After my dad had a stroke, he wasn't able to do things he once did. We asked a service to help us find the best possible accommodations for him. We toured numerous programs and had to decide between two. The specialist said the food is way better at Heartis, it's served on real plates (not styrofoam), and with table cloths. As food is important to dad, we chose Heartis. SO glad we did! Dad said he feels like he's on a cruise ship with as many activities as Ms. Jo Jo plans daily and Chef Phil and his team create beautiful meals. JoJo has different companies come in each week that provide live music, animal hugs, happy hour, interactive Historian lectures, in house hairdresser, PT/OT, support groups, and once a month she collaborates with Chef to throw a giant themed party for residents and family members. Dad can't believe he has someone who does his laundry, cleans his apartment, cooks his meals etc. He said- it's like a cruise ship. "The only time I lift a finger is when I want my drink refilled and someone comes running over to do it." I'm overjoyed with how happy he is. He has friends again, is active again and is even in charge of Trivia on Fridays. The care staff really do care about my dad and treat him like family. We are so very blessed to have found Heartis.

Run, don’t walk away from this hellscape. Looks are deceiving- looks beautiful, but don’t let it fool you. Our mother was there for 8 months. All seemed ok at first, but when the management changed so did everything else. In the time mom was there - 4 different directors and there was a period of time with NO director. It was a friggin mess. If we hadn’t had cameras in her room , we would have never known all the lapses in care. There were missed doctor visits, hygiene issues, missed meals - one day mom didn’t get a meal until 5pm as someone either failed to deliver it or ate it. The last insult was when after giving the appropriate notice that mom was leaving and her vacating before the end of her last month, they continued to draw her payment the next month. I took many aggravating contacts to get the money back. And finally- try finding contacts for their headquarters. You won’t find it. And when I asked the staff for the headquarters info, this was their exact words: “ I am not at liberty to give you that information”. Like I said - run don’t walk.

Good afternoon Everyone. I would like to put a small write up together on the culinary side of things. I have been the Executive chef here at Heartis for 1 year and 24 days and counting. As I stepped in Immediate changes were made for the better. I adjusted the menu to the residents likes. We added in food items that were well liked and also popular. We also added in doing theme events, where we really stepped up and put together a great presentation of the foods. We also include Memory care for this, should they not be able to attend, we would send them the foods so they can enjoy it as well. we did the same for the Room trays we prepare and sent to their rooms. I am very active in the role of speaking with the residents, and getting to know their likes and dislikes, including specific diets that we adhere to with some, using the special meals we are serving set to the diet of each resident that has a special need. Our teams are very positive and we all work together to make sure what we do daily with our cooking is fresh vibrant, nice looking plating, and tasteful. I am also posting a few photos of some of our foods we have done, to show the creativity we have and the flair for presenting the food we serve here at Heartis San Antonio, Texas. I have been on a long adventure trying to figure out what would best work for my mom who has dementia. My family started noticing her memory over the past 5 years and since she lives by herself earlier this year I decided to have an at home care giving service hired for her. She didn't like it because she felt like she was being babysat. Her neurologist recommended she couldn't drive anymore so that is another reason why I needed people to care for her on a daily basis so that if she needed anything she could get there. After about a year of this, I used 'A place for Mom' to help me look at Assisted Living communities around San Antonio. I looked at about 4 communities and seriously fell in LOVE with Heartis. First, there was no smell! Sorry, that was one of the first things on my check list that i was not wanting my mom to live with. But most of all, I enjoyed the energy of the community, the director Stacey was so informative and could answer all of my questions. She encouraged me to join their FB page which I did and that was helpful too so that I could see all the fun they had with the residents as well as all the thought and love and planning that went into EVERY DAY at Heartis. I decided to finally decided to have my mom moved in and over a period of a month and lots of coaching from both Stacey and Diane my mom was moved it. It has been almost a month now and no matter what I can get ahold of either of these ladies so that they can answer any questions or concerns I have as we are dealing with mom's change in residence. Oh! I forgot that during the month I was working to move mom in, Diane had suggested that mom start attending some of their daily activities. So we looked at the Calendar and Diane went to pick up my mom to take her to her first activity and she had SO Much Fun! They looked at the calendar after she went home and scheduled more play dates for her to go and visit and get used to the community and residents. Then when the day came to move her in, it wasn't easy. I had to tell her that her house was not safe at this moment and I needed to do repairs on it and oh it just so happens that Heartis has a 'suite' available for her to stay in. This suite is a room I had been working on to decorate and get ready for her. She wasn't happy, but each day she LOVES all the activities. She was always saying how bored she was at home. The only current issues that we are going through in this first month is that when she has a second of downtime (which there is not alot of downtime) she starts to call family and friends to ask when she is going home. Everyone just tells her as soon as her house is ready and then the subject gets changed and she is off to the next activity. I have been told that in the short time she has been there is now helping lead activities and really getting to be a part of the community. I get pictures almost everyday of mom as well as updates and recommendations based on certain situations. The staff is super gentle and sweet with her and very encouraging to me and my aunt. When I start to have feelings of guilt I just say to myself 'mom is safe' over and over. Just in the brief time I have been a part of the Heartis family I can honestly say I LOVE them!

