I made the very hard decision to move my Mom into a memory care facility. I chose Sand and Sage because it is in the same town my parents lived in and my Dad could visit Mom daily. The staff in memory care showed my Mom so much love and care. They were amazing to my Dad everyday when he came to eat lunch with her. I visited often and saw how they cared for the residents there. My Mom passed away a month ago due to congestive heart failure. Sand and Sage was so kind and helpful during her last days. It meant so much to my family to see the genuine care they had for my Mom. I still go visit the residents and staff of memory care because I got to know them so well and want to keep those connections. I so appreciate the care Mom received there.

My review is for the memory care wing only. I am not familiar with the Assisted Living Side of this facility. I admitted my husband with Alzheimers in January of 2025. His 1st month was somewhat uneventful. By February his decline was rapid and alarming. His behaviors were ever changing and I began making notes and paying very close attention to his environment. I was told that they had regular activities in memory care however in the 4 months my husband was there I never witnessed any activities at all. Every time I went there the residents were seen in the hallway or common area room just sitting there watching something on TV and sometimes sleeping. Often times the lights were off , even in the middle of the afternoon. I witnessed no staff interaction with the residents at all. It was not uncommon on the weekends to not even see any staff anywhere. You know they are there somewhere?? Staff turnover was extremely high and very few wore name tags so trying to know even the names of people caring for your loved one was difficult. By mid March my husband would sometimes be in a zombie like state, would not speak, just staring into space, unable to communicate. Other days he would be better but his joy was zapped right out of him. Spent countless hours in his room with no one checking in on him and I know this because I had a camera in his room. I had to wake up a staff member sleeping in the dining room to get out of unit. I had to bang on a locked door with no response to leave the unit. I have had to hunt down someone to let me in. I had to supplement his bird size meal portions, i brought cleaning supplies to clean his room. I know my husband was in constant pain from advanced arthritis in his hip and I pleaded multiple times to try some kind of pain management. Making an alzheimers patient request pain meds is like expecting an infant to request a bottle. In April i had to go out of town and upon my return the water in his bathroom was disabled because he put paper down the sink supposedly and flooded his room. So for almost a month he could not wash his hands after toileting, brush his teeth or wash his face. When i asked staff how he could wash his hands or brush his teeth they said good question. Really, good question?? NO DIGNITY IN THAT!!! Imagine the horror when i found my husband had wiped himself with his hand and was desperately trying to turn on the water.to wash his hands. NOT ACCEPTABLE. I immediately started looking for a new facility. My husband's behaviors finally became unmanageable for the facility while I was still looking bit it became imperative to find a new facility and within a week i was ready to leave. Since moving him his bad behaviors are almost eliminated, he is feeding himself again, he can get as much food as wants, his room is cleaned daily & he participates in activities and smiles again. Sandsage memory care was a huge disappointment and I suffer from guilt in buying into there hype. I don't blame staff, I assume they are not really well trained in dementia care and the unit is understaffed. I blame management. Finding a place for your vulnerable loved one is very hard and personal. I have shared what my experience was.

I cannot be happier with my experience with Sand and Sage! They made a hard decision so much easier. I am confident that my mom will be safe AND happy with her new adventure. Thanks to the staff for all your hard work. Putting your residents needs first tells me all I need to know. I will be recommending your facility and services to others.

We placed my FIL in here almost a year ago after he fell and broke his hip. All the nurses along with other staff we have been in contact with have been amazing. Charlae H is one of the nurses and she has always been so friendly, always pleasant to speak with, always a smile. Megan J we worked with at the beginning made the transition so easy. She is always so vibrant, easy to work with, and overall amazing. Kelly that works the front is another one that is always a pleasure to see when you come in the building. There hasn’t been one person on staff that we haven’t enjoyed working with or speaking to. The rooms are spacious, the building is so clean and beautiful. We have never walked in and thought gosh it smells awful in here. That’s a huge win!! Our FIL always loved the food. I will say I think it always looks delicious and smells yummy. I would 100% recommend them for you loved one.

