My dad was a resident of Magnolia Place Assisted Living for almost 5 years. He recently passed away while in hospice care - provided at Magnolia Place. The hospice provider and Magnolia Place personnel worked well together and made the transition as smooth as possible. We are so grateful for their care, concern, and compassion. Dad received excellent service and attention while living at Magnolia Place. Dad had strong opinions and if he hadn’t liked the facility, care givers, or the food, we definitely would have heard about it during our frequent visits. But that wasn’t the case. The administrative employees were always pleasant to work with and communication from the Executive Director was excellent. When we initially researched assisted living facilities in Bakersfield, my husband and I felt we would be happy living at Magnolia Place in the future if our circumstances warranted. Since we could see ourselves living there, we felt that was a pretty good gauge to use for Dad . . . and thankfully, we still feel the same way. While it wasn’t an easy decision to place Dad in assisted living, it was the right decision and Magnolia Place was the right home. ’

This place is so nice! It is warm and welcoming and feels so homey. They have beautiful rooms, friendly staff and fun activities. It is always clean and smells nice. Last week there was a petting zoo that myself and my daughter enjoyed. The food is gourmet and lots of choices. There is even a salon, theater, etc.

My mother was nervous about moving from her home and into an assisted living community but Magnolia Place made it easy! We looked at several places but it was Magnolia Place that felt the most active and caring. Mom has been there for over 6 months now and we couldn't be happier with our decision. The staff there are great to communicate with us and we feel a part of the family there. I eat with my mom often and I have enjoyed the food there each time. The activities are fun and plentiful. Magnolia Place repeatedly lives up to the promises made when we first signed up! Christine promised us the our mother would be well cared for when she moved in. We were nervous and apprehensive as this was a huge move for our mom. She was also very nervous about living there. But within one week of living there full time, our mom was extremely touched by how nice every single staff member is. On her 2nd week, she was telling us what a lovely place Magnolia Place is. She has now been there for almost a month and she continues to be impressed with how helpful and kind the staff are. We could not be more pleased with this facility! They go above and beyond to care for their residents and their family members!! I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for the best care for their parent.

. Our mom is a retired 1st grade teacher who values her independence and enjoyed the retirement community she was living in. A few months ago however, our mom had several falls in her home, (Fortunately nothing broken!) within a short period of time.. We knew, it was no longer safe for her living on her own and having round the clock care in her home was impractical. After doing some research we came across Magnolia Place assisted living. We were given a tour of the place by Christine Chisolm and were instantly impressed by the cleanliness and the amenities MP had to offer. In less than a week, we were able to move my mom into her new apartment with her favorite things in place when she arrived plus a few new things as well! She was anxious at first and it was an adjustment for all us. Within a few weeks however, she settled into a routine and seemed happier than she had been in many months. She has been participating in nearly all the activities and particularly enjoys the Sunday service. The staff has been wonderful and goes out of their way not only to make the residents feel at home but the family members who come to visit as well. As of this writing, our mom has been at Magnolia Place for nearly 3 months and I can say with sincerity that we have no regrets choosing this assisted living for our dear mom. She is safe and cared for and it's a pleasure going to visit and taking her on outings. : ) ** A few words from our mom herself about Magnolia Place: They are well organized and the staff is very attentive. They help with cleaning and laundry. I enjoy the excellent menu and visiting with different people at meal time. Daily, they have different activities to choose from and I especially enjoy the "scenic rides" on the Magnolia bus! It's nice knowing that there is always someone close by when you need something. There are not enough stars to show how much we loved the facility and especially the staff. Our mom was there for 6+ years & we were always impressed with the loving care she received. As her mental & physical health declined, they were with her all along the way. When it was time for hospice to come they, especially, Emmie, made it happen over the weekend so that my mom received the pain relief she needed as soon as was humanly possible. It's amazing how good management it at hiring caring, competent employees at all levels. Angels, all.

Cannot say enough good about Magnolia Place. Although we first placed mom in another facility "down the street" because they would accept her in the assisted living community, we did consider that if Memory Care was necessary, Magnolia Place would be the choice. This was based on info and a tour provided by Christine from the marketing department. In God's timing, Christine called me out of he blue to check on my mom's situation on the very day the current assisted living said they needed to move my mom to their memory care due to an incident. We were not thrilled that she was going to have to move so quickly and into the memory care we were not sure of. which we expressed to Christine. She said to bring mom over right then for an assessment. We did and mom never left building after that first visit. She was so happy to be in Magnolia Place and they even sat mom down for dinner before any papers were signed. They immediately put furniture in the available room and it was a done deal! Both Christine and the Exec. Director, Mike Chapman, stayed late to ensure everything got done (on a Friday evening). The staff on duty made everything so smooth and worked diligently to put everything together making mom feel welcome. I should mention that during the first tour and upon showing up for the assessment, Mike was available and in public view, making his presence known and being visible. He was very friendly and outgoing, desiring to make us all feel welcome. I never met the exec. director at the other place! I will say last that the one overriding concern I was seeing is that they wanted to take care of mom's needs first and foremost before worrying about any of the paper work or payments. That speaks volumes and if you need this type of care for a loved one, I recommend them highly. Thank you Magnolia Place, Mike and Christine as well as your entire team!!!

