My mom was a resident at Ranch View for the last year of her life, and in that time she was treated with kindness, respect, and care. The caregivers were gentle, yet efficient, and some of them really went out of their way to make her smile (thank you Rafa!). The management was also very flexible in accommodating her needs. The facility itself is on the smaller side, which we found to be a plus (feels less impersonal and corporate). The patio is a particular highlight - large, peaceful, and beautifully landscaped. Overall, it was a very positive experience for my mom and the rest of my family.

I looked for several months for the right fit for my dad. Not only a place that can adequately manage his complicated medical history, but that will give him love and care. Maria isn’t the owner, but she runs it all.. and she has an amazing heart. She made the process much less painful & smooth. Maria & the staff i have met so far (Valeria & Olivia), seem to genuinely care. They don’t mind how many times you call to talk to your loved one, or if you text to ask for updates. Maria has sent pictures & videos and it’s not just the staff. The actual facility is beautiful, well kept, feels like a home, & is in a beautiful location. They have live music for the residents, activities, Bible study.. and most importantly, my dad is taking this huge life change of moving into a facility, as well as can be expected. I could not be more thankful to have found RanchView. Thank you Maria for making this difficult season much less painful for my dad and our family

Hard to top the location, on the Encinitas-Rancho Santa Fe border. Maria and her staff have exceeded all expectations in every phase of care. My wife Kathleen has been a resident for one year suffering with dementia. Her walking, talking and weight have all improved starting with regaining the 35 lbs she had lost. Very rewarding and impressive to see her overall health improvement. Maria’s staff is experienced and professional and I have seen the entire team engage in whatever activity needed attention. Kathleen has a quiet, spacious room overlooking the courtyard which is exactly what she needs. Live music outdoors weather permitting or indoors. She can open her door to enjoy from her room or join residents in the courtyard. Since being in her own home and a cure for dementia are not options at this time, we feel fortunate to get the next best option which is the care that Ranch View offers.

My mother recently moved to RanchView Senior Assisted Living. This is a wonderful boarding house with a great group of professionals who respect our relatives. These are the highest level of service, cleanliness, good food, a lot of greenery and game activities and live music. The management and staff if sufficient direction and kind. I highly recommend this facility!

My mother in law lived with us for many wonderful years until her Parkinson's and Alzheimer's became a situation my wife and I could no longer handle with out professional help. The team at ranch at view has shown amazing care for her conditions constantly working with her to keep her sharp. This is a very special place the management and staff are always striving to provide the best care for my mother in law and every individual that resigns here. The place is beautiful, clean, and everyone is professional. I highly recommend trusting your loved ones to Ranch View.

This is a loving and caring place for a loved one. It has personal care that would be impossible with a larger facility. This is a peaceful, loving place that offers tender care to those in need. I am overwhelmed with gratitude that my husband is getting better care at Ranch View than I could offer at home.

This is a very nice community located in a beautiful part of SD County. The staff are all very nice, from the care staff to Administrator and Owners. The residents are well cared for and the price is very fair for the services. This is a welcomed gem of a care facility when so many others don't do a good job. Thanks OGH for the care you offered my loved one during such a sensitive time in our lives. I recommend this facility if you need assisted living or memory care services in north county San Diego.

On the surface things seem fine like many senior care homes. First of all the monthly fee last year was $9,500.00 which is higher than the average and especially for what you get. There were 3 things that I became aware of one that is so wrong I that the caregivers told my husband he would have to pee 3 times before they would change his brief which of course means that his pants would also be wet and he would be miserable. One time when the paramedics took him to emergency they had to throw his sweatpants away they were so wet. I hired one of their caregivers who left after working there for many years because of the low standard of care by some of the caregivers and a new director who did not want to hear any criticism. She was very caring and kind. In addition my husband had few people to converse with as most had dementia and weren't able to talk. My husband had a healthy appetite and did not get enough to eat because most residents probably did no eat much. Save your money and go to Silvergate in San Marcos or the Meridian for assisted car in San Marcos.

