Not quite sure where to begin.... This place is something else.... My father, who is a VETERAN was admitted for 2 weeks at Bridges following a femur break in 3 places and surgery with a 12 inch steel rod and steel plates with screws. Dad's care up here was the worst that we have ever had. They "forgot" dad's lunch and supper 4 days in a row, and not just him but his entire wing didn't get theirs either. They left him lay in a bed soaked with urine for over 2 1/2 hours and we had to go find a nurse, in the process of speaking with a nurse another nurse told me that they were busy, as she was carrying boxes of rubber gloves to put away. Yep more important to put rubber gloves away rather than help a patient who cant move on their own get cleaned up from a urine soaked bed. He was "forgot" about on the toilet for 45 min and once again had to go track down a nurse, as his legs and fanny were numb for sitting there so long. The pain meds that dad was to be given on a scheduled time was not given for the first 4 days that he was there due to "lack of communication". They sent in 2 orderlies to help move him, and they had no idea what they were doing and forced his leg over which made a loud popping noise and then we had to wait until the next day for x-rays to make sure that they didnt re-break the bone or the steel plates didnt move! The food was not fit for a dog to eat, and when he did get his food it was cold and hard. Funny thing - dad was right across the hall from the kitchen. All we kept hearing while we were there, was all these issues were due to lack of communication. Well then we need to fix this lack of communication. NO person should have to endure this kind of treatment while being in a nursing home whether they are there long term or short term. Its sad all that he endured in the 2 weeks that he was there. This is a beautiful newer place, but they just dont have it together. Such a lack of communication, and it doesnt seem that anyone there gives a damn to do anything to make it better. We did have a couple really nice nurses, and that did help with all the bad he endured. I would not refer anyone to this place! It is so PATHETIC that our elderly loved ones have to endure this kind of care! They deserve so much better!

My mother was there for all almost two years and received excellent care. Caring nurses and CNAs. Very nice, clean, newer facility. Lots of windows and open areas. We inspected several care centers before selecting Bridges. None of them were as nice. It is a little more expensive but you get what you pay for. Thanks to Juanita Galusha For her kindness and willingness to always be there for me.

I have been working at the Bridges for about a year and a half and I am so glad I made the choice to come work here. I was greeted with friendly and welcoming attitudes from both management and floor staff. I have felt encouraged and like I just fit in which is hard to do sometimes. I feel that the staff no matter what department really do their best to provide the best care for our residents as possible especially in this Covid world we now live in. There is a reason that we are a 5 star building and are winning awards!

I moved my mom in 1 year ago from Texas, there were many nursing homes but none would work with me due to COVID restrictions and her coming from Texas without Iowa Medicaid. The Bridges was the only facility, even 3 hours away, to consider and accept my mom. The administrator drove the facility bus to the airport after 9pm and picked my mom and us up. He took the time to show us the building, stayed and made my mom comfortable and now after 1 year he has became her corazón. My mom is ESL and Corazon is her heart, they have developed a bond that reassures me she is in the right place. The Bridges has offered to aide in finding a facility closer to my family as its so far away, but I feel better knowing the great care from all the staff there, she is particularly fond of William, Holly and Monica. The building opened up to allow visitors and this is the first time I was able to see her room from inside, the entire building is bright, welcoming, beautiful, smell free and very, very clean! The entire Bridges staff always helps and answers questions, I never feel rushed. Poor Tanner, the beautician, spent hours on my moms hair as she came from another facility that allowed it to mat up. I told him he could shave her head, but he was determined to fix it and he did, she looked so beautiful and we adore him for all the time he spent on her to make her happy. We truly love the facility, thank you from the Duran Family!!!!

Recently spent 10 days in the skilled nursing wing while I awaited surgery on a catastrophic broken leg. The entire staff was upbeat and invested in my recovery. Nurses were wonderful with pain management and wound care, taking the time to show other staff how to manage complicated dressings. COVID restrictions meant no face-to-face visitors, but staff was helpful in taking comfort items from my wife outside to make my room homier. Special shout out to CNAs Kaylee and Kaitlyn, who worked most of my evenings and made being a newly dependent person more fun that it should have been

My wife is in the latter stages of dementia as a result of Alzheimers Disease. When I could no longer safely care for her at home, I visited several homes in the area looking for a safe and comfortable place for her to live. I moved her in fall of 2016 and I still visit her 3 times a day. From day one, the staff welcomed her, and me. The staff make sure her needs are met. The meals are excellent. There is an abundance of fresh food, not just canned, frozen or prepared food. I make it a point to be with my wife for nearly all of her meals so I am well aware of what is served. The colleagues that teach nursing students and train CNAs must recognize the quality of care at The Bridges as they regularly bring their students to The Bridges to receive their practical training.

