Cassie, Taylor, and the entire staff at University Place have gone above and beyond to accommodate the needs of my parents. Despite their moving from Idaho to Abilene, they have all made the transition much smoother than I had anticipated. I'm very grateful to each of them for their kindness, compassion, and help throughout the process. They have been the answer to my prayers.

Jerry and I are beginning our 9th month here. We are very happy. The menues always have a treat to eat at each meal giving you the opportunity to meet your appetite. There are lots of activities and entertainment. The atmosphere is not only friendly it is filled with a sweet spirit of faith and generosity. The housekeepers are very good and have an attitude to please. Our servers at meals are amazing and gracious and it is a hard job. They are sweet and cute!! Always helpful and kind!! This is a great place, and the front office staff are friendly and very helpful. Jana miller the concierge is always going above and beyond helping all the residents. I see residents all the time going to her with their everyday needs and problems and she handles them while also keeping everything running smoothly. Great job Jana Miller and rest of the front office.

Went to a community sale on Friday and really enjoyed it. All residents came to me telling how special Jana is. I already knew but felt so good to hear her being bragged on. Jana will always be a very caring of elderly residents. Im proud of what she has become..

Janet Smith and I about to start our 5th month of Residence at University Place. We very impressed with our new home and made our choice carefully after living on the Texas Gulf Coast since 2011. This is not the coast but is sure is a wonderful home like atmosphere to us. We arrived here with a mattress in a box and a sofa as well as our clothing, towels and bed linens. Then days of Amazon deliveries began for furniture and home items. We love furniture but I will admit it was quite a chore to assemble but now it is a done deal. We had no lived in a residence setting since college days so it took some getting used to. Our food service is great and pretty consistent but sometimes a little off. But I owned a bar and restaurant for years and issues always happened. The staff is friendly and always do their best. Probably better than I did. We appreciate them and their service and try to tell them so after every meal. There are lots of activities to stay busy with. Sharon and Jerry Smith

I recently toured University Place (March 2026), and I was so impressed! I was ready to move in that very day! The food smelled delicious (I didn’t have an opportunity to try - maybe on another visit!). The one bedroom apartment was larger than the two-bedroom apartment I currently rent! It would have provided plenty of space for me, my two cats, and my grandchildren when they visit. I had NO idea that University Place provided three meals a day. These days I do very little cooking and mostly microwave little dinners, so this was most unexpected but great, because I love good food! I was also excited to learn that should I feel the need for a little help, there is an arrangement with Home Instead with staff on premises every week day. Currently I don’t need any help, but that was good to learn so that I could age in place for some time prior to having to move again to Assisted Living or a Nursing Home, if at all. I was able to speak briefly, yet meaningfully, with several residents. And they all struck me as happy and content. I just cannot say enough nice things about University Place! Taylor was extremely helpful and answered most of my questions before I had a chance to ask. There are so many unique features about University Place to rank it high on my list of Independent Communities. But you MUST schedule a tour and see it for yourself. A little background about myself. I am 72 years old living independently in a very old apartment here in Abilene. I have some balance issues, and my current apartment has no modifications for an older person like myself. It’s been recommended that I use my walker full-time, and yet the doorways in my current apartment are not wide enough for an old-fashioned folding walker to pass through. So I have been looking for something safer - like wide hallways and doorways, a flat entryway instead of steps, and a walk-in shower with grab bars in the bathroom - so that I could continue being independent. University Place fulfilled and exceed my dreams for my next home. I am currently stuck in a lease, but I would love very much for University Place to be in my future. Check it out - you too will be impressed!

I absolutely love this place. Taylor is the best and I can’t say enough about the Chef, Ryder!!!! We have delicious meals Three times a day. And snacks in between. I love all the people here and the staff is absolutely fantastic! Casi, Teresa, Janna , maggie and James! Michelle has activities for us like, crafts and bingo and celebrations. When I went into the Chaple the first time I felt like I was in Heaven. I have two little dogs who are so happy here. We have nice yards we can walk in and play. I thank God everyday for my peaceful life at University Place Independent living! I know I’ve probably forgotten some of the people I would like to Mention, but there is no one here that isn’t a pleasant person. I love my life here!!!