My mother was a resident at Olivenhain for almost a year before her passing. The care there was so much more than just eldercare. They treated her like family and supported us everyday with their care and love. Larger institutions might have more ammenities, but the personal care and attention that she received from the staff and the owners was beyond our expectations. I would recommend Olivenhain to anyone who wants love and care for their family member.

This facility is beautiful inside and out. The facility is very clean and never smelled institutional. The insides are airy and bright, while the outside areas are lovely with places to sit in the sun or shade. A lot of care is taken to make sure the residents are safe and can not wander off. The feeling here is one of a protected community that cares about every resident. The staff is very caring, respectful and kind towards the people in their care. The staff makes great efforts to engage with the residents. They have many activities at all levels for residents to partake in. We gave detailed instructions on our family member's care and they followed them carefully. Our family members care here was exception.

I moved my mom to OGH a couple years ago after experiencing poor care, over charges, and neglect from a larger corporate owned facility. Ultimately, landing her in the hospital due to a untreated UTI which led to encephalopathy. Don’t be fooled by the glitz and glam of larger assisted-living/dementia care facilities. OGH is a charming smaller family owned home which provides unparalleled care! The owners Suzanne and Hank take pride in the home, listen to your concerns and take immediate action if needed. The administrators Kelly and Trudy go above and beyond and are very approachable. The entire staff from the owners all the way down treat the residents with loving care. It is not just a job. They spend time with the residents and get to know them. They get to know family members and truly give the best care one could hope for. I could finally sleep at night knowing my mom was in caring loving hands. An added bonus-great food, activities and entertainment AND they don’t nickel and dime you for various little extras!!! OGH!

Over the past several years I have had to place my two aunts and parents-in-law in senior care facilities. I feel I have seen them from the outside in and the inside out. There are big ones and little ones, all promising optimum care. After many experiences, I have found the best to be this guest home owned and operated by Suzanne and Hank Kurtz. They make their residents and their families a priority, listening to their needs and providing care that cannot be found anywhere else. They are personable, loving, caring and they go the extra mile every day of the year to give the finest quality attention and care possible. Their guest home is not a facility. Rather, it is a home with genuine attention to each resident. The grounds are peaceful and serene and the food better than home. Thank you Suzanne and Hank for giving so much to such precious charges. Alberta Keystone

Two years ago, we needed to find a care facility for our mother/mother in law to live. We visited several memory care facilities in the North County Coastal area. Many are run by large corporations, but Olivenhain Guest Home (OGH) is a family owned/run business. When we visited the OGH, the difference was immediately striking. The attitude of the owners and the staff were especially caring and more personalized. Activities, such as music 7 days a week and the large courtyard in front of the building, are specialties not found everywhere. Tomi Dutton has been pleased to live at OGH since she first visited with the owners, especially Suzanne. Tomi seems to have found the best home away from home at OGH. The thoughtful staff greets guests at the door, which is a welcoming feeling right at the start, and is comforting, caring and thoughtful. There is something in the air that carries a warmth and thoughtfulness not seen in other care giving homes. The fact that it is called Olivenhain Guest Home, rather than memory or Alzheimer’s care, is indicative of the difference from other facilities. The passion of the owners, who have had parents with dementia and Parkinson’s, shows in the care and love they and their staff provide. We appreciate the care that has been helpful to Tomi and we appreciate the efforts of the caregivers.

My 90 year old parents lived at Olivenhain Guest Home for a year and a half. Both had advanced dementia. My mother was frail and weak and was eventually put on hospice care. During that six month period the OGH caregivers were attentive and compassionate, although she fell 6 times during this period. One of the falls resulted in multiple bruises, a broken nose and pelvis. At which point hospice began to suspect neglect. My mom passed away, mercifully, in June of 2017. My father required less hands-on care. He did get a rash in early July 2016, and co-owner Hank took him to the dermatologist. In subsequent weeks the rash got worse but I was not kept up to date on how MUCH worse it got. He was bathed at least every other day, so the caregivers would have noticed. On September 23, 3 months after the rash appeared, the dermatologist, on examination, discovered the rash had spread over his entire body, later to be diagnosed as scabies. Scabies is highly contagious, very difficult to cure, and is extremely uncomfortable. It is unfathomable to me why OGH did not bring this to my attention. During 2016 there were several different people in the RN position. I found communication with the RNs, the med techs and myself to be inconsistent. I felt the need to be proactive in making sure doctors orders were followed. Compression stockings were prescribed to help the swelling in my dad's legs, but were never applied. I would ask about this and not receive answers. In regards to the administrators in this facility, I found Kelly to be honest and capable. Trudy seems to really care about the residents. As for the co-owners Hank and ex-wife Suzanne, you'll have to form your own opinions.

