Reviews The Continental Retirement Community
August 2026
I have been a resident for about a year. I spent quite a long time investigating retirement communities, and this was my choice. I cannot imagine a more positive upbeat place, mainly because the staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and kind. We residents feel very fortunate to have wound up in this place with such wonderful staff. The other residents are very friendly once you get to know them. There’s a great deal of shopping and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The longer I live here the more I am amazed at how central this location is to almost every thing you could want to go to. The food is usually quite good and often very good. The chefs really care about our reaction to new recipes they try. Whether we like it or not, they listen. We have an excellent maintenance team, which is good because in addition to things needing constant repair, we also have lots of foxes, birds, squirrels, and raccoons. Bo, the maintenance director, keeps everything running, and is invariably upbeat - he literally whistles while he works 🙂 The building is old but attractive. The common areas furniture is pretty old and haphazardly arranged , which gives the impression that this is a tacky place but management seems to like things just like they are and does not respond to suggestions so we just focus on what we do have here . Management is in the process of updating the rooms with granite kitchens and vinyl wood floors. However, three of my four windows have broken seals, which make them hard to see out of. I was on the list to get the windows replaced, but I discovered that someone had taken my name off the list! Now, apparently they are not going to replace windows anymore. They are just gonna leave them like that.

Having lived at this place almost a year and a half after moving here from NYC, I would have to say it offers everything I was looking for and more. Tasty meals cooked by a professional chef, weekly housekeeping service by a caring and compassionate staff, calendar full of games and other social activities along with steady stream of live music, in which all residents are encouraged to participate to the level of their interest and abilities. The location of this spot is also super convenient within easy walking distance of Central Market, Regal Cinema and two yoga studios. There is also an on-site driver who provides free transportation for doctors office visits, shopping trips and other errands. Located just off two major highways, the only sounds you hear at night are from birds nesting in the adjacent woods. One drawback to living in a retirement community such however is that you make friends with people who sometimes don’t stick around very long, but some have lived here more than a decade. I hope to become one of them!

This is one of those hidden Austin treasures. It has large beautiful trees and a warm welcoming interior. I always see the residents hanging out and talking. It looks like they’re having fun. I remember one time I observed their executive director Everett be so kind and gentle with one of the residents. I have gone to a lot of buildings, for many years and had never seen something like that before. Executive directors generally stay in their offices. I can really only speak to the Continental from the perspective of a home health clinician. The residents seem active and engaged and I often had to reschedule their visits to accommodate their busy social schedule. Also, the location is pretty hard to beat and Veronica and David are a pleasure to work with.

I have partnered with this community for many years and I hear great things about the Continental from many of the residents and families that I work with! Every time I walk in, it is warm and welcoming. Veronica is so friendly and great to work with as well!

Pat and I have lived here for 6 months and have made a lot of lasting friends. When the weather gets a little better we will be returning to our home in Georgetown, Texas which our son has completely redone.

The staff is great. They are always willing to help when asked. The facility is clean and well maintained. My parents really like living here, and have made new friends. I think anyone who needs a more simplified lifestyle would love living here.

As a local Senior Provider, this community is stunning. Tucked away so its quiet, the staff are extremely helpful and attentive. Pet friendly and the best part is that their restaurant has meals 24hrs, so if a resident is hungry, there is always a meal provided. Don't forget to see their premium apartments, what a beautiful space!

I love this place! Every time I visit, they have something going on, activities for the residents, and they seem happy. The staff here is also very nice and friendly. I enjoy working with Everett and Veronica. I highly recommend it!

The staff is attentive and caring. They provide many amenities but you can still be as independent as you wish to be. The socialization is a big plus and knowing there is someone to help should the need arise is very reassuring. Veronica was amazing with to work with & helpful when we brought a family member there from out of state. I highly recommend.

My initial tour was very enjoyable. I was able to ask all the questions and visit different apartments. I love the fact that there is music playing at the lobby/cafeteria area. The place looks very clean and the hallways don't smell. The residents seem very happy to be there.

The Continental is a lovely place. All staff members are friendly and welcoming. The decor is wonderful and inviting. The room for my mom and stepfather is lovely and comfortable.
March 2025
I am really glad that I moved here. I love the fact that if I don't want what's on the menu, there are a number of options. I don't need to cook! 🙂 I really appreciate the once a week housekeeping. I really like the games that we play. The staff really seems to care about us residents.
January 2025
Great place, great staff. Lovely facility and a wonderful community feeling. Everybody I see and everybody I’ve talked to has been absolutely delightful. Helped an 83-year-old friend of mine move into the place recently, and they have all been wonderful and helping him acclimate to the big change. Always a big crowd in the restaurant/dining room, and always a group doing some sort of activity. Special shout out to Veronica and Octavia ‘
January 2025
I highly recommend moving here if you want an active lifestyle. Jennifer is so great at keeping the residents active and happy. Veronica is so warm and professional to talk to and can answer any questions about your move. Jose always has a smile and is always so helpful with anything relating to maintenance.

