I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Olney Memory Care on many different occasions for events, networking, and even getting a tour from Andres. You can tell that he is very knowledgeable about dementia care. I can honestly say that during my visits, the caregivers have been caring, attentive, and treat the residents with kindness. The community is clean and well maintained. You can see that the residents are encouraged to socialize and participate in daily activities, and everyone helps create a welcoming and engaging environment.

I am a musician who performs at about seven different senior living communities each month. This gives me insight into what each of them are like and how they compare. I have generally been impressed with the caregivers who work with seniors at all the places where I perform. But I must say that there's just something special about Olney Memory Care. Actually, I know what that "something" is; it's the staff. They make it FUN! They exude JOY! They mix it up. They are creative. Sometimes, they wear silly costumes and laugh at themselves and each other. If I had a relative who needed memory care, I can think of no better place for them than OMC. We are blessed to have them in our community.

It’s difficult to fully express the sense of relief I experienced at Olney Memory Care (Artis). Before I met Lisa Friedman, a wonderful professional who helps families in their search for elder care, and who’d come highly recommended, the search for a care center for my mother was difficult in every way; emotionally, mentally, and physically. Between high costs, low caregiver to resident ratios, and glass chandeliers, I struggled to find a comfortable match. After explaining my desires, discussing ways and means, and lunching with my mom, Lisa guided us to OMC and it was as if the clouds parted. I found a dedicated staff of friendly professionals at a home that was specifically designed to assist people with dementia and memory care. Everyone was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and devoted. My largest concern was moving my mother into a facility. It was a gut-wrenching, arduous task, and I was terrified of her resistance, and worried that she would be unhappy. It gave me nightmares. The professionals at OMC, everyone from the director and coordinators, to the department leaders, nursing staff, activity coordinators and caregivers, to the chefs and groundskeepers, went to great lengths to make the process as smooth as possible. They expertly facilitated her transition wearing nothing but smiles, and made sure that she was carefully considered and attended to. The sheer amount of time, patience, and empathy they were willing to devote to her was incredible. They made it their mission to ensure her transition was comfortable, and treated her with the love and grace I was so afraid she’d go without. They didn’t just do this for MY mom. I've seen what they do: they do it for everyone’s mom, everyone’s dad, everyone’s loved one. The entire staff does a wonderful job of treating everyone with dignity and respect. Knowing the challenges and difficulty of caring for loved-ones suffering from dementia, to witness them going about their work is a comfort, as they regularly check-in on residents, speak to them as peers, and attend to their wants and needs with compassion and humility. One day early on, when I was visiting and feeling particularly distraught, one of mom’s caregivers gave me a hug and didn’t hesitate to say a few kind words, and care for me, as well. It’s okay, she’s doing fine, this is all normal, it happens all the time, they pack up and say they’re going home, and then later we help them unpack and put their things away again. And all you boys come in and cry for your moms. We laughed and I felt a sense of peace and calm that had been missing for so long; things were alright, they happen all the time, and my feelings were universal. Mom was going to be okay and I was, too. From the engaging programs thoughtfully designed for physical and mental enrichment, to the excursions, and to the events that enrich the holidays and milestones they have to spend apart from us, OMC goes above and beyond what I had ever hoped for. I’ll never be able to thank them enough, and can only hope they know how much their work means to all of us, and to my mom, even if she doesn’t know it.

We are very happy that we found Olney Memory Care for our father. The caregivers are wonderful and seem to enjoy what they do and are dedicated to the residents. Lena, Kiki and Rosamond are just a few of the caregivers that our dad has looking out for him and who our family appreciates. The kitchen staff serve a variety of foods and remembers our dad's dietary restrictions, providing alternatives when necessary (call-out to Danny and Josh). The doctor/nursing staff are very good at communicating and responding when we have questions and concerns, and we are glad to know they are there 24/7. The woman (Sunny?) who cuts hair and gives manicures looks out for our dad when it's time for his - all residents seem to enjoy their time being pampered when she's there. Pam is fantastic and enthusiastic when leading the activities, though our dad likes to watch more than participate. The maintenance staff keep the place looking, smelling and feeling nice. Everyone is friendly and kind. We appreciate that there is an outdoor, fenced-in area for walking that has flowers and shrubbery and places to sit in the sun or shade. Our dad has been here for almost a year and we are happy with the care he is getting here.

