The staff at Merrill Gardens is truly amazing. From Tim the general manager to Jeff the business manager, including Jennifer the head nurse, and Nicole who runs daily activities, each brings a level of professionalism and dedication to their jobs that is impressive. My mother is a current resident and absolutely loves the facilities and daily activities and the folks who make it feel like home. Highly recommend this assisted living facility. Having toured most options in Mt Pleasant, Merrill Gardens is a true stand out.

My parents have lived at Merrill Gardens since November 2025, and I have nothing but good things to say about the community. From the very beginning, they welcomed my parents with open arms and made the transition feel smooth and comfortable for our entire family. The staff has been warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, creating an environment where residents truly feel at home. The community is well run, the atmosphere is positive, and it’s clear that the team puts a lot of thought and effort into making sure residents are happy and engaged. I also want to give special recognition to Ricky Flynn, their sales associate who helped guide us through the process. Ricky was knowledgeable, patient, and incredibly supportive from start to finish. He took the time to answer all of our questions, made sure we understood every step, and truly cared about helping our family find the right place for my parents. It’s such a relief to know my parents are living in a community where they feel comfortable, supported, and part of something special. I would highly recommend Merrill Gardens to anyone looking for a welcoming and well-managed senior living community.

Special thank you shout out to Jeff Waddell and Scott Souders for helping me sort out and correct internet/ethernet issues in my 93-year-old mother's apartment. Once I pointed out what I thought the issue was (based on a technician giving me the words) they stepped right in, worked with their MG contacts, and resolved an issue that I could not have solved on my own. I am so much calmer now knowing that her communication lines are working properly.

My mother has lived at Merrill Gardens for about 2 1/2 years. One of the aspects that makes Merrill Gardens unique is that they have one and two bedroom apartments where aging couples can stay together, ever if one of them needs more assistance. Many facilities cannot accommodate two people comfortably when one needs assisted living services. My mother and father moved into Merrill together when this was an issue. They were able to comfortably live in a two-bedroom apartment and get the individualized services they both needed. The most important thing to them was to stay together and we were able to make that happen, thanks to Merrill Gardens. My father has since passed away and my mother initially down-sized to one-bedroom apartment, and recently moved into a studio apartment at Merrill. The staff was extremely helpful in making these transitions happen easily. Some of the things my mother has liked best about Merrill are the modern, comfortable apartments, clean and well-cared for common areas and the friendly and attentive staff. People who work there seem to get to know who the residents are, and because the facility is not overly large, there is a nice sense of community. My mother has utilized the morning exercise classes, in-house beauty salon, and she likes to go to the afternoon travel movies and documentaries shown in the theater. The management and staff of Merrill try their best to work with residents and families to allow loved ones to age safely, actively and gracefully. I am grateful to everyone at Merrill Gardens who helps care for my mother, and many others, on a daily basis.

My family member has been a resident at Merrill Gardens for a little over a month. We now sleep easier knowing that she is safe, taking medicines correctly, and eating full meals as she likes throughout the day. After a transition period, she is settling in and making friends. She smiles and is getting involved. Mom loves the pool and the aerobics classes. Every day people introduce themselves to Mom and ask her about herself. They are so friendly. We love the staff members in every department. In our experience, the administration told us everything and held nothing back. They didn't build anything up and then not deliver. That part, alone, has been a relief. They told us what they can and cannot do for our loved one, so we came in with realistic expectations that have been met and exceeded. The honesty is what really sold us on Merrill Gardens at the beginning. The staff communicate with us regularly via text, phone, email and in person. And also, they take initiative to do what is best for Mom. It is a happy place with activity everywhere if residents choose to participate.

We first met Ricky Flynn for a tour. Immediately, we could tell that he was honest, knowledgeable and caring. He was absolutely instrumental in guiding us and for our decision to move our mother into Merrill Gardens. Nurse Jennifer Brett has been remarkable in her care and concern as we faced challenges that may be a normal part of a new resident's transition, but that we were unfamiliar with. Additionally, Tim Barresi, general manager, has demonstrated his genuine concern for our family member and us. Every single staff member has been sweet to our mom. From the maintenance crew to the kitchen staff to the med techs, we have felt these people really care. We toured several communities in the lowcountry and felt the difference at Merrill Gardens. The residents are also the most wonderful people, each saying hello when they pass and inviting Mom to activities. Since we are new, we don't know everyone by name, yet, but we do feel like part of a family. We appreciate the trusting relationships the administration and staff are building with us and our mom. We are forever grateful for their level of care and for treating our family member as an individual and with dignity.

