Good care food and medical care good.

I recently helped a friend of 62 years move in to Kingsley Manor after a very sour experience at another facility. He is absolutely delighted to be surrounded by so many caring people, it's amenities, activities and the stimulating conversations with his fellow residents. The facility has the feel of resort and the dining experience accentuates that. The administrative staff went above and beyond in facilitating my friend's move. Thank you.......

I would give the Kingsley Manor 5 of 5 but I believe there is always room for improvement. KM is damn close to perfection and they are always looking for ways to improve! My mother moved into KM nearly two years ago. I am comforted knowing that she is safe and that her needs, both medical and physical, are monitored and responded to around the clock. I am pleased too, that her social and emotional needs are also nurtured through her interactions with the incredible residents and staff at KM. KM itself is steeped in the drama, history and extravagance that was Hollywood in its hay-day. The red-brick buildings juxtaposed to the adobe-esque buildings, surrounded by gorgeous gardens that are maintained at an exceptional level. There is an abundance of natural life - flowers, birds, butterflies and even resident squirrels - in these easily accessible and enviable grounds. One of my favorite elements of the romantic buildings are the 'Hitchcock-esque' elevators that provoke an era of times gone by! As well, the incredible roof-top terraces that provide stunning views of the Los Angeles valley and surrounding San Gabriel Mountains, including the Hollywood Hills, Griffith Observatory, Mt Baldy and the glistening skyscrapers of Downtown LA. KM offers modest guest accommodation and access to the fabulous dining room facilities (and all activities) to visitors at very reasonable rates. The convenience of residing on the premises allows residents and loved ones to maximize their time together and focus on enjoying each other's company while also providing private spaces when needed. The staff who maintain KM and serve its residents are amazing! From the dishwashers, to the gardeners, to maintenance, to housekeeping, to the kitchen staff, to the caregivers, to the administration...everyone is friendly, caring and helpful...just as you might expect if you were visiting a 5 star hotel! As well, there is always something to whet the intellectual appetite including external talent invited in, including musical groups (most recently the Karl Marsh Quartet...what an absolute treat), current and classic movies, from The Holdovers and Oppenheimer to Cabaret and The Easter Parade. As well there are resident-lead activities including literature, movie, political or travel discussions, writing clubs, script reading etc; the list goes on. During my most recent visit, I enjoyed a professionally produced fashion show where interested residents donned fabulous clothes and strutted their stuff down a red-carpeted runway! What a memorable, fun and entertaining evening that was! As well, KM acknowledges a variety of spiritual/religious beliefs and practices. Its residents come from all walks of life and varied cultural backgrounds. Everyone is accepted and welcomed with tolerance and open arms! This makes for such interesting discussions and encourages a broadening of perspectives! What a delight! My experience with residential living is limited but I am certain that KM is among the best! My mother and I are so pleased and feel lucky that she has taken residency here! She is happy, content, and enjoying life as she approaches each day in comfort and safety, mingling with her new friends or lounging in her well appointed apartment...what more could anyone could one hope for? Thank you Kingsley Manor for helping to make my mother's twilight years purposeful, memorable and pleasurable! We are forever grateful!

Leaving your beautiful home where you lived happily and independently for 35+ years is emotional. Now imagine that the move is to an assisted living facility because you have Parkinson's and your doctors and friends are concerned about the increasingly frequent falls you have sustained. That transition is almost certain to be traumatic, right? But Kingsley Manor is a very special assisted living facility. Thanks to Jeannie and her team, my dear friend's move to Kingsley was amazingly smooth and he is now experiencing senior living at its best. Jeannie, who runs Kingsley with enthusiasm and a deep knowledge of her community and every resident, is a true angel. My husband and I know about this retirement community because 3 of my mom's friends lived there. Before my mom passed away a number of years ago, we would often stay for a meal, where their choices of entrees are varied and always delicious, or my mom would visit with her friends in their rooms. Often, she joined them on the rooftop lounge and enjoyed the spectacular view spanning LA, from the Hollywood Hills through downtown, then all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Our friend was initially looking at retirement communities on the west side of LA because that's where his home was located. However, once Jeannie met with us and took our friend on a tour (from the grassy outside grounds to the movie room to the exercise room and hair stylist room, etc ) and invited him to stay for a few meals and participate in one of their activities, he chose Kingsley over the other assisted living communities he had visited. Jeannie continues to be an asset to my friend. She promptly addressed every challenge during our friend's move and when he misplaced his room key the first day, it was replaced by maintenance right away. Jeannie runs Kingsley a bit like a fancy hotel!!! Our friend has now made a couple of friends who he meets for meals. Everyone he has met is happy to be residing at Kingsley and they all appreciate the amazing professionalism and friendliness of Jeannie and her staff. Jeannie has been working at Kingsley for over 3 decades, and our friend said she is beloved by the residents. As you can tell, we are all big fans of Kingsley and highly recommend it as the perfect choice for assisted living.