I am thankful that OAL has such kind, innovative, dedicated staff as Zach Bolton, and Pam Barrett in the Life Enrichment Program. It makes such a difference in the life of the residents and my mother especially. The activities program really stimulates her physically and mentally with the arts & crafts and educational activities. They treat each resident as if they are the only one and special. Carrie and the entire leadership team have created a family like environment that is welcoming and engaging. I couldn’t possibly list all of the individuals who have made a difference but I would like to highlight a few. Cynthia displayed the perfect balance of care, professionalism, and support as we we began the search process almost 3 years ago. We chose OAL because of her! Suzanne has been a lifeline for me regarding all non-medical issues that continuously pop up. I live 2 hours away so I have peace of mind knowing I can count on her. Chrissy helped me extensively during a challenging time with my brother’s health. She provided constant communication and honest feedback; but also listened to all my concerns, which was so important to me at that time. Pam and Zach are the dynamic duo bringing energy, structure and fun to each and every day. They, and the activities they implement, have truly been a difference maker for my brother! I am so thankful and grateful for the entire team of care partners who juggle so many roles and responsibilities however I need to give a shout-out to Genevieve, Melissa, Phillip and Thomas who have embraced my brother’s uniqueness and take care of his needs. And finally, Rosa is not only a fantastic housekeeper; but a ray of sunshine who brightens my brother’s day! And, there will be people that I miss unintentionally as they work on the night shift, or behind the scenes. OAL has been a gift to our family, and I'd like to acknowledge Genevieve Kouame, Melissa McLeod, Pam Barrett, Zach Bolton, Thomas Kamara, Althelia Tubman, Chrissy Meadows, Melinda Scorba, and the whole leadership/Admin team. One of the areas where OAL knocks it out of the park is communication; we all know what Mom needs and how I can help OAL do their best for Mom. Communication is key and OAL does a fabulous job in my opinion (and we've been other places!).

My mother was at OAL for 3 years and it was also during Covid 2020-2022. OAL had very few problems with Covid and handled it per the CDC requirements. I don't know what I would have done if I still had my mother in her home. Also so many sweet caregivers took good care of my mother. It is a very difficult journey taking care of a loved one with dementia and at OAL you find yourself becoming one big family. When my mother did pass at the age of 94, OAL was wonderful supporting my family during our grief. I still visit OAL and enjoy seeing the staff, employees, residents and family members.

The regular morning and afternoon programs are varied and keep my mom having fun. My Mom recently passed but was a resident at Olney Assisted Living for over 5 years and during that time received excellent care. I would give this facility very high marks in regard to resident care, communication, and transparency. The facility director does an amazing job of keeping families updated on operational changes and the entire nursing staff (both Registered Nurses and Nursing Assistants) always kept me well informed about any changes in Mom’s condition. Dementia/Alzheimer’s is a difficult disease process and having to move a loved one out of their home and into a place that is not home is a hard thing to do. But Olney Assisted Living is special. The facility is smaller and you won’t find a fancy chandelier or someone playing the piano in the lobby but what you will find is an AMAZING staff who genuinely has a passion and a calling to care for people.

Olney Assisted Living is a wonderful quaint community for your loved ones in need of memory care. The team goes above and beyond to assist seniors and their families throughout the Montgomery County area. They host webinars and in-person events to assist and support family caregivers to provide the best care for their loved one. They even provide short stay respite care to give families a break. I especially love their one floor living with a beautiful patio and back yard with a view of nature. I highly recommend them to anyone needing to place their loved one into special care for the memory impaired.

If you take away nothing else from my review, Olney Assisted Living is the place you’ve been searching for that will treat you and your loved one with a respect and compassion far superior to anywhere my mom ever lived before. When you visit, you will see the staff treat each other and the residents like family. I never felt I had to make sure they were properly caring for my mom- it was clear they were providing great care and truly just wanted her to be happy. I wish I had found this place much earlier. I had no idea a place like this existed from the Executive Director, Carrie, who makes herself available at any time, to the amazing nursing staff, wonderful activities staff and dedicated caretakers. Olney Assisted Living knows this population and how to best care for them. I just can’t sing their praises high enough.

This is the third, and best facility we have used. In the year my wife has lived here, care has been reassuring. It's outside sidewalk around the three sides of the building enable her and visitors to stroll outside safely. She loves sunshine and a breath of fresh air, having been a swimmer much of her life. She is on her feet often walking about in the sectors or neighborhoods of the facility. The staff know her location enough to tell where she recently is or was, or will find her for visitors. Staff informs me of changes in health status by phone. Meals are served in the local dining room, and are attractive. To treat a recurring problem of early morning falls in the previous assisted living home, a tumbling mat is placed next to her bed overnight. This exemplifies the quality of skilled care among the staff. Entry and exiting involve staff control, a bit more secure for residents but slower for non-residents. OAL is a relatively fresh memory care facility with cheerful ambiance, safety, space for residents, plentiful diversions and social activity. I am thankful to use this for my wife's care and my peace of mind. Much -needed memory care around the clock Thus family can sleep better at night.
