The staff at Garden Terrace are outstanding. They really work to address individual resident needs. Simple things like shifting where the nurse's station is, to positioning residents for compatibility make a huge difference. Activities range from simple to more complex and are both creative and well executed. Staff warmly welcome visitors. Also, staff make a difference in the general appearance of the place - like the carefully framed resident art in the restroom or the gorgeous flowers planted around the terrace. My brother seems to be adjusting well, something that is never easy. Thank you all!

There have been so many times that I should have written a positive review. Every staff member on my husbands current and former units have been incredibly accommodating, patient and kind to him and to me. The nursing staff has been responsive to any concerns I might have and quick to inform me of any special issues or needs regarding my husband.Management and business offices are very accessible and can be extremely helpful with any questions I might have. They coordinate well with outside services, such as the nearby hospital, outpatient clinics, and hospice. I visit frequently and have never known the staff to be anything but gentle, friendly and quickly accommodating. I realize that these patients requiring memory care can be especially challenging and resistant to care, but the staff is well -trained in working with the special needs of this population. Support services, such as dietary, laundry, recreation, salon, transportation, and housekeeping offer high-quality services. I am especially grateful that I am quickly notified of any changes or concerns regarding my husband and receive quick responses to any of my questions.

this is my wife's 4th nursing home and some of the things that are different and better at this place is the executive directors office is just inside the front door and ithe door to this office is always open .another plus is they have a lot of activities for residents like bingo and concerts etc. another plus is the staff like Luke when he's working to help my wife get in or out of bed he understands what she needs as he does with other residents of this place and during meal times he helps feed multiple residents who can't feed themselves

I was there to visit Georgia Long, The staff was very friendly and caring, they watch patients very careful, they give patients their undecided attention. They take time to explain to patients the importance of using their walkers because they care about them and want to keep them safe from falling. My sister is at this facility, the food is great, and overall the care is good, my two complaints are that the staff parks in the visitor areas leaving the real visitors no option than to park far away from the main entrance, second one is that the staff constantly on their phones, not just in the area where my sister is, but as you walk around you can see them on their phones all the time. I’m a teacher and when I’m working I’m not allowed to use my phone. They should implement a rule about this.

If you have a relative with dementia, then this is the place you'll want them to call home. The nurses and administrators here are experts in helping those with dementia maintain and improve their cognitive abilities. There are too many programs to mention them all here. I saw my mother's condition radically improve a short time after arriving at this facility. That was no accident. When she first arrived, she was struggling to get around and to speak; that had been going on for several months at home. But everything started to change soon after arriving at Garden Terrace, undoubtedly because of the programs and various types of therapy offered at Garden Terrace. Mom will always need help getting around; that's to be expected. There is no cure for dementia. But the folks at Garden Terrace at Overland Park have brought Mom back to a place where she is able to communicate effectively, joke around, and enjoy life again with family and others. The programs and therapy that they offer at Garden Terrace have really made a difference for Mom, both physically and mentally.

This was the first time we had been there but so far its one of the better facility that we have been in within the last 2 urs. I would like to acknowledge Penny, the Activities Director and all her wonderful staff for their hard work this past weekend in planning and implementing the very successful Easter egg hunt! I attended, with my 6 year old twin granddaughters while visiting a loved one and must commend the activities team on a fun and well organized activity. Due to the weather, staff did not know until the last moment if the event would take place outside or indoors, but everything was ready to go at the exact time announced and the outside terrace area was filled with an abundance of brightly colored eggs, engaging crafts and games, snacks, age appropriate prizes and lots of eager young egg hunters. The stuffed animal prizes were a huge hit with my granddaughters. Residents either watched in the comfort of the dining area or bundled up and ventured outside and enjoyed observing the festivities. The Easter bunny was a wonderful addition and was very willing to pose for multiple photos! Great job activities staff!

I would highly recommend Garden Terrace to anyone looking for a long-term care for their loved ones! My dad spend there two months until his passing. I was visiting him every day and had plenty of opportunities to observe the staff interactions with the residents. I probably spent more then sixty hours total with my dad, and i always felt welcomed, was always encouraged to come and stay. In all that time I never saw a staff member being impatient with a resident. They would stop by residents just to say hi, to ask if a resident is comfortable, if he needs anything. I saw the staff members being friendly to each other and the patients, laughing and joking. Even in a difficult ward of patients with dementia, the mood was pleasant and light. It was very important for my dad that he would get to know the staff, to learn their names. It's a huge benefit that the staff didn't rotate! The rooms and the common areas are begging for a renovation, although I understand how hard it is to do while the building is being occupied. However, everything is clean. My dad didn't care much about the color of the walls or ceiling tiles. I almost don't want to name anybody there, because everyone was so good to us, but the amazing receptionist Kristi, who remembers everyones name, with her adorable tiny dog; Janie, who guided us through the admission; Paul, the aid, who was so patient taking care of my dad, made us feel better about difficult decisions we had to make. Thank you!

