Had a wonderful experience visiting this facility. Michelle in the office is extremely quick to respond. Stops what she is doing and gives her full attention when someone walks in her office. Very friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming! Rhonda is great also. She took us on a tour and was ready to jump in and assist. It’s evident the staff all communicate well because there was a walkthrough scheduled with another staff member who ended up sick the day of the appointment, rather then call and cancel the walkthrough, Rhonda jumped right in and started where Michelle left off. Teamwork is apparent at Rio Grande Gracious living. All the staff were kind and welcoming.

Food is mediocre. Sometimes good, other times bad. Our apartment is very nice and the people here are wonderful. Activities here can keep you busy.

My mother has lived at the Rio Grande for 3.5 years now. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday. We had a wonderful family celebration made extra special by the Managers Oasha and Brian I can’t thank them enough for going the extra mile. It’s reassuring to know that my mom resides in a such a caring loving environment!!

The environment is so warm and the air is pure. The directors always listen to what we need and support us with love and kindness. The activities are varied to have something for everyone. In the past 10 years, I have lived in two other independent living facilities. Neither one of them made me feel as warm and Inviting. The facility is beautiful inside and out. Living here makes me feel like I have a family I can depend upon. Everything needed is provided even snacks 24 seven. Using the housekeeping service is fantastic. They clean the apartment and provide clean sheets on the bed and towels every week. With three hot meals, a day being provided you know that you will not go hungry. Local transportation is provided for you daily. You’re every need is provided with warmth from the directors.

My mother-in-law lives here and I can say this place is WONDERFUL! She says the food is overall really good with lots of veggie choices and great desserts. Plenty of fun and varied activities and on-site management is truly stellar. From touring with Michelle to the maintenance director being on top of things, we couldn’t be happier with our decision to choose The Rio Grande.

Toured the Facility today and I was very impressed! I was greeted by a friendly face eager to help me, the pricing is very affordable and kept in immaculate condition. This is a place I would trust my own family to be without question. So many activities are available and events to be apart of here. You could not get bored at any point in time. Thank you and a shout out to Michelle. She took time to thoroughly go over options within the facility and didn’t spare any details to how fabulous it would be to be apart of this community.

We've been here only 2 weeks but first visited The Rio Grande six years ago. Our life circumstances finally resulted in our moving in. We have loved it. The change has been just what we needed. The managers, Oasha and Brian, are welcoming, competent, and caring. The food is regularly very good. [We toured many retirement communities and the food here was routinely the best.] Weekly housekeeping is great. We haven't participated in many activities yet, but definitely will. Retirement community choices are very personal, and The Rio Grande is definitely worth a visit and tour. You won't be disappointed!

This facility is more like FAMILY than a retirement center. Comforting and engaging. So happy we moved here!!!

Management is good and watchful of residents' well-being. Thank you! Maintenance is good, especially in an aging building. PLEASE budget more money for better quality daily food...not just for catering when having an open house for potential new residents. Please enforce "The Hawthorne Way" rules consistently... especially pets on leashes. Unleashed animals are safety hazards to those with walkers and wheelchairs. The animals can get hurt as well. Seasonal and holiday decor can be less extravagant (more money for better food). Don't lose your smiles! We know we seniors can be a handful and then some!

My father was only there for just over a month, but during that time I found the care he received was outstanding, being independent living, my father required a fair amount more assistance than they usually provide. They provided that care without hesitation. The management staff was very accommodating for my father and made his short stay pleasant. The food was very good and served in a true restaurant fashion. I wish my father had been able to stay longer, but life had other plans. AM the staff was very friendly, professional and helpful.

My aunt has just moved to the The Rio Grande she loves the community her smile when she talks about her new home all the activities they offer and the theater they have she loves movies too the fresh popcorn not to mention the BBQ event what amazing food to grilled hamburgers and hotdogs everything so fresh. Managers Nicholas Griego and Crystal Yazzie so kind to everyone and Crystal always smiling and kind. I would definitely recommend moving your loved one here. I’m at ease knowing there is 24/7 management on site. I know I can call and management always ready to help all with servant hearts.

