As a current family member of a long time resident, I’m glad I saw the recent review. I feel compelled to respond as it does not reflect what my family and other families I’m connected with have experienced. I’ve encouraged them to also respond. We know the staff well and can speak first hand that review is false and clearly trying to lie about the facility. No place is perfect, but we’ve witnessed some families interacting with staff who have unrealistic expectations and are probably someone who wrote that review. We visit often and have consistently seen staff members working hard, especially with tuff residents. We couldn’t do it which is why we chose to put our loved one at Gardens.

The building is clean, welcoming, and feels like home. The meals are delicious, activities are engaging, and communication with families is excellent. My husband and I were looking for a memory care facility for his mom and we heard about The Gardens at Sumter. At first, we were skeptical because it’s an hour away from our home. When I called to see if they have any openings, I spoke with Datra Richardson. She was a joy to speak with. I heard the compassion for the residents and the love of her job in her voice. She answered all of my questions without hesitation. I scheduled a tour for my husband and I and mother in law. This place did not disappoint! The facility didn’t have a smell. The residents looked content and every staff person we encountered was pleasant. We were impressed with the way they have the hall painted and the vinyl records on the wall. They’re like a family there and we saw that in the way they treat the residents. My mother in law is happy there and she being well taken care of. My husband and I are glad we made the decision to place her at The Gardens of Sumter.

My aunt has been a resident of The Gardens at Sumter for the past 3 months. She has dementia and trying to find the perfect place to care for her has been a challenge for the past couple of years. I am so happy that i found this place. The care they gave provided thus far has been very rewarding. It’s the small details that impress me the most. Whenever I call or reach out they respond and answers all of my questions. This is really important to me, especially since I’m out of town and don’t get to see my aunt often.

The Gardens at Sumter has some of the most courteous staff that I have met in a very long time. It smells good when you enter the doors and the residents seem to be content. My dad was here and loved it. They took great care of him and were a Godsend during a difficult time in my father’s life. They helped me navigate through this time with little to no problems. I miss my dad but I know his time at The Gardens were enjoyable.

I called twice, got denied the first time, and the second time I believe a resident answered the phone, very disoriented and asked if I was Eric and thought they called me. Not sure what is going on but that shows someone isn’t doing what they are supposed to be and no way I would let my family member stay there.

The care that my brother received, for the last two years, has been wonderful. The entire staff, from housekeeping to the director, were very passionate and truly caring. Although my brother, could be difficult at times, the patience and devotion to their jobs was always apparent. The communication between myself and the staff was excellent. My brother was comfortable and referred to The Gardens at Sumter as home. I am truly appreciative to the entire staff and would highly recommend the memory care unit at The Gardens at Sumter.

So far Dad is very happy at The Gardens. The facility is very clean and tastefully decorated. Dad says the food is really good especially breakfast. I have to say every staff member seems happy to be there and they have all been very kind to Dad. The Executive Director is accessible and the admissions coordinator made every step of getting Dad there very easy.

You can see from the cleanliness and care of the grounds that this facility maintains a high level of standards. Too many facilities look aged and overgrown with weeds. Not the case here at all. Keep up the good work. Residents deserve a caring environment to spend their final days.
