Updated August 2023 We stayed with Porter Place for three years until the death of our loved one. During this time, the staff, from the executive director down to individuals directly caring for residents continually demonstrated compassion, patience and respect/kindness toward our loved one. The last few weeks, with hospice onboard, the entire Porter Place team was exceptional. The facility remained clean and well maintained during our years there. Recently, there has been a change in leadership (due to a retirement) and the new director is outstanding. The overall leadership at the Porter Place is responsive, reasonable and very caring. I continue to recommend Porter Place as a location for your loved one to thrive. During our three years, the staff provided a premiere care experience for our loved one. August 2021 Finding Porter Place has been a blessing. Colleen, the Executive Director demonstrates great compassion, attention to detail, kindness and a focus on the dignity of the residents. As a result, these characteristics are embedded in the entire Porter Place Staff. The Staff is very responsive. The facility is newer, clean, and well maintained. The room is spacious, temperature controlled and kept tidy. The food is fresh and tasty. The overall environment is calming and safe. There is a continuous focus on care and dignity. Our loved one quickly improved within days upon arrival and is being well cared for. The meals and activities are well planned. Overall, I highly recommend Porter Place as a location for your loved one to thrive. The Staff has provided a premier experience for not only our loved one but for us as caretakers.

My mom lived at Porter Place for 6 months and we decided to move her. I would give it a solid 3 stars. On the pro side, the care was normally good and the staff was attentive and friendly. On the con side, there are a large number of residents there and it can be a bit overwhelming for quieter people. The common area (TV room) is too small for the number of residents. The CNA staff turnover is high so there is a lack of consistency. Guests are asked about their Covid status (as of June 2024) and temperature is taken with a scanner at the desk which is crazy at this point. There is a bit of an institutional feel to the place as opposed to where my mom is now. Depending on the cleaning staff, there is often a urine smell in the hallways. Bottom line, your loved one will receive good care here but the a large number of residents make it less homey and presents challenges for the overall environment.

After Mom received and involuntary 30 day notice for her behavior and eloping, I visited 10 places. After meeting with Kelley, then Colleen, I knew Mom would really be cared for here. I had so many questions and my sister and I were so worried that Mom would have a difficult time adjusting, but the questions were answered and the welcoming we received was over the top!! Every single caregiver was ready for Mom. They were very inviting and helped to calm my sister and I down. Mom's birthday was Sunday, and oh what a special day! Everyone had their own special way to celebrate Mom we were in tears!! They took her to the Tinley park parade!! I would have never imagined our Mom out in a parade!! This would have never happened if it wasn't for everyone at Porter Place!! I can say it's the cleanest, most comfortable place we have ever been in. The training they receive definitely shows, but the compassion and love they have for their patients isn't something taught. I will be their biggest fan!! And I hope when deciding on where to place your loved one, you need to come and see them all in action!! You will definitely get the rest you need knowing that your loved one is being cared for by all 6 month update: I am so very greatful to Porter Place. It's not the name, it's the people that work there! My Mom has been here since November 2023. She has Alzheimer's and her behaviors can be very difficult. Sometimes She is not so nice when my sister and I visit. But have no fear, someone will come and save the day. They really know how to redirect and help us understand that this is their job!! Mom came from a place that said was memory care, but no one there knew what they were doing and felt injections were the answer!! My Mom looked like death daily. Here at Porter Place she laughs, smiles, knows everyone and even has a name badge because she thinks she works there. And not one injection!!!! They take her places. Something that has been difficult for my Sister and I to do because getting her back in is a challenge. I thank everyone here for taking such great care of My Mom daily. We tried at home but it was too much for my sister and I. This is Home for Mom. It surely feels like home to us as well! Building these relationships we will have forever and ever!!!

No matter how tough of day, they're always greeting you with a smile and great attitude. We were very comfortable knowing that our mom was in the best of care from the very beginning. Mom was here for 5 days. They don't let family visit for 1-2 weeks. We called daily asked if she was ok. Were lied to. Ended up going there after 4 days and found her almost dead, body temp 92 degrees, hands blue, unconscious in a wheelchair in dining room in short pajamas, no teeth and no underwear on with poop on back of bottoms. We had to do sternum rub on her, caregivers ignored us and acted like it was no big thing that a resident was unconscious. At the ER we were informed Mom was in renal failure, they had not given her liquids in over 48 hours. It was too late. There was nothing they could do. She died a week later. Porter place does not care. The RN in staff did not even know she had died or what had transpired. The "management " hides from us when we go in for answers on why this happened even though they told us "we are the experts". If i could give negative stars, I would. Do not send your loved one here. It is a horrible place.

My words of advice are, when you need to do something really important get as much information that you can. The time was near that I could no longer safely take care of my wife at our home. I had to admit to myself that she needs more help than I can give her. I felt that I had failed her. We spent a day or two at a few memory care facilities to get an idea of how they take care of the people trusted to them. I will not comment on what happened or the places we visited. I will say that I am very glad that we found Porter Place. The staff and office people are great to work with. Any problems my wife had in the beginning, the people there worked quickly to correct and keep her safe. They talk and listen to me and my family and know our names. I visit my wife four days a week and have never felt that I made the wrong decision. I miss my love every day but deep in my heart I know I did the right thing for her. She is my most important person, and always will be.