My mother lived at this community and really loved it! After her husband died she became very lonely but once she moved into The Continental she made many friends who really loved her and enjoyed a variety of activities and events provided by the team on site. She was well taken care of during the pandemic which really put my mind at ease. When she passed, the on site manager, Everette and his entire team were very supportive and thoughtful. The property, amenities and common areas are well taken care of and my mother’s apartment was beautiful and had everything she needed to be comfortable. I highly recommend The Continental to any senior citizen looking for a place to call home.

I was really impressed with how clean and well kept the facility was inside and out. The grounds are beautiful and it’s a very peaceful spot tucked away in the trees. Inside was clean and appeared recently remodeled. Finance person was out so front desk provided the tour. Not perfect but sufficient to our needs and friendly. Residents were so welcoming and kind. One offered to show us her own apartment to compare. One bedroom options were nice sized with small kitchen and patio, walk in shower with handrails. We plan to pursue an apartment for our 94yo Aunt who we think will like it.

The Continental is a wonderful independent living community tucked back into the greenbelt. It's surrounded by big lovely trees and a nice walking path. The apartments are spacious and many have nice balconies. It's a bustling community, there's always an activity or a meal going on, and everyone there is so friendly! Kristin Howard is passionate about her job and a great resource for families.

September 2019
The staff does a wonderful job!!! I would especially like to mention the work done by Erin Garcia...she does everything with a smile, does a great job of making us feel comfortable and is very meticulous in her work. Our room is kept very clean and the young lady goes out of her way to make sure we are very well accommodated. If everyone, in every job, took on the same attitude as this young lady, there would never be a need to complain about service. Thank you, Erin!
September 2019
What can I say besides this place is great! Your family (or yourself) will be taken care of completely. The servers who help with food are great. They are patient and take their time with my father. They cut up his food and sit and talk when they have time. You hear horror stories all the time about how your elders are treated at places, but not here. Even the ladies that clean his room have him laughing at ease. They really do go above an beyond.
September 2019
This retirement community is beautiful... first off, the facility itself has a great location... away from the main street and backed into a picturesque creek. When you first walk in, there is a very grand high ceiling and on one of the beams there is a beautiful quote, and a large living room, card tables, piano, and a fireplace, so quaint and wonderful. But, even better than all that are the staff. The one person that stood out the most was Erin Garcia... a shining star. Her smile is so sweet and she is so warm and welcoming. Her food service skills were attentive and would be at home in a five star restaurant... she is a jewel in a first rate establishment that receives my highest recommendation!
September 2019
The Continental is a beautiful retirement community tucked away from the street. so amazing how they allow the residents to have pets of their own and tons of activities, classes , vast variety of foods to feast on & also special guest performers that come by every so often to entertain their residents! I must speak on how clean it is there from the polished furniture onto the upkeep of their front door/parking lot. Erin Garcia really does do her job with loving, communicating and giving her all to keeping the building as 100% as it needs to be! I highly recommend living there!

The housekeeping staff is amazing! Erin Garcia sure knows how to keep the front desk and common areas squeaky clean! She makes sure there's no fingerprints anywhere or any signs of spider webs... and Lord knows I hate spiders! Lol I definitely recommend staying at The Continental when I'm of age, it is such a beautiful place with tons of classes and fun activities to join!

Stephany James does a fantastic job working at the Continental. She has a love for the residents there and it’s returned back to her by them. Seems to be one of the better places in Austin
September 2017
This place is pretty dated and worn. These used to be college dorms. The needs of seniors are very different than those of young people out on their own for the first time. Most of the front line staff I encountered were pleasant enough. They advertise "chef prepared" meals but both times I've been here, the residents were eating a mere sandwich for dinner. Is a basic grilled cheese sandwich really considered gourmet? My biggest concerns here surround safety. They have folks in wheelchairs on all floors and some on oxygen but no back-up generators for emergency. During hurricane Harvey, the power was out for days. A resident that needed to get out for dialysis had to call the fire department to get carried out and getting back in was an even bigger challenge. Folks had no way to recharge cell phones, tablets etc to keep in touch with families, friends and medical staff. There was no management on staff all weekend and when someone reached out to the media to draw attention to their plight, news staff were interested but were blocked from accessing the facility and threatened. Nice place...I hope no one else I know ends up there.

This facility is better. Staff is friendly and helpful management is promt on taking care of issues that are of concerned.