I will start by saying this is a beautiful facility and anyone would be blessed to live here. I came to visit with my aunt to give her bonus mother flowers. Upon arrival we were greeted by a tall a gentleman Tim and Karen was so kind to call upstairs. During our brief visit Nancy the bus driver harassed my aunt and sneered at her engaging in discriminating behavior attempting to keep my aunt from visiting for no reason at all. Nancy’s behavior is unprofessional and unethical. We are appalled by this hostile and hateful woman we prayed for her. The residents deserve love , joy, and freedom.

Rates keep increasing significantly while daily expectations continuously worsen. Elevators inoperable for extended periods of time (can't get the parts?), fire alarms at all times of the day/night, go to order "take upstairs" and wait over 15 minutes standing there without even an acknowledgement by the staff....until a maintenance staff member takes matters into his own hands (thank you!).....understand rates will increase, but stuff shouldn't get worse over time. Stop taking advantage of the elderly.

My mother had a very smooth transition from another memory care facility, thanks in large part to Holly Sutcliffe and David Vogel. Holly is always up to date on what is going on with mom and is very easy to reach. The food at the facility is top quality and mom always cleans her plate. The rooms and cleanliness of the unit are a plus. So happy we made the change.

My mom has lived at Merrill since September of 2019 and we have been very pleased with her care. While it is hard watching your parent decline the love and compassion that the staff shows her is comforting. She requires more care than when she moved in, but they allow her to still feel like she is independent and in charge of her life. They keep all of the residents busy with fun activities and social hours which she loves. She also loves the food. A huge shout out to the GM as she treats every resident as if they were her parents so that makes my heart happy. Thank you to all of the staff.

I have a family member who lives at Merrill Gardens. The staff is very attentive and my family member is very happy. She says the GM treats every resident like a member of her family, and knows every resident by name. The GM has been there since September and communication has increased 10-fold. I read the weekly updates from the GM and she always lets the residents know what's going on with covid rules. I see the smile on my love granny's and so excited that she is so happy. oh, and the food is Great!

We moved my mother into Merrill Gardens in February 2020. It was unfortunate that the following month the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the facility shortly afterward put a "lockdown" for the safety of the residents. It was hard not seeing my mom however, I know this was for her own safety. They have been excellent through the whole thing. They recently completed round 2 of the COVID vaccinations and now, she has been able to enjoy activities more recently. She loves it there! The food is great, the staff is great and the people are great. Now that she has had both of vaccines, it won't be long until I can see her!

Memory Care is top-notch at Merrill Gardens. My mother initially moved into an apartment with assisted living services in January of 2019. By March '19 we realized she needed to be in Memory Care. The staff made the transition seamless. She was so happy in the Memory Garden center. The staff is so caring and patient - really on top of things. The private courtyard is beautiful - Mom loved sitting out there in the sunshine reading her newspaper. The monthly lunches out around town were an exciting treat that she looked forward to. And she loved doing so many crafts with the recreation team. Sadly my mom passed in September of 2019 due to complications from Parkinson's and a stroke. The whole time she was hospitalized, the management would call to check up on her condition . I cannot thank the caregivers in Memory Garden enough for making the final months of Doris' life so joyful.

We had to spend the time, energy and expense to move my parents after only 3 months. Please be cautious! Administration and Accounting very slow to respond.

The Merrill Gardens Facility has wonderful, friendly residents. The feeling of being part of a large family is prevalent here. The food is outstanding and served all day. For my husband and I, this senior living residency has everything we could want to enjoy the years of our retirement. The senior staff employed here are the best when they can do their job. Most of the short comings are a result of decisions made by a Corporate Office across the country. The promised pool never has materialized, the Garden House for memory residents has little to no recreation program. With the culture of Charleston a bus ride away, the Merrill Garden bus has only twelve seats and no hired driver to drive to evening events. With the number of residents increasing monthly, I would hope that Merrill Gardens at Carolina Park would be allowed to live up to its fantastic possibilities.

I really love it here!! What impresses me most about Merrill Gardens of Carolina Park is the sense of family between the residents and the staff! These are truly caring people whose job is not just a job but a calling. Our general manager, Elizabeth, is outstanding. As a resident, she is truly approachable and listens to your concerns. She exemplifies an outstanding work ethic for her staff, and I can truly say that I’ve seen her step up and do any job that is needed. The administrative staff here is extremely friendly as well as professional. The food is great and the chefs and servers are amazing!! Not only do they work extremely hard, they go above and beyond to be both patient, kind, and caring. The caregivers and med techs are also wonderful caring people. Although Merrill Gardens is new, I feel confident they are working with their residents to provide for their needs and also wishes promised by their corporation. I would highly recommend Merrill Gardens.