This place is amazing it is very clean does not smell like a nursing home, staff very informative and kind and the food is great they had a barbecue and we were invited what an experience. 5 STARS for the COOK and STAFF. Thank you!
July 2025
The managers, Crystal Yazzie and Nick Griego, are incredibly helpful and supportive. I’m truly grateful that my loved one is being cared for at this facility it brings me peace of mind knowing she is in such good hands. I highly recommend The Rio Grande to anyone seeking quality care for their family member.

Great staff
April 2025
A friend of mine invited me to have lunch with her. I wasn't expecting to have how your staff treated the people that lived there. From the very friendly, very professional house maid, to the chef. Everyone was so respectful, and nice. They treated me as well as them. I didn't know how to act in dinning room, was like I was eating at a four star restaurant. All the wait staff was as good or better that any place in town.. I knew my friend was in good hands. Thank you all again... p.s my friend has no complaints!
April 2025
The Rio is a truly excellent retirement community. The building is well decorated and maintained, light and airy (a major renovation was done in 2024). Management lives here, available 24/7. They are alert and caring. Activities are ongoing; attend or not, as you like. The grounds around the building are superb, including A Park Above, a huge and happy place. A dog park and a bocce ball court are adjacent. Hikers can walk miles along the Cabezon arroyo. Three meals a day are served in the elegant dining room and the food is wonderful, from chicken & waffles to superb prime rib. Life doesn't get any better!

Beware: I went to drop some residents off and parked under the cover parking. I called about parking before hand and was told to park anywhere. Apparently their employees think other wise. In the process of waiting this car comes up and starts honking at me. He yelling at me to move and that I’m in his parking spot. I was unclear why I needed to move seeing that there aren’t designated parking. When I asked why and he said cause he was a resident and that was his parking spot. So I moved and parked in another post. He then proceeded to walk over to some other men working and pointed at me and they then moved their car right next to mine making it hard for me or anyone to get into my car. Which again forced me to move again. Come to find out this man is an employee and I guess that’s his favorite spot. So I guess scaring people out of the area is a common practice.. I’m curious if this man is always bullying and scaring people over a parking spot. I can’t imagine what he does to the residents. I have informed the residents that I talk to about the situation and hope that they have reported this person.

I have lived here at the Rio Grande for almost 4 years. We have recently undergone a renovation of the common areas. It looks Great. The management team is top notch. I have digestive problems and have some issues with the food. The residents are all very friendly and welcoming. My best recommendation is that I would not live anywhere else!
August 2024
I was there a year, spent 6 months trying to find a place to move to. Food was bad, complaints were discouraged, attitude of manager was poor, to explain please see his post of Feb. 10Th, that will give you insight into what a resident receives. Place too expensive for the all around poor quality delivered.

My parents lived here for 4 years before they needed assistance. The place was clean and clients were happy. I was allowed to eat with them once in a while. Food was okay and portions were just right. Enjoyed when kids or visitors would come in and give a lovely show. Fun activities and took trips to the state fair and Balloon fiesta. Hope they are around if I need it in the future.
April 2024
Absolutely amazing property! I can't wait to move in soon. This property has everything I need (and more). Smiling friendly staff and residents that make you feel at home. I wish I could rate it with ten stars!

My husband and I have been living at the Rio Grande for four months. The managers, Lisa and Lee and Shannon and Michael, provide the leadership that creates a true sense of warmth and community. These managers are very "hands-on," serving and cleaning tables and even serving as chefs, which is most unusual for administrators. They keep this ship sailing smoothly and hire the best people to maintain it.When any problems arise, they address them quickly and efficiently. We very much enjoy living here.
September 2023
September 2023
After Lisa and Lee may be well intentioned and since they took over their lack of hospitality is disappointing.
July 2023
Will give a 95% out of 100 % as like everything else, there are 5 % bad residents.
June 2023
I left for the hospital early one morning. My managers called my children to tell them I didn't look good. They called later that day to check with my children to make sure I was ok.. They left and evening meal in my refrigerator.
June 2023
My grandmother, before she passed, resided at the Rio Grande. She and the family loved it so much, it was even mentioned in her obituary. Now, years later more family members have resided at the Rio Grande. My daughter remembers visiting family when she was little and almost a decade later, is still visiting family. We have loved the Rio Grande for ages! Heather is an amazing chef. Lee and Gary live up to the name and are both gracious and caring, especially when it comes to the residents. Every week, the bingo, happy hour, horse races and rummikub are favorites! The theater is spacious (and the fresh popcorn delicious)! The impressive exercise room caters to an aging community and takes the physical limitations of the residents into consideration. The game room is similarly well-equipped and the beautiful library has a phenomenal collection of books that I love to go through when I visit. I could go on and on. My whole family owes the Rio Grande many, many thanks for the hospitality and great care for all of our loved ones throughout the years!
June 2023
I recently attended a staff thrown prom for the residents. It was a reversal of time to see the residents dancing and conversating over wonderful treats that included a chocolate fountain. The genuine smiles from both staff and residents showed the work of the manger Gary and his staff to be both professional , respectful and caring. The event had a live DJ, photo both and a late evening sweet center. A day that you can tell will be in the residents hearts. An amazing job well done by the event coordinator.

