Reviews The Carpenter House
March 2024
Our special needs son Ken was a patient in the Carpenter House in Shreveport, and I am extremely grateful for our experience there. The medical directors, nursing staff, nurses' assistants, chaplain, and volunteers were so very kind and compassionate to both Ken and me while we were there. Since I'm not from Shreveport, I fully expected to feel very alone while we were there. My fears of feeling alone and homesick were quickly negated by the love and kindness shown by the staff as soon as we walked in the front door. Ken died on February 3rd, and I feel blessed to have experienced the Carpenter House. To me, the Carpenter House in Shreveport represents the epitome of hospice care.

The Carpenter House was everything we wanted and more in a hospice facility! Honestly I wished we would have brought my mom there sooner. The facility is super nice and we loved our view of the fountain and trail outside our windows. It's such a peaceful place for people to live their last days. My family really enjoyed the kitchen area that had coffee, snacks, and a fridge for us to use which made it easier when you're staying so many hours a day. The nurses and techs were WONDERFUL! All of them were so sweet and compassionate towards us. The nurses would always answer our questions we had about the end of life process and even when my mom did finally pass, the nurse working was very informative on the situation. And being open to visitors all hours of the day was nice too, especially because my mother passed in the middle of the night and my siblings were able to come up there and say their goodbyes. I will tell everyone to try to come here for their families and I would like to come back here in the future IF ever needed, but hopefully not soon

My dad passed at 6:00 the nurse rushed us out by 6:35 so the coroner could pick up my dad. He wasn't even all the way cold yet and my sister only got to see him for 2 mins. As a grieving family we were rushed out. A little compassion would have been nice at the end.

Thank you for the love you showed my mom! The Carpenter House was warm, comfortable, supportive but most of all they honor the loved ones and their families during the last hours of their journey.
December 2022
This is a lovely place full of attentive, compassionate people. The RNs, nurse aides, chaplain, social worker, doctors and everyone else we interacted with was helpful and present. We liked how easy they made it to stay overnight, how they answered all our questions patiently, and how they checked in on Dad 24/7. My heart hurts for the negative experiences some people have posted about. Maybe people don't understand how acute hospice works? Carpenter House has a respite care section and a hospice section for people who are close to death (not just for those who have six months to live, but those who are days away). It is normal for people to stop eating and drinking at the end of life, and it is respectful of their dignity to not force-feed them -- but I imagine it can be extremely jarring if people are not aware of what is happening. (Carpenter House will feed people if they are still eating.) If your loved one's doctor recommends Carpenter House, I highly recommend you visit it and talk to their intake staff so you understand what services it does and doesn't provide. For us, it brought great solace during a very difficult time.
