I am a medical provider that works in home care. I came to complete a visit with this new resident to this property. He had been discharged from the hospital the night before. The resident informed me that he had not eaten since he'd been there. He is dependent on oxygen. It was already past noon. Keep in mind that this is an elderly sick person as well. I called the oxygen company to ask if someone could come out to provide full oxygen tanks today and was told the soonest a tech could come was the following day, mid-day. I walked across the lot to the reception desk to ask if a food tray from their cafeteria on site could be brought to the resident. Lucy told me it is not policy because of the part of the property the resident lives on ( the independent side). I informed her this would only be for today as the oxygen (portability) issue would be resolved tomorrow. I expressed that this resident has not eaten since early the day before. She called the kitchen to ask for a delivery and relayed to me there would be a $5 delivery charge for each tray. I let her know that the resident's wallet had been misplaced when he was admitted into the hospital. I did not have my own wallet as I was there to simply see the resident and asked if a sandwich could be taken to the pt as a curtesy. She told me " I will see". I had other visits to make at other locations, so I called back to speak to a manager once I was at my vehicle. My call was not answered so I left a detailed voice message leaving my work cell number to be called back. almost 3 hours later, still no call back. I called to check on the resident and was told he still had not gotten or heard anything and was still hungry. I let my own manager and care team who is familiar with this resident know what is going on. One of them left and purchased items for this resident out of his own pocket as did I once I was off work. When I arrived to deliver food to him, he informed me that he walked to the dining area without oxygen. He looked much more exerted than I remember seeing him earlier that day which is not good. He stated " yes, I walked there and almost didn't make it. I had to stop multiple times to catch my breath." This could be life threatening in his condition. I then went to speak with the manager on site and met a night worker who said she would pass on this matter in the morning to a manager. As you can see, this property does not seem to show any compassion towards an elderly person in need even if it is for 1 day. There was no urgency on the receptionist behalf for the sake of human decency. This resident is brand new to this property and what a way to make a resident feel welcome. I would not place anyone, not even a stranger there. I work with a large health system as well as many case managers and will spread this experience with them so that those people looking for placement will be aware of the culture at Citadel. To anyone looking for housing/placement, find a place that will go above and beyond!

I use to live in Los Angeles, Ca until my mom (Who lived out here) had a debilitating stroke so I came out here to live to help her. I lived for a while in Tempe, but then a friend told me about The Citadel so I came out and checked it out. I immediately liked it. Now my mom passed and I could go back to Los Angeles but I like it here at The Citadel so much I think I'm just going to stay here. I been out here a year and a half now found that the staff is very cordial and cares how I feel and I would recommend The Citadel to everyone I care about 🙂 The Citadel has everything pretty much whatever you want and we all get along here. Citadel Senior Living is an amazing community in Mesa. I can see how happy and active the seniors are within the community. It's absolutely amazing that they offer Independent, Assisted Living and Memory. But the best part of the community is the kind, caring, loving and understanding staff they have hired on. Management has been absolutely wonderful with taking the time to focus not only care for the residents. But taking the time to listen to families and residents of the needs. I am beyond blessed to be part of this community. Families that are in need of these services need to know about Citadel because I can definitely can recommend this place. This is an initial review. I placed my mom into memory care for a short time while my father was over in skilled nursing. Unfortunately he ended up passing. What was going to be a short stay is turning long term. The staff especially Karina is being very helpful with this transition and have made a stressful situation less so.

One of the nicest Assisted Living's in Mesa. Clean, good food and nice staff in a homey setting. If you are like me and have had a difficult experience finding a place for Mom to join the assisted living crowd you will know what I mean when I say "it's not easy to find any place that meet's your needs for the basics, let alone some nice amenities". Following the pandemic it seems all assisted living facilities are struggling with staffing, dirty buildings and low morale. So imagine my surprise when I set up a tour and was actually taken around the expansive well cared for grounds and clean smelling and looking facility of Citadel by their Executive Director, her name is Karina and I would recommend you connect with her directly for your tour. Following my tour I was able to sit down with Karina and talk about the needs of my Mom and speak of the personalized care I was expecting. I was very pleased to hear that most of the needs I spoke with her about were standard and the pricing I was provided was VERY reasonable compared to any other location. So while Mom won't move in until this week I'm very encouraged and finally feel at peace with the decision I've made. Please stay tuned to this review as I plan to use it as a blog, if you will to bring updates regarding my Mom's move in and ongoing stay. Cross your fingers Citadel Assisted Living Facility will be the answer to my prayers! It's looking promising so far!

I've lived here for 4 months now and I felt compelled to provide a review because I love it here! The grounds are beautiful & well kept. The lobby & restaurant are hotel style & impressive. The safe outside grounds in the middle of the facility are safe & beautiful. It's like the pentagon style so you're safe in the middle of the complex. There are other activities, such as swimming, hot tub, shuffleboard, and other things to do outside as well. It's a very large facility. Food is great. My apartment style room is modern & kept very clean by the staff. There are many activities to stay busy. It's just a wonderful experience. The med techs & caregivers are exceptional & very friendly & attentive. I am truly passionate about The Citadel. I love all aspects of this place and my hope is to stay here forever. It checks all the boxes and has exceeded my expectations. I feel very fortunate to live here. Karina the Operations Manager has been tremendous. She's a delight to deal with and she has checked on me to make sure I am well and content many times. I feel safe & secure knowing that she manages this operation. Pros: Beautiful campus, beautiful apartment layouts, good pool, good exercise room, very friendly staff, good selection of fun things to do on campus. This facility took a terrible hit from Covid, not so much from positive residents and employees but services were dropped and staff changed so radically that the before and after Covid have been a very difficult transition back to a semblance of normal. Cons: Lack of adequate staff in all areas, the buildings are not getting the necessary upkeep due to lack of enough maintenance employees. (They are trying to hire in all areas) We hope as residents to be part of the improvement by being supportive of and encouraging to staff so they can have pride in their work. We have found the residents to be very friendly and we love it here.

This is a physical therapy rehabilitation, long term care facility. For the most part they are ok . The physical therapy part is astounding my Fiancee was able to walk out of there. However the nursing part needs major work . It took almost a day for them to get her right medication and when they finally did the ended up running out of some of her meds she was lucky that she had me to stay on top of things, I wonder about the ones who have no one to be in their corner how do they fair .

I have been to numerous assisted living communities with my family members recently. I can say that the Citadel was the most welcoming and friendly experience weve had from the moment we walked in we were treated like family.The community was very well kept the staff was great and it was very reasonably priced.The woman who gave us our tour went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable we had no pressure to sign up no rushing through to get to the next tour. She sat with us for almost 2 hours answering all of our questions and concerns from medical to the upcoming weeks menu.I highly recommend the Citadel to anyone who is looking for not just an assisted living for a family member but a place that makes you feel like one .

My wife recently passed away in late February. The care givers were like her sisters. They loved and cared for her and she loved them. She was in assisted living at the Citadel for 8 years due to Huntingtons Disease. For many years she was able to walk and help others less fortunate but as time went on she gradually lost almost all coordination and even the ability to swallow. The care givers hand fed her and did all they could and I cant begin to tell you how grateful I am that they were there for her. I loved her and miss her greatly. You wont make a mistake using this facility. w. schneider