My 96 year old mother has lived at Heartis San Antonio since January 2023. Everyone is so VERY KIND to her and everyone always cheerfully addresses her by name, including the executive director whose door is always open. The staff even becomes familiar with family members' names and cheerfully address them. I love the in-house hair salon for men and women and Linda does some great styling!!!! The in-house physical therapy is WONDERFUL as well and even helps in some of the caregiver training! Some residents also enjoy the occasional Happy Hours and Ice Cream Socials at times. As a result of my dealings with the executive director, the front desk with tons of information, maintenance, caregivers, med techs, activities, the kitchen including the head chef who also knows residents' names and chats with them, and on and on; I have become very very happy with Heartis. All staff listens to any concerns you or your loved one may have, checks into it and gets back to you. Your concerns are not brushed under the rug!!! I love my mother's room. As soon as you open the door to leave her room you see a cozy setting of a sofa and comfy chairs as well as an eating type of round table and chairs great for putting together jigsaw puzzles. All of this overlooks the beautiful courtyard easily accessible through the French doors and then onto either covered porches or walking or wheeling on the sidewalks among the gorgeous landscaping. Someone from the rehabilitation hospital suggested Heartis for my mom to me and I am so very glad they did. You see, my mom showed signs of dementia prior to her fall and surgery and I had looked at many many assisted living places but never saw Heartis. When I did I knew it was the place for my mother. As you probably know, it just has to be the right fit for our loved ones! Again it is beautiful and very accommodating to all residents living in either assisted living or memory care. If you have a loved one needing a little extra something or a lot more of something, please look at Heartis San Antonio. I highly recommend it!

Heartis is an exceptional place, or better yet, home. My father stayed at Heartis of San Antonio and received wonderful professional care with a genuine sense of love from the staff. The director (Casey Brill) went above and beyond to accommodate all his needs as well as the many "needs" of the family, while establishing a personal relationship with my father. The staff, from the housekeeping staff to the medical staff and everyone in-between, were always professional and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The facilities are beautiful, and the resident entertainment schedule is superbly planned out and executed. The financial piece was easy to navigate with very good communication and ease of contact. I can't say enough about Heartis. It was an incredible blessing for my father and family.

We were met by Casey Brill, the executive director. Very nice and does not beat around the bush. A beautiful campus. Seems to be very well run. I liked that the dinning room was open from morning to evening with meal or snacks available any time. There was a wide variety of food available and only fresh ingredients. The amenities were great! And having a full rehab and RN and LVN on staff for medical issues is a bonus. The one bedroom apartments were very nice as was the two bedroom. We were looking for a two bedroom two bath which is what they have, however there was no area for living room furniture, even the smallest amount unless you turned the small bedroom into a living room. There is room for a small dinette or a couple of chairs. The bathrooms was where the space was, they were very big, had a built in bench in the shower that lifts up and out of the way., A full linen closet and 4 drawers on either side of the sink.in both bathrooms. All of the residents we talked to loved living there and the price was very reasonable. I wish we could have lived there.

Heartis San Antonio is an amazing group of caretakers that are compassionate, knowledgeable, patient and understanding. Anyone in this time of life understands that it takes a great deal of energy and its a stressful toll for family. Casey, the executive director and Nicole the marketing director not only say everything that will help you feel comfortable but they and the rest of the team fully follow through. When my mom went into assisted living, they gave her a personalized welcome and gifts that truly reflected her personality because they took the time to ask me about her. She had been at a different facility before where she never even met the executive director. Casey was in there every day her first week and even months later, still stops by her place to check in and chat for a while. While this new lifestyle has been an adjustment, especially during COVID, Heartis has done anything and everything they can to be open, transparent and helpful in caring for my mom. Whats most important is that she enjoys it there and she feels safe. Im truly grateful for them.

It is always so very difficult to have to find a place where your parent can rest during the last part of their life. Four yeas ago I was faced in making a decision in looking for a place for my mom. I probably visited every assisted living facility in San Antonio. We had already decided on a place , but one weekend I drove by Heartis and decided to stop and take a look. I was very impressed with the staff who gave me a tour. I took my mom there for a tour the next week and she liked Heartis best over all the places we visited. My mom lived at Hearts for almost four years and was always respected and heard and that treatment was the the same for her family as well. We were always listened to what we had to say. Casey Brill, the administrator, is a great, kind and compassionate person. He and his staff did the very best they could for my mom. He also recommended the best Hospice company and they also did a fine job for my mom. What everyone needs to keep in mind, no place can replace our own home, but Heartis is the best place next to home. My mom passed away two months ago and I miss her so very much. I am forever greatful to Casey and his staff how they handled the last days of her life and continue to check in with me.

My dad has been here maybe a year or so. The first thing is, For people considering to know, none of these places are without challenges. Yes they are expensive so we have very high expectations. The more involved the family is the better off for your Loved ones. Frequent And clear communication is a must. I will say the staff is very caring as is Casey. Its not just a sales job, he really does care and is extremely patient and understanding. If he can make it happen he will and he will do everything possible to help. He has gone above and beyond for us and I know were not the only ones hes gone out of his way for. Same for the staff. Yes there is turnover. This is a difficult industry to be in. So you know the people that have been here a while are really committed and they have taken such good care of my dad. Paula, Traci, Stephanie and Lori are amazing. And there are others just as good. Realize the reasons for an issue can be complicated. We chose heartis because its beautiful and small enough where you really get to know everyone. I have no question it was the right decision and we are lucky to be here.