The food here is very good! Great variety, delicious home made soups, excellent coffee, lovely atmosphere. I like that they have table clothes and linens for every meal. They have surprise events like live sushi stations in the dining room. The chef comes around to tables occasionally to introduce himself and receive feedback. It's not restaurant food, which would be too salty and heavy for every day eating, but it's really nice stuff. I'm at Kingsley 3-4 times a week as an independent assistant and if my mother lived in CA, I would send her here.

Kingsley Manor has been beyond wonderful for my Mom! She had been at one of the large corporate retirement communities for a couple of years. While that experience was decent, it lacked the caring for the residents we hoped for. We then ran into a friend - Grant Edelstone - that had spent decades running senior facilities. Grant recommended Kingsley Manor and he put us in touch with Jean Weber. Jean has been beyond tremendous in every way! She set up a tour. We ate a surprisingly tasty and delicious lunch, and we dined with some residents. Based on the tour, Jean's excellent and kind guidance and the warmth of the facility, we immediately knew this was the place! We were also impressed that Jean and many other staff members have been there for decades - that was a good sign for us that they treat their staff well. Many facilities cannot keep their staff. Kingsley Manor is different which was a deciding factor. Jean made the whole moving in process easy including recommending reliable movers. My Mom has been there for 6 months now. We feel so grateful for Kingsley Manor, Jean Weber and the whole staff that Mom is in such a beautiful and caring home. Thank You so much! Heidi Wexl

My parents have been living at Kingsley Manor for over a year and they are incredibly happy there. The apartments are roomy and the food is excellent, but most importantly they adore the staff, who are all helpful and friendly. There are lots of activities both on and off campus, and the outdoor spaces (a rooftop patio and gardens) are really lovely.

Kingsley Manor is a gem and I enjoy living here. This is a senior residence like no other you may know of. Traditional brick buildings, beautiful gardens, spacious grounds and an ambiance of Old Hollywood — plus the historic Hollywood sign can be seen from our rooftop terraces. Friendly, caring staff; good food and creative Chef; activities galore - fitness class every day of the week, art appreciation, travelogues, news discussions, cultural celebrations, outings to eateries, stores and museums.
February 2024
Kingsley Manor is an almost five-acre compound filled with delight. Its secure perimeter provides a safe haven for residents to enjoy the variety of blooming roses and other flowering plants. The sixth-floor common areas host a movie theater, family room, and large rooms for social gatherings. Spectacular views of the 'Hollywood' sign and Griffith Observatory are enjoyed from the north deck, while the south deck treats viewers to LA's downtown skyscrapers. Originally constructed as a retirement retreat for church members, Kingsley Manor features a chapel equipped with a magnificent pipe organ offering a spiritual and meditative space of renewal. The head chef and dining hall staff offer nutritious menus with several offerings for each meal, augmented by the 'always available' items, where residents enjoy delicious meals while socializing with each other. A wide variety of activities are offered, including exercise classes, educational and craft programs, a community library, outings to parks, museums and cultural events. These are only some of the highlights that distinguish Kingsley Manor as a caring, safe, invigorating senior community.

I have lived at Kingsley Manor for three years and I love it here! What is not to like? My little apartment is charming, the food is wonderful, the staff is helpful, and the other residents are terrific. I can honestly say that I have met as many interesting people here in the past three years, as I met in the eighty two years that preceded them. I have made good friends. Kingsley's dynamic staff offers great entertainment and educational programs, field trips to museums and other cultural events, and advice with physical and psychological problems. As I said, what is not to like?

We are very pleased to be living at Kingsley Manor. The staff is wonderful and attentive. All efforts are made to take care of residents; safety, dining, activities and more.