Mom has been at Magnolia Place in their Memory Care Community for about 3 months now, and I have only praise for the facility, staff, and everyone I have come in contact with. From the first tour of the facility, we were made to feel "at home". Christine took the time to answer our many, many questions -- not once making us feel rushed -- and every person we came in contact with stopped to greet us. The staff was extremely accommodating during the "move in" process. Mom was able to visit before moving in, was treated with dignity and respect and invited to take part in the day's activity. I appreciate the daily schedule, routine, nutrition, and exercise mom is receiving. We can see that she is gaining physical strength. The mental stimulation and socialization are exactly what she needs. I appreciate the "field trips" on their private bus, which allows Mom to safely get out and enjoy a ride, ice cream, or other visit. Mom's room is kept neat and clean and her laundry is done. It is comforting to see her interact with both the residents and the staff. Staff is always eager to assist as needed. Crystal and the entire Memory Care staff are so very kind, encouraging, friendly, and patient! Although Mom is in the Memory Care Community, I appreciate that every staff member throughout Magnolia Place will stop to greet her, by name, offer a kind word, notice she got her hair or nails done, or compliment her in some way. I so appreciate that, upon her return to the community, Mom is greeted by each staff member who tells her they are happy to see her return and immediately engage her in whatever activity is currently taking place -- making Mom feel she belongs and that they have been eagerly waiting just for her. Thank you, Magnolia Place, for the care you are giving to mom.

My mother, now in her 90's, has been a resident at Magnolia for a few years now. The level of care she receives is first class. We kids always wish we were available to do for her the things the Magnolia staff do but alas, they are professionals and can do things so much better. In particular, I commend them for their communication. They are really good at keeping me informed if anything comes up that might cause us even the slightest concern. I also applaud them for the way they handled the Covid nightmare. It was difficult but the results speak for themselves. All the residents came through just fine.

I can't give enough praise for the individuals who work at Magnolia Place Assisted Living. They literally saved our lives! They stepped up and gave my sisters and me help with our mother when no other facility in Bakersfield would lift a finger to assist us. Mike Chapman, the Executive Director, personally helped arrange Mother's placement. The nurses, Kelly and Jessica have been absolutely amazing to work with. They have facilitated connecting with mother's doctor to make sure she was on the correct medications. Christine in Admissions and Crystal the Activities Coordinator have been supportive and outstanding. Mother's caregivers are gentle , attentive and reassuring. My first encounter with Magnolia Place was with Christine Chisholm in admissions, she is a wonderful lady that was able to give me peace of mind and her personal assurance that my mother would be well cared for. Honestly, that was an understatement! I was out of the country when I first made contact, Christine managed all of the paperwork with Memorial and had arranged transport for mother. Next was Sarah, she is another wonderful lady that was more focused on the medical condition. Sarah had made the medical exam at Memorial and was concerned that my mother may require a deeper level of care than was originally discussed. Then was the Manager of the facility Mike, he's a great gentleman and reassured me that my mom was in safe and competent hands. Magnolia lined up and scheduled transport, it was made flawlessly and mom is in her new place. Again, my mother was in a fragile state leaving the hospital, so I was a little worried but things went well. I had made arrangements for her living quarters (bed, clothes, linens, etc) since Covid restrictions were in place, that made things a little difficult, Mike's help made the situation easy! The first few days we had an adult night care service stay with her just so mom was comforted and incase she became disoriented, again, everything went perfect. As of this review my mother has been at Magnolia Place for two months. The delicate state I mentioned earlier disappeared during the first month. I believe it is due to her having constant care and interaction with the other adults and is involved with all of the activities that are planned throughout their busy day. She is eating regularly and has even gained a few pounds. Sarah has sent me numerous pictures and videos of my mom dancing, going on day trips to Wind Wolves nature preserve and just being the silly lady that she used to be. The Covid restrictions are still in place, but I get to visit her outside sitting at a table with plexiglass between us for her protection as well as the rest of their clients. These days, with all of the Covid restrictions in place, I'm just glad I can spend time with her, so its really not an inconvenience at all. I cannot forget about Karen, she's another awesome lady, you meet her at the front desk when entering. She has a great sense of humor!! So, two months into her stay at Magnolia, I could not be happier with her new living arrangements. Having a parent with dementia is difficult, finding a residence for her to live is even more difficult, there is a lot emotions going on and its challenging. I did quite a bit of research prior to choosing Magnolia and I'm glad I did. There are many choices in Bakersfield, but not as many quality facilities as one might think. The team at Magnolia made this entire experience simply amazing. I could never begin to thank them all or enough for the absolute commitment to my mother and her care. The entire staff that I have interacted with have been kind and reassuring that mom is safe, that's all I could ever ask for. Thank you Mike and your amazing team! Christian Cuen

For the past several years my mother has been living at Magnolia Place in Bakersfield. I can not overstate how happy she is living there. The entire staff treats her as if she is family, with love and care. Although she is now 100 years old, Mom is very active and loves all of the activities Alicia plans every day. Bingo, exercise class, bocce ball, balloon volleyball, brain teasers, group crossword puzzles, bible study, movies, and much more. I'm not kidding, Mom does them all. Mostly, my family appreciates the excellent health care and support she receives. My brothers and I are always kept informed about how she is doing and when we visit, we are welcomed with open arms. Magnolia Place feels like home.