Placed my Mom who suffers from Alzheimers here 6 weeks ago and couldn't be happier. She is safe, clean and well fed. They thoroughly understand this horrible disease and keep my Mom "busy" to help with the high anxiety. I get updates from the staff, who you will never see just sitting around, with any issues that may arise. The administrator of the facility, Colleen is PHENOMENAL. Weather was projecting temperatures of -20 degrees and she cared so much about her residents that she personally slept over night. Who does that?! This lady is on top of things 24/7 and has a great staff in place.

The staff are dedicated and genuinely care for the residents. From the administrator to the nurses to the support staff, all of them provide personal care. The food is quite good, the rooms are kept clean. Every request we made was met in a timely manner.

From the ever changing activity offerings to the availability of care giver support, there truly is no other option. Making the decision to move our mom into a memory care facility was one of the most difficult decisions we have ever had to make. But the people at Porter Place are understanding, compassionate and caring. They realize what is at stake and they help you through everything. And that is just making the decision. Once my mom moved in every single person is amazing. From Dawn and Brittany at the front to Colleen and Kelly to every person my mom comes into contact with. We chose Porter Place because of its reputation and because it focuses on dementia care and has residents at different stages of the disease (not just advanced). The director is excellent - warm and caring, and very good at relating to families and residents. The activities staff is also excellent. Some of the aides were wonderful and took the time to get to know our family, while others were a bit less skilled. The facility is clean and the food is quite good. Overall, our loved one received very good care, and we're glad we chose it.

The transition for us to place my mom here was extremely easy. All of the staff members are friendly and really care about your loved one. I know choosing to place your loved one in a memory care facility is extremely difficult, but the staff at Porter Place couldn't have made the experience any more easy. They keep you updated about your loved one and are willing to bend over backwards to make sure but only does your loved one gets the care they need but that you as the care giver get your needs met too.

During this terrible time of covid it is wonderful to know that she is not only safe and cared for but is truly cared ABOUT. The communication from everyone is stellar, we always know what is happening, thank you for the skype visits and keeping her so busy that sometimes she doesnt even want to visit. She would be so isolated at home but now that she is truly feeling at home there her spirits are so much better, her anxiety has decreased and it is a joy to see her blossom. I made a difficult decision to take my mother from her home to live at Porter Place. Since she moved in I could see she is comfortable there. She has 24-7 care and the staff treats her kindly. Porter place staff keeps her engaged and busy. It was such a relief after she moved in and expressed how wonderful everyone acted toward her. Alzheimers is such a challenging disease and its comforting to know she is being looked after with kindness and understanding.

I visited and investigated 15 care facilities for my father. Porter Place stood out far and above all the others--smart design based on current dementia research, outstanding training of staff, attention to the details that enrich residents lives. My dad loves to walk and wander, looking at the beautiful displays and artwork. He loves the food. He is so comfortable in his room. Any issue that has arisen has been dealt with immediately. There is tremendous respect for dad as a veteran and former law enforcement officer. The words that always come to mind after I have visited Dad--front porch visits since March this year--or spoken with him on the phone are dignity and respect. My family feels so blessed to have found Porter Place.

As a therapist who has worked in many facilities over the years I can say Porter Place is one of the best. The staff is devoted to keeping the residents happy, healthy and safe. Residents are treated with the upmost respect, compassion and above all love. The staff treats ea,h resident as if they were their own family member. During the crazy time of COVID the patients have been unable to see their families but staff have gone above and beyond to provide love and support as well as opportunities to see families through parades, face time and window visits. And when a resident just needs a hug staff are there for that too when families are unable to be there.During this pandemic I have heard horror stories about the spread of this virus through facilities. I have been so impressed with how well John from the maintenance department, his crew and the entire staff have done to keep the facility clean and germ free for the residents. Very impressive that there has not been one case of the virus in the facility. And to finish I must compliment the Executive Director Colleen who has worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe. TOP NOTCH PLACE!!

Memory Care can be tough in choosing the right location for a loved one. Ive been able to refer multiple families here when home is not an option. They have been able to take on residents that are struggling with multiple issues while meeting them at a place where they can still have a good quality of life. This is always a very personal decision for a family, but definitely worth checking out.

While no facility is perfect , Porter Place was perfect for my father. All of the staff took great care of him. He was a night owl and they were perfectly fine with letting him walk around all night and even give him little things to do. He was there for 2 years and just recently passed. My family was all there and the cook brought a plate of snacks and then they brought a cart of beverages. The whole staff came in throughout the day and evening and sat with us and shared stories about my father and they will never know how much that meant to all of us. I thank God for Porter Place and all the people in it.

We moved my mom here after she was receiving poor care at another facility. Communication was amazing during the transition, and we were able to get my mom moved quickly. Before she moved in I had the opportunity to meet with administration to discuss my moms care. My mom was already on hospice and needed a very high level of assistance, and the staff was conscientious about making sure that her needs were met as well as offering suggestions and strategies to improve her care plan. Staff engaged her in outings and activities at her ability level despite the severity of her condition. When I came for unannounced visits, my mom was always clean and in the common area instead of just being left alone in her room. My mom recently passed away, and the staff went above and beyond to make her comfortable during her final week. Staff frequently visited her room-some even coming in after their shifts or on days off to visit with her. It was obvious that although she lived there for a short time, the staff genuinely cared about her and the residents. Highly recommend.