This facility is full of 5-star staff! From the executive director (Debbie), to business (Kim), to admissions (Janie), to nursing (Lilly), to social work (Caidyn), to activities (Bailey), to facilities (Mills), to my step-father's hall nurse (Ann), and on and on. We had a very poor experience at another facility. Although their building was newer, their staff was poorly-trained and did not understand dementia and memory care. We are so thankful for Garden Terrace at Overland Park!

My 95 year old father was being released from the hospital and was too weak to go back to assisted living, so we scrambled to find a long term facility for him. While touring Garden Terrace, we were impressed with the amount of staff on the floor, so we felt good about our decision. Unfortunately, Dad quickly took a turn for the worse. He moved into Garden Terrace (straight from the hospital) on a Friday, and on Saturday morning we got a call that we should get there fast, as his oxygen level was very low. Dad passed away Sunday morning. Everyone in my family were so impressed with the nurses, as well as the social worker, at Garden Terrace. They were so kind, answered our questions, and offered to call in Hospice. Though my dad's stay there was very short because of his ongoing health conditions, I couldn't have been happier with the staff and treatment he got at the end of his life. For that, I am grateful.

Garden Terrace has given me true peace of mind knowing that my father is in such good hands. I have never witnessed before at other facilities such full coverage and constant care. The nurses and staff keep you informed with all changes and concerns in everything from eating to weight, and new concerning health issues. They are on top of the steps they are going to use to treat any issues before they even give you a call or new report. I feel truly blessed to have such an amazing group of wonderful people the nurses, and an all caring on staff doctor , Dr. Hodges. The nurses are exceptional, truly caring , kind, and they become part of your family. Thank you to all the wonderful people that I have encountered at Garden Terrace. It takes very special people to work in an environment with such difficulties and disabilities with their patients. I call them angels and always thank them for their calling and choosing to care for the elderly. Thanks again for giving me such peace and comfort!!

While the building is a bit older and in need of certain touch-ups here and there, the care received is top notch. My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in August 2018 and by November 2019, he required long-term care. When we were able to get placement at Garden Terrace, my dad's hospice nurses remarked that they were very pleased and felt he would do well. They also noted that the staff was excellent. I reserved judgement until I could experience things for myself but, they weren't lying. The staff on the Boston Ivy Blvd. unit were fabulous. Nurses Harriet and Joey were amazing and I can't begin to sing the praises of CNA's Tommy, Tony, and Eddie highly enough. All of the staff genuinely care for their patients and make family feel cared for as well. It also speaks volumes for Garden Terrace that they have retained staff for years as turnover rates are traditionally higher in long-term care (for understandable reasons). At least 2 of the staff members on my dad's unit have been with Garden Terrace for over 10 years and one for 20 years. I am relieved that my dad is now at peace and free from the chains of Alzheimer's but, I will truly miss everyone at Garden Terrace. Christianna in admissions was my first interaction with the facility and I was impressed right away by her compassion. Karen in social work is an angel too. I felt so supported and knew my dad was in good hands during his brief time here. No one EVER wants their loved one to need long-term care but, if or when that is necessary it makes a world of difference to be surrounded by caring staff. I will even miss some of the residents as they'd stolen my heart. I will have to visit when I can just to thank everyone again for making a terrible situation (dad's Alzheimer's) that much easier to bear thanks to the love and care he received.

There were about 25 employees following a deceased person that had past away. They stayed outside til the deceased person was in the vehicle. Garden Terrace has been a godsend for our family. When my Dad was diagnosed with dementia/ Alzheimers and living alone or with family was not an option, I feared what might await him in a facility. He had a few negative stays at other facilities. Our family quickly learned that many facilities might call themselves "memory care" but, lacked the training and expertise required to be a true Alzheimer's care facility. The staff at Garden Terrace from the skilled administrators, the "true saint" nurses, the talented music and art therapists, the amazing social workers, to the diligent maintenance crew are all genuinely kind and well trained individuals. They exemplify everything that a facility specializing in the critical and complicated world of Alzheimer's disease should be. They are a huge support system for our family. It is a true gift to know my Dad is in a loving, safe, nurturing environment.

My sister Donna L. Branston was a patient at Garden Terrace. She died almost one year ago, which is why I am writing this review. She received the best care while she was there. The Art Director got her interested in painting. She was so proud of her work and enjoyed it so much. The staff - amazing. From the Nurses,to the social workers and food service. How employee's can continue day after day being kind, patient and as caring as this group of people were to my sister continues to amaze me. She loved her time outside in the garden. I could not believe how warm and sunny if felt inside. The cleaning staff also great. If you have a loved one who needs this type of care, this is the place. You can then go home and sleep at night knowing they are cared for and safe. Thanks to all.
