybe 3 hours.

The Care Workers at this facility really made my husband feel at home after being transferred from a much less efficient hospital. I felt that all of the staff did their very best to accommodate Michael and respond according with his every day needs. I was impressed to see so many types of health workers and physical and occupational therapist on his rehab wing at the Center. I also experienced first hand on how well they jumped throught hoops with medical insurance requirements with a smile on their faces. Thank you Valley West....... Daphne & Michael

my partner of 3 years had a hemorrhagic stroke on top of the brainstem early in May. it was severe as far as incapacitating all of his involuntary & voluntary movements. in Riverbend for 4 weeks; then to Portland Vibra (acute brain injury's & tracheotomy specialty recovery house); he was there almost 6 weeks (maximum amt of time allowed there). while he was there, he started to breath totally independent of ventilator. he also began to open his eyes and look around somewhat and keep them open for several hours. Vibra & myself, & his sister & brother n law looked really hard in Eugene area to find level of care required which means a skilled nursing facility. we had no luck even in Salem area while he had to have trache care. so when he came off the ventilator & trache was removed, Valley West agreed to take him because he has funding till 2026 through Medicaid. that was another gray area we ran into trying to place him in a skilled nursing facility-it seems not a lot of them do the specialized trache care, tube feedings, all hygiene for bed ridden individuals for long term care., not to mention physical therapy to relearn how to's & to keep skin in tact. Medicaid pays minimum where the private sector pays almost double that. so I was very grateful for Valley West to agree to take him because it's close to where we live, & he had 0 medical coverage when this happened about 10 wks ago. so this review is on one-time visit- -the very first one that I stopped in to see him when he arrived from Vibra. I was greeted graciously and immediately helped to find him, and I felt really good about the staff that helped me. I stayed for a couple of hours and consequently met the floor staff, the infection nurse, one of the admin ladies, and of course the receptionist at the door. on the way out I met another floor staff-I'm just assuming they are certified as a nurse or close to it. she took time to converse a bit even though it was obvious she was done w/her shift & headed to her car. everyone was exceptionally kind and informative. The atmosphere was pleasant, the buildings are pleasant, his room is a little bit cramped but it stands to reason bc of the current need in general. I was quite impressed in a good way, which at this point in the game, feels monumental. i hope that he continues to improve, and I have faith that if he can, Valley West will provide the necessary care and steps to bring him out of his current 'lockdown' condition. nobody has answers that are solid because there are so many variables with this kind of a stroke. at this point in time, I would rate them up there with both hospitals w/level of care. I sincerely want to believe that, and after the initial attitude I received there, I am going to go with faith hope and love. I'm hoping that I'm right about Valley West, I'm holding faith in my pocket that he will get better with a lot more time, and I just can't stop love. That's about it in a nutshell; I'm going back today and we will see from here forward. he was slightly agitated and tired yesterday; I could see that and feel it. he knew me, he held my hand for a long time. which are definitely steps in right direction...i showed him pictures of his favorite person which is a dog! Staff gave us all time & patience for window I could b there. very courteous & appeared to b aware & in tune w/each other; always a good sign! it takes team to get best results... i have no reason to believe that Valley West would do anything except the best for his recovery after meeting some of people who r directly involved in his long term care as they seem to b familiar w/brain stem stroke induced injuries. it is a huge relief & a ginormous step that brings a very much needed spark to realign myself & his family members to endure months+more of all that is necessary to come back from a mean & vicious stroke. relief to know he is in good hands w/Valley West skilled nursing facility. sincerely, respectfully, Pamela. 8/24

My husband was at Valley West for about a month while he finished his antibiotics through a pic line. They treated he very well. Made sure to get his PT in to get him on the road to home. He had no complaints except that the gravy that put on a lot of their food was way to salty for him. Other than that all went well. The staff was great.