Sand Sage has been Ron's new home since April of this year..He has made many changes since arriving. Sparkle was our first experience after arriving and made us feel so welcome and friendly.. Ron can be hard to handle at times but everyone worked hard to bond with him and make him feel at ease. Leona, Madison and Estee (not sure how to spell her name) have really bonded with Ron. The food is the highlight for all the residents. The meals are good and nutritious. The smaller number of residents in memory care makes it more comforting and manageable. Everyone goes above and beyond to care for the residents with many challenges. The reason I gave four stars is because there is always room for improvement... I was recently a guest in the community to sing for residents! Highlight of my day. The staff was so friendly and welcoming, the residents had smiles for days. I loved being a part and would definitely recommend this staff and community!

I recently visited the community for a family bbq night, and let me tell you, that food was AMAZING! Bread and butter was even made from scratch. The blues music was the cherry on top. I’m glad to see family nights being coordinated more frequently.

This place by far is the cleanest and well kept place in the area, the staff are always friendly, and always working on something to make there community better and fun for there residents. As a senior citizen in my nineties, I have had to give up my independent living and choose an alternative. I the last ten (10) years, therefore, I have lived in more than one facility in order to be near my family members. In all my moving, I have had several workers who attended to my needs. One of those who has provided exceptional care and problem solving for me is Jessica Walker, the Resident Care Director at Sand Sage of the Highlands in Mustang, Oklahoma. Not only has she provided excellent personal care and advice, she has dealt with druggists and physicians to solve their questions about my health issues. She has contacted them by phone, met with me, and my family members when necessary, and has done so herself with knowledge and tact, which I appreciate. I have not always found such excellent service in the four (4) other places I've lived for geographic reasons. I cannot recommend Sand Sage of the Highlands enough! From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were enveloped in a warm and comfortable atmosphere that immediately put our minds at ease. The community is not only physically welcoming, with its beautiful and well-maintained facilities, but it also radiates a sense of genuine care and compassion for its residents and their families. I must extend my deepest gratitude to Megan, who went above and beyond to help us transition my mother-in-law into the community. Her patience, warmth, and readiness to assist in any way possible made a world of difference for our family. She took the time to ensure that both my family and my mother-in-law fully understood the transition process, and her support was invaluable in making this significant change a smooth and positive experience. The impact of the move to Sand Sage of the Highlands was evident within just the first week. We witnessed a dramatic improvement in my mother-in-law's overall health and demeanor, which was truly heartwarming to see. What impressed me the most, however, was the personal care and attention that Megan provided not only to my mother-in-law but also to my husband. She helped him navigate the emotional and mental challenges that come with managing an aging parent and reassured him, dispelling any feelings of guilt he may have had about the transition. I go in and out of many facilities and Sand Sage is by far top tier ALF for the area! It's beautiful and clean, the staff are visible and smiling. Residents are often engaged in activities and interacting. If you're looking for a place for Assisted living, this is it!! The care given is exceptional.

My mom is a new resident. Megan worked very hard to get her medically qualified. Because Megan didn't give up, my mom is now at a place she loves. The rooms are spacious and nice and clean. She calls her room her own mini apartment. Every staff person I have met so far has been kind and helpful. They treat my mom like a queen. Can't forget the food - she tells me they have very good cooks! Would highly recommend Willowood. Thanks to all of you for making the move so smooth!

My mother has lived here for 4 years now. She is very happy here and all of the staff go out of their way to ensure that her needs are met and that she is content. No place is perfect and there have been a few "bumps" over the years but the management company and care team that is in place now go above and beyond. The facility is clean and has been given a face-lift making it very warm and welcoming. I would highly recommend Willowood to anyone looking for a quality home for their loved one.

