In 2020, I posted a stellar review. However, there are now new owners and my review is no longer valid. I just felt the need to inform potential residents. If you are placing your loved one here, keep your eyes open, ask for certifications of those providing meds and question everything even though you may not receive the entire truth. Over the past four years, I have had to address serious health and safety related violations at the end of old ownership and now new ownership. Positives are that there have been some renovations to the property, it is clean and the menu has been revamped. Most of the staff have been kind although we heard an uproar by an employee when Mom first had to use oxygen because she said and we heard that she was "sick and tired" of moving the oxygen. We were willing to buy extra oxygen and when the manager tried to address it, that staff member became very aggressive toward my sister so she was told to apologize. To date that staff member is still employed at North Pines. We have bought lots of extras to accommodate such as video monitor, humidifier, etc. but now not in use. There may have been positives but also serious cons. For instance, Mom was outside, fell and broke her shoulder while the maintenance guy "was hired to watch her" because the owner and manager were not there, her oxygen was shared with a sick patient who later died and then the manager (same manager under new and old ownership) never informed me about only to deny when I found out after Mom became ill and hospitalized (possibly a connection between sharing the oxygen and Mom's one month hospital stay), Mom's cell phone and prescription glasses were stolen, Mom's meds were under her bed meaning med tech walked away after giving meds to Mom on several occasions, etc. The latest under new ownership is that since they have taken over (six months now), we never had a care meeting with the new owners on our concerns or how to best care for Mom. Instead, we decided to bathe Mom ourselves because they said that she kept declining. This is after I had someone show them how to nudge Mom to shower. Also, the new owner's very first question to me was "how much are you paying?" More of Mom's belongings are missing and the house doctor examined residents at the dinner table just before eating. I'm sure that's a HIPPA violation but the manager did not see a problem with it when I asked and the new owner was also present during this. This remains to be resolved. As of this review, the air conditioning is broke and it is very warm and stuffy. Some of the same staff and manager are on the payroll so same facility but different goal, less compassion. Residents are looked upon as a resource as opposed to individuals who actually need to be cared for and helped. As told to me by the owner, they need to raise rates due to renovations, mortgage, pay increases, etc. Although this is certainly an understandable goal of any business, the rate increases were conveyed by being given mail immediately as you walk in the door with the rate increase letter on top of mail. I have never been given the mail before. In fact, I have had to ask for it. There is potential for this facility, but new owners need to focus on resident privacy and safety and fix the infrastructure of the business first rather than focus solely on cosmetic changes. There are leftover alliances between manager and a few employees with one in particular who together have made some detrimental decisions. I've actually seen them roll their eyes at the new female owner and then smile to her face. So sad, no respect. The female owner would have known all of this if we would have had a care meeting.