My Mother has been at Olivenhain Guest home for nearly three years. She has Alzheimer's and is now unable to dress herself or feed herself. The care and love that the staff gives her is amazing. It is privately owned, not a coporate facility. The owners are very hands on and very responsive. The cost is reasonable and based on one fee for everything. So you are not nickeled and dimed with unexpected costs. I selected Olivenhain because of the low ratio of residents to staff, which means that there is more care and supervision than at other facilities. In addition, the residents can go in and out the front door to enjoy a large outdoor patio area. This gives the residents a sense of "going out", even though Olivenhain is a locked facility. The home is not fancy. They put their money into care and staff, rather than chandeliers and fancy decor. However, it is always clean and the residents enjoy many activities every day. You can always find family members visiting, which gives a sense of community for the whole family. I highly recommend Olivenhain Guest Home if your loved one has dementia or Alzheimer's and needs love and care.

I spent several days visiting and evaluating all the better memory care facilities in San Diego County for my then eighty-eight year old mother. She had reached the point of needing more personalized care than the more industrialized, residential, senior care facilities could deliver. Ultimately I decided on Olivenhain Guest Home because it is owned and operated by two very dedicated and experienced professionals who built the facility from scratch, with every aspect of its residents comfort in mind. It is modern, airy, bright, full of fresh air, and set in a beautifully landscaped garden. The property itself abuts large ranch/horse properties, so its immediate setting is quiet, rural, and serene. Within a few weeks of her arrival, my mother shocked me by saying she really liked OGH; how kind and patient the staff was. My mother had high expectations and could be demanding, but she told me repeatedly how much she enjoyed living there. (Before OGH, my mother lived five years at Casa de Manana in La Jolla, and three years at Emeritus in Camel Valley). It is without any reservations whatsoever that I highly recommend this home for your loved ones. You, and more importantly, they, will be happy you did!

My brothers and I are unanimous in our praise and gratitude to Olivenhain Guest Home. Our mother was given not just a lovely place to live, plenty to interest her and good food, she was treated with compassion, affection and sincerely loving care. My mother could not only enjoy the daily music program but sometimes even play the piano along with the presenter. She was able to do art projects when she wanted to and plant seeds and watch the garden grow in ways that she had always loved. A friend of ours had recommended Olivenhain as her mother had already lived there with Alzheimer's. My mother was released from life just a few weeks ago at age 95, and we feel deep thankfulness to all the staff of Olivenhain. They kept us informed and connected even when my mother could not. We trust them completely and would be happy to talk to anyone who is considering having a parent live in this residence with beautiful courtyard that feels like a true home.

My mother was a resident at the Olivenhain Guest Home in 2014-2015. She received the best care imaginable and was always well attended to. The staff including Suzanne, Trudy, and Sarah were wonderful and fully dedicated to the care and well-being of their residents. The facility has a plethora of activities including music, crafts, art projects and games that focus on keeping the residents' minds active. My mother spent much of her time outside in the courtyard, loving the warmth of the sun in this beautiful spot.

My wife was afflicted with Alzheimer's and my family and I did an extensive review of the facilities in the area where we thought she would be well cared for and allow us the opportunity to visit with her day or night. Unanimously we agreed that the Olivenhain Guest Home was the best fit for her. She resided at the Olivenhain Guest Home for two and a half years until her passing and we feel that she was very well cared for by an attentive and caring staff.
