What a wonderful move! My mother has been in a Villa (independent cottage) at Somerby in Mount Pleasant for four years. It was the perfect transition from her own home to a senior residential community. She has made many wonderful friendships with other residents, and the staff has always been friendly and caring. Recently she chose to move into an independent apartment in the main building. The team at Somerby helped make this move so easy by allowing us to view available units. They prepared the apartment she chose with new flooring and paint, new kitchen counters, appliances and lighting, and had it sparkling clean for her moving day. They even recommended a mover who specialized in downsizing and senior moves. My mother's transition into her new home was happy and seamless. We cannot say enough about the cheerful and accommodating staff. They are the best, and we love knowing they are there for my mother. Many thanks!

Our family recently decided to have my parents downsize to Somerby in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Some life events, advancing age and physical limitations made this a beneficial change. We were fortunate enough to have Tina Mebbett help us through this process. She made this emotional decision so much easier! My father's experience living and thriving at Somerby has been great. He's going on his 3rd year and has not only made many friends but he has also been able to participate in many of the dinner, sporting and entertainment outings that have been constantly available to the residents. He especially loves the food/dining and enjoys his daily walks around the sprawling campus. It's always great to have family close by and bringing him here from AZ was the best decision we ever made. He's now over 90 and knows if he needs additional assistance with his daily tasks someday, he can remain here by moving to assisted living when that time comes.

My father lived at Somerby for over five years, first in independent living and then assisted living. I spent a great deal of time there over the past years and have developed friendships with many members of the staff and residents. The facility is smaller than others in Mount Pleasant, but this is a benefit rather than a disadvantage. The residents' recognize and welcome newcomers and create an environment of acceptance and kindness. My father was reluctant to engage outside of his room when he first arrived, but the persistence of the other residence prevailed, and he spent his time there staying active and happy. Mount Pleasant is notorious for having a shortage of staff in all service industries, so even Somerby does experience this at times, but they put forth a concerted effort to always give the best care possible to their residents. Areas that my father and I found to be outstanding were the activities, including frequent concerts, trips around the town, games, competitions, and education programs. The physical and occupational therapy department is independent from Somerby ownership, but they are outstanding. This was a critical part of my father's success as he often needed physical, occupational and speech therapy. This department is staffed by kind, loving professionals. My father had one complaint about the food: he said the melon was not always ripe enough. That was it. Not to say the food is world class, but they put out healthy, overall good meals, which I have eaten many times. My father passed just over a year ago and I still go to Somerby to play rummikube, visit residents and attend events, as I still cherish the friendships I have there with so many of the residents and staff.

My dad is a resident in memory care for about 5 weeks now. It took some time for him to get used to the routine as he misses my mom of 68 married years — the meals are excellent and he is eating fairly well. There is an issue w housekeeping on the weekends — nobody comes by to collect the garbage or clean up the bathroom or his room. Brittany has been amazing and very attentive to my parents. My mother visits almost daily. There is an issue w the night staff remembering to charge his hearing aides every night— it's a bit upsetting as his children and grandchildren call on his phone and he can't hear who is on the phone. We are hoping this gets better moving forward

I was so shocked and very happy when my dad, Bob Quig, made the very difficult decision a year after my mom passed to leave his home of 90 years in NJ and move south to be closer to his kids. Dad and I looked at 3 communities in the Charleston area and after touring all three we knew without a doubt that Somerby was going to be his new home. Dad will tell you that choosing Somerby for this chapter of his life was an excellent decision.We especially want to thank you for the extra care, patience and dedication by the Somerby team during this very difficult time doing everything you can to protect your residents, our family members, from COVID-19. We evaluated facilities in the Charelston area and Somerby stood out above all. We looked at A Place for Mom Website and it had high reviews. Mother was there in Memory Care 5 years. The Staff treated her so very well. They knew her and responded to her needs like she was their own family member. There is a full agenda of activities including special people who come in for games, art. cooking demos, music recitals and crafts. A Christian pastor held services for residents. The Staff had very little turnover while Mother was there. They did a very complex evacuation to Atlanta when a big hurricane threatened. They did so very efficiently and residents were treated like royalty. The administration is efficient and when we found problems they were quickly and effectively addressed. All the Staff knew our Mother and her needs well. One called Mother, Her Snookums. They are kind and efficient. Staff members who loved Mother were at her bedside when she passed away and came to our family visitation. They have an award for Staff called The 2nd Mile Award, a name taken from the Good Book for one who does most above and beyond the requirements of service on the job. The young lady who got the 2018 Award, was the Activities Director, who could get a smile even from Eeyore or the Grinch. My mothers face lit up when she came into the room as did the other residents. The fact that there is a so named award indicates high goals of service and excellence. Such service emanates from the top of the organization and permeates all levels. God forbid I should lose my memory, but if so, this is where Id want to be. Stewart, Montevallo, Alabama.

I am so incredibly thankful for the incredible staff, beautiful facility, active community and warm environment. My mother loves living at Somerby which has been such a blessing considering she had never been to South Carolina before moving with us from Michigan this past summer. Her days are filled with exercise, physical therapy, bible study, Rumicube, meals, speakers, outings etc. She is busier now than she has been in a long time. She loves it! I have also been impressed with how swiftly the leadership at Somerby put measures in place to protect residents from the Coronavirus. My dad and I attended Somerbys wonderful holiday party last week, which inspired me to comment on their Facebook page. Not living there myself I didnt expect to have such an enjoyable time, but between the great food, the wonderful staff and friendly residents, it was a perfect way to start our holiday season. My dad has lived there for almost two years and we have found the staff to be friendly, professional and the facility clean and well maintained. With that said, the residents are what make Somerby a great place for my dad to live and for me to visit. I cant imagine a friendlier or kinder group of people living in one place.The management has been responsive to any requests my dad or I have made, which is a significant plus. Mary at the front desk, the administrative and support staff, and the in house therapy team truly care about the people living at Somerby and have shown my father nothing but genuine kindness.Thanks!

She and her WAYS staff have been providing help to my father four times a day for over 18 months, and they are always on time, courteous, friendly, and responsive to his every need. Even during our latest winter snow emergency they went out of their way to make sure he was fed and his medicines were given to him on time, every day. The folks at Somerby truly care about my mother and take excellent care of her. She is safe and happy. Somerby provides so many cultural activities for her to do, and she joins in all of them. Somerby has exceeded our expectations as a vibrant, caring, engaging and exceptional residential community. My active and discerning 94 year old mother felt comfortable and embraced from the start...no small feat for someone who had lived in the same home for 60 years! The staff, on every level, is incredibly attentive and, more importantly, devoted to the happiness of the residents . It is clear that they enjoy interacting with residents, creating a familial AND congenial atmosphere. The facility is beautiful, elegant yet comfortable.
