My mom relocated from her home in Virginia to Helen Greenhouse Manor at Manor Park in 2023 following my stepfather's death. Mom went through a time of grief but thanks to the wonderful people who work and live in Helen Greenhouse Manor she made it through that difficult season and now loves the many people she knows at Helen Greenhouse Manor. I'm so grateful for how friendly and helpful the people are who work there and the residents are so that my mom feels right at home.

My 69-year old mother fell and broke her hip in April, and she completed approximately 3 weeks in Manor Park’s Skilled Nursing Rehab Unit and then transitioned into Assisted Living where she stayed for another 3 weeks. Prior to admitting my mom to Manor Park Rehab, she completed 3 weeks of rehab at Stanton County Swing Bed Hospital (which was amazing). Once she moved to Manor Park, she really started going downhill. During the 3 weeks in rehab, she was moved to THREE different rooms, and the 3rd room was a room without a TV, where they advised we could purchase a small TV to put in her temporary room, but it would have to sit in quarantine for 3 days before it could go into her room. She had recurring UTIs, multiple falls, troublesome hallucinations and delusions, bouts of anxiety and many, many tears. I had to constantly call and ask the staff to charge her phone, and during one Facetime call, I noticed that some bags and boxes I had delivered were still sitting on the floor in her apartment, unpacked. I’m sure the staff is trying their best, but they seemed burnt out, overworked, and tired. When I informed the Administrator that we would be moving my mom out, there was no why or how can we do better, just a give me a date when you will have movers and we can have you meet us at the loading dock and we will move her belongings out. Our expectations were not super high being that it is assisted living and not home, but Manor Park still managed to fall short in every way. It just never felt right, and was definitely not the right fit for my mom. I cannot speak to how they performed pre COVID-19, or how their Assisted Living meets the expectations of residents needing very little assistance, but for someone needing full assistance it was definitely not enough. COVID-19 has put some unusual restrictions in place for facilities and it does not seem to be going away anytime soon. In order to survive the times, these facilities need to adapt and think outside of the box or isolation will end up killing more of our elderly than the coronavirus will. Manor Park so far as I have seen, is not doing a very good job of this, and I would think twice before putting my loved one here. When there is very little competition, the best doesn’t have to try very hard.
