What a wonderful experience I had helping my friend set her dad up at Esplanade in Woodmere New York. Forget about the fact that the facility is gorgeous and well-kept, the hello and smiles you get at reception set the tone for what's next. There seemed to be a nice ratio of men to women that were being cared, paid attention to an even entertained! Steve was wonderful and all of the workers met us with full eye contact asking if we needed anything. Even the simplest thing like taking out some garbage was met with pleasantries. The common room had a beautiful fireplace and a large television with what seemed to be an interactive brain game on it. Some residents played while others chit-chatted with each other or rested. This might sound minor but the Esplanade smelled like nothing which is wonderful it was fresh not smelling of cleaning products or sick people it smelled like life waiting to happen. I can't wait to experience the beautiful outside area I could see from the bedroom window! Overall it was a wonderful experience and that was only one day. 🙂

Not happy my sister in law is there and she’s not doing good , she fell three times and last fall she had a hospital stay after that she went to rehab facility for a month , and it didn’t help ! They didn’t even give us a discount on the for the month she wasn’t there She is now in a wheelchair which she wasn’t when she got there also the staff don’t do their job ! My sister in law clothes are always dirty they don’t change her when she spills things they leave her in dirty clothes!

I cannot recommend Esplanade enough. Hands down the best facility and staff you can ever ask for. My mom was a resident at Esplanade for almost a year, before she passed. This was the best decision I made for mom’s care. A year ago, while mom was in rehab and I realized there was no way she could return home, I started researching and visiting assisted living facilities with memory care. My search was frustrating because I could not find a facility that would accept mom. I was beyond hopeless. Then, one of the Sales Directors at another facility, suggested I try Esplanade, so I called. Within hours I had a call back from Deron who was so kind, professional, and empathetic. I live on the West Coast, so Deron offered to take me on a FaceTime tour of the facility. Then later that week, he gave my friend an in-person tour as well. The deal was sealed without ever having stepped foot in Esplanade. I was just so impressed by everyone including Hindel, and Jessica, who just made this so much easier than I ever could imagine it would be. The day I moved mom from rehab to Esplanade, I was beyond stressed. For the first time, mom did not recognize me. She was confused. The team, including Fabian, were ready to welcome her and even had a picture book of my mom’s home country of Greece, in her unit. Prior to her arrival, I worked with the team to personalize mom’s unit. It felt so good to make it her own. It was such a positive experience. I knew this was the best option for mom, and I couldn’t believe how kind and professional everyone was. Over the months, I was kept informed of mom’s progress and challenges. I always felt like mom was getting the best care by the best professionals, including the physician and psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. When mom needed a higher level of care, she would be sent to the hospital and I was kept informed of her progress. In November, after her longest hospitalization, the difficult decision to start hospice was made. True to form, the Esplanade team rose to the occasion and made the transition effortlessly. Mom hung in there longer than anyone thought she would. As difficult as all of this was, I took comfort in knowing she was being cared for, was comfortable and safe, and not in pain. The team, along with hospice, took great care of mom until the very end. I just wanted to thank and commend everyone at Esplanade for being the caring professionals they are. I can’t begin the express my gratitude for allowing my mom to live-out her last year in dignity. The work the team does is not easy, yet they make it seem so. They are genuinely the most caring professionals anyone could ever ask for.

For the past six months I can say that my uncle has been treated with dignity and respect! The Director Shonda has a giving and caring heart and takes her job seriously. Even when my uncle didn’t like the food they went above and beyond to get things he would eat and even sent in a specialist concerning his health, signs of depression and alertness! That speaks volumes. My uncle really disliked his other place but he gives Esplanade of Woodmere caretakers compliments daily and I can sleep better knowing he’s not being abused!!!

I must start off by saying I believe it was a great blessing to our mother and our family that we were able to find the Esplanade in Woodmere, NY. Hindel Jesselson, the Executive Director, from the time of our introduction and consistently throughout our mother's stay, provided a sense of relief that our mother would be taken care of by staff knowledgeable about aging and specifically dementia. I'm a psychologist and I have worked in several geriatric settings and have also had experience with many facilities while procuring the necessary services that my mother needed. To say that the Esplanade and the staff in its entirety stood out from anything I've ever had an experience with, is beyond an understatement. From the moment I went on a tour of the community to the day that we bid farewell and thanked the staff for their loving and knowledgeable care for our mother during the last period of her life, every staff member did an amazing job. I was there at 7:00am and at Midnight and, it didn't matter what was happening in the community, the staff were always there providing loving and nurturing and medically knowledgeable care for our mother. Do you know how you tend to get a sense of a place? What it's like during the day when it's bustling full of professionals and an abundance of staff? And what it's like during the late-night early morning hours? And how you just get a sense of how a place runs? Well, I truly believe that this facility is a rare jewel in a world that sadly too often looks to take advantage of people at the end of their life in so many ways, including mental, emotional, and financial concerns. There were no games or tricks or bait and switch techniques of a potato costing $1 today and $5 tomorrow. If that last sentence doesn't make sense to someone reading this, then consider yourself fortunate. Unfortunately, the world of elder care is steeped in vultures who prey upon the elderly and the emotionally vulnerable family members who love them dearly. Too many luxurious, shiny, and expensive facilities pledge everything to the elderly, but they do not deliver what they promise. This is where the Esplanade stands apart from all those other dubious facilities “ because the Esplanade does, in every way, deliver what they promise. We can never say enough about the outstanding care on every level that the Esplanade provided our mother. When you find the right place, you just know! My father has been residing at the Esplanade of Woodmere for over a year, and we are beyond THRILLED! The building is beautiful. Everything is new and clean, and the maintenance staff is on top of everything that needs to get done. All staff show empathy and caring, and treat each resident with kindness and respect. You can tell that they want to be there, and they really make an effort to engage everyone. The food is apparently very good, and substitutions are made upon request. The most important thing is that my father says he is happy and that he likes it there very much. When he first got there, he was a shell of himself, unable to walk, sometimes just sitting in a wheelchair, staring, and drooling on himself. Now, he’s very lucid, walking with a walker, and just totally aware of what’s going on around him. It’s absolutely amazing! I feel such relief, knowing my daddy is close by, and being so well cared for, by the wonderful staff at The Esplanade of Woodmere.

I am very familiar with Assisted Livings since I moved many seniors in my career as a senior move manager. Moving a family member is a true test of understanding just how good staff responds to your needs. Yesterday, I moved my father-in-law into the Esplanade of Woodmere. After a long trip and due to the hour, we settled him in and went home. I had a few concerns and returned the next day to discuss my father-in-law’s needs. The staff at the Esplanade responded instantaneously. I am so pleased with the professionalism and care of the staff from the Executive Director to their maintenance staff. I laugh when I heard that the Chef herself addressed my father-in-law’s food requests. The Esplanade of Woodmere is clean, bright, efficient, warm, and welcoming. Yes, it hasn’t even been 24 hours, but as someone who has transitioned hundreds of seniors, I am very pleased with our first hours at the Esplanade of Woodmere.

My Dad is one of the smartest people I have ever known. Up until April 2021 he had a fantastic memory, not just for someone who is 95 years old. Unfortunately, Dad fell, hit his head and suffered a traumatic brain injury and his memory was severely impaired. The staff, not to mention the facilities, at the Esplanade is fantastic - from the top down. It is rare to find a facility where everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, is caring, compassionate, patient and supportive.
