If I could give 4.5 stars, I would. I’m going to separate my rating into 3 categories. My overall rating could not be a 5 because of the age of the facility and the food, but the staff definitely deserve more than a 5. #1 is Staff at 5+ Stars There are 2 things you couldn’t pay me enough to do #1 is teach, but a very close 2nd is health care worker. My husband was a resident at Northgate for the last 25 months of his life. I spent 2 to 4 hours, of almost every day of those 2+ years at his room in A Unit. So I feel well-qualified to do this review. I think a lot of the reviewers here just get a snapshot of what happens without the context of the everyday life. Residents vary in their needs and demands. From the front office to the nurses and aides to the maintenance staff, there are professional, kind, compassionate people. A lot of them became like family to us. It takes a special kind of person to work in the long term care environment, so the turnover can be high as employees who can’t handle it are culled pretty quickly. It’s easy to understand how those who show up for a full shift everyday can sometimes get overwhelmed. My husband was not interested in many of the activities, but I could see that the activities staff were very caring and always doing their best to get residents involved and entertained. There were a lot of special shows, concerts and themed days, even parades through the halls to entertain the residents and guests. He had several stays in the rehab unit prior to becoming a permanent resident. The physical and occupational therapists were dedicated and did their best to get him in shape to return home when he was able. They were all pleasant and professional. #2 is Housekeeping and maintenance at 4.5 stars The facility is old and needs constant repair and updating. The rooms get a deep cleaning a few times a year. It’s done in a regular rotation with everything being moved out of the room. Unless the regular daily cleaners were off, the trash in the room was emptied at least once a day, sometimes multiple times. The regular cleaners were very conscientious, but they can’t work 24/7 and sometimes subs weren’t so dedicated. Like aides and nurses, they certainly could use more personnel. The laundry staff would come every day to see if he had anything that needed to be washed and to deliver clean clothes. They were always very friendly and clothing was cleaned regularly. #3 is Food at 3.5 stars Unfortunately, institutional food is difficult to prepare to everyone’s taste and to keep at a palatable temperature. To the defense of the food service staff, who do their best with what they have to work with, the kitchen is in serious need of updating. I don’t know how they manage to do the work they need to do. My husband was not too picky an eater, so he just took what they gave him. I know that the kitchen tried their best to accommodate people who rejected the regular meals, with soup and sandwiches. There was a hot dinner at lunch time on most days. I was there on most days at that mealtime, and I can attest that, for some reason, everyone needed attention, my husband included, and put their lights on right about the time the meal trays showed up, so it would be all hands on deck, running around to attend to urgent needs, while still trying to distribute trays in a timely manner. Overall rating 4.5 Remember most of the residents are elderly and ill, and some are not very patient or cooperative. It is sad that I saw some who never had visitors, but there were many who had regular visitors. It makes a big difference in their attitude. Some can be verbally abusive to staff, but I always saw them handle it the best they could without being unprofessional. Nope, you couldn’t pay me enough to do that job!

My mother was placed here in January after a hospital bout and stayed a little more than a week. The facility was well lit, clean, and had things going on. I want to commend the staff for their care and professionalism. Each person that cared for her, from admissions, finance, social work, nursing staff, PT was courteous, professional and respectful. The staff seems to have respect for each other and will help each other. These are difficult jobs, and I am sorry to say my mother was not a pleasant or compliant patient, yet her care and the facility were professional and humane.

I came here for rehab recently and had a wonderful experience. Everyone from the administration down to dietary was friendly and helpful. Therapy department truly helped me get home safely to be with my family! Nursing staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this facility to others! Thanks Northgate!

My wife is a permanent resident. Four the most part the staff is great, however they are short staffed too often. I see aids sitting around on their phones. Floors and common areas always need to be cleaned but nobody does it. The menu is horrible. Breakfast is ok but lunch and dinner are to repetitive sandwiches all the time. The food is cold by the time my wife gets it so I take it to the vending room and heat it up.

I thought that I would hate rehab, I was very surprised how awesome the staff was. Judy in E unit went above and beyond to help me acclimate. The nurses were all awesome, and the suport staff was the best! PT and OT really helped me! The food was not the best, my room was always clean, and if you have to go to rehab this is a very good choice!

I placed my wife at Northgate for 9 days of respite for myself, her primary caregiver. The process of getting her admitted went very smoothly. Jessica in admissions was very responsive throughout; from my first visit to the facility through completing the paperwork. Everyone I had contact with at the facility during the drop off and pickup processes was professional, thorough, and helpful. Knowing she was in good hands made my respite more relaxing. I highly recommend respite time and Northgate for caregivers and their loved ones.

What an amazing staff! My father left this world with his dignity. We were upset when we knew home care was no longer an option and with all the bad reviews about the health care facilities, we had to put our faith that it would be ok. My father was there for about 3 weeks and I cannot say enough about this place and the care he received. It is an older facility but I looked beyond that because they keep it clean and of how they treated my father and my family. He was always clean. They even shaved him and cut his hair. The staff was always there to give us a hug and answer any questions we had. My father was an Air Force Veteran and when he passed, they draped a beautiful flag over him, played Taps and the staff walked us all out to honor him. I encourage anyone that is considering this place and is hesitant, to sit with someone there and ask them any questions. They were more than happy to answer all my questions and concerns. Keep in mind that no facility can have a staff member for every patient but they do take great care of each and every one of them. They genuinely care for their patients and Thank You will never be enough for taking amazing care of my father.