My move-in date was February 2020 and I am delighted to live her, as I expected to feel. The first attraction for m'e was the fact that I could keep my little dog with me. Secondly, I valued the fact that I would be able to work on a very important project: the writing a translation of a book I published in Sweden '' now written in English . Very stimulating to me is he multitude of residents who like me come from richly varied backgrounds and fields of education. The multitude in cultural backgrounds fascinate me and as an immigrant I learn a lot of ways to approach many new situations and also introduce new ways of training. In my ten years of employment at USC EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING CENTER, I had the opportunity of learning how to appreciating allowing people to be expressive and creative in solving conflict and other challenges. That is not always a given, but at Kingsley I have found it easy for me to enjoy myself and easily make friends. Friendly atmosphere and gardens for us the HUMANS. The food is superb and varied and healthful! Friendly servers and very healthful dining ambiance, The Covid 19 interruption of smooth sailing was handled with great skill and as residents , as one resident, I felt well protected. In other words: I sure like it here ! I am 92 years old and look forward to living here a lot longer, thank you God and Kingsley Manor!
January 2024
I arrived here less than a month ago and I am thoroughly enjoying living here. The best and most important part of KIngsley Manor are the staff members! From the front desk, to the dining staff, cleaning staff and, of course, the people from maintenance, and whomever I forget at the moment, the Kingsley staff members are exceptional.! I love the top terraces on Leitzell Hall which right now are little too cool to stay on. I almost always enjoy the food and have congratulated the head chef on several dishes. I have to get used to spending three meals a day with so many people since I've lived alone for at least 25 years. It will take time to adjust to that. Kingsley Hall is only 7-10 minutes by car from one one part of my family, and sometimes one hour from my younger daughter on the Westside. I found to my surprise that I can walk in the neighborhood for my daily one half hour, and that there is a general market in the same block where you can buy practically everything. So much for my first impressions.

I like living at Kingsley, the staff and all the people who work here are lovely and helpful. They are always available and it makes us feel safe. I enjoy participating in the many and varied programs. I go to art appreciation, behind the authors, love writing workshop, and whatever the afternoon cultural and snack program there is on Tuesdays, Travel review, politics and socials, lunch out, wine and cheese ,all exercise programs, all seven of them especially the aerobics. I like being part of the Broadcaster program and am part of the the Sages and Seekers. The food is wonderful. I love the specials everyday. I truly appreciate all that the staff provides, you never are without something to do, I really enjoy it here. The results of all the hard work the staff does is wonderful and I appreciate there creativeness especially Michael Essex, he is so enthusiastic. I can't say enough about Kingsley, it's great.

I've lived here over three years in this lovely classy grande dame that resembles UCLA's brick Romanesque. A charming well kept bastion of the old Hollywood, movies and tv shows often film here. Three levels of care for those over 55 from independent to skilled care; this place bears witness thattheres no reason not to live and enjoy living. This review is very old-things are different 2024-Caveat emperat

I worked at this place for about 2.5 years and I would like to work again but I can't get back to America as I lost my Green Card. I stayed outside of USA for too long. When I was ready to go back to the USA, when my father recovered from melanoma skin cancer, it was too late. Nobody at the US embassies cared about me. I miss everyone from KM (the staff and residents).

my experience here has been pretty mixed. My mom has been living there for over 10 years now, and she seems to enjoy the atmosphere. She enjoys a majority of the food, and loves the staff..... Except for two nurses... But other than that, she seems ok...

My mother has been a resident here in Kingsley Manor for almost a year. It took two years of searching for the best senior residence for my mom, but we're glad we didn't settle for any less. Kingsley Manor is a prime example of when beauty, intelligence, respect, friendship and loving-kindness are brought together on behalf of any community -- in this case, a senior residence. The staff of Kingsley Manor have come together to provide a level of holistic care that I can't recall ever seeing since my days in private school or university. Each one of the senior residents -- whether they be in independent living or in skilled nursing -- are integrated into the activities that Kingsley offers so that their bodies and minds are well nurtured. My mother has a group of friends that meet every day for meals and social activities. Kingsley shows curated films in their theater 3-4 times a week, and Kingsley loves to throw lavish parties and dances for the residents, on average once a week. There are more opportunities for socializing than most of us experience since our college days. Then there are the rooftop gardens, the rose gardens, the library, the plazas, the exquisite architecture, music recitals in the serene chapel, the trips to local museums. Kingsley is a feast for the senses that keeps the minds of its residents curious and active. Also, the food is excellent, the dining room is beautiful, and I always enjoy myself when I can join my mother and her friends for a meal. I'm completely confident that my mother is being cared for by the Kingsley staff in every way. It seems hard to believe that a senior residence like Kingsley exists. I can only suggest checking out Kingsley for yourself.

Our 82 year old mother has lived at Kingsley Manor for 10 months. She loves it! She likes her 2-room apartment with kitchenette and full bathroom (with tub) - she has plenty of room for her sewing machine, computer, and craft table in her 2 rooms. The staff are friendly, competent and caring. The dining hall is a wonderful environment, and she has enjoyed eating and chatting with many different residents from different cultures and all walks of life. She appreciates the history and architecture of Kingsley, and enjoys being able to attend classes and go on trips into the community. We are so happy that she is happy and content there, it is nice to know that she is safe and receiving good care.