I have not one complaint about University Place, Abilene, TX. Staff members are so patient and kind. They genuinely care about their residents. As a family member, if there are any concerns, they communicate that to me. A special shout out to Jana, Maggie and Theresa as these are the people I communicate more with. But I have witnessed so many acts of kindness from all the staff that I couldn’t list them all.

My grandmothers apartment looks AMAZING. The rooms look recently remodeled and updated, and the atmosphere is very homey. The activities keep her plenty busy, and the food is really good! All things the considered the price is more than fair for all the amenities they offer!

It's very clean in the common areas and tenants are very friendly and so is the staff. Maggie knows her tenants and where they live and can give you directions to their apartments. She's a very knowledgeable Sweetheart at this place....

I had no problem moving in or out of UP, I lived there two years, the problem I faced was bedbugs, they came in from the room next to mine, When I moved I sprayed all my bedding, already had a protective cover on my mattress, After moving into a Condo that was clean and new panel flooring installed, The bedbugs moved with me, Two years later I tore my bed apart for the fifth time and hopefully and praying they are gone, I have sprayed and sprinkled Hot Shot Bed Bug Killer Dust with Diatomaceous Earth, Treatment for Bed Bugs all around even on the boxsprings mattress, on the area where my head lays, on the inside of my pillows, the half of the bed between the sheets, I have not seen them for a week praying they are killed, Thanks to UP I have remember them everyday for two years

I just moved into University Place independent Living for seniors. I think it was the best decision I have made since my husband past away in 2019. The staff is wonderful and can't seem to do enough to help with the move in. They are very nice and I believe they are completely genuine in everything they do. The other residents are just as nice and willing to help in any way they can to help to make the transition easy and to welcome you into the fold to make this your home. The food is great, I love my apartment and there is something to do everyday to enjoy and to inter act with everyone else. I never have to be lonely again. Sincerely, Shirley, Abilene, TX.

The staff have been amazing in helping our parents. They are always helpful when we call and ask for assistance. Which is helpful as myself and siblings all live out of state. Nice clean warm and welcoming.

We researched all the Independent Living and Assisted Living Places in Abilene Tx. We excluded smaller options because we were looking for active social experiences with many people. There is no question that this is our choice. We are on the waiting list for the unit we want. My husband who is a pretty negative guy and not thrilled with moving toured with me on my 3rd tour. He could not say enough good things about the dining experience, feels like dining in a fine restaurant. Selections are good and you can eat as much as you want. Servers were terrific. Best of all residents are so friendly! Several came over to introduce themselves, encouraging the move, and inviting him to attend various men functions with them. The Director said they want it to feel like "family" and it does. While we were there a woman fell and the Director immediately excused herself from us to attend to the lady, calling EMS, running to get pillows for the lady to be more comfortable while waiting, and she sat on the floor holding the lady's hand until EMS arrived. She apologized for delaying us but she said that is just how they do it, the resident's safety and comfort are number one. MANY activities to choose from including sing-a-longs and Blue Grass concerts on Thursday nights. Can't wait until our unit becomes available!

My mother recently moved out of her apartment after 7 years. Before she left, bed bugs were brought into the facility. My mother had not traveled anywhere, had not spent the night out and did not bring them in. There were also bed bugs in 5 other apartments. The managers told my brother that they would treat the apartment, and she would not have to pay. They ended up having to heat treat the apartment. Low and behold, she was charged on her next bill for all the treatments, the heat treatment was over $1000. in total she paid $2000 for bedbugs that she did not bring in to UP, when we were told by the manager we would only have to pay to have her clothes cleaned. Then when she moved out after keeping her apartment very clean, she was charged another $1190 in cleaning fees for normal wear for a one bedroom apartment. I would have given 0 stars, but she did enjoy living there and most of the trouble was recent.

My mother actually lived at University Place about five years ago before she passed away. So it was logical for me at this point in my life looking for a place to live that I would look look there. I cannot tell you how welcome I was made to feel how friendly not only the staff, but the other residence were. I am one week away from actually moving in and I cannot wait. If you were in the Abilene area and need an independent living home with friendly people, you really need to give University Place a look.