Place looks nice, but is a dump in terms of staff. The first night my grandmother was there it took them hours to get her pain medicine, despite the sign on the wall saying they will take your claims seriously. You hit the call button, expect it to take an hour before someone responds. The cherry on top was my grandmother had a low blood pressure, so what do they do give her, her amed that lowers her blood Pressure! My mother had her taken out and taken to the hospital (the 3rd person in the time she was there)where she ended up passing 10 days later. Called about the little bit of property that was left and they had to "find it". Someone was suppose to call back but of course did not. Good thing we took anything of importance when see left.

i spend "only"6 Days there,thank Goodness.it has been one of the worst Places i ever had to go to.the PT People were nice,but some of the Staff were rude and not helpful,the Nurses were ok,food was discusting.i don't want to complain more,but i could say alot more about late Meds,Help not showing up for hours when you need help,wet Bed because they locked the Bathroom Door my first night i was there and my Bed was soaked in the Morning .i just came out of the Hospital where i was taken with Legionaires Disease.

My experience with Northgate Nursing Home has been a mixture of gratitude and reflection. The facility provides a calm, safe environment where the staff are compassionate and attentive to the residents' needs. Though it’s never easy to see a loved one transition to long-term care, the team here strives to make it as comforting as possible. While the situation itself can be hard, knowing my mother is in capable and caring hands offers a great deal of comfort. I would especially like to give a shout out to Shannon, Mary, Myling, and Cierra. They have not only done their best to care for my mother, but they have also welcomed my dad, a daily visitor to the home, and made him feel seen and heard. I truly appreciate all of the staff at Northgate Facility.

My Aunt is in the rehab section, very run down not very clean needs repair and painting. The staff is for most part friendly and helpful but the care they give my aunt could be better take two long to two answer her call light, take her to the bathroom. leave her at meal time in her room does not help at all to open her milk or fix her coffee or check to see if she is eating. After eating she needs to go to the bathroom then laid down it takes so long before the aide comes to take care of her that my aunts almost in tears . 'm very disappointed in the care they give her!

To fully understand this review, read to the end. What you need to know. My stay here (Northgate) was approximately 14 days and observations noted. All these facilities are partially monitored by management and others. E.g. .. A call button is pressed, light at nurse station and doorway of call button pressed is visibly on. Employee (Aide) enters the room ASAP and turns it off. Then, you are asked "what do you need"? The time stamp from the time the button is pressed to the time the aide turns it off is logged and later into a report. That response time is how all facilities are measured. Note that there is nothing that ensures the Aide will take action to your request. With that understood, my Northgate evaluation. I will start with two assessments. This facility at the time I selected was 2.6. I selected it as a review of these facilities years prior had Northgate at 4.6. In conversation with others. 5.0. Assessment 1 (Dayshift) Amazing staff going well beyond expectations. Strong supervision providing support as required. Food always comes out barely warm. Overall dayshift rating 4.8 Assessment 2 (Nightshift) Some nurses are dedicated to their profession and take a sincere effort to fulfill your needs. Unfortunately, some, not so much. Most Aids I encountered that are pertinently nights take advantage of nurses and minimal supervision. Approximate 30(+) minute wait times as I recall. Had one response to help button an unbelievable 2.5 hours. Can only thank God some dayshift nurses and aides worked over (or covered) into nights. Over all nightshift rating 1.5 Overall facility rating 3.15 Lastly. At the time of this evaluation, most facilities have the same issues. Finding quality (professional) people to hire. Retention. To keep facilities running, a hiring based on "Fog a mirror" must be implemented. I want to sincerely thank a few nurses, aides, my PT/OT staff for an amazing turnaround in my healing efforts. No names to protect those I refer to. However, you know who you are !!!

My grandparents were very well cared for on the CARE/Dementia unit. The programming is wonderful, the staff genuinely cared for the residents. We had a concern here and there, but it was always addressed in a timely manner. Both cleaned their plates at meal time. Both passed away within the months of each other under Hospice care, my Gram on Jeannies unit. I can't say enough about the staff there either, excellent care and communication. These are difficult times in Healthcare.. rules are made for them by NYS and they did the best with what they were dealt. I also believe the family has responsibility too..visit (as allowed) , communicate concerns, don't look for perfection.. it doesn't exist. You don't get 1:1 care anywhere you go. I truly felt the Northgate staff genuinely tried their best, we didn't want to place them, but were very pleased with our choice.

Mom was admitted and we are happy with the cleanliness and nice sitting areas and library. However, Mom is very dissapointed with the cable package and the fact there is no local broadcast channels. She was an avid fan of the HALLMARK channedl and the old movie channel, however, these are not available. No broadcast for the fund sitcoms and series, just lots of sports, reality shows and PG rated stuff..unsettling to her. She is 96 and TV is a great passtime for her. No thought was given to the content of the cable package they charge 30 dollars a month for...

Both of my parents were/are there. Their dementia unit is second to none! The nursing staff is compassionate and they love the patients. They do the ladies nails, sing, play ball, bingo...not to mention taking care of the not so fun stuff involved with elderly dementia patients.
