My mother, who has been battling mental illness her entire adult life, is living here and during the Covid-19 pandemic has only been able to go outside for the occasional doctor's appointment. It has been nearly 11 months since the pandemic took hold in New York and locked down facilities like this. While the safety of the residents is the top priority, people with behavioral health conditions cooped up for nearly a year is a recipe for disaster, which is what is unfolding at this facility right now. The staff and administrator, Maxine, have been patient with my mother during her years there, but the past several months have tested the already-stretched thin staff. Facilities like this need more resources to provide an environment that does not resemble a prison. There are beautiful parks in Yonkers and there should be a way to manage supervised visits there to allow the residents some time outside of the facility in the fresh air. If there was a resource for van transportation to the park and/or a store once or twice a week that could work wonders to alleviate stress and create a better environment. The facility needs additional funding or reallocation of staff to support trips during this time when the residents cannot go out unsupervised due to Covid risks. Visitors are not even allowed at the facility currently, though I have been able to drop things off (like food, books, and personal care items) and see my mother briefly at the side door. During those brief visits, however, I've noticed staff (who live in the community and could be exposed to Covid where they live) not wearing their masks properly while walking the halls. This presents a dangerous situation for the residents, and based on the conversations I've had with the staff is not being taken seriously enough. It is likely this pandemic condition will last another year, so I will be pleading with the state to introduce reforms in places like this before the situation worsens and jeopardizes the health and safety of people like my mother.

Talk about a home away from home. I was visiting this home was greeted with professionalism and kindness from everyone in the whole place. It was clean and neat. The staff was smiling and the people were all gathered together watching some mid afternoon TV shows. It was such an awesome atmosphere.

Wonderful home where the staff really care about their residents. The real shining star over there is the administrator. What a professional.

It's a residence for older Medicaid recipients who have no where else to go and who need intensive care on a daily basis including meals and medication administration. It's hit or miss. Better than the alternative of homelessness but not someplace you want a family member you love.