Today I had the pleasure to visit my grandmother at The Rio Grande Gracious Retirement Living. This place was very grand as soon as you walk through the doors. All the staff were gracious and attentive. Outstanding establishment at the Rio Grande Gracious retirement Living. I want to thank all the staff members for exceptional work.

Beautiful accommodations, friendly staff and atmosphere welcoming and comfortable. Thank you for the wonderful service and hospitality during our stay.
May 2022
I left after two months because they will promise you the world but they aren't able to meet those promises. I'm a vegetarian and they had salads for me, and baked potatoes, but even a high protein dish like beans & rice was difficult to get. I especially liked the children's park next door. It was delightful to walk down there.
May 2022
I toured the facility in Rio Rancho, NM and was thoroughly impressed by the property, the employees and the residents. I found a community of super friendly people. The residents during the tour all said good morning, inquired about whether I planned to move into the property and expressed their total satisfaction with living there. Several even said that its a great place. The facility is beautiful and looks to be well maintained. They have many amenities including a gym, access to an external park located next to the property, a friendly activities director, and a theater and chapel among other things. The individual taking me on the tour was the marketing director, Michele Marcon who is responsible for community sales. I found Michele to be personable and genuinely interested in providing the best tour possible. I was shown several beautifully decorated apartments as we engaged in a friendly conversation during the tour. Michele even invited me to have a meal with in the dining hall at the property so that I could meet and engage in conversation with other residents to get their perspective on the place. I did return 2 days after the tour for a lunch meal and was further impressed by the kindness and care of the employees and was delighted by openness and friendliness of the residents I met. This property is at the top of my list as I move into retirement at the end of this year.

My mother moved onto the Rio Grande over 3 and a half years ago. It has been a great experience for her. She has made friends and they tend to look out for one another. The managers Minette and David have been terrific. Over the past year they have worked tirelessly to ensure the residents and staff were safe during the COVID pandemic. My mother always tells me how helpful all of the staff is, especially Lee the handyman, Ginger the activities director and all of the servers. She says the servers go out of the way to be helpful and pleasant. If your family member is looking for independent living give The Rio Grande a look. It's served my mother very well.

It has been a true pleasure to be a resident here.

The Rio Grande has been a wonderful new home for my mother. It’s fun joining her for meals, movies, popcorn, and 24/7 ice cream at the complex. She has made many friends and is always busy with activities, games, and events hosted by the Rio Grande. The location next to A Park Above is also perfect for her daily walks. What a great place for Mom! (Thanks to a very supportive staff, too)

Was looking for a place for my parents, went to a lot of different places and The Rio Grande was the nicest one we have found in the Albuquerque area. The staff was great and the food was out of this world. It is a beautiful building with a indoor theater, library, and gym. My parents love it and will be moving in. They offered them a trial stay and said it was a great place. I have not seen them happier. If you are looking for your love ones, I recommend The Rio Grande above all others.
May 2016
My grandmother lives here and it is truly an amazing place. A hired chef cooks all of the meals, and are pretty delicious. There is a movie theater, a library, and so many more amenities for the residents.
March 2015
I moved my mom into a one bedroom on April 15, 2013 and have spent quite a bit of time with her. The food is fantastic and the facilities are top notch. My husband calls it a cruise ship with a zip code! My mom is extremely happy, and my mind is at ease with the excellent facilities and the caring and loving staff. I can recommend this facility with no reservations, and I am a former social worker and am now a chaplain....
