Jon Roeder

My experience with having my mother in this facility was quite bad. In the end, they seemed more interested in extracting as much money out of us over providing good healthcare for my mother, who passed after 6 days on their watch. Mom’s health was on the rise until the day she arrived at this facility. Once she arrived, things took an immediate turn for the worse and the nurses took no action that I was made aware of to help make her better. The details…..My mom was living independently and taking care of her dog and cat until she fell a few times on a Saturday night, ending up in the hospital on Sunday morning with nothing broken. After a couple of days there, they determined she needed surgery on her neck to help with her mobility. So off to surgery, then to recovery, and then to Banner Physical Rehabilitation for a couple of weeks. At Banner rehab, they were telling us of all her positive improvements since surgery. She wasn’t well enough to go back home or to assisted living, and not so bedridden that she was approved for a nursing home. So, through Banner’s recommendation, we found D&L Adult Care Home. Upon touring, the staff seemed nice, and the home seemed clean and well taken care of. I agreed to have her transferred there and started the process of cleaning and selling her house so she could afford the amount of money they wanted immediately to host her. Profit over empathy to fill their empty room right off the bat. Upon arrival, my mother’s health immediately declined, and I mean immediately. First, she complained about the noise. She said the place was alive at 4am and no one slept past that time. I didn’t sleep there and can’t confirm. Next, she told me that when they showered her, they never bothered to dry her off; they simply put her clothes on her wet body which was a painful dressing process for her. On top of that, they were not gentle when they moved her from the bed to the chair, chair to the toilet or shower, etc., so she was always in pain and afraid to ask for help because it meant pain was coming her way. Her words were they treated her like luggage. So that was some of the anguish she suffered upon arrival. Physically, she immediately suffered edema when she checked in to the D&L Adult Care Home. First, her legs started leaking to the point they put a puppy pad underneath her wherever she was sitting or lying. I asked [name removed], the main nurse about this, and she said not to worry that it was completely normal after a surgery like hers. I said, “A neck surgery will cause her legs to leak?”. She said yes, not to worry. Well, that edema got worse over the next few days until eventually I received a call that she was leaking all the way up her arms and her legs were splitting open, so I told them to take her to the ER ASAP where she passed away 9 hours later. It is my opinion that the care she received at D&L Adult Home Care is what ultimately led to the early passing of my mother. They did not take good care of her. They did not communicate well with me. I visited every day, too. I can’t in any way recommend this facility to anyone who wants good care for their loved one.