If you cant find it at The Bridges, just ask…they want to make it your HOME. My Mom experienced three distinct life stages while at The Bridges and I was able to see first hand how the amazing staff altered her Care Plan to address her changing needs as she transitioned from being able to walk and participate in activities, to becoming less mobile and cognitively deficient to eventually, end stage of life and death. As my Moms condition became progressively worse, the staff consistently and tirelessly worked to maintain the delicate balance of her capabilities. It would have been much easier to just let her stay in her bed and stop coming out to meals, activities, etc. but the staff wouldnt give up on her. I have no doubt that their determination added months of quality to her life. They also collaborated very well with our Hospice care. No turf battles at all; my Moms care and well being was their priority. The Bridges was not the first Long Term Care facility to care for my Mom. She was forced into Medicaid when she needed facility care and we had very few options. One of the most delightful differences we found when we were accepted into The Bridges was the positive atmosphere cultivated by the staff. Their upbeat, cheerful outlook is infectious and spreads throughout the staff and the facility. It is truly the little things in life that matter. The daily care warriors, get to know each resident and what is best-most comfortable for them. They know who is comforted by TV, who prefers the radio softly playing and who needs quiet. For the resident who was a football player at Iowa State, they make sure the Cyclones are on his TV whenever they are playing. For my Mom, the die-hard Iowa Hawkeye fan, they make sure she was dressed in a Hawkeye shirt on football Saturdays and they check with me to find out what channel and time the Hawks are playing. The Administrator printed off and laminated the roster so she could more easily follow her boys. Her Peeps stayed over on their own time one Sunday to decorate the Christmas tree in her room to Moms specifications: ½ Iowa Hawkeye and ½ Lumberjack (red and black plaid). Like I said...the little things.

A friend has been there for a few weeks and I (and numerous friends) have visited several times. My friend is weak and cannot get out of bed, walk or shower-use restroom without an assist. I have dropped by unexpectedly and seen the care they take to make sure he is not in discomfort while they are moving him. His clothing and body are always odor free, as is his room. They check on him periodically, are always cheerful around him, and seem genuinely concerned for his welfare. They have transportation available to take him to Des Moines for tests and doctor visits if desired. There was a dog there roaming free to give the residents company. We usually arrive shortly after lunch, and have seen entertainment, ranging from Bingo to singers, taking place each time. I have met the Administrator, and he was outgoing, friendly, and seems genuine in his concern for my friends care. The facility lobby, hallway bathrooms, hallways, common areas, and my friends room are always clean and odor free. Everything is well lit, the furnishings are maintained and modern. I spoke with a maintenance man who was painting-touching up a small spot in my friends room. He was also friendly and talkative. My friends room had no TV, so I inquired. The maintenance man said they have TVs available for the rooms. I am a former elder abuse investigator and have been in numerous nursing homes before. From everything Ive observed, The Bridges deserves their high ratings, and Im glad my friend is receiving care there.

After a second stay with The Bridges I want to update my feedback as we had a completely different experience. The stay this past December was a wonderful experience. From increased staff to structure around meals and nurse visits we were able to relax and focus 100 percent of our time on helping my grandfather thru his rehab. The staff in the physical therapy center worked well to coordinate sessions and adjust his treatments since he was responding so well. We appreciated the communication in the one on one staff meetings that were held with us to ensure everyone was on the same page with my grandfathers progress and next steps. I highly recommend this facility for anyone looking to place a loved one be it short term or long term needs.

My dad recently had about a month of skilled rehab at Bridges, during the quarantine. While it was sad to not be able to visit him (save for a couple window visits,) the staff treated him very kindly. The nurses were very kind to him. The nurses were very nice, but the process of inquiring for information (related to becoming a resident) left a little to be desired (my first online inquiry wasnt replied to, had to send a 2nd one).

My grandmother just finished skilled care after she fell at her assisted living. We loved it! She had the same staff nearly her whole stay and they got to know her as a person. I visited each night for a couple of hours and they were very responsive, I was shocked to see they had things for her to do at night and she joined in on a card club. She raved about a violinist that came in to play.

This is a wonderful place.Nurses hear care about me. Kristina who has been my nurse at times does an extra caring job. When I need something she makes sure more is done right away. My uncle just finished skilled care for his heart issues, prior to that he was at the hospital in their skilled unit and was recommended here. I am thankful my uncle was able to get in as the care and communication was above board. Joe came in and gave us a phone immediately, the girls on the floor always helped and the social worker set up everything to keep him home longer. great staff!