My mom has called Willowood Assisted Living in Mustang her home for almost 10 years. She moved there in 2013 due to some minor health issues that she needed daily assistance with and has loved every minute of it. It’s only been recently that I have gotten to know the staff due to my moms health declining and having to move to the memory care unit. The past 9 months with my mom living in the memory care unit have been a roller coaster of emotions. The administrative staff: Amanda, Megan, Jillian and Lisa have truly been amazing. They have helped my sister and I navigate through making the best decision for my moms care. The staff (Leona, Gerard, Brooklynn, Janessa, Jessica, Sadie, and Jackie, to mention a few)that take care of her on a daily basis have become family to her and I absolutely do not worry about her well being. I know that she is well taken care of and loved. Everyone that I have worked with at Willowood has been so welcoming and approachable and has made this experience the best that it can be considering the situation. I highly recommend Willowood Assisted Living if you are looking for care for you loved one. It’s not your typical assisted living facility. They truly strive to set themselves a part from this industry’s norm.

Just wanted to share how help this community was to my family. We didn’t know where to start for my grandfather and the community walked us through the entire process . Writing this review in the foyer of comfortable Willowood at Mustang, (see picture). For my job, I visit senior care communities around the state. I find Willowood to be warm, clean, comfortable, homey, and pleasant. I interact with the clinical staff, and I can tell you that behind the scenes, the Director of Nursing definitely cares about the well-being and comfort of the residents. She makes decisions based entirely upon their best interests, (which is more rare than you might expect). As you’re searching for a comfortable home for your loved ones, I recommend scheduling a visit in Mustang at Willowood. I bet it’ll make your short list of places to strongly consider.

I've been coming to this facility to see residents for physical therapy around 7 years now. I've seen owners, administrators and employees come and go. I've never had many complaints about the facility, though I was never really impressed until this last change in ownership and administration. They've updated the building and have hired the right people to ensure quality & continuity of care. Amanda is an excellent & caring nurse and Jessica has been there for several years helping residents, always with a smile on her face. The facility engages in multiple activities daily, which is vital to keeping residents active and healthy. I highly recommend this establishment & I feel confident in saying your loved ones will be left in capable and caring hands.

What an amazing transformation at this retirement community. I have been visiting monthly for the past 6 months and the team has been so gracious. Once you walk in the doors you are greeted with smiles and you can feel the sense of community. The residents are very engaging and happy. I especially enjoy visiting the memory care neighborhood. Keep up the great work!

Beautiful building, the rooms are nice and spacious. The staff is incredibly kind, helpful, and interested in the residents. I love that they do fun activities daily and try to get everyone involved. Everything looks and smells clean. The food always looks good. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone having to make the difficult decision of putting a loved one in assisted living.

Concerns and complaints are met with lip service. Just look at the auto-responses to negative comments in other reviews below. There is no follow through even if the same complaint is made numerous times. Staff changes so often don't bother learning names. Rooms are not cleaned thouroughly and laundry service is very poor. The food served to these senior residents make lunchroom fare seem like gourmet cuisine! The food is cheap and institutional with no seasonings or flavor. Most meals there is a lot of food left on the plates - unless your loved one likes rice and beans 3 times a week. If $$ were spent on better quality food there would not be so much waste with food simply thrown away because it wasn't touched. Weekend care is "hit and miss" and "fend for yourself" at best. There is no continuity of care and any concern is met with a "pass the buck" mentality. I worry about the residents that have few or no visitors and/or advocates and are left to their own device. The residents that can and want to be involved attend regular meetings regarding food, activity, improvements, etc. The staff is upbeat and promising, but few changes are ever made. Silk arrangements and trees in common areas don't seem to have been cleaned since the building was built and may contribute or worsen respiratory ailments of some residents. Carpets are often soiled. However, they are ususally cleaned within 24-48 hours and sometimes sooner. Some of the furnishings are frayed, scratched, chipped, and sometimes dirty and carry an order. New owners have told residents changes and improvements will be made. This is encouraging since moving an elder is upsetting and scary to them. If improvements are actually made in a timely manner and there is substantiated positive change I will be thrilled to write a more favorable review. This facility has a lot of potential and I know the residents want and deserve to be proud of their home. The staff is pleasant, mannerly, and friendly.
